Breakfast was well worth the money, service good, i enjoyed the experience, will return and recommend

We always visit the Silkstone when we shop in Barnsley. It's a shame this one is up for sale as it is one of the best Wetherspoons for giving hot food. Called in today and had the special, mixed grill for £5.99. Super value and all nicely cooked meat. Nice friendly staff. Cant understand why it is on death row as it is always busy and does lovely food.

Visited for lunch whilst shopping in Barnsley. This is the best Wetherspoons for the food. It is always red hot and tasty everytime we go. All staff nice and friendly. Barnsley folk are so friendly. Slight moan for this visit......went to the loo downstairs and all the stairs and corridors stunk like wet dogs! Apparently they have had a leak for a month and the carpets are sodden wet thru. Needs sorting it is not nice.

This can be very busy with lots of old, well o w d folk like me at 73! Can be very friendly behind bar but one or two a bit distant, so gags go to waste! But ber in good nick with a couple of good ones. The pizzas are juicy and well cooked.

Same story at other W/spoon outlet lack session real ales. Doomed to mainstream mass produced real ales. And Real Ale Festival being advertised in leaflet for 20th Oct to 31st with 20 choices from only 3.6abv to 6.0. There were three local ales from Sheffield, as lady explained who came to explain after I pointed out the dreaded Doombar was not local at bar. Have only been CAMRA member on and off since 1970s. Food was quickly served, though only garlic bread and 8 inch pizza. The garlic bread was undercooked, though eatable. Doughy but for 73 year old did not suffer indigestion! At least Barnsley folk have not changed nor thaccent!

All the usual meals of Wetherspoons. In the town centre but down a back street. Much rather go there in the day time. I have noticed the menu has changed for all Wetherspoon pubs and not for the better

The burger and a pint deal is always terrific value, ordering on the app can be a tad problematic if wanting a real ale but food arrived promptly and was great value.

Been here today for lunch, the food was good and hot. Between us, we had two Currys, a classic burger and a pizza. PIzza was hard to cut. Friday and hardly any Cider or no Dark Fruits, John Smiths a bit flat. Service at the bar was not great and some people had their drinks order mixed up.

Absolutely disgusting attitude! Work friends all sat on 3 different tables but asked to leave as we leant over to talk one another! Were following the guidelines and 2 metres apart. Spoke disgustingly to key workers would never visit again. Ruined the night! Would never ever recommend.

Desperately needs refurbishing, attracts rough types, swearing and drunkenness, give it a swerve. Bar staff give impression they would prefer to be somewhere else.

2020 Covid review You can check in via the NHS app at the entrance. there's hand sanitiser. if you have the Wetherspoons app you can sit on the tables to the left with a red sticker on the table. Otherwise go to the right and sit on a table with a yellow sticker and wait for table service. I went to the left, ordered on the app and got my beer pretty quickly.

Lets face it wetherspoons dont have to try and serve average micowave ping food THEY DO its all about if you can't be bothered you head off to cheep eats WETHERSPOONS, it has to be on the top 5 of basic but just to add to that list of disappointments is the manager face like thunder and attitude to go with it. Table was sticky ,capet disgusting, bathroom needs ripping down

We couldn't be bothered to cook so we did a morrisons shop then went over the road to The Silkstone. £7.99 10 oz Rump, Jacket Potato, Mushroom, Tomato and Peas, Glass of Rose Wine. Cooked to perfection. You couldn't cook at home for that price. Excellent.

Visited today pre Barnsley football match at home. VERY busy but found table straight away. Ordered food and drinks on app and arrived within 10 minutes!! Excellent food and service as usual!! No prob in this wetherspoons at all ever. Recommend visiting this wetherspoons as always excellent service and food.

