The Smoke Haus in Cardiff

Absolutely stunning, came with my friends for food before watching Paul Smith in the Utilita Arena. Ordered the heartattack burger, came with fries and also ordered the chicken loaded fries, was absolutely amazing. I would come here again, however it doesn't state that the burger comes with fries on the menu until you order as you can upgrade your fries to the loaded. Pictures don't do it's justice. The atmosphere was great, music was a little to loud as couldn't hear conversations we were having in our group but otherwise good. Service from the staff was fab, lovely people. Thankyou 😄

My experience was nice, the service was great and the atmosphere was great. The only downside was that it was a Wednesday and there was a deal on chicken wings, but the taste wasn't great. Otherwise, everything else was okay.

Great tasting food, was pretty quiet on a Sunday evening, but the service was first class & the brisket was really tasty. Recommend! 👍🏻

Great selection American style meats , the place looks fab , good service. I do prefer hickorys though.

I don’t want to speak for everyone because obviously everyone has their own preferences, however I feel like the food here isn’t really worth how much it actually is. We ordered a big platter to share between us but it was a bit disappointing. The ribs and brisket were very tasty to start but as you kept eating them there seemed to be a massive lack of flavour, along with a sense of coldness. Not to mention the “cheese sauce” you get served with the fries. We were so upset about it, it was served as some kind of orange liquid rather than an actual cheese, and it honestly tasted to tangy that we had to waste the fries. However, moving on to the positives, the service here is absolutely amazing and I am in no way discrediting the hard work from the staff in any way as I have nothing to complain about them. And, I want to point out that the atmosphere of this place is amazing!! I didn’t hear one bad song played the entire time and the decorations they had up were just perfect! Also, I found the dessert was very satisfactory too, just wish the main could’ve followed up.

Food wasn't piping hot so went cold very quickly, the ribs I had were very dry and burnt, pulled pork didn't have alot of flavour and again was dry compared to pulled pork iv had at other places, the wings were the only thing that seemed fresh. W

We used to have one in Swansea which we loved so decided to try the Cardiff one. The 'server- behind the bar gentleman' actively scoffed at us when we ordered a pitcher of water and muttered something under his breath. When he returned we asked if ordering water was an issue (bearing in mind the bill would have been in excess of £50 on food). The server would not tell us what he said underhandedly and told us 'not to be offended'. This was at the point in which we decided to leave due the complete and utter disrespect. Restaurant was dead and I'm not surprised if this is the treatment customers get.

El 'servidor - detrás de la barra caballero' activamente se burló de nosotros cuando pedimos una jarra de agua y murmuró algo bajo su aliento. Cuando regresó le preguntamos si pedir agua era un problema (teniendo en cuenta que la factura habría sido superior a £ 50 en alimentos). El servidor no quiso decirnos lo que dijo con franqueza y nos dijo "no ofendernos". Fue en ese momento cuando decidimos marcharnos debido a la completa y absoluta falta de respeto. El restaurante estaba muerto y no me sorprende si este es el trato que reciben los clientes.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant! Partner and I have been on a bit of a mission to find the best burgers in Cardiff, and for us, this place wins by a mile. They never disappoint, even when busy. Staff are friendly, service is great, the place has a great vibe, and the food is absolutely fantastic. Really appreciate that they have good toilets, that are kept really clean too! Even when busy, the place doesn't feel cramped and you can still have a conversation, so great for team meals too. Definitely recommend giving their Hog Father burger a try! Its brilliant. But then their large sharing platter is fantastic value and packed with delicious meat and sides too! I really appreciate that their fries and slaw are just delicious as well! Whenever there's a new burger place to try now, we usually end up not going just because we dont think it can beat this place and we will end up regretting not going here! Thanks Smoke Haus, you are our go to now!

Wing Wednesday good value if you can eat

Welcomed by a lovely hostess, quickly had order taken. We ordered two soft drinks, the mixed grill to share between two and some onion rings. Drinks arrived quickly, followed up by the food soon after. Mixed grill appeared nice, however brisket was stone cold, wings were very small, frozen chips and the burger patties were over cooked. The onion rings were frozen, this frankly pi$$ed me off, how lazy in a smoke house to not have done in house onion rings. We certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Waitress that dealt with us was great tho.

Think I've been here 3 times ever. First time the food was quite nice, 2nd time was pretty poor, 3rd time was horrendous. Everything tasted bad, especially the ribs. Shame because there are hardly any proper BBQ restaurants anywhere.

