Eltham Gpo in Greenwich

Just had a beautiful meal at the Eltham GPO. Everything was delicious and nicely cooked. We couldn't fault anything, whatsoever. Our waitress was lovely. Very attentive. Such a nice evening. Will definitely be returning soon.

Don't no about the food as I didn't eat in there but staff were ever so friendly

We asked for the trio of meats but we're told because it was 5:30 they had sold out and had also sold out of chicken ( although the website says they serve till 9:30) the waiter told me it was 8 but regardless they had also sold out of 2 of the 3 side orders. So I ordered roast beef which I did asked to be well done however I could not even cut it with my knife it was totally inedible. All the time I was trying to eat there were children screaming, dancing and one young boy even started riding his bike. Mix all that in with the noise of music and everybody chatting it was worse that being in a children's party in McDonalds. Needless to say couple that experience with a service charge of nearly £10 it not an experience I will be repeating anytime soon. So glad I did this as a trial run for Christmas dinner. Will be sticking to where we usually go.

Almost Every single thing ordered on menu had run out. When we got the food it was inedible. Thought we was in a playground with children running around. Won't be coming back any time soon.

Good fish and chips, Sunday roast not bad either service a bit slow

I'm not fussy, but I can't eat onion, garlic, spices and there was nothing on the menu I could eat. Drinks quite expensive and didn't seem to have any atmosphere. Only stayed for 1 drink and went to bk for a burger on the way home

Lovely family friendly pub. Went there after a kids birthday party. Great space to sit and chill. The food was very tasty, I had the Chicken burger, my dad had the fish and chips which he said was very fresh and delicious. My son has a fish allergy and ARFID. Even though he couldn't find anything to eat they accommodated him by allowing him to bring in a sandwich from outside and eat. Friendly and helpful staff and topped it off with delicious cheesecake.

The food was delicious! We stopped in for a Sunday roast with friends and dogs- it was phenomenal. The staff were incredible and the service was unmatched. I think it’s the best roast we’ve had in a while!

We had a lovely afternoon at the GPO. We ordered the three small plates for £21 and each one was so tasty. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Looking forward to coming back!

Nicely modern designed building with shabby chic feel. Area to drink outside. Service good. Drinks on tap were standard. Food looked ok but we didn’t eat this time.

The place is super nice. We had the honor to listen to a lice street performer and it was amazing. The pub is clean, nice and the staff is great as well. I haven't tries their food yet but I'm moving in the area I'll surely be here a lot. I love this place so far!

Un gran grupo de nosotros almorzamos, los 5 por £ 35 entrantes / compartir platos fueron increíbles, tuvimos el calamar, los bocados de pollo coreano, pimientos padron, chorizo frito y papas fritas Halloumi. La red era igual de buena, recomendaría el eglefino rebozado, el Gammon y la hamburguesa de queso de la casa, los desiertos hicieron muy felices a mis amigos, especialmente la tarta de queso. En general una muy buena experiencia y el servicio fue insuperable, volveremos muy pronto.

He estado aquí un par de veces y he tenido la esperanza de que la comida podría mejorar dado el tiempo. Esta semana fue el impulso que necesitaba para dejar una reseña. Siempre me pareció alentador el menú. Esta visita probamos el pollo frito coreano y los calamares como entrantes. . El pollo no tenía sabor por derecho propio y la salsa no podía cubrir la mala calidad del pollo. No parece que esté preparado en el día. Los calamares se cocinaban en aceite viejo, por lo que había que darle un color demasiado marrón a la batería y no tenían condimento. Fuimos por las hamburguesas (hamburguesa de ternera y pollo con suero de mantequilla). La hamburguesa de ternera estaba bien, pero de nuevo la hamburguesa de pollo estaba demasiado cocida. Saltaré la comida en el futuro hasta que vea un cambio de menú. Es triste ya que este lugar tiene excelentes cervezas, un buen diseño y ambiente incluso cuando es tranquilo.

Really enjoyable. The food and service was excellent. The atmosphere relaxed. Spotlessly clean. Would recommend without hesitation.