Visited 6pm friday 29 Nov 2019.Wanted to order a Christmas meal. Ordered the turkey option. Got a decent plateful but alas no roast potatoes (to be fair this was omission was obvious from the menu). As soon as plate was put on table I could tell there was only about 1 teaspoon of gravy so I asked waiter for more gravy. He said that would be an extra 30p per jug. I was horrified at the thought of leaving my meal to go to the busy bar to order a jug of gravy. The waiter didn't volunteer to take payment & bring the gravy but agreed to do that when I asked. I waited for the gravy to arrive but eventually started to eat the meal which was starting to go cold. When the gravy did come (10 mins?) it was tepid & insipid & I had almost finished my meal. As far as the meal goes the 2 tiny carrots tasted like yesterday's re-heated & I couldn't find any parsnips. A few years' ago Wetherspoon's served a smashing Roast Turkey dinner but for the last few years they seem to have lost the Christmas spirit & their Christmas turkey meal misses the mark. One other thing, what happened to traditional Christmas Pudding? How hard is it to serve traditional Chistmas Pudding with brandy or rum sauce? I will never have a Christmas meal there again. Bah humbug!

Had fish and chips on special at £3.99. Very nice and good sized portion as always at the Silkstone great guest beers.

Another nice weatherspoons - and Wetherspoons do Food well - even if their Food Menu is a bit boring if your doin a meal on the Cheap like i sometimes do

Went to Barnsley with two older grandchildren. Steady away and got table easily. Ordered 4 meals at bar with very friendly girl. Cant beat prices at spoons. 4 meals and 4 drinks £24. Dearer in small cafes. Meals arrived within 5 minutes and all were very hot and fresh. All lovely meals. Told lady who looked like the manager how nice they were. Defo recommend this wetherspoons and will be back.....

Went shopping in Barnsley and visited The Silkstone as we always do. Went to bar to order as my skinny chicken burger wasn't showing on the app. The bar wasn't too busy when I went and waited couple of minutes. Young lad came to me and I started to say table number to which he said just a minute. Disappeared into the kitchen. Few more folk came to bar and ONE girl serving! Eventually lad came out of of kitchen Came to me again muttered something then went again and served at other end of bar!! More folk got served who came after me ! Very frustrating. I had to shout to another woman can I get served at this end. 15 minutes later I got served. We visit wetherspoons all over and this is usually the problem with getting served. It is about time there was a system set up in all wetherspoons to enable folk to get served in turn. Today was the worst bar service I have ever had. The food was excellent served by nice friendly woman. One if the best chicken burgers I have ever had. Hot and fresh. Lovely salad.

Four of us had a meal here on Thursday afternoon. Becky at the bar was great and the service was perfect.

Called other Tuesday and was only going to get a drink but after seeing £7.70 for steak chips and peas with a drink of my choice it seemed like a no brainer

Visited on a Wednesday so busy. Not the cleanest of places but on walking in it was like going back in time. It smelled just like pubs used to, of stale cigarette smoke. Didn't bother ordering food.

Another good visit to this decent Wetherspoons. Once again food was delivered promptly and up to the usual standard. An excellent selection of drinks was available.

Pleasant enough pub, decent beer range and good value. Fairly small by Wetherspoon standards, the Joseph Bramah has more space. Can't complain about my food, the mixed grill was decent, and as usual swiftly prepared

came in for dinner on monday afternoon really disappointed food was best part, received no check back, tables was mucky and sticky, one staff member looked messy and to be honest didn’t smell brilliant either thumbs up for food but thumbs down for the rest

Been here at least 50 times for food and a further 100 plus times for just drinks

Tried pizza today highly recommended my husband had mixed grill which wasn't bad but would not have again. Noisy place and took.a while to get served but food was ok.when it arrived . Pizza for me all the time

The drinks are great in here really good pricedAt the end of the day it is a Wetherspoons pub and you know what you’re going to get before you go in there what you do get is great value for money and some real characters in there all day long the refill coffee is absolutely fantastic value for money fantastic At the end of the day it is a great place to go for a cheap meal and a nice drink

To be honest never had a bad meal here you get what you pay for the food always well cooked arrives hot service pleasant .

Second time we've been disapointed with the food.realy gone down hill in the last six mths.its never been anything fancy but always been good value for money.last time we had a garlic bread for a starter so thin and hard couldn't eat it,we were told by staff that its always that thin and that's how its made.also chips were freezing so they brought some more.so we tried eating there again,it wasn't good,jacket potatoe and beans cold,just a spoonful of beans as well,I had noodles,well what there were of them,very bitter tasting and chicken was dry and over cooked.we will not be eating here again no matter how cheap it is.also well over due a revamp or a deep clean

My wife and I called in for a Sunday meal and I ordered the Lamb Shank and she ordered Chicken and noodles. Unfortunately the manager came and told me that the Lamb Shank had sold out. He was very good about it and told me that I could order off the menu, anything I wanted for the same price as the Sunday Special Lamb dish.

