Cubley Hall in Barnsley

We really enjoyed staying here and would do so again.

My wife and I went to Cubley Hall this afternoon for a few drinks and a bite to eat with my wifes sister. I ordered a double gin for my wife and the young lady asked if i wanted lemonade or tonic and i asked for tonic. However, when my wife tasted it it was soda. She returned to the bar and politely explained that I had been given a soda mixer instead of tonic and asked if they could change it to tonic. The young lady said I had asked for soda which was incorrect. However, she served another gin with tonic, i did notice her talking to other staff whilst serving my wife, she then said to my wife I will have to charge for it! My wife came back to tell me and as you can appreciate as I'd already paid £11 for the first one that had been served incorrectly so I wasn't going to pay again. Five minutes later we were approached at our table by a stern faced lady who said that the drink needed to be paid for. I said we shouldn't have to pay again as it was a mistake made by her staff. She then walked off. It did make my wife feel uncomfortable particularly as staff kept looking across at us. But we decided to stay particularly as we'd planned to eat. I then went to order food and the stern faced lady decided to take issue again in front of her staff and a queue of customers and said 'next time don't make out my staff are liars'! I didnt retaliate or cause a scene. Why she couldn't just let it go I dont know! Very unprofessional and bad attitude. Mistakes happen and the staff were young and inexperienced which is fine. Maybe she'd had a bad day but there's no need for it. Wont be going there again.

Went for a spot of lunch after the place had been recommended by friends who'd gotten married there. Service, food, location was exceptional and only go if you're hungry as the portions are extremely healthy...... but worth it 😘👌

Went for Sunday dinner. Had a nice time and some of the food was nice. But… Roast beef was seriously underdone. Only served with mash (no roast). Stuffing was packet stuffing and just a small ball of it. Pizza was wet! Had to have another cooked. Main problem is the service. Everyone’s nice enough but you don’t feel like you have anyone taking care of you, and the prices are quite high. We had finished plates on table for way too long… no one came to see if we were happy with food. Overall disappointing.

Food poor. Cheesy garlic bread had uncooked dough. Soup of the day bland. Supposedly home made leek tart tasted farm food frozen and thrown in microwave. Frozen peas undercooked - and that takes some doing! Beer selection looks good, although I wasn't drinking. Service was good. Staff are very pleasant. They didn't seem at all surprised that my partner and I didn't finish any of our meals. Table behind us also left most of their meal. Perhaps worth visiting for a pint, but not for food.

Attended an evening reception. The Barn was beautiful. Buffet food was great! The sausage rolls were best ever. Hope we get opportunity to go visit again.

It was good but at 2am it got really noisy.

We ended up getting stranded in Penistone for the evening because of a flat. Laura and everyone at Cubley Hall were so nice and patient with two tourist, who at the last minute, needed a room for the night.

Moved to Penistone and was just going to have a drink. Saw a meat and potato pie go past me. Though fully booked an event was finished, so we were able to sit in that area once the tables were cleared. Fabulous tasting pie, very substantial. Substituted my chips for salad, and it was a big portion including yellow peppers, onion, spinach, lambs lettuce. Staff professional and efficient. Will try the carvery after Christmas.

A real gem, perfect for my needs - a big thank you to Catherine and Laura for taking such good care of me. Rooms are comfortable and clean, the food is like home and the welcome is warm.

I’ve been going to Curley hall for years and have had some very good food but fear that they have lost the plot at the moment. The specials board was limited to 3 items with at least one item sold out, a second choice of the main menu was also unavailable. The light bite lasagne was so light it had no pasta in it just sauce topped with cheese. The flapjack dessert was so hard it was inedible. The wine was undrinkable and over priced. The whole place was empty by 8.00 pm and breakfast was being set up around us. Such a shame!!

Had the Cubley Hall burger. Was quite nice with homemade chips and not a bad price at £15. Staff very nice also.

Booked table for 15:30 Sunday, place was empty but we could only sit next to the exit door which was draughty! Menu was thin to say the least but we ordered the roast beef Sunday lunch, the beef was processed and factory sliced so it had no taste and was tough, the spuds were elderly, the plate was covered in carrots and broccoli, the Yorkshire was rubbery ( that’s NOT Chinese!!)……..I would not advise anyone to go there! I used to come here regular but the place has lost its soul, it’s like a motorway service station, not the class place it used to be…….we will NOT darken its doors again

My Husband and I got married at Cubley Hall 22 years ago after falling in love with everything about it. It has been our go to for 'date nights' since then, numerous times a year' and we always return to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Went last weekend for a meal. The staff were amazing as always, the food was nice, but the prices have increased so much, especially for what you get. A plain burger and chips was £15.50 and my Husbands face was a picture when the lovely waitress brought him his £7.95 halloumi fries starter. There were 4 pieces on a bed of salad. Also to add, very disappointed they've taken my favourite starter of pizza based garlic bread completely off the menu. It cost us £50 for 2 mains and 2 starters, without drinks. This used to be a good priced night out, not anymore

