Tesco in York

Just been served on the lotto counter, staff too busy gossiping and showing each other what ever was on their phones. Didn’t get a hello or thank you… the basics in retail, why do I bother giving you my money.

Just been in the cafe at Askham bar and the food that was coming from the kitchen looked great. Then my food came out, a hot ham and cheese panini. 1 small slice of ham and I think the cheese stayed in the fridge unfortunatly. There was only about 10 chunky chips in the portion and most of them were still hard, very poor meal for the money. About £7,25. The lady serving on the till didn't seem to have much humph in her and wasn't in a rush to get the que down. The young lady bringing food out was a very smiley happy person and helpful. Overall very disappointed with the meal.

Tesco just Tesco. Not enough fresh fruit .

I'm a massive fan of Tesco. Askham Bar is my local supermarket and it's one of the best I visit. Great staff, very good selection of goods and services, and always very helpful if you need it.

Always getting a basket check and made feel like a criminal even though no issues ever found. Disgusting

Our food order was taken back to Tesco. I hope that this’s information will reach the relevant decision-makers or if the issue will continue to impact customers like us. After five years of smooth deliveries, we experienced an issue where a driver refused to complete the delivery because my sister-in-law—who always receives our orders—was judged to look under 18. She didn’t have ID on her at the time, although she is 22 years old and adult to pay her pension contributions. There were no age-restricted items in the delivery—just simple family food items like pasta etc for the family with 4 kids. The driver ultimately took the delivery back, leaving our family without food. I hope he’s proud of himself for that decision. He even stated that for any delivery, Tesco’s policy is to ensure the recipient looks at least 25—regardless of whether the items are age-restricted.The driver’s refusal seemed to stem from his lack of experience interacting (his judgment of visual appearance) with people from non British backgrounds. Both the driver and Tesco customer service (I called) pointed out that the policy changes were listed on Tesco’s website. However, is this really an effective way to inform customers of such important changes? Tesco’s website contains extensive information, but is it too difficult to notify customers directly in the order receipt that they may be required to show ID for any deliveries, if the driver decided that he isn’t happy with the look of young 22-year-old non British woman? Utterly ridiculous

Well organized and have a lot of products. Fruits are fresh.

One of the night staff was not too happy

This store is my usual shopping place went today to have breakfast, food lovely and staff great too ,then used the ladies toilets and found them disgusting, a really bad smell, really need a deep clean, mentioned to customer desk and they said have been like this a while , not pleasant at all ,I usually enjoy shopping here but now seems customers online are more important, usually have to wait for online carts to move, I really appreciate the friendly staff who are helpful and make time to help me Thanks to the friendly staff!!

I was a regular customer to TESCO ASKHAM BAR, YORK until recently when I tried to return a dress which I’d brought for my 4yr old daughter. The staff member at the customer services desk told me I could not return it because I had removed the tags (even though I had the receipt and it was very clear from the condition that the item had not been worn). I asked to speak to a manager and he reiterated the same and said it was company policy. I could not believe what I was hearing. The dress was only £7, which is nothing to Tesco and the amount of profit it makes. Up until this point, I believed that Tesco was a reputable store which put customers first but clearly I was wrong. The store told me to call customer services if I was unhappy, which I did. The call centre advisor logged my complaint and said they had sent it through to the store and they would call me back. It’s now approximately 6-8 weeks since I complained and I’ve not received an acknowledgment or a call back from the store. A friend advised me to try returning the item to another store, which I did. I took it to the Tesco store in Clifton Moor, York. The staff member at the customer service desk accepted my return no issues at all. It was a completely different experience to what I had experienced at Tesco ASKHAM BAR. She checked my receipt and scanned my ClubCard and verified my purchase through my purchase history on my ClubCard, as it was clear to her the dress had not been worn and it was in a saleable condition. I have still not received a response from my complaint logged with TESCO ASKHAM BAR, YORK.

Went to tesco today. Got to a till where the cashier called Sally was serving a guy. She was telling g him her life story. Too busy talking Instead of scanning g his stuff. Was waiting ages to get served. Don't think much to customer service. It's busy enough at this time of year. Just do your job right and quit chatting.

Today my daughter and myself were in the cafe and had a mishap,spilling our coffee all over the food. Marcus came to the rescue and cleaned up the mess and organised fresh drinks and food assisted by the lovely Nicky,what felt like a disaster turned into a pleasant coffee break,we will definitely be coming here again,with such lovely staff!

