We went in there today for a quick bite before walking around Grafham Water. The pub's staff are very friendly - especially with my toddler grandson who was given toys to play with. The decor is a bit odd -orange and blue paintwork! -and the loos could do with a refurbish -but the food we had was lovely. We had parsnip soup with home made bread and a great pud called interestingly Crack Cake! Beware of the woodburning stove which smokes a lot -ha!

Coming from Canada it was lovely to have a nice traditional English pub supper after such a long time. The food was great! 4 had fish and 2 had the lasagna and both were outstanding! Great Staughton is not the prettiest of villages but the Snooty Tavern makes a visit there worthwhile. This pub is an unexpected gem in an unlikely spot and definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. The welcome is always warm and the food is always beautifully cooked.I planned to write this review in praise of the scallops I had there this week - perfectly caramelised on the outside, soft and silky inside served with a wonderfully smooth pea puree that provided a fresh, sweet balance to the dish. Lovely! However, having seen the review from Rachel m below, referring to an experience 8 months previously, I am moved to comment. We have had christmas lunch at the Snooty a number of times and have always had a great experience there. The food and service have always been excellent. If Rachel m was uncomfortable with the positioning of the high-chair I am sure that it could have been moved had they asked. As for the portion sizes, which I have always found to be generous, perhaps she might find that an all-you-can-eat carvery would be more to her liking. I understand that there is one in Bedford she could try next time.

we booked a table for 4 adultsand a 7month old to have christmas dinner in advance letting them no that one was a vegetarian (that does not eat fish) and one was allergic to fish. they said they would be able to provide for this. so we arrive on christmas day at the time we where told to and was taken to are table which was right outside the kitchen which the staff where walking in and out of with hot plates and they put the highchair right in the way which was dangerous but they had cramed you in there. so the starter comes and its fish so we say we had arranged for somthing different for two of us. the staff said that was all there was so we had no starter, then in the christmas dinner the meat eaters was small and only vegetable was brussel sprouts , two slices of turkey and 3 roast potatos, 2 mini pigs in blankets and some gravey which was just a let down but the worst part was the vegetarian was a little puff pastery with a bit of cheese on and brussel sprouts that was all that was given for dinner. and when i asked where my 7 month old dinner was they went into the kitchen and brought out one pig in blanket and a roast potato which i thought was a joke but no thats what they gave a 7month old for dinner. so i then had to ask my family to give a little bit off there meal for her which theres was small already by this time i was just fed up and dessert came and it was christmas pudding and vanilla custard which not everyone likes but there was no alternative and my 7 month old was not offered anything. so when leaving being given are bill and still being charged £60 per person and are drinks on top . i would not advise anyone to have christmas dinner there.

The restaurant at this local pub was recommended to us by a friend, so we gave it a try with high expectations. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Only one other table in the dining area was occupied, so there was no atmosphere, and we could not help having to suffer listening to the conversation pf our fellow diners the whole time (and know that they could overhear our every word). The rather short menu included little that we really fancied ordering, and certainly nothing that excited us. It took a long time for our order to be taken, and also a long time for the food to arrive. It wasn't actually bad or unpleasant, just mediocre and boring, though my partner's rare-to-medium steak was overcooked and tough. We have no intention of repeating the experience. To be fair, however, the person who recommended The Snooty Tavern to us does eat there regularly and thinks that it is one of the best local eating places. Despite being listed variously as 'Bedford' or 'St Neots', this pub is actually much closer to Great Staughton.

I've eaten at The Snooty on several occasions and the key for me is how well the standard is kept. Both in food and service. In fact the quality of preparation has risen over time and the quality of the ingredients is always maintained. Service too has been improved with several attentive personnel waiting on every table, without confusion. This makes for an excellent experience as all diners get their meals within seconds of each other and the supplementary orders are quickly taken. The setting is contemporary and clean. The kitchen is partially open to view and something I particularly enjoy as a diner. That said it was just a tad cool at the closest table, I assume from the back door being open. It didn't affect me but it was commented on by my fellow diners.I post the following purely as a "could have done better." Towards the end of the evening, although not particularly late, the private party that until then had not been noticeable spilled into the main restaurant. Music became very loud and it appeared that some of the staff joined in. That wouldn't have been so bad but I was trying to pay at the time and felt that it took second place to a bit of "Gangnam Style"! Hats off to the waitress who stepped in to finish the transaction while her colleague whizzed off for a dance!Don't forget that getting the money out of the guest is the most important bit. I'm sure a less amenable diner might have a little put out at having to wait pay.On the whole though a very enjoyable and tasty visit. I'll be returning.

I agree totally with the review laura365. We had been told how great the tavern was and decided to go for our anniversary. I booked a table for a tuesday and at no point were we informed that it was a limited menu. We arrived and were ignored so eventually got someone's attention the owner I think. We ordered drinks which were wrong then we were given a menu which was their limited menu when we enquired about a full menu we were then told it was limited on a tuesday if i had known this we would not have booked. We were then shown to our table, we ordered our food. Then a large party arrived there was clearly not enough room so we were then moved into the bar area not especially the romantic ambience we wanted. Our food arrived cooked well I admit but it was only steak and chips we asked for French mustard and got whole grain mustard. This just shows the staffs lack of attention. Overall a very disappointing evening on what should have been a romantic night. I feel their attention is focused on big parties and not couples looking for a quiet evening . Would not recommend

We have visited the Tavern on several occassions and everytime it has failed to deliver, the service is terrible, we booked early to ensure we could eat before going out for the evening and upon arrival were ignored by three members of the staff for sometime before being given dinner menus to read at the bar by an abrupt and impolite waitress.Instead of being led to our dinner table we were told to sit in the bar area, we expressed to the waitress we had plans and were in a hurry, her response was blaise and she left us sitting for twenty minutes before taking our order, we reiterated that we were in a hurry and would not be able to have starters as we were conscious of the time before our evening plans. She continued to be blaise and left us in the bar area for another 25 minutes before telling us the table we had booked an hour prior to arriving (and the place wasn't full) was finally ready, after waiting 45 minutes; we now had to carry our drinks, coats bags and scarves into the smoky dining room and await our meal. After specifically advising the waitress of our dietary requirements my meal came out containing the ingredients I had specifically checked were not in the meal I had ordered! she took it away but left my husbands meal cooling on the table (apparently she expected us to eat seperately!) An hour after arriving we decided to give up and leave without eating despite all the trouble we had experienced we were still charged for our drinks, a small price to guarantee that disatified clientele never return!!

we visited this restaurant for m birthday as it had been recommended in a local village mag. whilst we found the food quite good, we found the attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. The twenty-somethings behind the bar seemed more interested in chatting to the twenty somethings in front of the bar; we asked for a menu, took it off to study but despite the lack of clientelle in the bar, no one bothered to ask if we were ready to order. there were 6 people (eventually) in the restaurant so the staff weren't exactly rushed off their feet. It was nice to have a jug of iced water provided and the bread rolls were fresh and scrummy. The food was very nice, but mine was spoiled by the piece of silver foil nestling in it. We were not approached to be asked if everything was OK, and when someone who was presumably the proprieter turned up, she spent much time chatting to the 2 other tables but did not so much as make eye contact with us, who,not being regulars, were no doubt off her radar. A subsequent letter to said Village Mag brought a very brief letter of apology from proprieter who seemed intent on blaming her staff, not herself for their attitude. the offer of a free meal was not taken up as it was not our intention to get freebies, only to ask them to up their game.