Haven't been here for a long while but the refurbishment is great a much more welcoming place. Love the new layout and the atmosphere was very relaxed and chilled. Had a sharing platter of nachos and they were delicious and plentiful. Will definitely be back sooner rather than later

Estaba deseando una experiencia encantadora después de leer algunas críticas. Sin embargo... el servicio fue terrible, esperamos más de media hora entre el pedido y la llegada de la comida y tuvimos que preguntar dónde estaba antes de que nos dijeran que seríamos los siguientes... no estaba ocupado... Cuando llegó la comida el pollo kiev estaba seco y desprovisto de ajo, el humus en el plato de meze no era comestible como demasiado salado y el pan francés caliente en los arados estaba frío y duro. La guinda del pastel fue reservada con una nota que indica que uno de los participantes utilizó una silla de ruedas y en ningún momento nos informaron que el inodoro para discapacitados estaba fuera de servicio, con los otros inodoros estaban arriba tuvimos que salir para que nuestro familiar usara el inodoro. El personal estaba tan ocupado moviendo mesas para acomodar a la gente que quería ver el fútbol que tuvimos que pedir dos veces la cuenta y 15 minutos después finalmente llegó. Volveré a visitarte!

Went there for dinner. Good food. Fairly priced. Friendly and efficient staff. Sat outside a little bit of road noise but didn't spoil anything. Will definitely be going again

Modern chic I interior. Good smokers courtyard. Prices are reasonable. Toilets clean. Plenty of Tvs dotted around as I was there to watch the first England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Serbia 🇷🇸 euro football game. Not too loud, so you can actually watch the footy and chat with your family. We had all the tapas plates on the menu, which were very tasty. I will revisit.

Went for lunch on Tuesday 18 June 2024, Lovely pub restaurant , great friendly helpful and attentive waitress. We both had house cheese burger and chips, really tasty. Will definitely come again and spread the word👍

I went for lunch during the week. I liked the variety of beers, lovely inside space and great service. I had a burger, which for my taste was a bit dry but the sides were great! The price was reasonable. I'll give it another try and be back soon. ☺️

This is a review of the Eltham GPO as a pub for a pint of Ale. I cannot give or make no comment regarding the food. This is one of a tranche of pubs that the Portobello Brewery bought off Antic in 2020 and it was shut down for three months in the second half of last year whilst it underwent a complete makeover, therefore none of the previous reviews dated before October last year now really apply. What we have now is a very smart pub, both inside and outside. You can still see traces of the former Antic pub in the ceiling and the bare boarded wooden floor, but the furniture and décor is now much more modern, with a lot of the space aligned to dining but still with enough sections more aligned to sitting with a beer. And in that respect, there are now three ale hand pumps on the bar alongside some keg dispensers for modern craft ales. Portobello Star Bitter and Stiff Lip IPA were on with FivePoints XPA on the third pump as a guest. There were some interesting craft options such as Brixton Atlantic APA on the taps. I have a very soft spot for former GPO buildings turned into pubs and I thought this is now a particularly good example.

Really good renovation to the property. Food is really nice especially there roast dinners, and reasonable.priced. drink prices are a little high and service is abit to be desired. Both Ng on the staff they are great, just a little too much for them to handle.by themselves. Would be nice to see the manager guy chip in with service rather than just walking around is all. Very nice establishment and worth a visit.💯

Lovely atmosphere and superb staff, great beer.. I even got a frosted glass straight from the freezer which makes the lager taste even better. A very comfortable place for a beer I didn't eat but what I saw come out for other customers looked great.

Visited for the first time on a Wednesday lunch time. Atmosphere lovely although the ceiling still needs to be finished I believe. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was exceptional and a refreshing surprise for a local establishment. The schnitzel was crispy and moist with great flavours. The beetroot burger was full of flavour but could have done with a bit more cole slaw. Chips were good too. Overall a great lunch. It wasn’t busy at all so I hope the standards are the same when it’s busy. I will definitely visit again and support this lovely local establishment

This is a lovely pub to visit, it is dog friendly with helps when wanting to eat out after a nice walk. Didnt eat this time but will be back soon.

