Lovely place, friendly staff. My party's food was good in general but I just wasn't impressed with mine. I had the meat and potato stew. It came with chips, peas and a puff pastry lid but the dish itself was just a bowl of gravy filled almost to the brim. The gravy was tasty but I had to use my desert spoon to drink up the liquid. It just wasn't a stew as such, plenty of meat and potato at the bottom but just not what I was expecting.

Was walking by so went for a quick drink. It's always been a pleasant pub but due to the former keeper not allowing children, I haven't been in years. Nice front of house but it appears to be geared up for food not drinks. Even the bill for the drinks was paid after we had them and were leaving. Will go back and try the food next time. Ample and free parking and a stoll from the trans pennine trail.

Lovely pub out in the Barnsley country side. A very popular pub and so would recommend. Had cod loins which was really tasty. Went for Sunday lunch with 17 family members aged from 3 to 65 and wow what a wonderful time we all had. I arranged a birthday surprise for my husband’s special birthday and Eden sorted everything out beforehand for me, including a few little surprises along the way. Looking after us at the meal yesterday was Zoe (who couldn’t do enough to ensure we had everything we needed), along with Hannah who was really helpful with the surprises I had asked about, Laura, and Bryony organising the food and Noah our drinks. Georgia was a superstar looking after us as our host, and helping me when I moved from the table. The food was absolutely superb, presented very beautifully and it tasted wonderful. Starters ranging from Scallops, Arancini, filo parcel and more, mains were beef, chicken, gammon, lamb all with the usual trimmings and fantastic vegetables all cooked to perfection. To finish we had chocolate brownies, delice- loved every mouthful!!, blondie and an amazing sticky toffee pudding! The staff throughout were excellent, catering to all our requests even though the restaurant was extremely busy. My whole party were impressed by the food and service we received. Thanks to all involved

Went last weekend for 30th birthday cream tea and absolutely gutted was so disappointing. Absolutely no flavours to it. The cakes were so try the rice pudding rice was hard. It was expensive for what you got. I couldn't believe it had 1 chicken goujoin and cheap smiley faces. Cheap carton milk shakes and one of the item was ABIT of boiled plain pasta in a small saucepan. Really was a disappointment plus made the booking for 5 and brought out enough for 4 people so had to sit and wait. Then unknown to us you had to ask for the hot drink that went with it. Staff tried there best but food quality absolutely terrible for price. Shocking was really disappointed

I recently visited for a Sunday lunch, hoping for a hearty and satisfying meal, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. The ambiance was pleasant enough, with a cozy setting that promised a comforting meal, but the food itself was a major letdown. The most glaring issue was the roast beef, which is often the star of a traditional Sunday lunch. Instead of a succulent, flavorful cut of meat, what was served resembled sandwich meat—thin, lackluster slices that lacked any real substance or depth of flavor. The beef was dry and overcooked, with none of the tenderness or richness one would expect from a proper roast. It was as if the kitchen had simply reheated pre-packaged deli meat, which was a huge disappointment. The sides didn’t do much to salvage the meal either. The vegetables were bland and seemed to have been sitting out for too long, losing their freshness and appeal. The potatoes, which should have been crisp and golden, were instead soft and greasy, devoid of any crispiness or seasoning. I certainly won’t be visiting again.

The food was truly awful. It was clearly straight out of a packet. The burger was frozen, there was supposed to be mozzarella on the burger but it was more like squeezy cheese. The heirloom tomato salad was bland and there were no heirloom tomatoes in it, clearly they don’t know what a heirloom tomato is, the chicken was dry, the salmon over cooked, the risotto looked like soup (we didn’t have it but the person at the table next to us said it was bad), the Parmesan on the chips was the plasticky stuff from a shaker. It was all so disgusting, and to make it worse, it comes with a price tag. Sooo overpriced. The only saving grace was that the views are lovely and the staff were nice. But if you like freshly made food, I would avoid this place!

Early evening dine. People with kid wandering around playing electronic toy was annoying whilst trying to enjoy night out. Waitress liberally spraying tables like it was McDonalds, necessary but could be discreet. My chair almost in doorway of dining area, chairs uncomfortable, tables sticky. Waitress very good, polite, smile and attentive thank you. Food over priced and underwhelming. Risotto like baby food, sirloin steak cooked correctly but rest of plate was generally dull, rocket salad limp, mushrooms just an addition rather than a delicious accompaniment, chunky chips poor, try twice cooked with a bit of crispness and a little salad maybe? Cutlery poor quality, couldnt cut spring onions, steak or chicken easily. Chicken was good. £27 for a sirloin (£32 for fillet)when everything else was dull as dishwater, better in a lorry drivers cafe! Price is extortionate as was the price for starters and dessert at £9......come on! Menu is limited for vegetarians and limited overall. Bill was £100 plus tip just for 3 mains and a few drinks...I have been to Strafford arms 3 times. First time was OK so went again, second time service appalling, was virtually ignored despite 3 people behind bar. Food was average. 1 year later gave it another go......absolute rubbish never again. Over priced over rated, underwhelming!

