Great atmosphere and friendly staff great food with fantastic burgers with a great takeaway service on the just eat app

Told us we could walk from the airport. We arrived after dark and in the rain. There is no sidewalk on the road. We ended up getting fleeced by a taxi driver for going the two city blocks to the inn. Once there the place was closed up and had to wait for the owner to let us in. As we walked through the facility, we noticed that everything is old and unkempt. Owner put us in the furthest room up some stairs. There was no one else staying there. The room was unclean, the toilet was broken. There was only one towel for each of us. We didn’t take a shower because it looked dirty. The owner offered us breakfast but we were too turned off by the whole experience we didn’t trust we would get a hygienic meal. Don’t waste your money on this place and watch out for fleecing taxi drivers at the airport.

Stayed for one night, owners are lovely can't do enough to make you welcome, bedroom clean, bathroom tried needs replacing - needs a lot of money spending and alterations will take time. Breakfast no issues

Yes, this is clearly a budget hotel and rooms are a bit tired, but value for money absolutely cannot fault it! Great food. Great beer. Great night's sleep. Very friendly and helpful host. Would stay again.

We drove in to find a tatty old building wasn’t happy to go in but had paid a deposit and whole 3 days were owing so had to go in. We arrived to a friendly welcome. Lovely couple. Went to our room to mould round windows and in shower. Stains on pillows and duvet. Kettle all brown inside asked for it to be cleaned. Carpets needing a good clean. The whole place was so grubby. Entrance hall to our room was full of cobwebs and spiders. We stayed 2 days in the end so very expensive stay for a bad experience. Never like putting bad reviews but wouldn’t want anyone else wasting money. Never checked reviews. Sad really as such a nice couple.

Recently stayed here. From past reviews it said to not judge from the outside. Regret to say it’s no better inside. It’s run down & smells (musky & damp). The room was tiny, mould everywhere & cobwebs & bugs. The shower was in tatters & again black mould. The water didn’t drain away for ages in the shower cubical so basically standing in stagnant used water. Electrics were hit and miss, you went surfing everytime you sat on the toilet seat as it was loose. Towels weren’t even clean. Felt dirty staying here & wish we were in the financial position to just pay to go somewhere else after paying to stay here. Only redeeming qualify was breakfast actually tastes good although the wait was 45mins-1 hour in a dead restaurant. Would say for a the price it’s not bad but actually stayed in nicer places for less per night. Doubt they will stay open much longer. Been feeling ill since we stayed here. Couldn’t relax. Do not recommend for children either. Avoid

A budget hotel near Newquay/Airport. Its cheap, it has free parking, breakfast was delicious and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately, it is run down, needs a clean, and some tlc. So, if you just need a cheap bed for the night, then book a stay. If you're looking for a holiday, I'd give it a miss.

We stayed for 3 nights, Lauren and the team were friendly and welcoming. What can I say about the meals and deserts, amazing, out of this world, and plenty of it. The double room was cozy, shower is lacking water, beloved to be low pressure. No mattress protectors, but Lauren sorted this straight away. The place needs updating inside and out, with major money spent on it. Gardens front and back overgrown, and bits left out (fence panels/rubbish). Also the photos on website do not match what you actually see when you arrived and rooms. All in all stay was positive, but people need to be aware it’s cheap for a reason

Lauren and her team did an excellent job looking after us. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was very nice and welcoming and a good selection of drinks available. The room was very nice. Light and airy with a good sized room and bathroom and a luxury to have a bath in there too! So rare these days! The breakfast was excellent, hot and tasty and the cereal, plentiful. The whole place has seen better days and could do with a lot of money thrown at it but the whole experience was well worth it and that didn't put up off going back. Plenty of parking. Unreal food! A place not to be missed, the brisket platter is to die for. Plenty of food for the money and excellent quality. The best smokehouse food I’ve experienced. Already can’t wait to go back!

We were looking for an evening meal followed signs for this place. Walked into a dark dismal dirty looking reception area with some dirty looking sofas with blanket throws that I can only assume we're for dogs to use. Against my better judgement I did ask if they were serving food to which I got a surly "No" ...I couldn't get out of there quick enough.

