Edit: April 2024 Its not going well is it? Constantly running out of beer, regulars leaving, food sometimes on even the darts team has relocated! If you're trying to close it you're doing a grand job!! What a shame! And whats with a massive piano in the bar?? Just takes up valuable seating space of which there was little to begin with! Whole situation reeks of a vanity project! Gents toilet radiator, I foresee a claim one day! (See pic)

Didn't have food but the atmosphere was good

Loved the decor in this place, lots of artefacts from the silk industry in Macclesfield. Sadly the beer was lacking in flavour 😕

Went here for some food and a drink with my partner for our first time. My partner wanted to leave after 10 minutes, rowdy, scruffy, loud men everywhere, all stunk of weed, swearing in front of kids. There was nowhere to sit where you could avoid these, no separate area for customers to eat. Drunk guys kept bothering us so we ended up leaving to go elsewhere before ordering a thing.

10/11/23: waited for 15 minutes after opening time, then gave up. No sight of anyone inside.

Hadn't been for a while so thought we'd go back. Definitely won't be going again. It used to be a lovely pub. Regulars always sat at the bar. Always had a friendly atmosphere. NOT any more . Tables were dirty empty glasses everywhere. Ashtrays dirty and all over tables, the whole place just had a dirty unclean feeling to it . Made you feel uncomfortable. We quickly finished our drink & left. Went to the other pub bit further up. Got to say the whole thing upset me as I used to work there. It was such a lovely place. So come on the new landlord get it sorted

the guy on the bar didn’t give us a glass of water, IN THE HEATWAVE, after we offered to even buy a drink as he complained he had to wash the glasses. unhappy, not coming again.

Had some very nice panini for tea. Beer choice is Robinsons they had Dizzy Blonde Trooper and Unicorn. Both sports matches shown yesterday Sunday. Prices were reasonable.

We came here for Sunday lunch and ended up with 2 for £10 pannis and a huge pile of fries, not quite the lunch we were looking for. However, the service was pleasant and the atmosphere was nice, and so were the locals and their dogs

Best Pub you could go to in Macclesfield! 10/10 would recommend to anyone going out for the first time!

Stopped at Macclesfield and decided to eat at the silk trader. Lovely hot and tasty food at a very reasonable price. Bar staff/owner very friendly and professional. Great variety of spirits. Thank you

A great venue. Trooper on tap which is tremendous. The staff are excellent and the atmosphere is casual. Great place to watch the football. Food was also very good. They catered for our large family gathering with no hassles and looked after us very well.

Nice relaxed and welcoming pub with a bit of everything. They have nice food on their menu, and a beer garden for the summer. There are a couple of televisions for football and other sports and a pool table.

Popped in for Sunday lunch before heading back home (4 hour drive). Two roast beef, one roast chicken and a vegetarian meal. All EXCELLENT. Great welcome. Fantastic food. Brilliant staff. Couldn’t fault it at all.

Persuaded my neighbour that we should try here after a recent successful visit to the Wharf. On the last 2 occasions I'd been in there had been a lot of noise and this time likewise with kids running around screaming at 8 in the evening.Barmaid friendly, although when she asked me what I wanted there was some kind of reaction alongside me, turns out a bloke sat at the bar was before me. She didn't know and I didn't know, awkward.The pub has Sky Sports and there was a group of lads congregating against the far wall of the room with the TV. You just couldn't go in and sit down, like the whole room was taken up!We ventured into the dining area which had a good ambience. Just one couple in this room and a bloke with a dog. I like dogs but in the restaurant area? You could still hear the kids and the mothers were moving around a lot, it didn't help the ambience.

Nice bar with three main areas to sit or eat in, all comfortable and clean, barman very effective and helpful. Food is OK, very large children's portions and good value, Well worth calling in and relaxing for a while

A slightly more upmarket pub for this end of Macclesfield with a reasonable outdoor space that catches some of the evening sun.

A great welcoming pub just a little walk from the town centre

Ate there twice last week. The food on both occasions was excellent a cut above normal pub food. Service and beer was also very good. Also joined in the Tuesday quiz.

Visited this s pub whilst on an away day to see Tranmere play Macclesfield. Pub is 1mile from the ground and I was able to park easily outside. The pub was welcoming with friendly staff. Decor was excellant creating a pleasant environment to watch the early kickoff game. Food was very good. I had the beer battered fish and chips which tasted fantastic. Overall a great place to go to watch sport and eat. I would definitely come back here.

A local pub to me but not my regular drinking haunt. Always delivers when have family guests with children - food is good value, decent quality and timely. Service is always exceptionally good - friendly, speedy, engaged and courteous. Caters really well for a wide variety of customers simultaneously - ie football watching, pool playing, family eating all comfortable at same time. Vegetarian choice is a bit limited.

I have been coming to this pub for a few months now and have to say this is one of the best in macclesfield. Fantastic atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and so are the locals who drink there. I found the food amazing, burgers are spot on, and the chips... delishious. Couldnt recommend this brilliant pub highly enough. Oh and also has a function room and large beer garden.

Stumbled on this place quite by accident and so glad we did! The decor is delightful honouring the silk trade heritage and the atmosphere is great genuinely enhanced by the friendly staff. We had 3 meals that could have fed 6 and the food was superb. Breaded halloumi, thai salads along with the more traditional offerings. Not a massive menu which confirms their fresh food and locally sourced produce statement. Rhubarb gin fevertree tonic, great ales and prosecco by the bottle. What's not to like?!

Nice small pub. Nice interior, clean and staff welcoming. The menu is small but has a great choice of food. All home cooked as far as im aware. Burger that i had was big but bland. Needed some homemade burger sauce and gherkins. Seasoned myself with salt and pepper. Even if the sauce and extras were on the side would of helped. Other than that was a pleasant meal. Would 100% call again.

Nice interior, and what looked to be a good selection of beer. The food was fine, but the menu was basically just burgers, and both of our choices were a bit dry.

Only popped in for coffee but was excellent coffee

Not a fan. Trooper was basically off. The place feels a bit sterile, very "copy-and-paste" and a bit chavvy. The service was very friendly though I feel sorry for the poor woman on by herself on a Saturday evening! Glasses and dirty tables everywhere. If you're here for real ales, there are plenty of better pubs. Probably better if your sole concern is getting trollied.

Good family pub, (well behaved) dogs welcome, beers good, staff are good and the food is good!

I rang the pub to check if was dog friendly, as I had been turned away by a garden centre quite close to the pub. The staff confirmed that they welcome customers with dogs. The reception myself, wife and our Jack Russell Max received from staff and customers was very welcoming, the service and quality of the food was very good, we have recommended the venue to friends, and will be returning with family, and of course we will be taking our dogs along for the ride.

Called in last night one New Years Eve with friends and family. Met Patrick and his wife (I assume the new landlords) and they looked after us very well. Drinks are good value, smart decor and nice atmosphere. And for the kids, they enjoyed the pool table. Would definitely recommend. We will be back 👍

Went here for a beer and food evening with friends. Service was friendly and helpful. Food very much average pub grub rather than restaurant or 'gastro-pub' with limited choice. Prices OK for basic pub food Beer good.

visiting family with 2 small children, one with various food intolerances. We were greeted warmly and shown to a good sized table. Ordering was simple - we just ordered at the bar and our food was served speedily. The roast beef came with a good selection of vegetables and a delicious Yorkshire pudding. My only reservation is that the vegetables were covered by quite a large serving of tinned peas, whilst this did not spoil our enjoyment of the meal, from a presentation point of view I would suggest a smaller serving of peas.