Probably the best restaurant BBQ food that I’ve had outside of Texas. Service was friendly and speedy. My only very minor gripe was the volume of the sports on TV, but I get that I was in Cardiff and it was rugby. 🙂

The atmosphere is great, very American styled with rock music in the background. The staff were friendly, always asking if everyone was satisfied. The food however. I ordered the classic burger for 15.95, but it was not worth it. The beef had bits of gristle, the bun was dry and overall bland. Better eat at McDonald's: same quality, but cheaper. The milkshake was nice, but 1/3 of it was just whipped cream, so it just vanished quickly.

Visited on the 7th and 9th of February. Had something different each time and all of it was fabulous only down point was the lack of choice of non alcoholic beer/ ciders

Ordered the half rack of ribs. It was dry and overcooked. Lacked flavour. Service was good and atmosphere is lacking. There's not much going on. The burnt ends bbq was okay.

I found the food disappointing, given the good reputation my friend relayed. A bit dark and table+menu felt a bit greasy. The burger itself was quite good and could be great, but the cheese sauce really let it down

We have been eating here regularly but once I saw the hygiene ratings I have change my mind.. Could you please explain why somewhere like Smoke Haus in Cardiff city centre has 2 hygiene rating? I also read from recent reviews that someone has salmonella from the Chicken Wings. I think we deserve an explanation about it, maybe you improved since then, maybe we don't know much about it. If that's the case I can always change my review, I just feel concerned..

Really good spareribs. Was scared that the ‘half ribs’ would be a small portion but luckily it’s more than enough and loved the coleslaw next to it! ✨

Came last night as a single diner away in business and have to say was rather disappointing, seated quickly with drinks done quickly as well, tried to order plate b with a rather abupt “we’ve got no brisket” and at 7pm that’s rather poor, I ordered chicken tenders which were rather dry and certainly not “tender” almost guarantee they were frozen on a mash of lettuce diced tomato and spring onion with a mountain of Franks hot sauce and a rather sweet buttermilk style dressing, they were hot which was a plus but for £9.95 not good value for money. So I ended up ordering an”Ultimate cheeseburger” and this was really disappointing, had this rather horrible cheese sauce on top of the bun making it pretty much impossible to eat with you hands, the beef patties couldn’t have been more than 3 ounces each and were lost inside the bun, fries were hot and coleslaw was rather tasteless, no checkback on main course and for £41 wasn’t the best value for money at all, if I hadn’t have already had a drink I would have gone elsewhere with the lack of brisket, should really have been told at the door, overall rather disappointing

Used to love coming here but they’ve changed the menu, got rid of their best items the hotdogs and the sandwiches, and they’ve changed the recipe for the nacho cheese. Music is way too loud now aswel and the lights are even dimmer! Service from the gentlemen were great though. Would 100% come back again if they bring back all the old items!

Went on a monday about 5pm....very quiet..welcomed by lovely girl i think chloe?? Orederd food ..didnt take long to arrive ..drinks were reasonably priced...food was banging ! Amazing ! .deffoget yr money worth and quality was fab! Staff were amazing.friendly.efficent attentive ..! I gave dessert a miss but my son etc had some.lookd amazing they said it tasted fab! But we all agreed no dezsert worth 9.50!?? Over priced. Miller amd carter amd most places are 7.50.sp deducted a point for that as size quite small and jzt well overpriced! However great staff great service great food will deffo return..thanks guy yu do a great job!

Esperé un rato para estar sentado todo lo que puedo decir es que de principio a fin el servicio fue muy lento un poco impactado ya que ni siquiera estaba lleno. Suficiente personal en tal vez necesita una sesión de vinculación de equipo con la gerencia, ya que era un cliente muy desarticulado es clave para ser honesto. El personal debe saber que se dan propinas cuando el servicio es bueno. La comida era buena, aunque solo una primera experiencia decepcionante que necesita mejorar.

Visited this restaurant tonight & disappointed. The ribs were hardly tender & we’ve cooked Asda ones at home which tasted better. The coleslaw seemed to be Asda’s cheapest too. Certainly not worth the £20 price. My partner had pulled pork nachos which were tasty.

Haven’t added photos as I was too busy enjoying the flavour and excellent customer service. Not only did the Wednesday unlimited wings meet our expectations but the customer service alone was worth going again. We never felt we were annoying staff, they were intentive and wanted to ensure we had everything we needed. The wings were amazing, I recommend trying the Honey and mustard wings, I didn’t expect to like them but they were amazing. Friendly atmosphere and good food! Will come again 👍🏻

Nice bbq flavour on the burger. Much better than i expected. Also had nachos, which were fine too. Somehow we were charged an extra £60. It took a while, but they did sort it out in a pleasant manor, though we had to take cash, wish I'd forgotten is such a pita these days 😅 We were in early on a Saturday evening, so it was quite quiet. I assume it was rammed later.