Not open 24 hours anymore since COVID, but open from 6am until 12am except Sun. The ATMs outside are available 24/7, and the store is huge, everything you could possibly want

Although the food was good, it went cold quickly due to the cafe being cold and drafty. Many customers kept their coats on. I wouldn't return for this reason.

No hay opciones sin gluten en el menú, así que a mi sobrina de 17 años que tiene celiaco se le ofreció un snack bar. Ya habíamos pedido comida para el resto de la fiesta y luego nos dijeron que no podía comprar nada de Tesco para comer en el café con nosotros. La cafetería no solo no pudo satisfacer sus necesidades dietéticas, sino que tampoco estuvieron dispuestos a acomodarla para poder desayunar con el resto de la familia. Esto no parece muy inclusivo y tampoco cumple con los requisitos de la Ley de igualdad de 2010. Muy decepcionante Tesco!

My favourite supermarket for shopping. A big shop or a few odds and ends. Self service is brilliant always manned by helpful staff. It has everything you need and more!

Poor customer service here. Beware the lady who has short hair, she is rude and say poor wording to customer. If you have choice, don't go this store.

worst customer service ever I would give it no stars if I could the woman behind the counter was rude and with me having a sun flower lanyard could of been nicer or not be rude they should fire her I asked for something I couldn’t remember the colour and she was like “you should know the colour ur probably buying it for someone else” she should raise her voice at me wish had more nicer staff at the store really rude staff

Muy ocupado. Fue tarde en la mañana, pero no tuvo una larga espera. Tuve una patata chaqueta con atún que disfruté. Mi marido eligió una envoltura de pollo que fue realmente decepcionante. Apenas tenía pollo y contenía queso que no se quedó mirando en el menú. No puede comer queso, así que no estaba contento. Mencionamos esto a uno de los empleados a la salida. Dijeron que se lo dirían al gerente, con suerte lo hicieron. Tengo un pariente cercano que tiene una reacción alérgica grave a los alimentos lácteos, esto podría haber tenido consecuencias graves para personas como él. Indique claramente la inclusión del queso en el menú.

Terrible customer service at kiosk.

absolutely disgusting customer service from some of the staff here at the kiosk , just rude and unprofessional.

If i could rate my experience i would rate it a 0 star. I am actually shaking from anger. I try to buy a redbull, due to fact that i had a very strenuous morning as i woke up at 5am and had to come to school. I am 16 and have a a valid proof of id. Trace from the kiosk asked for id of all 4 of us (my friends), i get that we could all share but we’re all in college and over 16 anyways. She told me to go get another drink even tho i told her the tedbull is for me, because it was! I told her that i didnt rlly want to buy it anymore because i just wanted my rebull and was starting to feel uncomfortable. To which she threatened me that shes gonna watch my every step until i get out of the stop. None of my friends were buying anything and we were polite while she was very rude and passive aggressive. Its just a redbull Trace. No need to be so condescending and call me love and darling when i come back with a cherry coke 😡 (NOT A REDBULL)

Entré a comer algo por la tarde, pedí un panini de queso y jamón, estaba asqueroso, quemado y 1 loncha de jamón fino de papel y casi nada de queso, esta es la segunda vez que he estado y la primera vez que la comida era inadecuada, lo habría devuelto, pero estaba tan ocupado, no mucho personal y muchas mesas sucias, la próxima vez que vaya de compras a Tesco optaré por una oferta de comida!

As Tesco Extras go its an excellent one with a shopping trolley escalator. Large choice of everything you could want.

the eclairs are quite nice but the paying machine drives me crazy

Three visits to this store and on each visit the Internet signal was so weak the cashiers couldn't scan my club card at the till. I had to go to Customer Service to get my points. One member of staff was very rude and told me it wasn't her responsibility, but mine, to present my club card. My card is the e-card.!!! The till at Customer Service just kept buffering until eventually I just left the store in frustration. A multi million pound store and poor IT is ridiculous.

I highly recommend these guys, absolutely perfect job that they offer on the top of that Price is really good and reasonable. Will definitely use them again

Popped in this morning for breakfast. Was served by a lovely, friendly girl called Hollie who as it turns out was originally from near our hometown of Nuneaton. The food was really nice too, we had a veggie breakfast and a normal breakfast. The cafe itself was absolutely lovely too. We will definitely be coming here again on our next trip up to York.

