We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at a great price. I love the no phones, no internet, no music, no TV rules.

Rudest bartender ever. He tried to follow me ,- a woman to the toilet to take my phone off me. Not allowed to use phone in pub. I said I'll be using it to call police if you step foot into Ladies toilets!

Great atmosphere and fantastic managers/bar staff, I have a nervous twitch that makes me bark like an angry little dog, they kindly turn a blind eye to it, obviously they realise I'm not a 'real' dog........in which case I really would be banned. 👍

It's a Samuel Smith pub so their rules meant that the pub has absolutely zero atmosphere. The alpine lager was nice, the prices were low, but the rules just really make this place a ghost town. People came in their dribs and drabs for a drink or two, but no large groups, except from our group at the nearby barracks. We sat outside to escape the rules.

Relaxed and friendly venue. No phones allowed so be aware. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. We had sausages and they were decent butcher quality.

Good pub,great beer, friendly staff.

Best burger and fries I've eaten ever. The place is managed by a family and I guess that's why it's quite traditional. Also electronic devices aren't allowed so you just have to maintain conversations the old fashioned way. I will definitely be going back when next I'm in the neighborhood.

Cash only bar, arbitrary rules regarding no use of technology inside the pub seems to extend to anything sensible such as an ATM as there are no cash points nearby at all. Some of the bar staff have a really bad attitude and would be better off as door supervisors in a grotty London club than bar staff behind a local pub. Definitely one to miss if you have any viable alternatives... including sitting on a street corner with a can of Super. If HMRC are watching... I'd say you might want to pay this place a visit.

Went in for food, but unfortunately not doing food, also a technology free zone, no phones or tablets allowed.

Drink it nice but you won't recommend any of the brand's on tap. As other reviews have said, it's cash only, no mobiles allowed. Staff and owner can make you feel unwelcome.

Ok for a drop of Sam's if that's your drink of choice, some outside tables which always seem to be in the Sun.

Nice enough place for a Sam's but in a remote location so not a natural place to drop in for a drink unless you are local. Food served intermittently and nothing special. Can have a pleasant atmosphere if locals are in good sorts.

Nice pint, dogs were given biscuits. Plenty of room on outside benches.

Absolutely disgusting we pulled up in the car with outle to little girls and was told by a member of staff to leave the premises as children where not aloud on the premises never even got the car door open absolutely disgraceful never even said hello just told to leave!!!!

Called in for food. Unwelcoming atmosphere when got out of the car from the regulars and staff, the barmaid did not know if food was on that evening. Owner said food after 6 this was 5.30pm and told we could try somewhere else. Strange cash only payments taken here why is that??

Very un family friendly.... we were turned away from the pub due to having a child?

My wife and stepdaughter visited the other day and shown a table in the back section. There was a sign asking people not to stand at the bar, sensible, and tables were well spaced out. It's a nice pub with a modern look from outside with plenty of parking. It is CASH ONLY, so we went to the shop across the road for the atm. I will say the back room was a Tad smelly of old cigarette smoke but not invasive. They do some nice beers and other (usual) drinks. The food I have to say was excellent. I had home-made steak & kidney pie with veg, chips and gravy. The stepdaughter had chicken & leek pie with veg gravy and mash. The wife had a basket of chips with a chicken Burger and side salad. We all had a slice of garlic bread too. The food was excellent, piping hot, hot plates and the pies were stuffed to capacity with filling. Loads of meat in both. I've dropped a star for two reasons, one being the smokey room (open the windows and air it) and wife had a slight issue with her chicken Burger in that it was a thin fillet that had been overcooked and dry and the bun had been microwaved to warm so half way through started to harden. Our gravey was a bit thin too. Room for improvement and sn extra star. Will I be back and recommend. Most definitely. Really nice staff too.

Mi esposa y mi hijastra visitaron el otro día y mostraron una mesa en la sección de atrás. Había un cartel que pedía a la gente que no se parara en la barra, sensato, y las mesas estaban bien espaciadas. Es un pub agradable con un aspecto moderno desde el exterior con mucho estacionamiento. Es SOLO EN EFECTIVO, así que fuimos a la tienda al otro lado de la calle en busca del cajero automático. Diré que la habitación de atrás olía un poco a humo de cigarrillo viejo, pero no invasiva. Hacen buenas cervezas y otras bebidas (habituales).La comida que tengo que decir fue excelente. Comí bistec casero y tarta de riñón con verduras, patatas fritas y salsa. La hijastra tenía tarta de pollo y puerros con salsa de verduras y puré. La esposa tenía una cesta de patatas fritas con una hamburguesa de pollo y ensalada. Todos comimos una rebanada de pan de ajo también. La comida era excelente, bien caliente, platos calientes y las tartas estaban llenas de relleno. Mucha carne en ambos. Dejé caer una estrella por dos razones, una es la habitación llena de humo (abra las ventanas y ventílela) y mi esposa tuvo un pequeño problema con su hamburguesa de pollo, ya que era un filete delgado que había sido demasiado cocido y seco y el pan tenía se ha calentado en el microondas, por lo que a la mitad comenzó a endurecerse. Nuestra tumba también era un poco delgada.Espacio para mejorar y una estrella extra. Volveré y lo recomendaré. Definitivamente. Personal realmente agradable también.

