Staff seem disorganised and not very customer friendly. It was a busy with the tables full or reserved for guests arriving in over an hours time. We saw several people walk out as there were told there were no seats which seemed a shame. This while several customers were sat at tables who had clearly had finished their coffee or meals. Better organising of tables into 2/3 and put them together if 4/5 want to sit together, as a few tables for 4 we just occupied by 2. Our coffee and scones were pleasant.

We came for breakfast this morning, arriving around 9.40 first thing I noticed was a lot of dead flies on windowsills, this is basic cleanliness and should have been picked up as soon as shop opened. The breakfasts were OK however milk jug which I shared with a friend was not clean, inside around top looked as though it was old milk/cream obviously hadn't been scrubbed, yes I should have mentioned it at time but had already complained so I didn't. We wont be back a shame because hadn't been there for some time never had a problem when it was Brooks.Place actually felt grubby, this from the male member of group. I hope these comments help just more attention needed.

Very rude and disinterested staff. Waited around at the counter for 5 minutes before having to seat myself and then was ignored and ended up walking out! Place was not busy at all, so you would think they would welcome the custom. Reviews on TripAdvisor provide a truer picture than Google!

We called in for coffee and a light snack on a cool summers day. Welcome was non existent as we were not acknowledged and found our own table. Appreciate costs are rising but £6 for a toasted teacake with butter plus an extra £1.50 for 2 teaspoons of jam - really?? We also ordered ham & cheese croissants which were served without garnish ( which was extra) and did not look appetising. Coffee average - we will not return

Trip back to Highworth after moving out of town and decided to come to the Old The Old Bakery - Highworth for breakfast. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. In fact, I came away with a feeling of hunger and anger and the strong feeling of having been ripped off. I appreciate we are living through a period of high inflation, and that you have rent, rates, utilities, COS and staffing costs to cover but I am not sure how you can justify charging £6 for one small poached egg on a mediocre slice of under toasted slice bread. I am hoping that it is just a case of choosing the wrong menu item, however even my husband’s cooked breakfast was not great. I won’t be returning.

Staff are friendly, but not really customer oriented, food very over priced for what it is, its nice but not exceptional, as the price would suggest. Also, the eggs benedict is certainly NOT eggs benedict in any resemblance, its eggs on a supermarket muffin over cooked bacon with a mustard sauce, which maybe to some peoples taste, but not if you are expecting a rich butter sauce, which is what a hollandaise is meant to be, no mustard involved....not sure what's happened to this place, but unfortunately we won't be back, but wish them the best for the future.

Went today My partner and I both had eggs benny. Firstly they put cracked black pepper on top of the hollandaise sauce, thats a personal pet peev of mine as I don't like pepper at all, I'm a grown woman I can season the top of my own food thankyou. Secondly we both complained about the sauce being overly spicy, the young girl who served us apologised but didn't say anything about my uneaten lunch, no replacement offered or taking it off the bill. Then when she took the plates back into the kitchen, we overheard the conversation with the chef and staff member, which was unfortunate. He didn't bother to come to speak to us and neither did any other staff member, Charged £32 and left feeling very uncomfortable ,like we had done something wrong for daring to say we didn't enjoy the homemade sauce

A disappointing breakfast experience for a café that used to have such charm.. Our waitress seemed averse to welcoming or looking customers in the eye. When the cappuccinos eventually arrived they were mediocre in flavour and not that hot. The eggs benedict on a small piece of sourdough were a perfect consistency with good ham, but all spoiled by a thick acidic yellow sauce, impossible to completely scrape off, which tainted every vinegary bite. The bacon & egg sandwich wasn't as nasty, but who believes a hard fried egg with the bacon in lacklustre bread makes a good breakfast sandwich? Buck your ideas up if you want your customers to return.

My baby daughter and I popped in for a bit of breakfast as a spur of the moment treat. There were no menus on display ( that I could see) and I initially enquired about a bacon sandwich. My daughter has a milk, soya and oat allergy and ( as we would be sharing the food) I explained it would need it to be free of these allergens. I also told them my daughter had not been sleeping and I was really tired and would appreciate their advice. I said we really didnt mind what we had. The chef suggested the hash browns were safe so we ordered two eggs, two slices of bacon and two hash browns with beans. I also ordered a latte. I offered to pay up front ( I wish I had) but was told I should do this at the end. I have to say the food was delicious and we really enjoyed it. When I came to pay I was rather shocked to see that this came to just over £16! We paid and went on our way. Whilst walking around Highworth we spoke to several locals who were also surprised and encouraged me to go back and query the price. This I did, and it was at this stage that I was finally shown a menu -given to me from behind the counter. Upon looking at the menu, I was surprised to see much larger breakfasts ( the majority of which could have been made allergy freindly with the removal of some items), at a much more reasonable price, including a large vegan option at just under £10! It was explained to me, in a rather uninterested way, that our breakfast was expensive because the items had been charged for individually as additional items. I am more than a little upset that at no point during our initial conversation was I shown a menu or had this explained to me. Whilst I am annoyed to have spent slightly more money than I needed to, the thing that really upsets me is the feeling of being taken advantage of and the lack of care or engagement of the staff involved. I was made to feel rather silly for ordering food individually when no other option was offered to me. Whilst the food was good, the poor customer service left a sour taste in my mouth. As a family we love to support local businesses, but sadly we will not be returning to this one.

Took a friend here today as I had been several times before and had wonderful fresh scones. What they sold us today were dry and stuck to our gums like glue . Disgraceful selling old scones you would have been better binning them and saying your sold out. My bill for three coffees a tea and two dried up scones was £16.90 a total disgrace. You have lost a customer where you have been so mean as to sell old dried up scones. I will never darken your door again or recommend you to anyone. If you think this is the way to do good business you are very mistaken.

Came for brunch recently and found the service to be really good, friendly and efficient. We all had the breakfasts, a large, a small and a vegetarian. Our drinks, a coffee, soya hot chocolate and cappuccino were tasty and hot. The veggie breakfast was lovely, particularly enjoyed the baked/grilled avocado. A vegetarian/vegan sausage would have been nice with it or at least as an extra option to order. The other breakfasts were slightly let down by the sausages been overdone as well as the bacon and eggs, nothing that a few tweaks won’t sort out.

We waited for approximately 15/20 mins after being handed the menus and, despite it being empty, no one came to take our order. The door was open and when asked if they could close it we were told they weren't allowed. We decided to leave because we didn't expect to have to wear coats etc when having our meal. We had lunch in here on a Friday and it was reasonably busy but not so much that a dog and a pram got in the way. We had great coffees and good tasting food for reasonable value. The downside was the size of the portion of quiche and salad. Whilst the salad was a good portion, the quiche was an eighth of a whole. Considering Bloomfields do a quarter of a whole for around the same money (and have several different varieties) just up the road, it’s surprising. All of the other portions of food were quite good and reasonable, particularly the vegan/veggie breakfast.

We fancied a change from the hotel restaurant and the menu the Freke Arms offered had plenty of gluten-free options as well. We booked and received a message back quickly confirming the booking. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table promptly. Menu options were explained clearly and there were several specials on offer. The food we received was plentiful and very tasty indeed and the beer and wine were delicious. All the staff were friendly and we had a good chat about the pub as it had a bit of history. Karen and her staff went above and beyond and the service we received was first class. If we are ever in the area again we would certainly stop by the Freke Arms for a meal.