This is a busy addition to a large Tesco store. Once you worked out the system of ordering at the counter, waiting for your hot drinks, and taking a table it all turned out very well. I had an excellent baguette, BLT, with hot bacon. And very pleasant it was too. Why deduct a star? There are areas that are a bit dark and dingy and away from the windows and that’s all I could get on the day. The staff were charming!

A very large superstore, with everything you could need from a Tesco's, including clothing, a pharmacy, great produce, a petrol station, a post office, a Timpson, a Waves car wash, good parking and even a Nando's.

Great experience picking up my C&C. Big free sample of Costa. Thanks Tesco. Some of us appreciate getting a freebie. Not like we're all buying chocolate eggs to give to each other right now is it?

Just received an unsolicited sample of Costa coffee with my family online shopping. Ultra high processed, 60 (SIXTY) grams of sugar in 750ml and additional caffeine. If I have to explain why attempting to get families hooked on this isn't good Tesco's need a moment of reflection on their CSR...

There is always parking, helpful staff and you rarely find out of stock items. Only issue is that there is no service with O2 and giffgaff. Therefore, if you need to scan your big shop coupon, you need to open it on your phone before you enter the shop.

Very grimy looking... there's a much nicer one just around the corner, which I didnt see in time, but had just about what we needed and the sales assistant was lovely and very speedy. I know it was a Saturday evening, but not sure the security guard needed to be quite so stary/scary! You want customers i would guess!

I have my shopping delivered every Monday from Tesco Tadcaster Road York. The drivers are very friendly and helpful.

Handy big supermarket close to home

Came to Tesco this morning for breakfast, not serving any coffee, the bacon was cold and sausage under cooked, overall experience very poor!

Great produce, reasonably priced, unfortunately some shelves empty, not crowded, helpful staff, well signposted, cafe in store, sells clothes, pharmacy in store. Good parking including disabled.

Tesco Extra. Tadcaster Road. A great place to visit for almost all your shopping needs. Food. Wine. Magazines newspaper. Sweets and lots more to explore. Great cafe too. Staff always helpful in finding the very thing your looking for. I like going here always something new and great offers weekly.

I had posh beans on toast which comes with a poached egg on top it was really tasty and l believe it was only 450 calories. As l was on my own l could watch all the waiters and waitresses working very hard. The staff are lovely very friendly and polite. It was run very well, the tables were cleaned the minute they were free. I would recommend this cafe.

Great supermarket. Has clothing upstairs. Good parking and access. Fuel station and car wash too.

I visited the store today, I mostly do my shopping here but today at checkout I found the lady rude, didn't seem interested in my shopping, no smile or communication from her. Not a good experience today 😕

Generally staff always polite and helpful especially using crutches at moment, on this occasion trying to carry a shopping basket using crutches passed some staff on shop floor and no offer of help

2pm Friday afternoon and lots if gaps in shelves. Informed once it's gone that's it until next day delivery. Appalling really when people who work may then wa t to do their weekend shop!

Very good Tesco. This Tesco is located very conveniently, and is very large. Good variety of everything and the staff are lovely.

We decided to go here instead of Asda, mainly because of the electric vehicle charge points. Theres a great range of food, clothing and even a cafe, which we greatly enjoyed.

Firstly visted the cafe just for a coffee and muffin. Really friendly staff. Served quickly and all tables promptly cleared and cleaned. Supermarket is fully stocked and well laid out. Plenty of room in aisles. Good value for money, exact same shop for exactly the dame products at another supermarket turned out £30 cheaper at Tesco. Needless to say I am moving to Tesco for my weekly shop now! Till staff friendly, chatty and make you feel welcomed.

The Cafe did a reasonable scampi and chips. However, the cutlery was slightly dirty, the floor hasn't been swept, and the staff were more interested in playing at least 2 simultaneous music soundtracks as a clash between front of house and kitchen

Great big Tesco! The number 3 bus serves this pretty regularly and the selection is great. Especially Gluten Free products.