Snob pub, staff can't have a laugh, lefty leaning, not the sort of pub for Eltham. £6.40 a pint of Guinness or should i say 6.4 😂 where you going with them prices? 4 Guinness £25.60. Comment on price and was told to go to wetherspoons. Dont worry i most certainly will next time of one of the many other pubs in local area. No football, no music just news from the bias brocasting corporation. Do youself a favour people, find somewhere else unless your one of those types of corse, certainly not for me and the majority of SE9. More for the lqbqiadhdlala community and other similar types. Won't be returning, ta la.... Blonde northern bird nice to look at but I've seen lampposts with more personality. That also goes for the rest of the staff in there. Luxembourg is the country btw... can people not chat and be social in a social setting anymore without being judged? The pub has a serious fly infestation, you know the small slow ones that fly around the glasses and food, certainly wouldn't want to be eating in there, sure the vegans wouldn't appreciate the protein feeding on their avocado and tofo. Maybe don't judge a book by its cover in regards to your future customers. Funny how both tables between me had menus delivered to them shortly after walking in whilst I had nothing but peculiar looks. Not that I would have eaten in there but you can definitely sense the 'discrimination'. Im just a 30 year old white bloke, lived in the area my whole life. Seems their catering to the minority like most things in the country nowadays. I like to support local pubs but this is one i certainly wouldnt miss if it shut down, sooner the better imo. Flies are an indication of cleanliness and the toilets upstairs are filthy, posh soap though. Ripping customers off with the prices but cant keep up basic hygeine standards. Get a Subway if your hungy, directly opposite and open till late. Cheaper, friendly and they don't they dont have a fly problem. Winner winner subway dinner 👍

Great place , atmosphere was lovely , beers very nice , food delicious...however the service was poor ....it wasn't really busy it was steady , sat at our table after around 15 mins I had to get up and ask for the menus, the waitress the came over after to take our order she was very friendly and polite , starters arrived food was good , then had our main courses all good again ....the we were just left , I then had to get up twice more and ask for the table to be cleared , and to ask if we could order more drinks , we weren't even asked about desert ...??...I then had to get up and ask for the bill ......the waiting staff weren't very attentive ...but good food , atmosphere etc ...

Great Sunday roast. Loved the lamb. Recommend the cauli-cheese side. Great Guinness. Super friendly staff who treated my large dog like royalty with treats and blankets and fuss.

This is a lovely place, it's just a shame the manager (lady) speaks to her staff terribly and then talks about them to customers behind their backs. Other customers can hear clearly and its not nice at all

Good food and excellent service A pleasant hour

Loving the recent refurbishment and more importantly the great sounding and tasting menu. The menu has a good variety of dishes (but not too big) which allows the kitchen to push out great tasting pub and bistro level food. The Korean chicken bites were delicious and I was very happy to see a bit of fusion on their menu. The fish and chips was flavoursome and fresh, definitely a lot better than other pubs in the area. The chicken schnitzel was crispy and cooked well but could have done with perhaps a bit more flavour in the breadcrumb to whack it up a notch. The sticky toffee pudding was the perfect (and filling) end to the meal, a definite winner. The service was great and the staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back to try the Sunday roasts!

This pub is in great shape after having been refurbished. I booked a table for lunch, a group of six of us enjoyed the Sunday roast. Service was friendly and attentive.

Pub with exceptional service and cosy atmosphere in the heart of beautiful Eltham only 10 min walk from Eltham train station. The food is also good. I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