Directamente, tuve un completo fallo de memoria. Pensé que era una cadena en la que había estado en Chester. Resultó que estaba equivocado. Había estado en Hickory’s Smoke House en Chester y tenía fabulosas costillas de cerdo ahumadas de 8 horas que eran suculentas y donde la carne simplemente se cayó del hueso. Tan llenos de expectación que fuimos al SmokeHaus conmigo esperando lo mismo. Empezamos con las alitas de pollo picante que eran muy buenos, así que tuvimos un gran comienzo. Mi cerveza Goose IPA fue excelente también. Mi esposa tenía el medio estante y yo tenía el estante lleno, y cuando llegó no lo reconocí. Era negro con una corteza dura, y el de mi esposa no estaba lo suficientemente caliente así que lo envió de vuelta. Me arropé en la mía y la carne estaba bien, pero el humo no había penetrado en absoluto, y solo había una gruesa costra negra y seca en el exterior. Estaba seco y la carne no tenía un gran sabor a humo en absoluto. No podía entender por qué era tan diferente a lo que recordaba. Realmente no fue muy bueno. Y £ 25 por un rack completo y £ 16 por un medio rack, esto no era barato. La camarera preguntó si estaba bien, así que dijimos que estábamos decepcionados y por qué. Confieso que estaba declarando falsamente que su restaurante “Chester” era mucho mejor, sin darme cuenta de que era de Hickory. Sin embargo la camarera fue de primera clase en aceptar nuestra opinión y llamó al gerente que vino y habló con nosotros. El gerente era excepcionalmente comprensivo y amable y realmente quería entender cuál era el problema. Ella escuchó y se disculpó y aceptó lo que dijimos. Así que en términos de personal no puedo culparlos, estaban atentos y deseosos de hacer las cosas bien. El gerente hizo un reembolso muy generoso para nosotros. Así que el servicio al cliente era de primera clase. Todo lo que puedo decir es que deben ponerse en contacto con Hickory’s Smoke House en Chester y averiguar cómo hacen sus costillas porque son excelentes. Came here the night before the Cardiff ½marathon and for my birthday treat fantastic food and service

***Edit 08/10/24*** Visited for our son's birthday (again 😁). Very quiet but then again it was Tuesday and we wouldn't expect it to be rammed. Food delicious as always, the fries and blue cheese dip are addictive! Our son was disappointed the Donut Burger wasn't on the menu but after asking the table staff, they went out of their way to make one for him despite it not being officially available. Obviously they had been eavesdropping and realised it was his birthday and brought out a free dessert at the end - they didn't have to do either of these things but it's small touches like this which make the journey worth it 🙌 Never had a bad meal here and service is always friendly and quick. I tried the Ultimate Cheeseburger this time and was struggling a bit towards the end 😂 really tasty though and can't grumble with portion size. The buffalo chicken tenders are also really delicious and very moreish. For those wondering, there is no service charge here. If paying by card, the machine has (non compulsory) options to add a tip in 10% increments if you wish. We're a bit old fashioned and preferred to leave a cash tip for the table staff but at least the option is there. Food was delicious, a bit sceptical after seeing some reviews but all our meals were hot and very tasty. Beef brisket was absolutely wicked! Tender and really tasty. Southern Comfort burger was a bit of a handful but very nice indeed. Chips could do with more seasoning IMO but they were nice all the same. We were served by Sophie (I think that was her name) who was great. Will definitely come again to try other stuff on the menu. Came here Saturday with my partner. We arrived at about 4 pm and were seated straight away. Quite a few people there at this time but not rammed. Service was fast with drinks being served to us very quickly. We ordered plate a and plate b. I had plate b which was £40. Having been here a few times over the years and it being on point, I have to say on this occasion I was slightly disappointed. The brisket was a bit dry. The ribs were well smoked and had nice flavour but ribs on the small end of the rack were very hard. The beans were absolutely banging fairplay. The coleslaw was fresh and creamy but lacked any real flavour to be honest. There wings and pulled pork were really nice. For the price and considering it's a smoke house I expected the plate to be on point so was a bit of a lot down. Also I noticed the burger menu average price was £20!! That's very steep for burger and Fries in my opinion. Overall the experience this time was just OK. Staff were very nice and the service was great.

Estábamos sentados rápidamente y el personal de camareros era feliz y educado. Pedimos una hamburguesa y un estante lleno de costillas de espalda de bebé. La comida se entregó rápidamente, pero las costillas no eran costillas de espalda de bebé. Eran gruesos y duros. Tuvimos que pedir un cuchillo de carne ya que el cuchillo que nos dieron no cortaría la carne. Solo pudimos comer algunas de las costillas del centro de la rejilla, ya que cada extremo de la rejilla estaba seco y duro. Explicamos esto cuando nos preguntaron si todo estaba bien, pero el personal de camareros no sabía lo que las costillas traseras del bebé deberían ser - estábamos muy decepcionados con la comida, ya que una comida no era comestible.

