As name suggests, railway next door, delightful to visit, good food, wheelchair friendly, free parking, toilets, dog friendly, booking essential.

Fabulous stay here. Brilliant hotel, rooms, food, and location. Especially good if you're a rail enthusiast and into freight. You get what you pay for, and the trains aren't too loud from the rooms. Comfortably got to sleep even though they run throughout the night.

Great service and good venue but disappointing food particularly the bread. I was expecting granary bread on my halloumi and roasted veg sandwich. What I got was thin sliced brown bread that went soggy, not pleasant. The halloumi was lovely, the roasted vegetables negligible. Thank heaven also ordered a bowl of chips which were good otherwise I would have been hungry!

We came here tonight for a meal on our dad’s anniversary, with our grandparents. The pub looks absolutely beautiful, the new decor looks stunning! Warm and inviting. We all cleared our plates, all having something different. The food all came out hot and together. Just wanted to say- you are by far the best pub I’ve visited in ages. The mini golf looks great, the beer garden looks so looked after. Well done- the hard work to improve your pub has paid off! We booked to come back for breakfast with Santa- and have high hopes for the breakfast. Thankyou very much

Had some lovely meals here. But will not be going anymore. Thought we were good customers. Sent email rather than leave a bad review, no reply. Went for sunday lunch, looked really good, meat was excellent until I found a strip of j cloth in my dinner. They forgot to put my banana on my dessert. The previous week spent over £500.00 celebrating our wedding, was very good. Staff really lovely

Lovely local pub can't fault it really except not much seating outside and when you do find a seat the vape from staff on there break is chocking

First time I’ve visited the Railway Inn and it certainly won’t be the last. Great value for money for high quality food! Family friendly with lots of other young children in the pub and a great outdoor area with ample parking! Think this might be our new favourite local!

This pub looks very basic from the outside, but that changes as soon as you walk in. Decorated modernly with ample Space for large groups and a nice warm feel to it. The pub welcomes families and children of all ages and makes everyone feel welcome! The food is really well priced and absolutely delicious and portion sizes are brilliant even for kids. There’s a great outdoor space with a mini golf in the back garden and ample parking! All in all, this is our new favourite local and we’ll be back in a heartbeat! 5🌟

Started ok but then person changed serving us, meal certainly looked the part but wasn't hot, the roast potatoes warm, no crisp or steam when cutting them. Was offered the dessert menu but they never came back to take the order. Disappointed seems we picked this for our anniversary..all went abit flat. Still worth a visit if you haven't been before 👍

Really nice pub/restaurant with friendly staff. We had a meal and thoroughly enjoyed the food (the pulled pork burger was fabulous). This was our first visit and certainly will not be the last.

I was really disappointed with our visit to the Railway. This wasn't our first visit but it was a first for Sunday lunch. While the service was friendly and polite, it was also inattentive, which suggests that they were under-staffed rather than unwilling. The biggest disappointment though, was the food. The set menu had a choice of roast pork, chicken and beef, with 2 courses for £19.50. The beef however had a premium of £2.50. I opted for the chicken. The chicken was thankfully small, it was so dry that it was an effort to eat. Perhaps more than a smear of gravy would have made the task easier. On the other hand, the batter pudding was soggy and the vegetables hard. On the up side, the roast potatoes were excellent. In summary, I think they could and should do better.

Great atmosphere. Lovely staff and owners Pete and Sarah taught all staff well.

We had a party of 12 for a family get together celebrating wedding. Food excellent, staff excellent. Very busy that night but no panicking everything went lovely. We go regularly breakfast, lunch or dinner also excellent service. You can't falt this place in anyway RECOMMEND ***** Maureen & Martyn

We had a very comfortable stay at the Railway Inn. The staff were very good. It's a lovely pub, and we would definitely stay there again. Only a few miles from Ipswich, but you were in the countryside.