Lovely old nostalgic pub , loved the decor and atmoshere the food was tastey and presented well and hot as cooked to order , staff were very friendly and helpful , we enjoyed our evening before going to the cinema to watch Elvis movie , the decor put us right back to the 60/70s THANKYOU Went backbto GPO for a lovely sunday roast with my mum and two sisters. During summer months Refurbishment took place , today was our first time back ..lovely I industrial look about the pub , maybe not as nostalgic as before but still very inviting , warm , and a lovely bit of dinner . Fantastic pub! The food was great, the drinks were great (and pretty reasonably priced for LDN), and the staff were fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for a better setting for mine and my partners engagement party! We had around 50 people, and were able to book a section of the pub. It was the perfect mix of being slightly separate but still very much part of the pub and the atmosphere! The staff were amazing, friendly and efficient (and this is on a busy Saturday around Christmas so hats off they really made sure we were well taken care of) Nikki was also a star. She’s been organising this with me for the last month and made everything so easy and relaxed! Even calling me to chat through extra details. It’s thanks to her and the whole team at the GPO that the party was such a roaring success! Everything went smoothly with the drinks and food that I had pre ordered (around 30 glasses of Prosecco, a tab for non-alcoholic drinks & several sharing platters of food that they brought out after everyone was settled). All the food was excellent, the mac and cheese bites in particular were banging - many compliments to the chefs from myself and my friends and family. I shall also pass on that many of my friends and family complimented the venue during the night. I can’t recommend this pub enough, and thank you so much for hosting us.

Wow , what a great night we had last night ! We came in for a pre Christmas get together and couldn’t be more suprised. We had food and THEN a DJ turned up and played some great songs - had loads of people up dancing. Great suprise , DJ very friendly and played our requests ! food and staff very efficient and friendly. Apparently the music is happening on all Fridays in december so will see you next week ! 10/10

Partner and I had a good Sunday roast yesterday. Pub was very busy. Very good service and the pub had a good friendly atmosphere. Will certainly try again. The refurbishment looks great.

Lovely place for a good catch up with friends. Connor (bartender) does an amazing job with cocktails and is always lovely, professional and on the ball with the busy atmosphere there. We've made it a regular spot for us! Love it.

Lovely pub, wish we could have stayed longer! Visited on Saturday afternoon after the Passey Place Christmas event and the pub had a lovely atmosphere. I believe it has recently undergone a refurbishment and the decor is lovely - very bright, airy and modern.

One of the best roast dinner's you will ever eat. The trio of sides complimented the meal well also. Would highly recommend this place.

Since the renovation service has gone seriously downhill. Tables not being cleared, tables not being cleaned, waiting endlessly at the bar even when they don't appear to be busy. QR codes on the tables that don't work. Hopefully it's just teething issued since the refurbishment but if it continues they won't continue to have my business.

We had booked for the Sunday roast, and upon arrival, was shown to our table. After roughly 15 minutes, a waitress turned up and asked us if we wanted drinks ( we had already decided on our starter and main by this time ) . She returned five minutes later with the drinks and said someone would be with us shortly to take our order. Ten minutes later, a waitress came to our table and took our order. I ordered the camembert starter to share, and the trio of meat roast main and my partner ordered the vegetarian roast main. The camembert starter was good. It was overpriced but good. A waitress came to clear our plates and cutlery and said she would bring some clean knives and forks - she didn't. I had to grab some from a vacant table. When the mains turned up, my partner was presented with a pork roast ( luckily, she is not of the Islamic faith). She explained she had ordered the vegetarian, the waitress apologised and said she would sort it out. About 5 minutes later, another waitress returned with a roast - a vegan roast ! We mentioned that it was missing the yorkshire pudding ( the only difference between the vege and vegan ). Whilst waiting for the missing pudding to arrive, we were presented with a plate of pigs in blankets and other bits , we explained we hadn't ordered them, the waitress apologised and then disappeared with said plate. I had nearly eaten my roast by the time my partner got her yorkshire pudding , not just a single yorkshire pudding though, 3 yorkshire puddings turned up The waitress apologised again and took the other 2 away . It was only a couple of minutes after that another waitress came over.... with another yorkshire pudding !! The apologies were getting boring now and falling on deaf ears. Finally, after a catalogue of errors and ridiculous waiting times, we had finished eating , I have to say, the food was good though, hence the 4 stars. I fancied a lager to finish off and help me relax some. As our table was being cleared, I put in my request for the pint. The waitress returned 10 minutes later and said to me, " Oh, you ordered a drink, didn't you ?" I don't know how I held back from unleashing a string of expletives ! It was staring to feel like it was all deliberate. How else could there be this many f@@k ups by accident? There seemed to be a complete loss of communication between the waitresses. We paid and went to another pub for drinks .