He visitado el pub una vez antes, y me mudé al pueblo hace 18 meses. Mi primera experiencia no fue concluyente, sin embargo después de una visita ayer puedo confirmar que nunca volveré ni aconsejaré a mis amigos. La persona del bar era la dama más grosera que me había servido en un pub. Su manera áspera no era ni bienvenida ni bienvenida.

For me personally what a pub should be. Great staff, good prices, no music, no mobiles but then I'm a wrinkly.

Great pub, cheap pub. There's a rule that you don't have phones but the signs aren't very obvious and the barman was rude when I went on my phone. A part from that decent beer and standard local pub atmosphere

It's a Sam Smith's good food but if you like to be on your phone or laptop don't go

The pub its self is a nice place. However, you can not use mobile phones with in the premises. If you are seen using your phone in the pub. You will be asked to leave. If the staff over look or not notice any customers using their phone it could lose them their jobs. They should relax the rule.

Llamado por casualidad y fue gratamente sorprendido. Hay una cálida bienvenida y un ambiente acogedor.Había seis de nosotros para el almuerzo y cada uno de nosotros estaba satisfecho con la comida casera y abundante.Hacen almuerzos los domingos que esperamos probar pronto, y si son tan buenos como hoy esperamos un regalo.

Nice small town country pub, bit like a local from 20 years back. No card service, no mobile phone use allowed. Cheap ale but unfortunately it did make up for poor service. Bar maid had a massively poor attotide and was snappy to customers.

Not really my type of place... they didn't allow mobile phones (a sam smiths thing...) and stopped serving their food in early afternoon... I guess if you really want to shield yourself from the modern world (and customers) then do this... afraid i can't recommend...

Rude staff, no mobile/laptop/tablet policy frustrating for work or even to read my online magazines... But cheap drink mostly.

Great grub, good company. Friendly locals and easy on the pocket. Bar exemption rules are unusual. So if you like to have your head buried in your phone or tablet and you like to curse a lot then this place is not for you. Refreshingly this place actually makes you talk... Something that is lost in so many places.

Expensive. Unatmospheric. But free biscuits for the dog!

Exceptionally good beer. Like all Sam Smiths pubs it is cheap but some can be variable in quality. In this case I reckon the landlord knows his trade and keeps the beer just about perfect.

Entré y me preguntó si podía pagar con tarjeta o teléfono a las 1800 horas hoy. Un local nos gritó y dijo: guarde su teléfono móvil seguido por el hombre del bar. La primera vez que he estado en este pub durante un par de años y no puedo creer lo mal que ha ido. El personal desagradable más grosero que he visto.

Nice place, cheap beer and helpful staff

No phones, music or other electronic devices allowed in the pub.

First visit wife was told turn that mobile off love, no explanation. Second visit with niece and nephew was told they could not sit in the main room, they were sat by the fire it was 1930 he's and he is 14 years old, again no explanation given. Only other room was the Family room which was empty like the rest of the pub. We Sat outside with all the smokers then left. Unfriendly landlord with a attitude, and too many rules.

Stopped here on my way through for a quick drink, saw the unfriendly regulars littering the front of the pub. Usually a bad sign but we looked past that.Walked in, looked around, noticed it’s disgusting decor and surroundings, then noticed it was a Samuel smiths pub.Wiped our feet on the way out.

If you want to use your phone or electronic device inside this it is pub is not for you. They won't let you. On the bright side the beer is cheap. I'm giving this a 4 star just because of that

As visitors to the area we felt unwelcome because of the fierce attitude of the brewery to enforcing rules in this pub. These rules could be explained far more politely.

Sam smiths pub so cash only but I find the beer is good. Half the food menu not available. Warm sunny night so lots of kids riding scooters and bikes in car park. Call me old fashioned but there are some places that should be adults only.