Stayed for our Daughters wedding that was held in the barn. I cant say enough positive things in this short space. The hotel was fabulous. Rooms spotless and comfortable, the food was wonderful too, but it was the staff that made it the perfect stay. Every single person from bar to kitchen, cleaners to maintainance were professional and friendly and really couldn't do enough for us.The wedding was perfect thanks to Sandra .. her professional, friendly approach meant we didn't worry about a thing! The kitchen staff were amazing and helped rescue our cake so thank you again! It was a perfect day for us all and I would recommend this Venue to anyone wanting any celebration. 5 stars all the way. A huge thank you again 🫶

Called for tea against my better judgement as food has always been not great. It wad awful. It literally looked like it had been tipped out of the bin It was awful and cold. The sharing platter was disgraceful. If this is a chef that is prepared to send meals out like that they should be embarrassed.

A beautiful setting and lovely outside play area for children but that’s where it stops. We went for Sunday lunch & the food was terrible. The turkey was surely out of a bag and tasted like water, served with dry stuffing, a small Yorkshire pudding, a couple of broccoli florets and a few carrots. The only saving Grace was the mash which was edible. At £17 each it was a rip off and I wasn’t surprised to see lots of vacant tables. We had 2 children with us who had kids meals with free ice cream. No one came to ask about the ice cream and we had to pay for two in the end. Instead of eating here take a 20 minute drive to The Wisewood Inn Sheffield and spend £11 on a superb Sunday roast, in a lovely pub. Cubley Hall you were disappointing and we will not be booking lunch there anytime soon.

Dropped in for lunch today. I am coeliac and often struggle finding places suitable to eat but the staff were really friendly and informative and lunch was amazing! A youngish blonde waitress served us (I’m so sorry I didn’t get your name) and she was so lovely and was really kind about me asking allergen questions. They don’t polish cutlery with vinegar in the water (which is something I always ask as that can make me poorly) and they told me they have a separate fryer for chips/non gluten items so I was able to enjoy the most awesome chips! We sat outside and ate with the gorgeous views and overall it was just an awesome experience. Thank you! We will deffo be going back!

VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH MEAL.Ok it was only cubley burger and chips but the presentation on the plate was disgusting.The chips were hung over the side of the mini tin bucket drenched in grease or oil.The bread was dry.If I was the chef I would have been embarrassed sending food out of this quality.Me and my wife travelling a reasonable distance to have our lunch here.The barmaid stroke waiter never asked us how our meals were or asked us if we wanted any more drinks.so after leaving our meals and shoving them into the middle of the table and waiting for ten minutes we decided to leave.Me and my wife have never encountered such poor food and service for a very long while.And will not be visiting this place again.And don't give me the sorry story and you should have gone to the bar to complain?.How the chef can send food out of that standard and the waiter can serve it is embarrassing.This was at 1.15pm with the room not even a quarter full.Thanx cubley hall for spoilling our afternoon out.What a shambles!!!!!.

We had our wedding at Cubley at the end of July. It is such a beautiful venue both inside and outside. Sandra who is the events coordinator went over and above and kept us on track leading up to the day and she and her team made sure our day ran smoothly without us having to put any thought into anything at all. The food was superb. Lots of different dietary requirements catered for. I am vegetarian and we had some vegan guests, the v/vg food was delicious - you could tell it was not an afterthought, as it sometimes is at weddings. Breakfast the following morning was also delicious. The hotel rooms were clean, modern, and spacious, the pictures on the website do not do them justice. They are also very affordable! We could not be happier that we chose Cubley for our wedding day.

As locals we have visited this venue for over 40 years. It has provided a welcoming, well-balanced eating and drinking atmosphere and an enjoyable family experience which is only rarely seen these days.

Beautiful view from hotel garden...... But this time it was not good. Food was bland, was told it was a new menu and new chef. Our room over looked a little play area and also had a building that had fans all night long on. Couldn't have window open at all because of noise. But the main complaint was the toilet was locked by previous guests putting toys etc down loo. At 6.00am in morning we could not use toilet as it was about to flood over. They did come out and unlock it and gave us another key to another room to use. But it spoilt our stay. No apologies were really given. Will never go back.

Booked for evening meal after recommended by friends. Food was delicious, seafood pasta was 👌 highly recommend if you like fish, hubby had scampi, both good portions and freshly prepared. Only criticism is the seating, we booked a table and was sat in the conservatory in a booth, seating was low and uncomfortable. Overall a great evening.

having no overnight stay in the hotel we had evening meal and breakfast. I have to say I couldn't find a fault with the food. the pub and restaurants area is immaculately clean. reviews from the conservatory pretty amazing all in all a good place to eat.

