Great food, great service great beer!

I had a real bad experience, as never in my life have I had a beer glass smell so rotten, after a sip of beer I had to swap my beer wid my partner who agreed the glass smelt foul, please check your beer glasses 🍻, before serving in future, I honestly never want to go back

We booked the function room at the Southbrook Inn for a family celebration and we couldn't be happier. The private garden that comes with it is a definate bonus. Julie and Alun were very accomodating and did a BBQ for us. It was perfect; the food was plentiful and well cooked. Our Veggie guests were well catered for too. The function room is spacious and as we had infants and small children at the event there was plenty of room inside for toys and outside play for the older ones. The toilets and baby changing area are sparkling clean and new. We had the best day and can't thank Julie, Alun and their team enough for the excellent friendly service. The Southbrook Inn is a Gem in Swindon Centre and we would definately recommend and book here again.

No food available,, except when Premier league was on,,,, it was on, but apparently today was an exception... Great old style pub,, good beers,, good location..just check kitchen is open before you go

Lovely little hidden away pub. Sunday dinner was very lovely with everything cooked well. Staff attentive and friendly, was a very hot Sunday and the restaurant area was exceedingly hot which was a little uncomfortable for us and being unable to have the door held open but overall was lovely.

Had our wedding reception here on Saturday for 60 people and it was brilliant! Julie, Alun and the rest of the team were amazing! Buffet went down a storm and was delicious. The function room is closed off to the rest of the pub and has its own garden which makes it that little bit more intimate and private to the rest of the pub. Thank you so so much for hosting our special day and would highly recommend to anyone looking to host a party for around 60 people as it was just the right size ❤️.

Surprise party for me, amazing. Lovely venue, staff were friendly and attentive, buffet food was delicious and they were wonderful accommodating my sister who has serious allergies and they made an amazing platter for her, thank you.

Great country-feel pub in middle of Swindon. We popped in one evening with my girlfriend straight after work and both loved the interior, drinks, snacks all the rest. Very friendly gentleman behind the bar too.

Lovely traaditional pub with great friendly staff

I have not been to this pub for many years. A friend said how good the food was, so we tried it for lunch. The choice was very good and the food had a homemade feel. A place to revisit - maybe for Sunday lunch - as that menu looked good as well.

What a lovely family run pub, hidden away along a side street, it's surprising to find such a large pub at the end of the road. Excellent pub grub with local meat, all dietary requirements were catered for, particularly when we called ahead. Highly recommend! A special mention to June too, she really went above and beyond to offer vegan friendly options

Wasn't very impressed with the staff, came across very blunt and unwelcoming when trying to engage in any conversation and wouldn't serve the kids pop at the function room bar. Hiring out the function room kids were playing in the courtyard, overheard staff swearing about the state of the place in front of children, just mearly because of some leaves and flowers where the kids were playing nothing a broom wouldn't solve in five minutes. Also requested some spoons for our food we had brought, told can't have any as didn't pay for the catering would it of killed them? considering the sheer amount of money spent on alchohol and cost of the function room I would expected a much better approach to it all, needs serious improvement as this is now an Arkells chain.

My wife and I were married Sat and had our reception here. It was an amazing night Firstly Alun and Julie, the Landlord/Lady are organised and dealt with all the details for the night, They recommended New Dimensions for the Disco and they were on time, really helpful and put on a great show at a reasonable price. Nothing was too much trouble. We decorated the room but they cleared everything up to save us the trouble. The venue is great. It has a decent size room (we were numbered about 75) and that would have been fine. But it was a lovely day and they have a great outdoor area lined with roses that was brilliant for guest who don't like music and wanted to chat. Lots of chairs and table and toilets for the sole use of the function room and a separate entrance to the pub . The food was cooked by Julie. This included Goan Curry, Chicken Curry, Chilli Con Carne Pizza, Sandwiches. Basically anything we wanted all at reasonable prices. The best though, in my opinion is the 3 bean Chilli. I'm anything but vegetarian and would eat my young if needed but the Veg Chilli is sensational. You must try it. I read the review about the bar staff and couldn't disagree with that experience more. The staff were helpful, attentive worked hard, friendly and we had a great night without any issues. This is a good pub/restaurant with proper landlord/landlady who want to give everyone who comes in a decent experience. Our guests were very complimentary on all the things I have listed above. One last point. My best man, his wife and I were the last ones to leave at 1.15am. Alun was out quietly litter picking around the grass and car park. No noise or fuss. Just another show of the attention to detail. Thank you much for making our evening perfect and we will come back soon Rob

