It used to be wonderful, with knowledgeable staff, a fabulous chef and amazing food..fresh seafood and unusual creative dishes. Now it’s microwave ordinary pub food comprising burgers and ready battered fish steaks! Yuck! Kids activities fill the once lovely dining area, rubbish music playing too ! Such a shame, as it was a destination pub renowned for it’s fabulous menu.. can’t say that now!

Lovely little country pub, very handy if you stay at the campsite just round the corner. It's dog friendly and sells decent pork scrapings to go with the local beers.

Good welcome and friendly vibes all round. Cosy traditional ambience. Booked a table for Saturday evening for 5 and had a great evening. The staff were very accomodating and attentive. Varied menu. The food was delicious, well presented with generous portions. The recommended lasagna was indeed zingy and legendary. Fish platter generous, juicy and beautifully cooked. We don t usually go for deserts but they suggested small plates and all were really smooth and well worth the choices The Italian merlot was very smooth and rich, the chilean sauvignon perfect with the seafood.

We booked in for breakfast and it was simply delish!!!! We got to meet the new landlord , Ryan. He simply couldn’t do enough to make our breakfast good. If you have kids then these guys understand that and know how to keep them entertained! The kids enjoyed colouring while we had a coffee and waited for our breakfast. The kids has waffles and chocolate spread with strawberries. We had the the full English. The mushrooms are to die for! We will be back! Great place to start your day. We've just had our Sunday lunch here and my nut roast was really tasty - one of the nicest I've had - the Yorkshire pud was homemade, the pork was tender and there was a good selection of vegetables. We both had dessert and coffee and couldn't fault the service from Katy and Jodi. It was all so good that it could become a habit! Ryan and his team have definitely brought this lovely pub back to life.

The Sorrell Horse is in transition between owners. The menu is much reduced and there is a general sense of hand over. Young staff did brilliantly given obvious limitations and the menu that was available was generally excellent. Wish them all the best at the next stage. We recently enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Sorrel Horse with friends. It was a night full of delicious food, wonderful wine and great service! All cooked to perfection and washed down with a bottle of wonderful white Rioja!

Just had a really disappointing experience here. Previously I have raved about this place because everything about it has been wonderful; sadly today was a complete contrast. There were only 2 people serving but even so, there were so few customers, it shouldn’t have made a difference. We had to wait a good half hour for our food, and although it was lovely and hot, we sad were not impressed with the service. Charlie, the lad serving, was lovely and efficient, the other lad not so, and why does no-one answer the phone? We heard it ringing endlessly, and indeed, I couldn’t get through on the phone either. Feel very disappointed.

Love this place and the fish selection available on the menu. We arrived on a Saturday and used the online booking system but I don’t recall it giving us the option to tell them we were bringing 3 dogs with us. We arrived early and popped in to say we had 3 dogs and the lovely guy who was leaving the next day arranged a nice table for us in the main bar. Some people arrived after us for lunch and headed for the dining area with dogs but needed to be redirected as clearly didn’t know dogs are not allowed in the dining room. We prefer the main bar as is nice and spacious and great if you are bringing dogs. Oysters were amazing as always and the lobster was great although I would prefer the salad that accompanied it to be in a separate dish rather than on the wooden board. Can’t wait to come back here it’s amazing and if I lived locally I would be there every week. Thanks for a great lunch.

The Sorrel Horse is in a great spot. Sitting outside this lovely thatched pub in the sunshine, pint in hand after one of the pubs suggested walks, was delightful. The pub has a good reputation for food and having previously eaten when guest chef Maria Elia was resident, we had high expectations. Positives: location, wine and beer very good, service very friendly and efficient. The sourdough bread (sourced from the genius baker, Harvey Allen...Harvey and Co) was top notch. Disappointments: the food. The menu was not extensive which usually is a sign that the chef does a few thing very well. It was a fairly standard pub menu which again is fine if it is prepared really well. I opted for the whitebait, which were passable but a tad dry and not a patch on those to be found at the Eels Foot Inn, East Bridge which are reliably large, crisp and juicy). I then had the house burger which was really awful. The mince was overworked, thin rubbery and overcooked. The bun was overly toasted, the sauce was unremarkable. The whole thing was exceptionally dry. At £18 this was outrageous. My wife's scampi were mediocre and also expensive at £18. I know food prices and running costs have gone up and times are hard for the catering industry. It is crucial to support our pubs and restaurants. But not at any cost. It really isn't hard to make a really good burger! If you have a good reputation, then consistently earn it, don't rely on it.

