Just called for a drink this teatime. Hubby went to the bar no beer on draft only lager as he only drinks beer we just left. This is about the 4th time in recent months that this has happened it will be the last as we will no longer be going hoping that they have beer on. Lorraine

Staff are fantastic, love the decor. Decently priced. Food portions are massive and all made from scratch to order none of this chef mike stuff (microwave), more then happy waiting as the food was it amazing, will definitely be back to try the carvery and to get more of the garlic mushrooms starter.

In response to previous reviews regarding HOC carvery Ltd , this was an outside catering company who are no longer associated with the Sir Tom Finney due to quality and reliability issues. Previous review in relation to lady manager the pub has a male manager and the member of staff highlighted is bar staff. The new management have made some amazing changes to the pub which is now a very welcoming vibrant place to socialise. I for one look forward to the new catering changes .

Went in mid week 6pm, ordered the two carverys. Had to wait for the ‘chef’ to come out cause the lad behind the bar forgot to tell him. We had to ask for fresh mash, as the bit that was left in looked dry, and it was lumpy when it came, and while waiting, our veg and meat was already on the plate going cool. the Yorkshire pud was cold, didn’t look like it was in a heated tray, I can safely say the only good thing about that plate was the gammon, and that’s cause it was fresh. The ‘chef’ asked how our meal was, and didn’t seem impressed with my reply. Won’t be going again, and certainly won’t reccomend. If they are serving till 8pm, you would expect the veg and Yorkshire pudding to be replenished regular.

Under new ownership, used to go for lunch, dinner when it was the old owners, always enjoyed it, never complained. Decided to go tonight with a friend for tea. Found a table, and perused the menu. We had heard good things about the carvery. We ordered around 6 pm, got drinks and ticket for the carvery. We stood at the carvery post for quite a while, we ended asking of there was anyone to serve. A young man came out to us, admitting he had forgotten to tell the chef. There was hardly any gammon or turkey/chicken,not quite sure what it had been. We asked the young lad was their more meat. He went away to ask the chef. He came out checked what was left and went to get fresh meat. We both opted for gammon and beef. They were both very nice, fresh and hot. Selected the veg most of the containers had very little left. We asked if thete was more mash, the chef went to get some more mash. He put the new mash on top of the old mash, at other carveries ive been to they change the containers over, old one out, new one in. We went back to our table to eat the meal. We found that the yorkshire pudding was cold, the only veg not cold was the mashed potatoe We were very disappointed. i wonder if we would have a better experience if we had gone for lunch, instead of later. The chef came to collect the plates asked how the food had been. We told him food was cold, mash lumpy. We felt bad for saying it, but felt we had to say something. We never normally complain, really don't like to, but just couldn't not say anything. the chef said he would tell them, we didn't get an apology, could tell he wasn't happy. On leaving, we noticed the chef, young lad and the lady behind the bar stood together talking and looking at us. Made us feel awquard. We think the lady was the manager, but hadn't come to speak to us. We weren't looking for a refund, just wanted to make them aware .

Came last Wednesday for the steak night and 3 steaks were not cooked as requested (one gammon was perfect). Tonight the cheese pie had no filling, mainly pastry. The steak pie was okay and the kids fish goujons and chicken nuggets were very greasy, as were the onion rings. The tartare sauce was weird tasting and the chips were sparse. Would be upset if we’d paid full price!

We’ve only lived in Penwortham for approximately 18months and this is our favourite place to have a drink and a meal out. The staff are friendly and you feel comfortable with the safety precautions that have been put in place. The pub has had a facelift and it looks fresh and smart, but it is the food that makes it stand out, it is cooked from fresh on site and we have tried different dishes and also the specials they have on different nights and we have never been disappointed. All the staff at Sir Tom Finneys have tried really hard in these difficult times to continue as best as they can to give us some kind of normality and we’ve got to support them in return. So give them a try.And to all the staff, continue with the good work.Mark and Gaynor

I find it hard to understand why someone would risk the livelihood of a young couple and their team doing a fantastic job trying to make a living in these present times and providing a safe and comfortable environment with fantastic food, drink and service. The car park at the Finney is there for patrons of the pub. Car parking spaces have been reduced due to the landlord creating a comfortable beer garden so parking is of a premium. People parking on the Finney car park (and Sainsbury's for that matter) waiting to collect kiddies from All Hallows reduce capacity on the car parks for those wanting to visit these establishments. At the end of the day, it IS their land.....would you be happy if I parked on your front garden and went shopping or collected my kids from school???? I don't think so ..... think about your negative reviews and their implications before submitting them!!! Anthony and Steph......your doing a great job...ignore these negative, waste of time posts!!!!!!

Booking whilst the eat out help out scheme I was very dubious as to the service at previous establishment has been finished. However, I can happily report the from start to finish our experience was 10/10!! Hand sanitiser offered on entry, seated promptly and our drink orders taken shortly after being handed a disposable menu. Our starters arrived within good time, all plentiful and delicious, we could t wait for out mains! We ordered steak, fish and chips and the steak and blue cheese pie! We were blown away by there sheer quality of the food! It’s like you’re dining at a 5* restaurant for half the price! Overall the food was incredible and you have really made our short holiday to Preston one to remember! Also one for me is the cask ales! Their lines actually taste clean!!

Attentive start and great starters then waited 45 minutes, asked where mains were and they arrived 10 minutes later but the gf steak meal definitely wasn't gf. Sent back both while was sorted. 15 mins later re-served. The steak was great but no steak knife. The pie meal was returned, luke warm with cool chips Realised when half way through no peas has been served as ordered. Evening a bit sour. Seemed the meal forgotten and rushed when we asked. However noticed that some known customers on tables nearby served very quickly.A drink was offered while waiting but the experience was a disappointment.