Ignored by the staff. We called in for a drink, waited at the bar whilst the lady behind the bar was taking a food order, after a few minutes a man spoke over my shoulder and ask her for drinks he wanted. The regular customer (she knew his name so it's fair to assume he's a regular) was then served despite the staff member knowing we were still waiting. Clearly customers that are not regular are not welcome or certainly take their place low down the order, so we walked out and will not bother going back. We went elsewhere for food and drinks.

The weather was lovely and everything went downhill from there. Maybe ok for locals and you want to talk speedway. We didn't and always seemed to be last to be served. Place reminded us of the 1980's and that included the poor menu. In my opinion Arkells normally produce a decent pint, unfortunately this was not the case on our visit. Maybe the warm weather tainted it? I wouldn't recommend it to friends or anyone visiting Swindon. On a plus the toilets were ok.

We had our wedding blessing reception at the Southbrook inn. The food was lovely and we were made so welcome. All staff were friendly and helpful. Venue was spotlessly clean too. Would highly recommend.

It only made 3 stars due to the efforts of the frount of house lady to try and sort things out. Otherwise it would be down to 1 A large group had pre ordered from the standard menu for lunch before leaving. on arrival the right hand bar had been reserved for us. Unfortunately the food when it arrived went seriously wrong. Several of the fish meals were burnt black on the chips were cold. Lasagnua was served in dishes of several sizes. The small ones were less than half the big one. At least one Chicken was so cold it was pink when cut. 1 Meal arrived over hour late. The only savour was the genuine aplogy from the lady seving and refunds or repacments offered. Beer only Arkels 3 real ales on hand pump was good. Toilets and pub clean. Clearly the staff could not cope it may have been better to offer a reduced choice as reviewed in another recent pub wehen they had to deal with a large group.

Went here after are walk. We let them no how many for lunch before hand. Most disappointed a lot of us had the fish which was very over cooked. Had to send back. Over alll the food was disgusting. Not be going back, there was about 30 of us . Most disappointed as had a very good review in the past.

I stopped by this pub on the recommendation of my brother who is a speedway fan. The pubs landlord is also the manager of the local speedway team and he has memorabilia of the team around the pub. After introducing myself, made to fell very welcome by Alun and the locals in the pub. They even ordered a taxi for me at the end of the night.

Polite friendly staff food and service were excellent nice and clean had a lovely meal and will definitely be going back.

Went with friends on a sunday just for drinks and catchup and sat in the Lovely garden in the beautiful sunshine. Met the owners who are Lovely too

Visited Saturday afternoon and stood at the bar waiting whilst every regular was served before us even though we were clearly there first, to then be served alcohol by a girl who looked no older than 14! Sat outside to enjoy some sunshine which was also ruined by a group of people a few tables away smoking weed (lots of children around but apparently this is ok as the owner didn't say a word when collecting their glasses), being extremely loud and we even watched one of them repeatedly kick the bonnet of what I hope was his car! Shame.

Such a shame the new owners are not what this pub needs, bad service, food not great so disappointed, will never use this for a function again, word and mouth is everything, need to listen to customer's to make this place work.

Decided to take a well earned Friday family lunch and chanced across the Southbrook Inn Swindon. The pub looks like it has recently undergone a refurbishment. The food was excellent served in good time and was fantastic value. Would recommend to friends they should pay a visit.

I recently visited the Southbrook inn for Sunday lunch with friends, on a cold day we received a warm welcome even though it was very busy. The meal was fabulous, plenty on your plate and pipping hot just how it should be. The pub has just gone through refurbishment as new landlords have recently taken over and the decor is welcoming. I found it to have a really good atmosphere and most definitely will be returning.