Went to this place last night - Had a lovely time -staff were really friendly -our orders were taken by Georgie and she was a sweetheart - I think the other lady’s name began with an A I’m so sorry I can’t remember but she had bright funky hair 😀Food was hot and tasty especially the chunky chips ! We will be back soon

Newly refurbished, I revisited with a friend and greatly enjoyed our lunch. The staff and manager are friendly, welcoming and helpful and we like the feel of the place. We plan to use it as our meeting place.

Had lunch here today, I had the shedded chicken flatbread and fries. Was surprised by the ample amount of food for only £8.50 and it was cooked well and delicious Service was quick and staff were friendly Will be back again to sample the Sunday roast Thank you Jim and the staff for your friendly welcome.

Great to see the GPO back open, roast is still as good as always. We were served by Georgia and she was amazing!

We have been happily coming here for the past 4 years. What a surprise to come after the refurbishment and pay for a Guinness and two double GnTs : 28 pounds (!!!). Apparently a basic double GnT is now 10.9pounds... this is outrageous. Lovely place but you need to rethink the price, this is Eltham, not central London.

We wanted to try after the refurb as before we came in with work friends and left straight away the bar then was awful. So Thank goodness for the update, service really was great we got stuck in for a lovely afternoon of chatter and catching up, we enjoyed wine, soft drinks some bar food and a lovely cuppa Thank you

1st visit after the refurbishment. It looks lovely. Very disappointed in the menu for PB guests. No moving mountains burger, so I had the noodle dish (not great) and the only option!!! my friend had to order 3 starters as her main! Please bring back the PB burger. Also don’t agree with the service charge added to bill.

Our first visit since the refurb. Loved the new renovation and the atmosphere was great. We went for dinner and the food was excellent, there wasn’t an item on any of the plates that could have been improved. The Korean chicken, and gammon deserve a special mention. Our waitress (didn’t catch her name, but a young, northern girl with blonde hair) was excellent. Lovely, polite, attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely be back.

Had a lovely Sunday roast today with my family. The new refurbishment looks amazing, kept the old style that we loved, kept the lovely fireplace but added much needed space. Good vegan options and gluten free on request. The servers were lovely and chatty.

The refurb here was well worth the wait. Lovely staff, great food and a great atmosphere. A must visit.

Great pub with a nice selection of beers, including some nice craft beer selections. The burger wasn't the best I've had, but it was decent enough.

The food was very nice. I believe it's only been reopened for a couple of weeks, so a few teething problems. Food did take rather a long time to come out , a bit loud, but that's not the restaurant/ pubs fault . My capachino was cold but they changed it no problem and even put a small chocolate brownie on the side 😊 . I think they need time to settle in and would definitely give it another go .

The Eltham GPO (General Post Office as that is what it used to be) has been recently renovated and they have done a good job too. There is plenty of space inside, as well as outside, but it's advisable to book as many tables were reserved when I visited. Only three stars for service as the gentleman that served me wasn't very jolly, didn't smile and made me feel that I was inconveniencing him by asking for a drink. Maybe he was just having a bad day. They have a good range of beers and wines and it is well located in the centre of Eltham. Well worth a visit.

The pub looks so beautiful after its refurbishment, it's a fantastic place to meet with friends and the pub quiz is great! Fantastic selection of drinks including a wide selection of non-alcoholic beers, which is always a bonus. The food is fantastic and the staff are all super friendly. Looking forward to trying the Sunday roast! Also it allows dogs and has a selection of treats available!

Recent revamp has spruced up the place but also requires some ironing of service. It just took far too long to order drinks but this likely just a product of demand from the refurbishment. Smashed burger patty was very dry, all other elements of the burger were great but the patty was cooked right through with no moisture remaining. Smashed patties only need a 1/1.5minutes each side but this tasted like it was on their for 3/4minutes each side. I'm sure a lot will improve once they find their feet again.

5/5 on everything. Why? If you knew this place before, you are aware the food is above averagely priced. But the thing is… it’s worth it. It’s way above average food. Delicious. Then there’s drink selection, which is clearly tried and tested. Awesome. Loved it before the refurb. Still love it now.