The best of the two Wetherspoons pubs in Barnsley. It has more choice including two taps from Geeves local brewery which was nice to see.

Called in for fish friday and had a great piece of Cod with chips and mushy peas also included was a drink so excellent value for a great meal

We called on "Steak Tuesday" for our favourite spoons meals and it was beautifully cooked to our preference. I had the usual upgrade of the larger steak at £2.00 extra which is a good buy. Well cant say much more than give it a try you'll enjoy also. Also the service is very good

I had, most likely the best meal ever in a Wetherspoons bar at The Silkstone. I had the chicken strips and they were very hot and very tasty. It was a really lovely meal and the service was great too. The standard of food quality was excellent and this will by my go to eatery when I’m next in Barnsley

I went to the Silkstone Inn with my father and brother and was rather pleasant. Breakfast was beautiful and the drinks were nice. Overall a good visit

Popped in the silk stone for a couple of drinks, the place was very full but we were served straight away , the staff are really friendly and polite, it's got a great atmosphere, will be popping in again ,.

Visited Silkstone Inn on Saturday 16 Dec 2017 at 5.30. Wanted to order from Xmas Menu. Bar staff said there was nothing available on Xmas menu. Unbelievable. Please note: overall rating is based on this experience. Had no problems on previous visits.

The Silkstone is a pleasant pub atmosphere and one of my locals when in town for Barnsley F.C Football matches. But today was my wife's day out to choose where we went for our Lunch, and choose well as our Steaks were done to perfection hers medium well done and mine medium rare, all for £7.49 each which included a pint Guinness and pint John Smiths.The service was really quick, and friendly staff added to a very pleasant experience. Well worth a visit when in Barnsley.

When we are in Barnsley shopping, we always call in the Silkstone public house, which belongs to the Wetherspoon chain of pubs.Anyone who drinks John Smiths smooth beer will find it is a cheap pint at £1-60 pence, where has the price is around the £2.70 pence mark in normal pubs.Personally I am a real ale drinker, the price around £2-35 pence to £2-45 pence a pint what I paid on our recent visit Friday 2nd June 2017.Plenty of people in the pub, only thing I find not very good is the winding narrow staircase to the toilets, but there is a disabled toilet on the ground level.A place to call for a few drinks when shopping, never had a meal so can't comment.

Have visited the Silkstone Inn many times when visiting family. Food has always been good and up to Wetherspoons standards. I have always found staff very friendly.

Wetherspoon quality and value as you would expect. Great selection of beers and wines at very reasonable prices. Food is good quality and great value.

Shopping today in Barnsley,so called in the Silkstone a Wetherspoon's public house, which we normally call in, when in town.I am a real ale drinker, to which I found a good pint called Viking, from a brewer from York, a nice quenching drink at £2.35 pence.To me the Silkstone is a place for having just a drink, never fancied having a meal, one thing I don't like is where the toilets are situated, they are down a narrow winding staircase, the toilets are very clean, but I don't know how anybody with some weight on them gets down the stairs, they must use the disabled toilet on the same level has the bar / seating area.

Managed to spot this as we were walking round Barnsley and always look for the local Wetherspoons. Even by their prices the drinks were exceptionally cheap, and excellent both in taste and temperature. Will definitely go back when in Barnsley again and will eat next time. A big thank you to the staff there as well, we were strangers but were made to feel very welcome.

Different, as one might expect to the other Wetherspoons B/ley outlet, the Bramah. Perhaps not quite a busy, and the clientele is different but the ale was excellent when I/we were there. One of the Acorn Brewery products was nectar and I had to try three pints to verify the first reactions of my taste buds! Not the first time I have been here on a nostalgia trip, as I lived in B/ley until 1984, but the folk and the atmosphere does not change.