The Tom Finney has had a bit of a roller coaster history. At times it has been very good but I hadn't been for a while since my last visit had proved only average. However, it seems to have changed landlords and is on the up again. Menu prices may not be cheap but there are some attractive special offers -- a curry night, a lunch club, a Friday sharer. We went for the Friday special at £20 which included a generous platter of fresh fish goujons, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce for two people as well as a bottle of house wine. We chose the red which turned out to be Hardy's very drinkable Shiraz. The food was plenty for two people and very tasty. Highly recommended.

We went for a meal to discuss hiring the pub for a private function. We made an appointment to visit and talked to the landlady who eventually came to talk to us after ignoring us for ages talking to the locals. We left a deposit. In short they gave us back word at the last minute and said there were not enough guests to shut the pub but they agreed we could confirm numbers nearer the time and the final numbers were pretty much the same as we had already quoted. They let us down at the last minute which wasn't good. We did get a refund but so we should have done. Don't like the landlady at all she is obviously in love with herself and I do not like her attitude at all she had a couldn't care less attitude. Food was good apart from the burnt chips. Visited with family and ordered the fish and chips sharing platter. When it arrived the fish was on top and it looked a very dark colour. On moving it the chips were underneath and looked cremated they were that overdone, I would be ashamed to even serve them up at home. The fat obviously needs changing as all you could taste was the fat. We asked for more chips which to be fair arrived and were a lot lighter in colour but you could still taste the overwhelming taste of the fat. Have been here before and have never been totally happy with our meals, this one could be the last straw. Sorry for this as I live locally and want the pub to do well but with food like this it needs some help.

Well not what I expected! I have lived in the area and never been in here! The it never looked that appealing from outside but definitely give it a go! Inside it’s much better! And the food was delicious. It was busy and we were told there would be a wait which we didn’t mind - meant it was cooked to order. I got Pie of the Day - Chicken, Ham and Leek which was lovely - nice light pastry. The others got the burgers which were substantial. You don’t get loads of chips which isn’t a bad thing really! We were too full for puds!

Visited last Friday as I was taking my mum out for lunch - my mum chose the venue as she lives locally. I must say, I was impressed. We both opted for the fish and chips, followed by cheesecake with fresh cream the caramelised apple pudding with ice cream - delicious!! We were served promptly with drinks, food etc., Excellent value for money, fantastic food....would highly recommend.

We often visit the Sir Tom Finney for Sunday dinner because it is absolutely delicious. The roast beef dinner is cooked to perfection. Would recommend you book prior to visiting. Friday tea time and Sunday afternoons can get particularly busy. The relatively new landlord/landlady have made great efforts to improve the pub and the décor and lighting is very warm and inviting. Live music on Friday and Saturday evenings is usually of a very good standard. We particularly like going to see Gary Gibson (John Lennon/Elvis tribute act) .... always a great night.

My wife and I have recently visited the Sir Tom Finney where we both had a very enjoyable meal. The menu appears very imaginative but on this occasion we just opted for the £5.95 lunch time choice (1 course) which is excellent value for money and still very good portion size. I had the cheeseburger and my wife had the chilli con carne. Both meals were well cooked, tasty and very nicely presented. We particularly liked the accompanying home made onion rings and the nachos. (these were not out of a packet as they often are ). The place has a nice atmosphere with very pleasant, friendly staff. This was our first visit but it wont be our last. There is also regular entertainment on here so would like to check that out too.

Have been twice now on Sundays and the food has been excellent. Good specials choice. Just moved to Penworthan and so pleased to have found a good eatery on our doorstep. The service was very good and the food came quickly and piping hot.

From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, the staff are friendly, polite and attentive. The food is great - for breakfast we had breakfast buns and coffee - the food was piping hot, the coffees too and very tasty. There is a very pleasant atmosphere inside and the whole place is spotlessly clean. Can't complain at just under £20 for two large breakfast barmcakes and two coffees. We will return soon.

My mum and I visited The Hunters Pub earlier today in Lostock Hall, and I can genuinely say it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in years. The food was absolutely delicious and clearly prepared with care. The staff were outstanding; they went above and beyond to make my birthday special and nothing was too much trouble. The friendly and attentive service truly added to our experience. I highly recommend The Hunters Pub to anyone looking for great food and warm hospitality. We’ll certainly be back and will be recommending it to all our friends and family!

I can not thank The Yew Tree enough for a fabulous evening. All the staff are so accommodating, and service with a smile goes a long way. My visit was a Birthday party for 15 family members, all the meals arrived on time and were all very good quality. The chef needs a good pat on the back for this. Not one person had a complaint. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will be a returning customer.

Not gonna lie, it's not cheap here. But the menu is on the window, you know what to expect if you visit here price wise. My meal was £16.65 for a breakfast and a cup of tea. It was a large full English though, and the tea came in a pot, so it was enough for 2 cups. The quality of the food was exceptional. My only slight niggle was the beans were runny, not thick (you know when you always try to buy Heinz or Branston rather than own brand beans from the supermarket, you can tell the difference). But the sausages, black pudding, eggs, mushrooms were all high quality and cooked very well. Service was great, prompt and attentive and the food was cooked and served quickly. I was an early bird and first in at 0945 but by 10am it was already busy and to guarantee a table you should book in advance. Definitely would recommend trying here. If I was rich, I'd have breakfast here everyday.