Visited this restaurant recently. Greeted by main entrance surrounded by smokers. Awful and unnecessary! Went into the dining area and waited quite some time to be served. Eventually we were placed at one of the empty (of which there were lots) tables to await service. None of the tables at this stage were dressed ready for customers. Our meals came but we had no cutlery or extras so had to wait for these. Meal was ok, not very hot, but ok. Not great. Young female waiters handed meals to us, returning some time later to ask if all awas ok. No personality at all, just doing what they had been told. Another older member of bar staff was very loud and rough sounding. Bar staff need to be charming and pleasant. These gave nothing. Then she very loudly told two young children they were strange because they did not want pudding as they did not eat sweets. Good parents I say. Absolutely no friendly atmosphere here at all. We will not be returning.

After reading the reviews on trip advisor we visited The Southbrook last night, the bar was very full and we had to fight our way through to a bar containing a skittle ally and a pool table. There was a skittle game in progress and five men who looked like they had been working on a building site were playing pool. The language of the pool players was foul and loud, they kept opening, what looked like fire doors so they could smoke and carry on their conversation with their friends. The drinks were expensive and service very slow. This was a Friday night when you expect pubs to be busy but we couldn't leave quick enough.

Seeing a feature in a sports magazine i booked sunday lunch for myself and my wife we arrived early and had a drink in the bar i had a pint of arkells bitter a very nice drink after our drinks we went into the eating area the choice of menu was chicken, beef, or vegeterian we decided on the chicken ,the plates were large and square the whole plate was covered with half a chicken roast potatoes cabbage runner beans peas carrots, brocolithis is a very popular pub tends to go for motorsports on the t.v thats because the landlord is the manager of swindon speedway and the british team this is a great down to earth pub with a good atmosphere.

A proper pub and a great place for a few beers before heading to the Country Ground to watch the Mighty Swindon Town FC! 3Bs and Christmas Ale were both spot on and great to be able to watch football on the big screen as well. Very enjoyable visit!

Popped in for lunch today and had a really nice surprise - food was excellent; fresh and home cooked - no Chef Mikes here! Also very reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and welcoming too - excellent value for money. Thank you.

A welcome breath of fresh air for this interesting hidden gem. Clearly a new chef is on the scene and clearly he has some good ideas. We enjoyed a works lunch (table of 8) and the food was excellent - all round. Good menu offering and very reasonable pricing. (Gastro quality without the gastro prices.) I'll definitely be returning, and I'd thoroughly recommend anyone to try this new chef out ! Top draw....

I recently hired the function room with catering for a joint anniversary/birthday party for my parents. I really couldn't fault it! I am not from Swindon and have never been to The Southbrook before so I was a little bit dubious about what to expect - I needn't have worried. The room is lovely with its own entrance, bar and beautiful little private courtyard. The food was great, there was so much of it, and good quality too. The girls behind the bar were brilliant, really friendly and lively and the dj's absolutely smashed it! They took the time to come out and chat to the birthday boy and girl, to find out what they liked and played great music all night. Thanks to Dave and Ross, you're obviously doing something right, everyone had a great time and lots commented about the lovely venue. I would definitely recommend The Southbrook Inn.

We booked a joint 40th birthday party here and it was perfect for what we needed. DJ was spot on with the music. Highly recommend this venue.

Out of the way but well worth the effort. Popped in before a football match to avoid the Town centre offerings. Great Arkells with several pints going down well both before end after the match. Great building too. Recommended.

As pubs go the southbrook inn is a cosy Friendly pub . as a long term local if you support rugby you dont stand a chance, football always gets preference 365 days a year. We get rugby for 6- weeks of the year , cant the soccer be put on hold just for 6 weekends a year

Extremely helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Great Sunday lunch- beef- with lots of fresh vegs, homemade fab Yorkshire puds, gravy in gravy boat. Warm and cosy on a Jan day.

every experience at the southbrook has been a good one. Me and my husband are regulars to the southbrook, and recently had a birthday party where we was looked after at all times. The bar staff was amazing on the night and are every time we come in. Most sundays there is a young lad behind the bar called Ryan who is always welcoming, constantly working fast to make sure everyone is served, whilst keeping a smile even when it's busy. Will continue returning to the southbrook as we can garuntee excellent customer service.