Came here yesterday for my Mother's wake. Have to say that the service & food was absolutely superb. Couldn't fault it ! Grandkids enjoyed the golf also. I would certainly recommend yourselves to anyone. Thankyou

This has to be one of the best pub/restaurants that we have ever been to. The food and service were outstanding. I honestly can’t fault the food it was truly delicious. The decor is really lovely and the whole place has a great atmosphere. The beer garden is fabulous, mini golf area which is awesome, never ever seen one in a beer garden before and it has been set out so well. The children using it were having great fun. I would recommend trying the brisket, it was cooked to perfection. Add it to your list of places to visit.

Food was ok, not as good as expected. One order came through wrong, but we were reimbursed.

We went as a party of 22. The menu choices were good. We ordered in advance as requested for a large party. Everything was perfect. The hosts are very friendly. All the meals were served at the same time, despite many different choices. The food was very good and everyone was very happy. Thanks to all the staff. Would recommend and will definitely go again.

Lovely pub with a lovely function room at the back to hire for small occasions and now mini golf too.

Came to the Wine Pairing Evening on Tuesday. Outstanding fine dining food. Wonderful evening from start to finish in a relaxed but intimate setting at the rear of the pub. We felt like exclusive members of a secret club! We can't wait for the next one! Excellent night, thanks to all who organised the event ❤️ x

This hotel offers exceptional value. The grounds are lovely The staff are great The food is the best I have had from a uk hotel by far. They even offer commentary snacks and breakfast items in your room.

Stayed for one night, room was clean and ready on arrival, welcome was great, lovely location and great breakfast. Although cooked breakfast was additional to room rate there is fruit, tea, coffee, cereals, milk, water etc all available and included on the landing outside the room. Would stay her again.

Staff very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble

Poor service today I'm afraid. Very weak coffee also. Long delay in being served then asked for cappachinos x2 plus americano with milk served separate. Girl repeated but said while coffee twice told no but served the weakest froth coffee milk cup I've ever had. Tasted of nothing so did both capachinos. Returned the coffee asked again for americano black with side of milk. Yet again it came to me frothy milk included. 3 times for one coffee? When it did arrive coffee was horrible tasteless not like usual. Not apologetic at all in fact blamed us for misorder? Which was totally unjust. What a disappointment.

Went to the Railway for breakfast on Father's Day, didn't book a table but they managed to fit us in. Breakfast is top quality, good selection of choices. Staff really nice and we can take our dog.

Hadn't been here for a while and was always a favourite. Went for an early evening meal and noticed a lot had changed. There is now mini golf in the garden area and a function out building. We sat in the bar area as we had our dog with us and it was like being in a holiday park club house. Children running around screaming, adults shouting. Food was nothing like it used to be and looked nothing like the photos on website. A real let down.

One star for rooms as we have never stayed here so can’t really give a review but I’m sure they are nice. The pub,this is a lovely pub that had some really great food,lots of choices for drinks including alcohol free (which was actually really nice) nice seating outside and plenty of parking,great pub with lovely staff.

Held a surprise birthday meal for my daughter. 14 beautiful roast dinners including two vegetarian. Lovely kind staff and a really lovely evening. Highly recommend!!

My mum and I wanted to say a massive thank you to all the lovely staff who made my dad’s Celebration Of Life get together so special. The pub from outside as you come in looked so pretty with flowering planters and inside the pub is very clean and well decorated. The Buffet they put on for us was of good quality and the lovely lad who was assigned to look after us did an amazing job. I would highly recommend a visit. We will definitely be back very soon. Enjoyed Easter Sunday lunch here as a table of 7. We all had the roast and some starters or desserts. Slightly less meat than I'd like but everything was very tasty, pleasant service, lovely atmosphere. We will return to sample other dishes off the menu.

I stayed in the hotel for a week while attending the Suffolk Jazz School event. It's a lovely small pub/hotel on the outskirts of Ipswich and the staff can't do enough for you. It has a great restaurant and the staff were brilliant at helping us organise two Jazz School evening jam sessions there for around fifty attendees. In a world where the customer usually comes second, this place really knows how to look after their guests!

Great food, very friendly, helpful staff. The pub hosted two jam sessions here for Suffolk Jazz School these were wonderful events with a superb atmosphere.