We phoned and booked a table for the Friday night oyster happy hour from 5.00 until 6.00 , at the time of booking we were told we couldn’t have a table until 5.30 but whatever oysters we ordered would be honoured under the happy hour offer… after travelling 20 miles to reach the pub , we were put on the smallest table in the pub … there was no one else in the restaurant!! We were then informed that the oyster happy hour had been stopped!! Considering they had our telephone number we felt they could of phoned and told us at the start of the week !! We looked on the pubs website and the offer was still on the sorrel horses web page, and it still is now as I write this review!!!! We did inform them that they were advertising illegally and if we were trading standards there would be a big fine !!! After confronting the waitress about this they did eventually agree to honour the offer….by this time there were still no customers in the restaurant considering we wanted to have a table at 5.00 .. We ordered a dozen oysters and whitebait .. the oysters were nice and fresh but the whitebait was nice but six pieces of whitebait for £10 really!!! We had king prawns and fries for main which were ok … there we’re still no customers in the restaurant!!! I hate being ripped off !!! We will not be back…….

We had a fantastic lunch at this lovely quaint pub. The seafood platter was wonderful, which we had with truffle fries. This was followed by an affogato and an Irish coffee. We booked an evening meal at the Sorrel Horse for our date night and we were not disappointed. The menu gave so much choice and i especially like the range of fish offerings available. Our meal was delightful. I also cannot fault the service which was friendly and attentive.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in the area and came across this little gem of a place. We were advised when we rang that we couldn't eat outside but that wasn't a problem and received a warm welcome on our arrival. We ordered our food and were told there might be a bit of a wait but that wasn't the case as the starters arrived within 15 mins and subsequent courses arrived really quickly. The food was delicious and my usually hard to please Dad remarked that his lemon sole was marvellous. We all managed to squeeze in a dessert and my son said it was the best brownie he had ever eaten so it must have been good as he has eaten quite a few over the years! The staff were really friendly and efficient and the chef should be commended as we all thoroughly enjoyed our food.We will definitely be recommending The Sorrel Horse to friends and family and will hopefully pay another visit in the not too distant future so thank you for a lovely lunch.

Enjoyed a very pleasant lunch sitting outside in the sunshine. No ‘garden’ we were aware of, but nice outside areas with plenty of seating. Great food and although they don’t offer a traditional Sunday roast, plenty of other places do if that’s what you’re looking for.

Visited early doors on one of their pizza nights. Pizzas were really nice and washed down with a couple of nice wines then the experience was perfect. Must come back when there is the full menu on.

A lovely pub in Shottisham village, lovely food and excellent service. Can highly recommend the skate cheeks and smoked cannelloni starters, the burger and local ham were very good too, the ham is the nicest tasting ham i’ve had. The pub also has wood fired pizza nights on Monday and Tuesdays, has a lovely seating at front and garden at the back. Will definitely be going back when next in Suffolk.

Easy to find following the brown tourist signs out of Woodbridge, driving past the famous Sutton Hoo its about 7 miles and SO worth the drive! We were welcomed by the friendly team who have taken over this gorgeous old pub, which has had a fantastic make over this year. I love old beamed buildings, steeped in history and this whole pub has an incredible warm & welcome feeling, like your favourite home but better because it is a Freehouse and offers a wide range of drinks for every taste. The front garden is heaven to sit in with beautifully tended flowers, rambling roses and clean well shaded family benches, The Street in Shottisham has probably not changed for centuries, quiet with just the occasional car (probably coming to the pub!) The menu has something everyone will love, it was hard to choose! Fish features on the menu, lobster, crab, mussels, bass, oysters & Cod & Wild Garlic Kiev, which I ordered and as a former fishmonger I was blown away by how incredible this tasted, succulent thick flakes of cod cooked to perfection, my family ordered the Burger supplied by Salter & King a local butcher the meat is free-range & organic, cooked to your desired taste, what more could you ask for? For desert an amazing Choux and Chocolate BrownieWe will definitely be returning soon to be once again completely spoilt with food we could not have cooked at home - thanks so much!

We sat in the garden in the sun and enjoyed watching the world go by in the village. We decided to stay for pizza. They are freshly cooked and there are a delicious range to choose from. We really like thin based so they were perfect for us. The new owners are very friendly and it was an all round great experience.

I stopped off for a pint and a bite. I had the Terene of ham and parsley as there wern't any sandwiches which the web site said were available. The contents were ok but the rubber rings on the kilner jars that it came in were grubby and perished. This was of course mentioned to the waitress who said that she'd take it up with the kitchen. This made me wonder about the things I didn't see. Otherwise it's an attractive pub with an outdoor area where you can eat and watch the world go by.