Shopping today in Barnsley, after getting every thing we required, we called at the Silkstone Inn, a wetherspoon's public house.The pub was quite today, which was unusual saying it was Wednesday market day, but all the better to get served, I had a pint of Speckled Hen at £2.35 pence being a real ale, my wife having a brandy & dry ginger at £2.60 pence.The public house as outside seating, so o/k for anyone having a smoke, only thing about the Silkstone Inn is the toilets, to which you have to go down a narrow staircase, but I carry a radar key for the disabled toilet on the normal bar area, which I require after having knee replacement surgery.The pub is a meeting place for all groups of people.

Stopped here for a coffee break while we were shopping in Barnsley. Its located a short walk from the shopping centre close to the markets in the centre of town. There are tables outside at the front as well if the weather is good. Quick service and great coffee with free refills up to 2pm. They also do take out as well if you are in a hurry. Great value.

Went in for fish and chip Friday. No fish and chips! Still 4 hours serving time to go. Still advertising throughout the pub. Needless to say we went elsewhere.This seems to be a theme in this pub. Last time we went they had no salmon bagel and the time before no gammon on steak night. We won't be going again.

When shopping in Barnsley we always call in the Wetherspoon's public house, the 'Silkstone'.We called today 27th July 2016 for a drink, the pub was very busy, after queuing a long time I finally got served, be it only 2 bar staff serving, & 1 more doing something else.The Silkstone has a good range of real ales, which I drink at decent prices.There were a lot of people eating in the pub, but for me I would only use the pub as a meeting point for a drink.

You know where you are with a Wetherspoons pub as the food is pretty much of the same standard in each one. My current favourite is ham eggs and chips and the chips here were prefect even though they are frozen. This is a really cheap meal, but very satisfying. The place is nice and staff friendly.

Been going for years "cheap and cheerful". Got to know staff and other customers. Usually a good atmosphere early evening. Sadly will not be patronising again.

You pretty much know what you're going to get with a Wetherspoon's - cheap and hopefully cheerful.We came on a Tuesday and it was nice and quiet. The staff were efficient and friendly.I love Wetherspoon's as you can have a double G&T for £3.60, my preference being Hendrick's.

Much better than places we've been in previous years, food was of good quality with a good range to everyone's tastes, drinks were of a sensible prices and we felt very welcomed by some great staff Very happy.

After queueing in the food ordering designated queue may as well have been invisible as staff continued to serve customers ordering drinks and allowing them to order food along with them. When eventually our food order was taken the bar person couldnt work the food till when advising them that drinks were included in the price looked like she had no idea. When we eventually got the food chicken melt had no cheese on it and came with chips included (12)!

Me and my partner had a drink in here last night before are meal and on of the staff was asleep at the bar and is just full of dirty drunks

We were shopping in Barnsley on Sunday morning and about lunchtime got peckish, we decided to try the Silkstone Inn as we had not been before and you usually get good consistancy at wetherspoons.The place was busy but the service was pleasant and quite quick.We had the Gourmet hot dog meals they ere lovely and we left full and happy.

I've eaten in restaurants all over the world, I've paid incredibly horrendous prices and have had good and bad. I have had value for money and have been totally ripped off. In the end when it comes down to it what do you really want. I'm to old to keep up with the "joneses" I've been around to long and so this is why I've given this place my top tip, yes it's cheap and cheerful but at least you know what to expect, why pay ridiculous prices just to say " oh yes I've been there, you must try it dear" doesn't wash with me any more. Do yourself a favour and save yourself some money. Decent cheap pint as well. It's not rocket science, just common sense.

You can never grumble at the value for money at Wetherspoons. This was a visit on a match day and consequentially the time to get served was a little longer than normal. However the Tenessee burger was excellent washed down superbly with a pint.

My husband and I have Sunday lunch about twice a month. We find the meals good value, I find it great that I can have a child's Sunday dinner as an adult one is too big for me. A big plus for this place is MEGAN she clears the tables brings your food, She keeps the tables clean and clear at all times we can tell a difference when she is not there. The down sides are the seats in the booths really need re upholstering some are badly damaged with the filling coming out. Next I am disabled and it seems that because the general toilets are downstairs a good deal especially able men use this toilet they drip on the floor not nice, this toilet needs a good overall the toilet pan is very stained and dirty. We will still go for Sunday lunch in the future.