Had Sunday lunch. The pork loin wasn’t loin it was two slices of fatty pork off a joint. The roast potatoes of which we got two were well done and empty inside. The veg, carrots, baby sweet corn, mange two , green beans and cabbage were disgusting, hard as rock and cold. I like al dente veg but it wasn’t cooked or prepared correctly. Yorkshire puddings were big but unfulfilling and the stuffing was about the best thing on the plate. My father’s beef was rare, tough and extremely thin slices, of which there were two. It’s such a shame as the staff were friendly and attentive and the service was good. The actual pub is lovely with a nice atmosphere so it’s such a shame the food is so poor. Won’t be going again. Came here for afternoon tea for a special occasion. I wrote to them prior my booking and asked if they could cater for one vegetarian for a afternoon tea to which they replied "yes of course, just write your request in the notes when booking". So that is exactly what I did, we turned up on the day to be served meat (well a flat cold sausage roll and some duck paste on some bread I think) . I asked which side was the vegetarian and they told me that they had no idea of my request, they said that the kitchen staff doesn't read the notes ! Really great thanks! 25 quid each for a piece of cold sausage roll, a thimble of soup a small portion of fish and chips and what tasted like yesterday's stale cakes! Plus 8 pounds for 2 soft drinks! We were really looking forward to the themed ‘Alice in Wonderland’ afternoon tea. the food arrived and looked impressive, however there were more negatives than positives really - sadly. Despite it being a themed afternoon tea, there was nothing themed about it. Which was a shame. Secondly, I’m certain that the sweet treats weren’t home made. They tasted shop bought - which again was a shame. It was just ‘ok’ and we wanted a ‘wow’. It looked impressive but in reality was nothing special. The drinks weren’t nice. We were told that it was just blackcurrant with lemonade - which is a bit rubbish and backs up what I’m saying that the appearance is better than the actual quality. With a few simple changes it could be good and so I hope management take this on board.

At the end of October, four of us went to the Strafford Arm’s Viva Mexico themed night where we were promised Mexican Small Plates, Mexican Cocktails and live music with a mixture of English & Spanish songs. The food was exceptional with decent portion sizes (small plates definitely weren’t small! – just how we like them lol), the drinks were lovely (and flowing easily), the live music was heavily English biased but was still nice to have (although a little loud for some). We enjoyed; PULLED LIME & TEQUILA CHICKEN (GF) £9 – this was our favourite dish in terms of flavour, could have eaten another plate of this! FULLY LOADED NACHO FRIES (GF) £10 – another fave of ours, wow what a bowlful! Really enjoyed how much was on this plate, definitely filled us up. Didn’t spot the chips underneath all the nachos and toppings at first haha. SHREDDED LAMB SHOULDER EMPANADA, CHILLI SALSA £12 – a nice portion and spicy salsa was good, would have liked a little more filling? Won't be coming back until improvements, & we used to eat here at least once every 3 weeks.

We was refused a table when half of the restaurant was empty. Extremely rude, would not return. Even if they had bookings or an event, the manner in which we were spoke to and dismissed was not professional or enticing to return.

Always really enjoy coming here but it seems to be going downhill again like it did a few years ago , it’s such a shame , don’t think the new manager knows how to manage staff and customers

Fabulous afternoon tea with great service and ambiance. Delicious food served beautifully in a lovely setting . Only one complaint we were offered a children’s afternoon tea which contained less than an adults but were charged the same £22 . Would recommend and will be back .

Eat here quite a bit, enjoy it 9 times out of ten. Went for Sunday dinner today, I won't be doing that again. Tiny portion of meat, Bland gravy and poor mash *which is an extra charge as a side. Dare I say it I'd rather a Toby carvery Sunday lunch. The pub being so nice is relied on to make up for a few faults here, always thought the same..