If you enjoy fresh seafood and fantastic wine this is the pub for you! We recently visited this pub for a music event they put on (country music in the back field) and booked a table beforehand. We arrived slightly earlier than expected, we were greeted by a lovely girl who told us we could have a drink outside the front before our table inside (a gin and tonic and wonderful glass of Chablis). We were informed that the pub was under new management, the interior looked freshly painted so I am guessing they had done a revamp. The restaurant and bar area were very clean and covid restrictions were in place.I started with half a dozen oysters and my husband had the tempura skate cheeks. Both starters were delicious and you could tell very fresh. We both had the lobster for main - its not often you find half a lobster for £19.50! It did not disappoint! We were told the lobsters were local from Felixstowe Ferry and they were delicious!! Served in a wild garlic butter, green salad and chips! With this we enjoyed a bottle of the Chablis - which really is worth it!For dessert we shared the cheese board which was a selection of Suffolk Cheeses and fresh bread. The perfect end to our meal....we then wondered up to the field (feeling comfortably full) and enjoyed the live music.A wonderful pub with an exciting menu - would highly recommend! Looking forward to our next visit already!

We booked a table here on a Saturday afternoon, based on the excellent reviews, as we were staying locally. We also liked the idea of supporting a community owned pub, rather than a bland pub chain. After walking a couple of miles across fields to get there, we were ready for a drink and some food. First impressions were good: the pub garden out front was busy, despite the inclement weather and we were glad to be inside. Looked lovely and clean and good social distancing. A warm welcome from the young waitress, our drinks were served promptly and both our drinks went down well. Then onto our meals. We both ordered the goats cheese and spring onion croquetas for starters. These were overly deep fried and served on a bed of mixed salad leaves that were swimming in grease and what appeared to be tomato ketchup. The croquetas were bland to the point of no taste whatsoever. How can both goats cheese and spring onions have no taste? We both gave up after a few bites and looked ahead to our main courses. I had the Sorrel burger and my wife tried the lamb in red wine jus. The burger was the WORST I have ever tasted. The bun had collapsed from being slathered with what appeared to be half a bottle of mayonnaise, on both halves of the bun. I tried scraping it off, but the bun was so sodden it just fell into a mushy sludge. I forged on, hoping to recover something from inside, but the patty was over-cooked, the bacon underdone and swimming in grease. Two different members of staff asked mechanically if everything was OK and I said no and picked the sludge bun and let it drip onto my plate up to demonstrate. Both said they were sorry, but nothing else. No new burger, no offer of another course or refund. My wife said the lamb was incredibly bland, couldn’t taste anything and the potato gratin item could have been cardboard. And no, we didn’t have COVID symptoms, as we both could taste our lovely pint of Wherry and G&T! The bottle of red Rioja we had was just OK, for £30 and there was a lot of sediment in both of our wine glasses at the end. Overall, we were massively disappointed, as well as hungry, as we walked the 2 miles back across the fields to the place we were staying. The very young serving staff tried to be helpful, but were obviously inexperienced and perhaps the chef had a bad day. However, we would have expected some recompense or offer of a replacement meal/refund/ free drink. My wife and I are not complainers by nature, so we didn’t push the matter any further with the young and very apologetic waitress. If she hadn’t apologised so many times, we would have given a one star review. We understand that this is a rural pub serving food and not a Michelin starred restaurant, but our experience certainly did not match that indicated by other glowing reviews.

Authentic Pie, Mash n' liquor in Felixstowe - I popped in here after a couple of beers on the front - lovely pies, good old mash and proper liquor - knife, fork and spoon for the liquor, with vinegar, just like in London SE1 - interesting photos of England football stars and a bit of banter with the owner. All in all a great lunch and long may they thrive in Felixstowe.

Had a lovely afternoon tea, which was beautifully presented. Nice to have the option to have it at lunchtime as ‘lunch’ although we still didn’t manage it all! Took the rest home for later - also lovely to be able to bring our dog too!

If you want smashed avocado on sourdough with pea shoots and other unnecessary greenery then this cafe is not for you. But if you want the best quality full English, fresh unfussy honestly presented British and local food then you’re in the right place. Always a warm welcome, seriously tasty local food, simply cooked and unpretentiously presented. Today’s special were some seriously big juicy scallops which I had with my full English and they were an inspired combination and very popular. Thanks Sean for another outstanding breakfast. Keeping consistent standards like this is a real labour of love but it shines through in the food. Lovely breakfast and not an avocado in sight. PS a ‘greasy spoon’ this is not!

A lovely lunch at The Fox. After a walk round the newbourn springs nature reserve. We shared two starters, bao buns and nachos, banana fritters desert and it was plenty. Very tasty and quick. Excellent staff always attentive. A little bit warmer and we would have sat outside which we have done in the summer. Recommend unreservedly.