This public house was always a great pub to visit. Sadly over the last few months it's gone down hill. Not one seems to eat here, the no smoking policy outside is never enforced and the decor is very dirty. The pub is in need of a full refurbishment, it's dirty, full stop of cobwebs, and is not a nice place to visit.Tim, get your team in to have look and sort out.

The Silkstone Inn it fab for breakfast, we have eaten there on many occasions, excellent value! £1,50 for a sandwich and coffee, its cheaper than Gregg's!

The outside was a bit off putting with a lot of people just drinking and smoking.Inside looked OK, but the lighting was very low, making it hard to read the menu. Obviously at one time, a lot of thought had been put into the decor. Booths with unusual glass paneling, striking art work nice touches such as book shelves and large mirrors and well kept bar. The downstairs toilets were clean and well kept though the stair carpet had seen better days. Very busy even on a Tuesday afternoon. What lifted it out of the average was that the food was served quickly and was very well done at an excellent price with one free drink. Just as good value as MacDonalds but with better food. The service, which seemed to be one guy, was excellent. Kudos to the guy he worked really hard and kept the tables served and clean (if it was you on duty on Tues August 1st you deserve a bonus). The meals were large with plenty of extras, obviously not cordon bleu, but what can you expect at the price. I had an 8oz sirloin steak with chips and veg and didn't need another meal that day.My partner and daughter had burgers, (she got an extra portion of chicken breast in her burger free and her boyfriend had a burrito with shaved ribeye steak. Everyone was happy with their meals.I would go definitely go to Wetherspoons again, might look for a more salubrious setting next time but can't fault the food and service at The Silkstone Inn.

Busy town pub that's full of folk wanting a cheap pint. We've visited a few times and had food. It's always been ok can't complain. You get what you pay for. They offer a decent variety of value for money dishes and it's usually quite busy. Each day has a different special and you get plenty, there's no skimping on portion size.

I order a chicken southern fried wrap and it came cold when it was suppose to come hot chips where cold as well they where strips of chicken I order regularly and it comes hot but not today

Had a lovely large mixed grill here on the steak night with my husband and family, the offer included a drink of choice from the selection offered, the meals were cooked well and we dined in a pleasant town based pub.

Silkstone Inn is a nice back street pub in Barnsley. All ways busy no matter what time of day you are in. I go in for a breakfast and the service and customer service is good price wise it is not bad. I got my breakfast within 15 mins and it was busy as well. The seating is ok but could do with some minor improvements. The pub is well decorated with a nice open fire with a guard which is a good feature to the pub. Also like to mention the drinks offers are also good well worth visiting and family's are welcome as well.

Popped into this eatery for a light Sunday lunch and a drink. The menu is pretty much standard for all Wetherspoons and is quite varied. Ended up having a dessert instead which was enjoyable.

Soon after arriving in the area and after a long journey we were hungry and in need of food and a drink. We came across this place. Excellent meals , but we had to wait for a bit on meals coming but as the place was very busy this had to be expected. When we were there we studied the breakfast menu and decided to return next morning. My sister had a large breakfast which came with everything inc. two slices of toast and a drink and I had tropical fruit and greek yogurt with honey. It was a very generous portion inc. apple, banana melon pineapple and grapes. We enjoyed it so much we went back next morning for more of the same. It only came to around £8 which I thought was very good value indeed.

Chicken and rib combo is worth 6 out of 5 stars, pork just fell of the bone and sauce was beautiful. Colesaw wasnt the best but I dont like it much anywhere. Thanks weatherspoons loved every bite. Was smallest venue ive been in but didnt mind wasnt too loud like others

It's a Wetherspoons at the end of the day.... This particularestablishment has attracted more than it's fair share of drunkards and reprobates!! We tried to sit outside in the sunshine but had to move due to the swearing, smoke and drunken louts hanging about! This pub is quite nice inside, a typical drinkers Wetherspoons.

