The Smithfield in Luton

The gorgeous looking avocados on toast saved the experience at Smithfield. Cosy looking shelves with warm colours. The tables next to us had table service but we we had to go to the bar to order. Some waiters clearly avoiding eye contact. Very noisy. Would have been a 3 if it was not for the food.

My flight was delayed so I ended up spending a considerable amount of time at Smithfield Luton Airport. Leonel provided me with great service. He was attentive and didn’t let me wait for anything. He moved me to a closed section of the restaurant to accommodate me when I needed to use a charger.

I’m a regular here and normally it’s very busy . This evening on Paddy’s day the staff have time to talk ! Leonel helped me get the best seat with power as I’m on crutches and couldn’t do enough ! Whst a helpful chap ! My 4 stars for the food reflects that I’m not keen on salt. All chips are salty and I wish I had the choice of having salt on my food or not . Otherwise, the Smithfield is the only place with an atmosphere in Luton Airport for me !

Leonel who served was very nice, polite and professional. Excellent service. Considering that this is a small menu, the quality of the burger should be there. Instead, the patty was very dry and hard. Only way to eat it was with lots of sauces.

The price of a green salad is 13.5£ (one person portion), in the menu is written “cesar salad” but it might be cleopatra not cesar, no bacon, no chicken, only green salad& grilled bread! If you don’t pay the tip when you make the pre order & pay before getting the food, you’ll get back a very unpolite behavior from the waiter!

What a horrific filthy place lacking of everything music, clean tables, miserable staff, everything is dirty, sticky, worst place

The food was very good, with the vegetables being surprisingly well cooked (cooked just right) for airport food. Leonel was very helpful and personable, as was the young man at the entrance handing out the menus.

Not much speed for an airport restaurant. Forced to ask for our glasses of water lots of times. There were 3 of us, only 2 dishes arrived, and the 3rd: never! We left because we couldn't wait any longer. The organization really needs to be reviewed

I have ordered scramble on toast and over 9 pound, when the food arrived it was literally small portion of around 2 eggs and simple dry toast! There was no butter nothing at all. Paying nearly 10 pound for that was ridiculous and felt like I’m being robbed. Definitely last time coming here.

We have been here many times before when we ordered at the bar. Now there is table service which worked well for us and the gentleman who served us was given a well deserved tip. Order no 9829

We've jumped in for a dinner and a few pints. The waiter Leonel was attentive and food was good.

So I've ordered my food scanning the barcode, the money leaves my bank having a statement saying I've paid, but their app says the payment failed !!!! A young so called manager in his 20's cones and says that if the app doesn't say the've got paid, he doesn't care !!!! Even after I showed him my bank app clearly showing that the transaction was made !!!! Rude and continuously interrupting, he eventually told me to get out of the establishment!!!! Unbelievable!!!!

Catarina was exceptional, she even kept an eye on our gate and told us it was open. If only all hospitality staff were like her!

Staff were attentive and friendly. The menu clearly identified which dishes were gluten free and which could be adapted. Staff had good knowledge of allergens which left us feeling confident. Thank you to Leonel for looking after us.

Allergies were not treated respectfully, very long wait for food and generally felt unwelcome due to dietary requirements.

The food wasnt as good compared to how much it costs as it comes with minimal portions for a £17 meal. The waitress was disrespectful- their facial expressions showed she didnt care and doesnt want to be here- besides that the atmosphere was alright as a lot of people knew each other and were socialising. However i would not recommend especially not for breakfast!

They won't bother to toast or even heat up the sandwich they charged you almost £9 for, but they'll make sure to put half a tree in your drink as a garnish.

Honestly there's no much good things to say about our meal here. We ordered a fish&chips, bacon burger, nachos and shrimps. The chips in my meal were not fresh, only mildly warm. The fish, well it was falling apart and eating it would've been easier with a spoon. My friends nachos with guacamole were also not good, the nachos were flavourless and the guacamole was unseasoned beyond unnecessary amount of mint in it, really it felt like I was eating an avocado with mint on top. The shrimps were okay I guess, well you couldn't really taste the shrimp because the batter killed the flavour of the shrimps. The aioli sauce that came with the shrimps was just mayonnaise with a lot of vinegar.The burger was hm, just a burger, pretty unimpressive as my friend said. In the end we left pretty unsatisfied, especially considering the prices here. 18.50 for a fish and chips with lukewarm fries and a fish that's falling apart. Overall a disappointment. Edit: I forgot to mention how dirty the glasses for our drinks were, we got two long glasses for our soft drinks, both of them were not exactly clear and had some chunks of something inside them. I have no idea how the waiter nor the Bartender noticed that. The third glass was already filled with coke so we didn't know if it was equally dirty or not.

Ordered a veg toastie with fries and it arrive quite quick, the fries weren’t warm and had the ‘I’ve been made ages ago’ and the mushroom inside the toastie was stone cold so not the best. Would I recommend defs not this but the staff are friendly and helpful.

