Had our wedding reception there a year ago today, and the staff and experience were amazing! Really accomodating sorting out our dietary preferences - catered to our multi cultural guests, helped create an amazing atmosphere and were just super professional throughout. The events management team were great, in terms of communication and support - highly recommended - 5 star service!! They put table clothes on the tables, and because of the lovely decor there was little that was needed to make it look spectacular. There is parking near by, its a little pricey - but you are in the Royal borough of Greenwich! The Tavern is opposite the entrance to Greenwich park so we took some lovely pictures.

A large pub next to Greenwich Park. The downstairs bar is spacious, there is a smaller bar upstairs and plenty of covered external seating. They only had one cask beer and around 12 whiskies so I opted for a double Woodford Reserve bourbon at £12.50, at the pricier range for me. They do provide food and their Sunday roast is heavily promoted (I did not eat so please see other reviews regarding food quality). I was here at 3.30pm on a Friday and it was quiet. In summary an OK pub.

I recently attended a wedding in King William room and I was initially impressed with the ambiance and service. However, my experience took a concerning turn when a dog unexpectedly came out from the kitchen area. As a dog lover, I understand that some establishments may be pet-friendly, but this raises significant hygiene and safety concerns. When I brought this issue to the attention of the manager, I was disappointed by their lack of response. It’s crucial for restaurants to maintain a safe and clean environment for their customers. I hope this feedback helps others be aware of the situation. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place based on my experience. 1 star.

While the tavern looks nice, service is extremely slow and prices are high for what you get. A kids meal burger is the size of a small meatball and is served on a steaming hot bun that is hard as a rock before the kids are able to eat it. I asked for a cold plain bun and was brought another steaming hot bun. The gyoza has no flavor and costs 9.5 pounds for 3 pieces. I should have asked, but have never seen 1 gyoza cost 3 pounds. My husband said the fish and chips was "okay". Do yourself a favor and go to The Old Brewery instead.

It was busy but not frantic, and given that this was 6pm on a Saturday and immediately outside the main gates of Greenwich park on a sunny evening, it should have been busier. The reason it wasn't is the service. Pedestrian and very poorly trained, the bar staff frequently had to ask the customers who was next despite only 6 people waiting to be served, and given this, it took me ages before my presence was even acknowledged. One could easily get the impression the staff don't want to serve you. I ordered fish and chips, which the menu claimed were hand cut. Well they may have been before they were parboiled and frozen but they were definitely oven chip and barely edible. I was almost thankful there were only 8 of them. The fish, admittedly, was excellent an beautifully cooked. The garden peas, cooked from frozen, were served in a steel bowl, in a sparing quantity. Overall, definitely not worth £19.

Sat at a table outside and waited quite awhile for someone to come by. Eventually got up and went in. Told the hostess that we were sitting outside. She asked if we were having food or drinks. I told her both. She made some comment about “being able to do that” as though I were doing them a favor by giving them business. Note the place wasn’t close to busy. Ordered two fish and chips, the Mac and Cheese, and three drinks. Then for reasons I cannot explain, the server demanded payment immediately. I’ve never eaten at any sit down restaurant anywhere in the world that wanted payment before the meal. The fish and chips was good and the tartar sauce was excellent and made up for the fish itself being massively under seasoned. The Mac and cheese was horrible. They drowned in truffle oil making it very unappetizing. The rest of the meal was fine but definitely not worth the nearly £70 we paid for it. Can’t speak to the desserts. Since I was made to pay at the start of the meal I’ll never know what their desserts or a second drink tastes like here. The building itself is lovely and it’s immediately next to the park. I assume this why the treat their customers like criminals not expecting them to return. I know I will not.