The Silkstone is one of my local pubs when visiting Barnsley for football match day drinks. The pub is a little cluttered in some areas with large settee seating making it awkward to manoeuvre around. The drinks are the cheapest in the town, and also the cheapest I have found in all the Wetherspoons pubs we have visited throughout the country. The Silkstone have a good selection of national beers, and many guest beers to choose from. This particular visit we tried their Large Breakfast which consisted of Fried eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, hash browns, mushroom, tomato, slices of toast, Excellent value and so tasty, felt a little piggish for consuming such an amount, “a Mans Breakfast”. The staffs are very efficient especially the bar staff, as it was match day and very busy we had very little time to wait to be served. Waiting time for our breakfast was about 15 minuets which was pretty good as the breakfast is cooked fresh after your order is placed.Only down side of the pub is the Men’s Toilets “dirty STAINED floor” the floor area of each individual urinal are stained with what appears to be residue from urine build-up, also the toilet stalls floor around the supports are stained, this is bad cleaning practises. This is so unlike any Wetherspoons pub we have visited for Toilet cleanness, Wetherspoons toilets are so immaculate well designed and spotlessly clean. All in all a great pub, great food and drinks at knock down prices well worth a visit

We normally call in the Wetherspoon Silkstone Inn when we travel to Barnsley, on a Wednesday when the midweek market is on.The pub has a good clientele when we have called, quite a lot of people having meals, but mainly people having a drink. Personally I would say the pub is a good place for a drink, & meet up with friends, be it that it does not appeal to us has a restaurant, but every one to their own.The pub normally has a good selection of real ales on, to which I like to try a few.One bad thing is that the toilets are down a not very wide winding staircase in the basement, so anyone who carries a bit of weight or bad on their legs, will find this a obstacle. ( There is a disabled toilet in the pub, in the public seating area. )

We usually go for toast and coffee and a Saturday morning and have no complaints.The staff are always helpful and cheery and the coffee fresh.It's a Wetherspoons pub so you know your getting consistancy if not gourmet.What makes the Silkstone a cut above are the staff.

Always had a soft spot for this place as it opened the day before my (30th??) birthday, and visited here on opening night. Pretty much always have a nice meal here, although it is pretty much the same as every other Wetherspoon in this respect. The actual setting itself is lovely and yes of course there can be the odd less than savoury character but usually no trouble at all and they keep themselves to themselves. Again the beer (obviously one of the main attractions of any Wetherspoon) is pretty standard fare for the chain, but always enjoy coming into The Silkstone Inn for this reason. Always plenty of choice of ale, friendly staff and an ambient atmosphere (including the cosy open log burner) always make for a relaxed evening.

Never been in this pub until today. Born & bred in Barnsley but now moved away so nice to go back and catch up now & again. Visited just before 11am. Drinks cheap as expected and in a very nice atmosphere. Decorations very nice - can tell what it is (a Wetherspoons) but nice touches with a wood burner in the middle of the pub, nice seating, tasteful decor etc. A pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. I didn't eat so can't comment on that aspect. Reading the reviews however, some observations - sparklewhizz - most of the seating was ripped. Really ? MOST of it or just wear and tear where you were situated ? Or did you take it upon yourself to inspect every bit of fabric in the place ??! Other comments - no toilet roll ? Just ask..... Pub full of down & outs ?? Opinion & criteria of down & out please ?? You go into a pub. It has drinkers in it. Who have paid their due and their bar bill. And I presume are acting in a responsible manner otherwise they would have been refused service. Hence does 'down and out' equate to 'not my kind of people' ?? If so then surely it's the poster that has the issue - not others... On to my biggest moan - the outside is 'full of cigarettte buts'. Yes, I do smoke. I used to greatly enjoy a smoke inside a pub but adhered to the law with no problem when we were 'forced' outside. Not a problem. To allow non-smokers a nice atmosphere to dine in. So what do they now do ?? Complain that the area allocated to the smoking masses is 'dirty'. We are only there because you wanted it that way !!!! You have the lovely clean smoke free inside now - leave us alone and enjoy it - you wanted it !!!!!!! As a sidenote - dogs need walking - not sitting outside pubs on an afternoon. Sigh... Anyway - to sum up - you know what to expect and you get it here in a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff. Downsides ? 4 fruit machines flashing away at you that look totally out of place. I get these are big profit makers but unsightly. But see the profit margin will ultimately keep the prices down. Recommended. It is what it is. And it does it well.