An incredibly great value hotel and pub. The rooms are snug, cosy and warm. The landlord and landlady are really lovely. The pub is cheap and great food highly recommend it

Please don’t waste your time or your hard earned money here. Truly shocking!! Freezing cold, heating didn’t work. Had a tiny dimplex heater!! Completely insufficient. Horrendously rundown, I actually cannot believe that this place is allowed to open to the public. The only food available on a Sunday evening was from a food truck outside, which finished at 6pm. I felt uncomfortable here.

Honestly the best burger in Cornwall if your coming past and fancy a bite to eat pop in the chips was lovely as well I’ve never had food this good from a local pub

Food was amazing.......I am now several stones heavier. All perfectly cooked, lovely portion size (a bit big but the chef hates to think anyone would leave hungry), Sunday roast veggies included kale, peas, courgette, carrot, sweet potatoes, parsnip, roast pots, leeks in cheese sauce and red cabbage. All yummy. All I can add is......don't look at the outside, enjoy the warmth of the inside. Very close to Newquay Airport hence why we chose it. Sadly we never took photos.

The people are lovely and friendly but we have never stayed in such a filthy place as this. It is disgusting the bathroom all mouldy my husband could not even use the shower it was so dirty, the room smelt damp and the toilet bursh was so dirty it made me feel sick - had to put it out of sight. The whole place needs an upgrade it was shocking. The only posotive is the loation 2 mins walk a long a busy road to the airport. Breakfast not provided but we did get 10 pounds knockd off our bill. In this day and age this place needs updating or shutting down . Not good at all we would of told them on check out but you dont see anyone just leave your keys on a table hospitality at its worst. Such a shame x

This lovely little pub, is am must visit. We came yesterday and had a lovely lunch. The food was very tasty and clearly all cooked fresh to order. The service was quick and the barman was very friendly and helpful. Great pub and a must visit!!!!

Whilst the people were friendly and helpful, I really did not enjoy my stay here. I travel for work a lot and have stayed in some fairly basic hotels before but this just felt grubby. The bedding smelt musty. It was very dusty, the shower was awful and the walls paper thin. You can hear exactly what people are saying in the room next door so hardly slept. I couldn't wait to leave. Evening meal though was lovely, breakfast not so good.

The food was amazing we stopped off for a drink and evening meal. Typical local pub with some need for renovation but seriously can’t fault the staff or food best burgers we’ve ever had!

One of the best holidays I've ever had, incredibly friendly and helpful staff any queries where answered straight away and efficiently, the rooms are nice very simple and good for the price compared to many other overpriced stays in Cornwall, breakfast was amazing and the food was lovely, when spending the evening downstairs in the pub the vibes where lovely very friendly and homely everyone talks to eachother. It's not a far drive from fiatral beach about 20mins and less than 10 from Watergate, I would recommend this place to everyone me and my partner will definitely be returning 🙂

A little run down but good beer. Price reflects status. All I needed was a bed, shower and breakfast.

Well, it's not a 5-star hotel, so if you want to have a service like 5-star, go to 5-star..for me everything was more than very good. Rooms are clear, bathroom clear, towels fresh.However, my allergic fiancé gets an allergy, but I might have happened because it's a dog friendly place-we don't know. For additional star deserved their restaurant! Burgers were amazing!

Stayed two nights and it cost £180 which wasn’t weren’t the money. Our room was at the front so was noisy from traffic and customers having drinks underneath our bedroom window. The bedroom was basic with a very small tv and the bathroom was not very good. The shower was slow and took a while to adjust the temperature to get it right because it came on to hot all the time. The nets on the window had mould on, light above the sink didn’t work, the toilet seat was loose. We didn’t get our room cleaned at all so no fresh towels/shampoo/coffee/ tea or milk and had to ask for more. The breakfast finished at 9.30 so felt rushed to get up early to get it. Other hotels serve until 10. Our evening meal was nice but it was served on a chopping board which was ridiculous as some of my food was falling on the table. Stupid idea to serve it that way, what’s wrong with a plate. Had to vacate the room by 10 where other hotels it’s 11. Wouldn’t go back again and far to expensive when it’s not worth it.