Dessert was ok, not cheap and not memorable. My friend and I are both allergic to dogs and were dismayed to be sharing the space with 3 dogs which were allowed to sit on the upholstered seating! When did this become acceptable? If a child put their muddy shoes on a chair that other people will be sitting on soon they would be reprimanded. I don't understand why people bring their dogs to the pub, but if you must, please keep them on the floor. 1 in 5 of us is allergic to them and it would be kinder to us to leave your pet at home.

Great pub. Often busy but staff are very good at managing the busy lunch times and finding a table for you. Menu is very good and varied. Have eaten here multiple times with friends and family and received consistently good service every time. We recently had breakfast at The Railway and thoroughly enjoyed it - good value for money too.

Crazy golf and lunch ⛳️ My partner and I tried out the new crazy golf course yesterday, we really enjoyed it! Very good use of space and seating area surrounding so you can watch and have a drink from the outside bar. After we had lunch from the new £12 lunch menu, my partner had the BBQ pork belly Mac & cheese and I had the Croque Madame, both 10/10!!!

Great fish and chips to take away

We visited The Railway for the first time in ages upon the recommendation of some friends and were very impressed. The food was good quality with decent sized portions for the prices and some really interesting specials. My wife had beef wraps with chips and the wraps were made of Yorkshire pudding, though she would have preferred some roast veg with it rather than salad. I had the fish & chips and we both had meatball starters which contained chorizo and cheese and came with Dijon mayo. For dessert we had a lovely creme brulee with homemade biscuit and creme egg chocolate trifle. All very good. The staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive and seemed to really enjoying working there. All in all an excellent experience and we will definitely revisit, maybe for Sunday lunch.

I cannot fault The Railway Inn. We've been coming here for some years now and each time it doesn't disappoint. All staff are very attentive and the quality of food is fantastic. The menu regularly changes, so it offers a good opportunity to try something new each time; I most recently opted for the Honey and Garlic Halloumi on Udon Noodles, which was very good! We have also stayed here, and the rooms are equally as good, offering scenic countryside views. I'd happily recommend.

We managed to get a last minute booking for Mother's Day which was extremely lucky! Really good roast dinner, can recommend.

What a lovely pub, we went for lunch on Saturday, there were 9 of us and we had to prebook our meals. which wasn't an issue. The food arrived quicky but could tell our meals were freshly made. the staff were friendly. I would have given five stars if we were advised of the desserts on the special board.

Lovely country pub, brilliant food, very friendly staff and customers. Dog friendly!! Made our Newfoundland dog very welcome. We will be back soon.

I went there after a funeral. A room was set aside for the mourners. The room, service and food was excellent.

Twelve of us, including two young children, had a buffet lunch after my Mothers funeral. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. The Staff were very helpful and efficiently provided everything needed. Thank you for making our day end well.

Popped in for lunch lite bite. Really good service. Very friendly staff. We had best pork sausages and onion chutney sandwich, served with crisps and side salad. And shared a portion of cheesy chunky chips. Good quality food and very reasonable prices. Would recommend 😋

Just been for a meal following a visit to the cinema with my daughter and grandchildren. I haven't eaten here for a couple of years so wasn't sure what to expect, but the quality of the food and the way it was cooked was amazing! I had barbeque belly pork with fries and homemade coleslaw, salad and corn on the cob - the meat was so tender and plenty of it. My daughter had the beef in guineas pie, with veg and again the meat was so tender and very tasty! Kids had fish and burger served with chips, they really enjoyed it. Price was very good and service was excellent! Thank you to the staff!!

I’ve been going here for years and the development it has undergone is exceptional, wonderful staff with varying menus of great taste varying for all parties. Amazing beer garden super excited by the up and coming crazy golf there building as of right now, can’t speak higher of the place recommend it to anyone and everyone. Very fair prices hard to not return, good atmosphere so excited to see it up and running at full capacity in the summer. Really can’t speak any higher of a pub. Wouldn’t take my business anywhere else. 11/10

Amazing pub, fair prices and variety menu with choices for all, great food and very welcoming staff always welcoming us back so quickly became our new local with excellent food, entertainment and cheap beer. Very excited for the new mini golf course in the garden, can’t wait and very exciting to see a pub grow and vary with a new menu out since our last visit it keeps on bringing the wow factor. 11/10 would recommend to anyone.