It's a big store you can find everything you need but they do sometime move stuff around which does not help and some products are a lot of money my gran wanted some coffee for her Dolce gusto machine but it was £4.50 which is a lot for a box

Never waited so long for a drink . One person serving/making drinks , which due to the nature of the drinks available take time. Another female member of staff walking round looking busy ,(and gormless ), with a cloth in hand !! Kept looking at queue and just walked on in opposite direction … Unfortunately this is a common occurrence nowadays , staff/workers with very little interest in work … ☹️ Hot chocolate nice thou !!

Went early easy parking staff very helpful,nice cup of coffee when I finished my shopping, also very clean toilets.

No longer stock any children's shoes...more importantly wellies which we needed and wouldn't have even thought to ring and check beforehand.... Why???

Did scan and shop for first time ever and got right to the last couple of aisles and the scanner decided to reboot and we lost everything. We then had to scan it all again and repack. The self service always needs an assistant to come over

Huge thanks to Tesco staff for finding my father, who has dementia. They searched the area, found him and my mother in different areas, and kindly brought them water to drink.

Shocking customer service, placed an online order, money was taken. Then one hour before it was due the order was cancelled. I was told I could collect the following day between 7am and 7pm, my wife drove to the click and collect point as instructed(32 mile round trip) only to be told the order wasn’t there. Only option to re order and pay again then wait for 3-5 days for a refund from the first order, leaving me £300 out of pocket. Absolutely awful.

Super rude lad behind the till, I ordered a strawberries and cream frappe, he finished making it and I said “that looks so nice” he then said “well it’s actually the most pain in the arse drink to make so your WELCOME” and slammed my drink down, I visit here at least 2 times a week with been at college over the road and have never had one bad thing to say but I was not impressed by his attitude at all!!!!!!!

The man named Harry , brown stuffy greasy hair was so rude, my friend ordered a strawberry and cream frappe and she turned and said to me “ooo that’s look really nice” then the man goes “it’s a pain in the arse drink to make, SO YOUR WELCOME” and then slammed the drink on the side causing it to spill. And then whilst we were eating he kept walking past and staring at us! He shouldn’t be talking to customers this at all, if he doesn’t like working with customers then leave! SIMPLE!!

This store is very handy if you only need a small shop,very well laid out in produce,would recommend too anyone.

Disappointing lunch today. Long wait. Sausage sandwich and chips and side order of mushrooms and jacket and tuna. Sausage sandwich and chips weren't the warmest. The mushroom was tough and chewy and looked very sad in the bowl. The fridge doesn't work I was told so the coke and fizzy water warm. Not a good experience really

Tesco if you are reading this please offer options for people with Coeliac/gluten intolerant. This is not a choice like being vegan it is a serious health condition. Offering a jacket potato is not good enough in this day and age. Offer soup and a gf roll or a gf sandwich. Really disappointed.

I'm going to be fair with this rating as there are some nice staff but the majority of them are grumpy, rude and self-entitled. Mainly the management and supervisors. Ridiculous queues and hardly anybody on the tills. Just another example of how cutting costs to save a few pennies looses a lot of customers

It's a fab store, you can literally kit your whole home out & fill your cupboards, fridge freezer with goodies too. It's a bit pricy at the moment so I don't visit that often! I'm lidl shopper now.

The store is fine, the staff are fine, but whoever it was that decided the 'automatic" hand washers and dryers were a good investment wants sacking for misconduct. Good grief they are ridiculous

Large supermarket with wide choice of products.

The food is expansive and not that good (specially the crispy chicken burger, which is often served cremated - I suspect they fry it over and over again) but as the ambiance is nice, I kept going for lunch and ordering breakfast, which is not too bad. Marcus, (who I believe to be the manager) was nice only once, when he needed us to give a good review on a survey (which we did, but later regretted). Now there is an older waitress who thinks she can treat customers like sh*t. I have always tried to ignore her rudeness because I like the place but today I had enough when I saw her being extremely rude to some very polite customers next table just because they were from the College. The way they are treating customers is truly disgusting and I’m not coming back.

Vast store on multiple levels. The cafe is particularly nice with wonderful friendly service and really nice freshly made cakes.

Can't fault it. Always great whenever we go, great coffee, excellent choice of menu and great value for money.

Visited this cafe today with my mum and the food exceeded all my expectations! We both had the scampi and chips and there was loads of scampi, a dish of chips (not too many, not too few) and a fair sized blob of mushy peas. The food was so hot and fresh you had to give it a couple of minutes to cool! Quality was great- just as good as any bar meal and a fraction of the price. Nice surroundings and friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