In a restaurant where the price for a salad is 18£ I would at least expect some responsibility, support and kindness. The waitress who made the mistake of adding the black pepper, she did not even came to request an apology. Same goes to the manager, until I had to approach her. So rude!!!! We were so looking forward to a day in Greenwich that included lunch and we enjoyed the town, the people, the atmosphere, and the market. Then, we two hapless Canadian sisters went to the Greenwich Tavern for lunch. After ordering I suddenly felt transported into an Orwellian dream when really loud offensive rap music came over the speakers into the area where we were sitting with lots of “F… you.” It seemed deliberately targeted at our section. We were taken aback; it was so inappropriate for that venue and downright bizarre. To conclude, the food was fine, the service was slow, and the chance of us going back is nil. Luckily, Greenwich has so many other fine attributes, it did not spoil our day.

A very pretty restaurant in a prime location. There is where any goodness ends. Our group of four entered on a cold day for some warm beverages and a nibble. Our waitress told us there was no coffee or tea, despite both being on the menu. We had sodas and ordered two appetizers: fish cakes and some Korean shrimp bao. The fish cakes were mostly potato with no discernible fish flavor. The Korean baos were soaked in some god-awful sauce and pretty much inedible. When a different waitress (the hostess) came by, I asked again if we could get a tea. She had to check with the kitchen (!), finally agreed, then did not come back with a tea for the longest time. I had to remind her once or twice, and finally a tea came--lukewarm at best. For three sodas, a tea, and two small appetizers, the bill was almost £40. This place is an embarrassment.

Sadly it was not enjoyable this time, as the waitress was rushing us. She asked if she could bring our mains while our children were still eating their starters, so I said no. Then she asked if we wanted to order dessert, while we were still eating our mains, so I said no. Finally, she put a reserved sign on the table for the next guests, before she'd even given us our bill! She also hovered the whole time, which felt uncomfortable. It was really annoying. We were only at the table for 1 hour and 10 minutes, so it's not like we overstayed our welcome. What a shame. It is still a lovely pub, with lovely food, and usually excellent service. Decent selection of food and good sized portions too...shame about the quality of the Guinness but thats another story... the place was empty save for a few tables being occupied. Atmosphere was minimal, it being around 1700hrs, with music was being piped thru speakers though was at a noise level that was acceptable and allowed conversations to be undertaken. Starters was good - soup with eight or nine slices of crutons was delicious and the chicken caesar salad was huge with plenty of chicken - couldn't finish this dish and asked for, and was provided with, a doggy bag. Overall, a good choice but would like to feel the ambiance on a very busy evening and would most definately like to see a better pouring of Guinness starting with a clean glass and a decent head that isn't below the shamrock. No bubbles observed which is a good thing but Guinness deserves to be provided under better conditions expecially at over £7 for a pint.

This place is really a great stop after visiting the Observatory. My phone died, so I wasn’t able to snap any photos, but the service was great and the food was delicious. They even let me charge my phone near one of the registered while we ate. Very hospitable! Moses recommends the Greenwich Tarven especially when your stomach and your phone are empty.

The Sunday roasts are awful. Everything clearly comes straight out of the microwave, and cooked days before. The meat was terrible. Staff although friendly are clueless

We used to frequent this place for standard lunch and Sunday lunch. It was always great but on a visit in December we recieved slow service and the food wasn't up to the quality we're used to. They were clearly too busy to provide the service we've been used to over the years but it looked like they were still accepting walk-ins. A real disappointment. will probably give it another go after the December busy season but wed not go back if we had a similar expereince.

We had a wonderful day in beautiful Greenwich when we came upon an ideal spot for lunch for 5. The atmosphere is delightful and the food was quite good. We had a fish burger, beef burger, chicken burger, falafel platter and a bruschetta plus of course a Guinness. Great stop in a great city.

Nice pub and nice food just a bit expensive but what do you expect I guess as right outside one of the entrances to Greenwich Park!

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and tasty cocktails. Seems to have a really relaxed atmosphere where you can happily chat with friends and family over a drink as well as a bite to eat.

Most of coffee had spilt out of the cup as there was no stopper in the lid and I asked for a mocha and there was no chocolate sprinkle and it didn’t even taste like it had any chocolate in it poor

Just had a beautiful meal at the Eltham GPO. Everything was delicious and nicely cooked. We couldn't fault anything, whatsoever. Our waitress was lovely. Very attentive. Such a nice evening. Will definitely be returning soon.