Absolutely atrocious! I would give 0 stars if I could. The food was so bad my belly was touching my back, the halloumi fries were SO oily and plain, and the sticky toffee was beyond nasty. It tasted like dry crumbs, I felt dehydrated after. Not to mention how rude 2 staff members were, the first older bald man was so rude and had unnecessary attitude, he was ignoring us and charged me for the wrong juice, so made me pay more than I was supposed to, I specifically said the regular orange juice and he charged me with the fresh orange juice. When I asked him about this, he said ‘well how am I supposed to know what juice you mean?’ Even though I already said, doesn’t he work there? How can your staff member not know what you serve?! Next another staff member had serious attitude problems, moving us around even though the seating was sorted, shrugging her shoulders and giving us dirty looks, completely unprofessional and off putting. I wanted to leave 5 minutes after getting there! What does that tell you about how your staff behave? Even when paying for the food, the older man had attitude. I understand it was busy and there was a lot to do but there isn’t an excuse for treating people the way that they did for no reason. They were treating other people around us fine so it feels more like a racial problem with us. I can’t even give justice to tell you how horrible my experience was and this place was, I pray for anyone who is unfortunate enough to come here and experience what I did.

I went in being told it was a 35 minute wait for food. Well it was actually almost a 35 minute wait to get served, waiters stood talking together, some asking if you wanted service and then disappearing and generally a lack of any direction or management. The food was worse than my late grans Sunday dinners. Terrible, DO NOT CHOOSE A SANDWICH BREAKFAST OPTION. Literally two bits of scrappy bread and a sausage and slice of bacon, it was pathetic. Jason Statham and John Wick would have punch the chef in the throat. Anyway, there are plenty of tasty places in Luton terminal to eat, this is not one of em!

Tried to order food and was told not serving food as the kitchen was too busy. Unbelievable! Absolutely no customer service what so ever!

Visited the place this morning order food and drink and the staff never bothered to bring the food despite being told politely multiple times to different staff as well. When asked for a refund they told me food is on its way but never came despite waiting for more than 40 minutes. Very unprofessional. Will definitely not recommend to anyone.

Food and atmosphere are pretty good, especially for an airport joint. Ania was our server, and she was great! Super smiley, polite, efficient, and just the right amount attentive and chatty. Found myself commenting on how great she was every time she came to our table :) Thanks, Ania!

Very professional service especially Leonel was very accommodating and nothing was too much for him, very friendly and positive person definitely a credit to the team! The food was great too.

Ok, first off it's an airport bar so you can't expect the best quality or price. Secondly, I had the sausage and mash, and to be honest I live in Holland where you cannot get a decent sausage (too high a meat content), and these were great, not the highest quality, but we'll coocked and damn tasty. And easy recommendation. Finally service was great. Leonel was on hand when I wanted too order, he was talkative but not too much and kept an eye on me, when I needed a new beer he was right there. After a long day this was a just what I wanted.

I was served by Leonel, who was absolutely fantastic and knew everything there is to know about gluten free options. Recommend it if you have food allergies!

Service was good and friendly staff. Food was awful for the price. I expect things to be more expensive in an airport but I ordered ‘the ultimate sand which’ breakfast for £11, it came with 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 black pudding and an egg, which looked as though it wasn’t even a full egg. Awful value for money, even the full English is almost £20 and you get hardly any food. Photo for reference includes half of the sand which, I had already taken the black pudding out.

For £17, I expected a hearty serving of Mac and Cheese—something worthy of the price. Instead, the tiny ramekin was more appetizer than main. While the taste isn’t bad, it’s still just a basic combination of pasta and cheese, and the skimpy salad garnish doesn’t add much substance. Ultimately, it’s expensive for such a small, simple dish.

My usual breakfast haunt when I fly from Luton as i need to eat. Today was looked at gormlessly whilst being told that I would need to order from the app. Never had to do this before. Other areas were taking table orders. Could not remove an egg on the app! Manager was just plain ignorant. An already mediocre establishment just got worse. AVOID

Every time I fly from Luton I stop at Smithfield’s, usually surrounded by family or friends enjoying drinks or meals while waiting our flight. Food always good and tasty, staff very friendly professional and pleasant. 5 stars!!🌟 I will tell you a story now: Few days ago I went again for a drink at Smithfield’s this time on my own and I just grabbed a book randomly. I was shocked when I realised that the book was about a Saint very known in Greece. “Agios Paisios” Not only that, but few months earlier I went to Thessaloniki for holiday and in between my city trips I did visit the Monastery where actually the Saint Paisios was buried …and this made my story so special. I red few pages but obviously there is no chance to read over 300 pages within an hour or so and then I decided to ask the manager if I can possibly buy the book but the answer was as my expectations “we are sorry we’re not a library and we don’t sell books I’m afraid ”…fair enough but I insisted 🙂 and the the young lady manager in the end said “OK I can’t sell it to you but you can accept this book as a gift from us to a loyal and honest customer” I was so so happy!! Thank you very much (can’t remember her name, I think was Ewa…sorry if not), you made my day and my holiday too…see you soon!!! Much appreciated!!