Great service and staff and food

We arranged a surprise 50th birthday party here on a Saturday evening, they were able to cater to 20 of us and children all with different dietary requirements and they couldn’t have been more helpful. The menu was great and catered to old and young. Thank you so much to team who were so organised and happy to help with anything we ask.

Super venue in the garden room for a large party of mixed ages. We were 19 with 4 children. The staff were all charming and very efficient and attentive. Food was first class. Just perfect for a 70th Birthday celebration. Thank you

Excellent food I had the chicken and leek lasagne off the £12menue and it was beautiful packed with chicken breast and so tasty and a large portion. The best value in Suffolk and well worth a trip out there. Freindly efficient staff that served all 15 of us with speedily without any fuss. A 10 out of 10 from all of us. Well done and thank you.

We hired the Garden Room for our daughters 1st birthday and we had the best time! The space is lovely for an intimate and relaxed occasion. It was cosy but with lots of natural light on a grey wet day. The staff couldn’t have done more to accommodate us and the food was great. All our guests were really impressed and said they will be back to eat in the pub!

This is not a hotel, it is a pub/restaurant. Went for a pre Christmas meal with colleagues. Very nice food and well priced, £28 for 3 course. I'd recommend fish cakes, turkey, steak and the fish pie, also had the Christmas pudding GF version. They slso sell low alcohol Ghost Ship, really nice. Tgd cheese board dessert was huge, nice atmosphere and ample parking

I stayed at this excellent pub for two nights and on the Friday night had dinner there, ignoring the dicta of Mark Twain. My seafood platter lacked prawns as one would typically find included in Australia, but was otherwise most pleasant and reasonable value for money. The pub was busy for dinner but a solo table was found for me. Staff were fine, and the atmosphere buzzing. Toilets were clean. Can't ask for much more!

Family meal to celebrate a special occasion. We had 12 meals of which 4 were cold and undercooked and 1 was missing. We then ordered 6 desserts which unfortunately were not much improved with 1 being very tasteless and unpleasant and one still being frozen! Everything else about the place was nice except the food! Will not be coming back.

Post-funeral family gathering in the Garden Room. The staff were very efficient and unobtrusive, the catering was exceptionally good and the setting was perfect. Could not hve been improved on.

My family and I had lunch on Thursday and I’m afraid we were surprised by the amount of time we had to wait for our food to arrive . When it did arrive 3 out of 5 of us found our food to be lukewarm and disappointing. We didn’t complain about it as we didn’t want to cause a fuss. We won’t be returning anytime soon.

Family visit with a double and a twin room. Rooms are well stocked with toiletries, good tea tray and a complimentary brekkie of porridge pots and fruit. Welcoming staff and a lovely convenient location next to Westerfield train station ( 6 mins into Ipswich )

We had an excellent meal. The portions were generous and everything was tasty and well cooked. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Frequently used when we gather with friends on our visits to the area. It's a lovely place with an extremely pleasant atmosphere. Clean, neat, tidy and very welcoming. Good range of beers; excellent, well priced menu and good service. Will I ever be able to choose something other than the sea food platter - the best I've ever had?!

Came to the Westerfield Railway for some food and drinks with friends, the food was very nice, big portions and menu was big enough without being overwhelming. We were served by some girls who were very attentive and cheerful. The coleslaw was AMAZING would go...

We went here for our work summer do. The Railway Inn prepared a barbecue for a group of 11 and the food was delicious - a great range of quality hot dogs, burgers, chicken skewers and lots other food. Also, there was a good range...

Absolutely brilliant pub. Great selection of drinks (including ales) and top notch food. Went with work for a summer do and the staff knocked our socks off. The food was incredible and we couldn't believe the bounty that was laid in front of us - really high quality, fresh ingredients. Everything tasted amazing and the post-meal Barbie-themed drinks went down a treat.