On my own felt quite ignored most of the time. The food was not cheap and tasted like any other chain. It was tasty enough but at that price I’d expect much better. The only good thing was no service charge - so at least it was all up front.

While the overall experience wasn’t terrible, the food was a huge letdown. For the high prices, I expected much more, but everything we ordered was bland and lacked flavor. We tried the pulled pork nachos, a full rack of ribs, and Plate A. Unfortunately, none of the meats were seasoned, the fries didn’t even have salt, and the coleslaw tasted like soggy vegetables. It would’ve been disappointing regardless, but considering the cost, it just doesn’t seem worth it to dine here.

Big burgers, decent portions, fantastic service and attention from the staff. My wife uses a wheelchair and this was the first restaurant who saw us coming in and rushed to open the doors and make everything as easy as possible. Would wholeheartedly recommend for anyone wanting the "American" barbecue experience!

Was ill three days,paid ridiculous amount for low quality food the waitress (Rachael) was rude sly and not attractive to the eye,the disabled toilet did not have a lock on the door when I complained she went don't care about disabled customers and then banned me

Avoid this place. Went last week, the food was so dry, pulled pork ordered along with brisket, none had any sauce. Brisket normally comes juicy, the whole meal looked and tasted like packet shop bought food. Food presented like a school dinner, like it was slapped onto the plate. Even the chips tasted off. My partner got meat stuck in his throat, it was scary, he almost choked, the waitress didn’t question when I asked for the bill why 80% of the food was untouched. Awful service . Wouldn’t feed to the dog !

By far my favourite restaurant in Cardiff!!! Smoke House BBQ food from stacked burgers to packed plates bursting with flavour. There is lots of options to suit your taste and appetite. The service is fun and fast with a buzzing atmosphere and great choice of music. Well worth a visit when in Cardiff. Can’t wait to be there again, my next trip is already booked.

Was looking for a decent BBQ place in Cardiff since the smoke house in Barry closed, and the one in Canton. Had brisket and pulled pork. Really disappointing, the brisket was like a poorly cooked roast beef, no bbq flavour. Also lots of flies, we were sat near the door but they were everywhere. Won’t be visiting again

We Thoroughly enjoyed our meal so much on Friday night that we returned on Saturday aswell Excellent choice on the menu and the size was generous. We took some away in a box for later. Service was fast and attentive and prices were reasonable We had a great time

Was excited to get pulled pork and beef brisket but it wasn't the best. My daughter said my home made brisket is better so....bit disappointing. Service was friendly enough but had to ask twice for mayo before it arrived. It's a big place so I understand servers have a large area to cover but we were there for lunch and it wasn't busy so I think it could have been better. Glad I tried it. The pulled pork was pretty good and the chips were good too. Probably won't go back though.

Honestly used to love this place but every time we go there the menu has gotten increasingly small and limited with all our favourites having been removed. Service is great but since the food has gone down hill we will be looking for another regular group eating place.

Really fatty meats! Paid for the share meal that was £50+ and wasted over half off the plate due to fatty meats and not cooked how a smoke house should be cooking there meats. Was a very dirty meal to other smoke houses we have been too! In the plus side it was my birthday and they gave a free cake with a candle for a treat. Chips and chilli was lovely. On paying they ask for a tip with amounts to pick from a % of the total bill…lowest was £9.50+ if I remember right…and they stood there waiting for you to click which one to pay which was uncomfortable.

We came to your restaurant this afternoon to celebrate our friend 50 birthday. Our friend was nearly two ours late as Cardiff was grid locked. Your staff were wonderful and not phased at all and were very obliging. The food was good too. Will definitely come back. Thank you team for making this celebration special

Popped in before going to see Avril Lavigne in the Castle 👌🏻 I had the brisket and chicken wings. The wings were pink when I cracked them open and I did speak to the server, who explained they're smoked, so they would be pink. I said I wasn't going to eat them and he sorted me with some more brisket. I've since realised the smoking process does indeed mean the joints in the wings will be a pink hue, just as the pink ring you get in smoked meats. He was right and I was wrong. Will be back 👌🏻 (just one meh note, my partner needed GF bread. They had some, but I think it was a day or two old and quite hard, otherwise all good )

Really enjoyed this place! I had the half rack of ribs and it was just so tasty! Staff super friendly, really glad we stumbled across this place while on a short break in Cardiff