If we were in Yorkshire again would avoid this pub.not very welcoming

We called and an estimate was given for expected time foreating Sunday Lunch. We didn't know such would be cooked for us. When it arrived it contained all the standard materials and was very hot but the whole visit was testing. Payment by card is not an option and has to be cash = seems it's a stance taken by the Brewery

A 32 minute wait for a singular fish finger, a fist sized pie and a bowl of vaguely chilli flavoured rice is especially excruciating in a pub where you're strictly not allowed to use a mobile phone.

Enjoyed our recent visit here. However I must say didn’t particularly like walking past all the customers smoking in the entrance. Not that they where daunting just don’t like it. Food and drink very reasonably priced and enjoyable.

Solid boozer, no frills, good ales and lagers, good snacks. Earthy fellow clientele. Water bowl for the dog, outside seating area. You know what you're getting here.

Visitamos hoy para un improvisado almuerzo dominical, desafortunadamente uno de los miembros de nuestra familia estaba bajo el clima y no pudo acompañarnos. Esto no fue un problema para el personal, tomamos nuestro propio plato y papel de aluminio y ellos prepararon una comida, ¡para nuestro miembro de la familia bajo el clima!Fue muy gratamente recibido y un agradecimiento especial por eso!La comida era deliciosa, verduras bien cocidas, roasties y yorkies.Teníamos las opciones de Turquía y carne. Ambos encantadores¡Gran ambiente tranquilo, no se permite "tecnología" y solo efectivo antiguo! Vale la pena recordar para futuras visitas.Desafortunadamente, cuando estaba de guardia, no podía ofrecerme la cerveza extra, ¡pero la tendré en nuestra próxima visita!Gracias por un buen almuerzo!

Drinks cheep and cheerful Comfortable seating and no music or TV Bliss for a quiet drink and a chat

Un pub limpio y acogedor, personal amable. Buena comida casera. Cuatro de nosotros, uno tenía el pastel y las papas fritas, no quedaba nada en su plato tan delicioso, dos tenían el sabroso pollo de los cazadores y uno tenía el muy tierno hígado de cordero servido con puré de papas, el repollo Savoy con excelente cocción y brócoli.

Been here few times and was always great. came here today and on the door it said, this is a cash only business no card machine!!! Always paid with card before couple of times, we didnt go back as we found that to be little off, no wonder the car park was empty, surely spending £20-£30 on card payment is better then loosing customer's each time!! wont be going there again, put us right off that attitude with no explanation or a sorry. lot of lost business there with it been a sunday and with toby carvery still closed too for a referb,what a daft way of doing business. Loosing it!!!!

We found the staff exceptionally friendly and the guests equally so. The food was delightful and the drink was very reasonably priced.

Just sat down with a pint and my laptop to finish some work, and was politely told that I must put the laptop away and it wasn't welcome. No coherent explanation. Beer wasn't great either.

Tucked away in a corner with my laptop and was politely told I wasn't allowed to use my laptop by the bar staff.... Meant I had to leave my pint and finish my work in the car. No sensible explanation offered at all.

The place is comfortable and the personal is helpful and kind

Called in on afternoon for drinks,found it a very friendly pub with good atmosphere so called back in the evening for a meal as we were staying locally for a 2 day break. The pub was reasonably busy from what I took to be Army personnel from local barracks,very good atmosphere. We ordered food for 2,my wife had a BLT with cheesy chips which she said was very nice,I had a Chese,potato and onion pie with veg and chips,it was very nice and tasty the veg was cooked to perfection,crispy and tasty. The chef even came and asked if I required vegetarian gravy as it was a vegetarian meal never gave it a thought,but great touch. Overall it was a very good meal and would certainly call again. Stayed for a few drinks after meal,good prices and very nice lager,highly recommended. Thanks to all staff.

A very comfy pub with character, fine beers and excellent food

There was a great atmosphere in the pub. The locals were welcoming. We had one blonde waitress mainly and she was incredible. Very friendly, and a great asset to the company.

When we visited there was only 12 to 16 people in the pub. Ordered food which we had to wait an hour and 10mins for it. Expected a lot more after the wait, however it was very basic

Nice staff. If you like staff smoking over you! Dark dreary inside. Dirty outside Dreadfully boring menu. The worst Publican I've ever met in my entire life. If this is your type of pub,then, great. If not there are 2 others within the area.

Fantastic spot, called in here twice during a local stay, food excellent and staff very friendly. Local customers made us feel very welcome. Not sure how anyone can give a negative comment but there is always some idiot that will never be happy. The beer is good and very keenly priced, £1.34 for a pint of mild!! The only negative that I can say is that it is too far to be my local. Hope to see it soon but this time will be looking for a stool at the bar so I can try all the beer sold here. Thanks all.