Restaurant was cold, food was poor, service needs improvement. For starters the waitress simply said is this yours to my wife, we asked what it was and she showed us the plate. Then same question for second plate. Surely the waitress could just say who’s is the goats cheese? Clearly no training being given! Chicken satay starter luke warm but edible (not nice), other starters were good/ok. Main course beef was poor quality and cold, struggled to cut the fat off. Yorkshire pudding also cold. Had to pay extra for mash with Sunday dinner. But the insult to injury was being charged for extra Gravy that we were not ordered to try warm up the food because we’re were given cold meals. Paid the bill and left without desert as it was all so bad we didn’t want to risk it. Nobody ever asked if any of the food was ok, despite us seeing plenty of staff and it wasn’t particularly busy. If a place doesn’t do check backs on the food it’s because they don’t want to know! Sad as it’s a lovely place and could be so much better.

Amazing service, bryony was so nice. I have allergies that were noted and took on board, certain things had to be changed but nothing was too much trouble.

Lovey restaurant, food not so. The steak pie with puff pastry which we've had on numerous occasions, seems to have become a potato and gravy pie. 4 small pieces of steak in mine, only 2 pieces in my husbands meal.At £17.25 Really not worth it, please revert back to the previous ingredients.

Me and my family came here for my mother's 65th birthday on 20th of his month her birthday wasn't untill 21st its lovely food their was 8 of us intotal I alone spent £30.10 and that was on the 8oz rump stake a drink and a child's brownie desert. It's lovely food but the portion you get for the price isn't worth it £21 pound for a stake with about 10 chips and no pepper corn sauce wich you had to pay an extra £4.50 on top of the £21 most other restaurants don't charge extra for sauce,s you also got a large mushroom and some tomato,s and half a tree of green salad stuff. So for this reason me and my family won't be returning here too over priced for what you get very disappointed about not having pepper corn sauce with the stake also you don't sell strong bow darkfuries too that's also a disappointment too. Also the desert are way over priced £8 for a brownie And £3.50 for a child I'd rather pay £3.50 instead of £8. My star rating is me being generous And honest in my post I think that you're need to lower the prices of the food a bit and start to add sauces to the table free of charge and add pepper corn sauce to the stake and not over charge it as an extra iteam also add more chips too and ask people if they want mushroom,s to be added the plate too.

We’ve been visiting the Strafford Arms for the last 15 - 20 years. It’s a fabulous pub, but unfortunately, in our opinion, over the last year or so, the quality of the meals and the service has declined considerably. The meals we were presented with on our last visit were very poor and I doubt if we will be returning again until we hear better reviews. I’m sad to have to make theses comments, and I I hope this criticism will be acted upon constructively.

Had a very nice meal last weekend after visiting Wentworth castle. Both our meals were lovely and were served promptly by a very attentive waitress. We will hopefully visit again soon next time we’re in the area.

Fantastic for a celebration family lunch. Friendly, elegant atmosphere, and gorgeous food - the Sunday lunch menu was varied without being complicated and everything was cooked to perfection - tender roast beef, divine Yorkshire pud, and crisp baby veges. To start I had an outstanding white onion and celeriac veloute soup, which was simply magical - velvety, fragrant and divine. Highly recommended.

Visited before and never disappointed. Took my son for the Wonka afternoon tea. The place is lovely, real wood fire and decor make the atmosphere really cosy and welcoming. The staff really make the place, so friendly and clearly like their job and want to do a good job which is sometimes rare and really does make a difference. The afternoon tea savoury bits were lovely, with the right portion sizes and each very tasty (chips are the best!!). Some of the cakes were a little dry and some of the other teas I saw coming out looked a bit better with extra things on them but overall was really nice. Good selection of draft beers and wines. Overall - good location, lovely inside and staff are great. Will definitely be back soon!

Terrible tea !!! Overpriced, small portions, average quality, poorly cooked. Kids pizza ok, another few minutes in oven & they wunt av been, my croque monsieur, ( which ive had many times ) just awful, not toasted, cheddar cheese used shud av been bechamel sauce, just soggy bread, want even a bloomer, then the chilli, O MY GOD !!! £17 for the smallest portion uve ever seen, thats wen i questioned r meal, asked if it was a lite bite portion ? the young man & woman who wer serving went 2 check, came back with a no thats the £17 portion, i sed well no way am i paying £17 for that, it was like a aldi ready meal in size & quality, cheap & cheerful, they took it back 2 the kitchen on r request 2 make tbe portion larger with no extra charge, my hubby was offered a free drink, he was drinking coke, which he declined, it was about the £17 chilli not a free drink, the whole teatime meal was a awful experience that cost with 2 cokes & a J20 £70 !!! The chef never came 2 the table 2 enquire about r complaints, it was left 2 the 2 young staff members who wer out of there depth. Will not be returning, had better food elsewhere @ better prices, chef needs 2 skill up, cubley needs 2 rethink food prices. 👎👎👎