The food in 10/10, there was 10 of us and we all totally enjoys our meals. The burgers & the Mac n cheese r something else! The flavour and quality is amazing. When I arrived was I a little worried about what the food was going be like? Yes I was but it was too late and the lady who was running the show was lovely so there was no way we could just leave! So glad we didn’t as the food was excellent and we would visits again. Thank you.

Place was really clean. Staff friendly. Burgers were so delicious, one of best I had. Slaw took me back to my childhood. After closing hours was quiet.

Absolutely brilliant. Room was very clean. Food was excellent/delicious. Staff were very nice and lovely. Definitely can recommend this place for stay to anyone who looking for low budget stay. And massive plus is they are dog friendly 🤟 no complain at all. I just love it and definitely this will be my first choice if Ill go back for holiday there.

Probably the best meals we had on our recent stay in the area. Smokey Pit food at its best. All though other meals are available.

We were traveling to Cornwall for a wedding and booked this accommodation as it was the closest with availability. We arrived fairly late after a day travelling with the idea of getting our dinner where we were staying and get an early night ready for the big day. When we arrived we had to walk through the pub and check in was at the bar we were greeted by two friendly women who were more than helpful showing us to our room. Walking through the pub to the rooms everything was very tired looking, unfinished, there was even a musty, smokey smell that lingered. When we got to our room we were a little disgusted by the state of it, there was dust, surfaces still had cup marks on , mould on the ceilings. Everything could have done with a good clean and freshen up. We decided we would like put up with as we only needed to be there two nights and given the state of the accommodation we decided we would eat somewhere else that evening. After a day on the beach we decided to have a quick shower and head off for dinner…. My husband turned on the shower and the water was scolding hot, and no mater what we tried the temperature wasn't adjustable. It is a good job we hadn't sent out 6 year old to the shower first. We went downstairs without showers to leave for tea and asked to speak with someone regarding the issue to be told she was out on delivery, as we left the building a man followed us out and said he would have a look into it whilst we were out. Whilst out we got a call to say that the shower in our room couldn’t be fixed so we would have to use the facilities at the other end of the long hallway to get washed and ready for the wedding the following day, which wasn’t ideal walking up through the hallway in a towel with fear of crossing paths with another guest. We were told that the plumber was coming to look at the shower the day of the wedding and asked if it would be ok to go in when we had left for the day which we agreed to and went to bed. We never got to sleep til well after 1am as you can hear everything going on in the pub downstairs and at kicking out time they hung around outside talking loudly. Next day we were awoken at 7am by doors slamming so we decided to get up and get breakfast over which was actually pretty pleasant. We got ready for the wedding and left just after 12pm when we arrived back at 00.40am that evening we found the door to our room had been left open and unlocked probably since the plumber can that day so anyone could have walked in and snooped through our belongings. All in all we would never stay at this place again, it needs ripping out and starting again, it feels like a local pub and that no sprucing up has taken place for a VERY long time. I would also sack the cleaner because quite frankly the rooms are disgusting , if you stay make sure you pack some wipes to have a jolly good clean down.

Really nice people, the place was obviously loved in the past but has been let go and certainlyneeds the garden cleaning up, the food looked very promising but really wasn't the best and not great portions apart from the chips which were good. Such a shame for such an iconic destination.

We upgraded our Buyagift voucher for a stay here with our two dogs. The Smugglers Inn perfectly located to explore the surrounding area with some absolutely stunning beaches a short distance away, and dog friendly which is a big plus for us! Our room was clean and comfortable with a view of the garden, and we could see the sunset from our window which was lovely! The shower has very low pressure, which is explained and can’t be helped, but was nice and hot. We ate dinner here once and both chose a burger which was absolutely delicious, possibly the best I have eaten, definitely their speciality! The basic cooked breakfast provided was a nice touch and kept us going for a busy day exploring. The Smugglers Inn was a great base to explore the beautiful Cornish coast and we would definitely stay again, Thank you Jack and Lauren!

