Our meal was lovely, lovely staff but to have dogs in the eating area. We love animals but the loud barking and wet dog smell from a dog sat at side of our table was a no no, really put us off our food..I understand its a dog friendly pub but they should be areas for dogs and it's not in the eating area..

We booked the Milton Arms for an evening meal having not visited since the last owners left. We were expecting a refurbished dining area but were disappointed to find still old tables and chairs spaced around the edges of the room not being very comfortable. The bar had been extended taking more room up in the bar area but we could not see any improvement for diners comfort. We did not see the garden room having decided diners had taken dogs in with them. Under the last owners the pub had kept its traditional feel but was always sparkling clean and welcoming to eat a meal. We didn’t feel this yesterday evening. However the staff were very friendly and helpful and we did enjoy our food. The only reason we wouldn’t book again is because of the lack of diners comfort, the ‘restaurant side’ needs updating if you want to call it a restaurant.

After a very long and tiring drive, dad and I just wanted a plate of honest, hearty food. I had read about The Milton Arms in advance, and we opted for the homemade steak pie, mushy peas, thick cut chips and gravy. Boy, didn’t hit the spot! 🤤🤤🤤 Full marks!

I went to the Milton last night, for the first time in a long time, knowing the place was under new management. I ordered a drink and after a few sips I came to the conclusion that the syrup for the lemonade was gone, working in pubs myself I knew this was the case, a waitress (short girl lovely long hair) came into the room I was sat at and I brought it up to her. She took the drink and said she would rectify it. Then she came back a few moments later and said that the General Manager said he wouldn’t “renew” the drink and that I had to buy a completely new one. Not ideal considering it’s not my duty to make sure the lemonade and other postmix syrups are functioning. Anyway we got another drink and moved tables. The room we entered was cluttered with cups, glasses, wrappers and all sorts of other mess on quite a lot of tables. Another waitress then was wandering around clearing up and she missed a wrapper hidden behind a menu, so i mentioned it thinking I was being helpful, being a server I thought this was a nice thing to do. I said “oh you’ve missed a wrapper in that table” and to my surprise I was met with the response “clean it yourself” and I was taken aback because I couldn’t think what I’d done wrong. Maybe I’d stuck a nerve? Maybe customer service just isn’t something the Milton values anymore. Sad to see because in the past there were a great staff team, but seems to have gone downhill … won’t be going again sadly.

The Milton was always our go to for a great Sunday lunch, but sadly this visit will be our last. We have been to the Milton, mostly on a Sunday for the past four or five years and have always recommended it to others. However it has changed hands and I’m afraid has really gone downhill. Despite booking, we were squashed onto a small dog friendly table with our two dogs, when we asked if there was a bigger table, more at the edge of the room as one of our dogs was reactive, we were told they were fully booked (we were the only ones in at this point) fifteen minutes later a small group of people arrived, they hadn’t booked, but were shown to a large corner table with their dog. When I asked why they had been given that table and we were told it wasn’t available, the ‘manager’? told me the staff member must have been mistaken about being fully booked! No one else turned up for another hour, just as we were leaving! Now let’s get on to the food, it was so disappointing, we had brought my mum as a special treat as she hardly goes out and we had convinced her telling her the food is always lovely. The beef was practically inedible, some pieces were so chewy even the dogs struggled with it. Mum and myself managed half of one slice each. The roast potatoes were dry and the parsnips were hard. Absolutely gutted, the search begins again for a dog friendly pub serving a decent Sunday roast

Came for a birthday meal. Sunday dinner was overpriced and not very filling. Beef was very fatty. Dinner came with leeks , a Yorkshire pudding , 1 carrot , 1 parsnip , 1 stem of broccoli, 1 roast potato and a bit of mash that was really claggy. The leeks and Yorkshire pudding were ok. Would be better if there was more on your plate such as more roast potatoes and even some stuffing. Drink isn’t a bad price.

We decided upon a mid-week meal and were happy that we could book on-line very easily. It was also a real positive to see the mid-week meal offer at £10-£12 including drinks. The service was very good and the food arrived promptly. The two pasta dishes were substantial, delicious and very rich. The sage was a little over-bearing and it could easily be seen why it my not be to everyone’s taste. The homemade sausage was quite the surprise when it arrived (see picture! 😳) but certainly tasted much better than it looked on the plate. Another very rich meal that certainly needed some vegetables to soften the blow somewhat. Overall very good and we’d certainly go back.

Enjoyed our Wednesday lunch having visited for the first time. Two areas had lovely fires burning in the grates and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We liked the amount of effort which has obviously been put into the decor, something interesting to see in all directions. The staff were friendly and attentive. The general menu is interesting and varied with the addition of a "Specials of the day" menu. Drinks can be bought at the bar or ordered with food and brought to the table. We all enjoyed our main meals very much (Sea bream & baby clams Special, Steak Pie and Venison Burger & black pudding Special), the desserts were fine but a bit uninspiring. Two of us agreed that the Apple crumble from the Specials menu was rather bland with some of the apple undercooked but the Sticky toffee pudding was well received. (The only other options were Choc Brownie or Cheese board.) The toilets are clean and tidy. All in all a very nice experience but will probably skip desserts next time unless there's something a bit more exciting on offer.