Originally booked for Sunday Carvery but cancelled for some reason However they contacted me letting me know and told me we could still have food off the menu in the bar. Small menu but enough variety, so had roast beef dinner. Very nice, others had burgers etc. All delicious Must add all the staff were very polite, smiling, chatty and extremely helpful Definitely go back again

Today was the first time I had been out for a meal since March due to the Covid situation. I went with my sister who also hadn't been out at all. At the door there was someone to take your contact details and we were shown to our seat and given paper menus. Also a tag which was green on one side and red on the other. If we wanted service we were to show the green side and if we didn't we had to show the red side. My sister had a steak and caramelised onion panini with chips and salad and I had lasagne with chips and salad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and can't wait to return again. Stayed here a time or two now. The food is excellent at all times of the day. Nice grounds to wander in, plenty of car parking too. Staff always helpful. Janine is my favourite though!

Came here on an impromptu lunch date with my other half. Cubley Hall i s our go to place and again, the food/drink did not disappoint. Despite a mix up with the menu, the food served was quick, hot, fresh and delicious. My partner had San Miguel and I had Black Sheep, both of which were very good pints. Had a pizza this time, and a lasagne the time before at the end of last year.Pizza tastes the same as it did many years ago, which is good news I've always liked their pizza. Lasagne is the same story. Both tasty. Homemade chips are the real deal though. Staff are still not very friendly, despite new faces.

We booked for a night away just before Christmas, although the room was comfatable it was dated, the bath was far to high as though it had been put up on bricks. Creaked shocking thought I was going to go through the ceiling! Evening meal turkey pie the crust was rock hard and dry the filling quite tasteless. Breakfast in the morning was nice but disappointed I had to ask for a jug of milk to go with my pot of tea, was told there's a large jug up on the top table! Wrong answer, one was brought for me. Large portions for breakfast and nicely cooked. The conservatory was cold how ever both evening and morning may be look to put the heating on for guests that are staying the night.

So me and my wife got married here October 5th, from the bar staff to our amazing wedding planner to the fantastic house DJ, the build up was amazing, Sandra was the star by organising us every hour, telling us where to go what to do, everyone has said how good the wedding was, not just by my other half but by Sandra through the day and the DJ at the night time. Well worth every ounce of stress which made me feel at ease once I’d been settled down. This lady is amazing, if you choose to get married here then you’ll be at proper ease with these guys..thankyou once again..we all love you

I was so looking forward to the evening a drink and a meal so we booked in advance.When we got there they had no recollection of our booking and we were left stood like lemons for ten minutes.The staff didn’t know what to do .

We held a surprise 50th birthday party on the 20th of September in the barn at Cubley hall. Now what can I say but exceptional location and the staff went above and beyond on the day and before the event. Communication was very good and efficient with Sandra the events manager . She did her best to accommodate our needs. On the day , from the time we were decorating the room, we had Sandra at hand if we needed anything and John helped a lot with the ladders and anything else we needed. He was brilliant. On the evening we has Josh and another John who were absolutely great , nothing was too much for them. Hats off the the chef and kitchen staff who produced a tasty meal, the jerk chicken and chilli were a hit .We are so so grateful and will definitely come back.

Took family for a meal which all 4 enjoyed. I had seafood pasta which had little or no seafood and was overwhelmed by tomato. Spoke to member of staff who offered a drink which I declined, then asked if I had paid which I said I had and she left and never returned. Been eating there for 20 years and the meal was easily the worse I've had but service response. Disappointing.

We have stayed here once before and coincidently was given the same room (6). It's quite small with lots of pine furniture - probably could do with less so you could move around better! The bathroom is well equipped with toiletries supplied. Good selection of teas and coffees in the room with a nice bonus of biscuits. The bed was much more comfortable this time and a nice new carpet. The breakfast was cooked to order and very nice - there was a buffet with tea coffee, cereals and dried prunes and dried apricots - would have liked a small fruit salad and yoghurt on offer! The staff were very nice and helpful. They found us a room that was ready when we arrived at 11.30 and we were able to check in and get changed much earlier than check in time - very good. Drinks are reasonably priced.

I choose Cubley Hall as it was just an hour away from our home and the setting looked perfect for our special weekend away. When we arrived we were surprised to find out they had upgraded our room to the Four poster room. The room was gorgeous, spacious and very nicely decorated with lovely furnishings and colours. They were having their 1st Summer bbq with live music (who were fab and performed on the pavilion in the garden, which are also used for outdoor weddings) a lovely bbq and some entertainment for all, the views from the lovely gardens was breathtaking, we had a lovely evening meal and the hotel was very busy mostly with guests at the party and a private function in a separate room. The staff are very friendly and made us very welcome and to top of a great weekend we had an excellent breakfast in the conservatory, we were lucky the weather was dry and sunny. Highly recommend this hotel and it’s wonderful setting 5 minutes away from the town of Penistone. We will visit again.

I stayed at Cubley Hall for several days and nights during a recent tour and dined in the restaurant several times. The food was excellent! One salmon and grilled veggies dish was so incredibly delicious I ordered it a few more times over the course of our stay. The deserts are divine. My friends and I ordered their vegan fudge cake desert a few times. It was heaven on a plate, and beautifully presented. The restaurant and surrounding property are comfortable and the views are gorgeous. Highly recommend this establishment!