I had the piggy dirtbag burger and oh my god it was epic and one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Two smashed patties topped with pulled pork. Well worth the money and fed two of us.

Outrageous Statement Alert! Best Sunday roast I've ever had in my life.

I stayed here for ONE NIGHT in Feb 2023 on my way back to Scotland. When the taxi driver dropped me off around 1430 I asked him to hang around for a few minutes to make sure I could get in. I rang the door chime but no answer. I rang the Hotel's phone, again no answer. The taxi driver noticed a sign by the roadside stating the hotel was open from 3 pm to 10 pm. Around 3 pm a car drew up and the lady let me in. I noticed a motorbike in the front room by the entrance door which seemed a bit strange, My room was No 2 looking out to the front of the hotel. The central heating wasn't working but the hotel had plugged in a Dimplex-style electric heater which, if the weather had been really cold would not have been sufficient. The light above the room mirror had only one working bulb and the small TV on the wall was unserviceable. Having said that Jack did provide a larger stand-alone TV. The bathroom was a bit drab and not very inviting with very poor light. The mixer shower didn't work right either, you either had the water coming out fairly hot or cold. The shaver socket light was also not working The bed was comfy enough and there was hotel wifi available FOC. The hotel bar was ok, with a pool table positioned far too close to the bar seating. Alcohol prices were good when you compare them with some other places. I had an 8oz sirloin steak + very skinny chips, tasted lovely though so 10/10 to Jack the chef for that In conclusion, the hotel looks tired and would greatly benefit from a major workover, however, I have stayed in much worse places in my time. Jan the barmaid was lovely and very helpful so I would give her a 12/10 for her overall personability. Would I stay here again, probably not, but if you want a cheapish night stay very close to Newquay Airport then this is the place

Stayed 2 nights, owners were welcoming and had a fab night in the pub with them and the locals. Breakfast was included and was lovely. Ordered food off the menu in the evening which was also so lush! Room was clean and the bed was really comfy!

Visited a few weeks ago with friends. Food was absolutely amazing. Had the mussles, which were unbelievable!! It's a must. Sat by the fire too. Can't wait to get back again this weekend for my son's birthday. The pub is simply stunning. Very cozy and lots of character, which I love !!

We booked this through buyagift.com who claimed it as a luxury stay. It could not have been further from the truth! We were given a room that was cold (radiator did not work) paint coming of the walls, bath panel falling off and rotting, tiles missing in the bathroom, no form of heating in the bathroom and a mattress that had a big dip in one side and gave a poor nights sleep. We ended up driving home through the night just to get home to a comfortable bed! I cannot comment on the Inn itself as we did not eat or drink there. Shall not be returning!

Owner very nice and helpful our room was nice very clean. Very good breakfast good pub to come back to in the evening for a drink before bed. They do evening meals but we didn’t try those. The place looks a little tired in places but the owners are new and you can tell the improvements they are making. It’s very good value for the area we will stay here again.

Called at The Smugglers Inn because there isn't much in the way of alternatives in this area. We shan't be calling again. What we wanted was a quiet table and good food in pleasant surroundings. What we got was a poorly furnished, grubby room with lots of shouting between "regulars" and staff and a menu on which chips predominated. To us, the place had the ambience of an airport eatery or a motorway service station. And when you see "Smugglers" on the inn sign, you expect fishing nets, old chests and barrels, perhaps a ship's compass and maybe even a stuffed parrot squawking 'Pieces of Eight', don't you? What you get (assuming you can get one of the few parking spaces) are two old motorbikes inside the entrance. I could be wrong, but I don't recall Long John Silver having one of those, back in the day. Yes, the food was OK, despite the chips, and the price was too ... but the rest, no. So shipmates, next time I'm passing you can tell it's me because I'll be wearing two eye patches so I'm not tempted to go in again.

Ideal base to see what Cornwall has to offer. We stayed after a week in crantock. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Basic rooms with tv, hairdryer, en-suite. Breakfast good and included in price. Everyone friendly. A couple of tweaks and this would be very good.

Myself and my dad, visited late July for 5 days. Owner’s and Staff made us warm welcome from booking in on the first day. Would bend over backwards to help you with any problems. Rooms, basic but clean and tidy. Food, was all good! Fish and Chips was excellent! Absolutely lovey, amazing batter homemade and homemade tarter sauce! Maybe not a 5* B&B but you certainly get 5*+ treatment! Would definitely recommend and we will be returning next years hopefully ! Finally, you will be thinking you would here a lot of planes through the night as the airport 1 minute drive from the B&B but you don’t will get a good night sleep as it’s not a busy airport!

A quiet restaurant / hotel serving superb food.Spotlessly clean, fast service, very well priced and friendly but professional staff.Good parking, easy to book a table we went twice during the week we were in the area, (that is unusual for us - we like to try different places).It is a gem of a place.

Overall ok but pub is very tired, toilets were an absolute dump. Some of the staff were ok but totally run off their feet due to other waiting staff going missing for large periods of time (i.e. the waitress supposedly looking after those diners in the next room kept disappearing outside with her boyfriend (and his friends/family?) leaving the diners in limbo. Very frustrating and needs managing better. On the whole we enjoyed the food and the price was reasonable hence the 3 stars

We didn’t expect such wonderful meals from this place but were blown away by the huge portions, fresh ingredients and variety of options. The menu is quite unassuming but everything looked homemade - the coleslaw and salads looked especially fresh and were very tasty. My family were particularly impressed with the burgers which are more like giant ciabatta sandwiches, the chicken was juicy and the breadcrumb coating was crispy, and the cheeseburger was well cooked too. The staff on shift (I think one of the owners and a waitress) were lovely, attentive and couldn’t have been more helpful when catering to gluten/dairy free needs. The owner of the building needs to invest in this pub! We sat in the back conservatory which was nice and quiet, much brighter than the main pub and would be good for families/couples. We were pleasantly surprised with the food and service and would definitely recommend this to anyone who was skeptical having seen the outside.

On holiday just out off lockdown and needed a place to eat and had seen this place. On arrival we had a nice friendly welcome from all the staff.Service was crisp efficient and friendly. Food was all freshly prepared, in our opinion the best burgers and fish cakes we’ve had in years, homely decor nothing fancy but the food did the talking. Highly recommended if staying in St Mawgan or passing.

Stayed here for one night. The hotel is just a 3 minute walk along the road from the airport. I arrived quite late on a Sunday night and the staff were so friendly. The place is very dated and it was very quiet but I can imagine that it must have a great atmosphere in the spacious bar area when it is busier. My room was perfectly adequate and the bed was really comfortable. There was tae/coffee making facilities in the room and a wall mounted TV. My room rate included breakfast but as my flight was rather early I did not manage the time to sample the menu, although a few other guests were tucking in handsomely.Well done to all the great staff.

My husband, our dog and I stayed at the Smugglers Inn for 3 nights when visiting Cornwall recently. On first impressions you would consider the Inn a little tired in places, however, we were welcomed by friendly and accommodating hosts, a well equipped room with comfortable bed, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and shower room and toiletries. The pub itself was warm and friendly serving restaurant quality food. We had the Chicken burgers, Asian Noodles, and Fish meal during our stay all of which were delicious! The pub also has a garden area and in better weather would be a lovely place to sit and enjoy and few drinks and there is plenty of parking. Every morning we were provided a cooked English breakfast including tea, coffee, juices, cereals, toast and jams. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts and having the dog didn’t prohibit us from using the facilities at all. A great little find just outside of Newquay, and the beautiful Watergate Bay and St Mawgan beaches are a 5 minute drive away. Great stay, thank you Smugglers!

Nice pub very friendly staff only went for a drink then seen food being brought out decided to have cheese burger and chips. Absolutely lovely would recommend. Dog freindly and tables well spaced out for social distancing will definitely return to this pub .
