Having been been here a couple of years previous while on holiday at 1 of the many campisite close by and enjoyed our meal so we suggested to our friends to book a table for a group of us while spending the Easter break on the caravan sites nearby WHAT A MISTAKE The meal turned up eventually with 2 carrots that was an inch long 1 sliver of roast parsnip that was very woody the meat was so thin you could see through it (and the beef my husband had was very very slimy) the rest of the vegetables were raw I've heard of aldente but they were in a different league altogether , . We won't be recommending this venue to anyone it was the worse Subday lunch we've ever eaten and that's saying something

We came here back in July for a Sunday roast, and it was amazing, so, thought that we would come back. As it was Good Friday, we thought it would be busy, so booked online, and managed to get a table for 4 people at 7pm. We arrived 10 minutes early, and the pub was empty, apart from 3 locals who live on the caravan park behind. They had a yappy dog that would start barking at any movement. We were shown our table which was a small table by the door. I wasn’t too happy being right by the door, so we were moved further into the pub. The waitress came and took our drinks order, 2 beers, a Bacardi and Coke, and a glass of Prosecco. She then came back saying that they don’t sell Prosecco by the glass, or small bottle, so my friend said she’d have a bottle. Back came the waitress with a bottle and a wine glass. Then she went back to get a metal bucket. My friend asked for a Prosecco glass, which was brought to the table, and after a long wait, so did the other 3 drinks. The food wasn’t anything great, I had ham egg and chips, the ham was lovely, the egg over cooked and the peas undercooked. When we finished, it took the waitress 15 minutes to come and take our plates, she then scraped the leftovers onto one plate in front of us! Disgusting! After a while, my friends husband went up to the landlady and asked for the Dessert menu, and was promptly told no, and that the kitchen would be closing soon! The ‘ice’ in my drink was more like frost. It tasted disgusting. We were pretty p****d off that we weren’t offered the Dessert menu, or coffees. With that, the waitress brought over the Bill, and we were charged £36 for the Prosecco! A bottle of the exact same would cost £10 in Sainsbury’s! The pub actually closed at 9pm. Apparently, the pub is for sale, I hope whoever purchases it makes a better job of it than you.

Long wait for sub par food. Beef was sliced so thin on my roast that I could see through it, vegetables were severely undercooked. Yorkshire’s and roast potatoes are decent. A friend in our group had to wait over an hour for food and was also told she never ordered, despite already paying for her meal at the same time as the rest of the party. Ordered myself a carrot cake from the menu, 20 minutes later I was told I must have misread and meant cheesecake, I hadn’t and didn’t. Cheesecake arrived and safe to say the worst cheesecake I’ve tasted, may as well have ordered cheese and crackers because that what it tasted like. Essentially a grim ploughman’s served with what was supposed to be ice cream, which looked like it had melted and been refrozen 18 times. Somehow it managed to foam as it melted into a clear puddle. The Staff were apologetic but overall very disappointed. Overpriced at £18 a roast for what was not a nice meal.

Came here Sunday 16th march. Booked for 4 people. We were seated promptly. We then waited to order drinks. Ordered a Guinness and waited to then being told they don't sell it, which is fine as had a great alternative. 3 ordered regular cokes. We then ordered 4 roasts. We then sat for 45 minutes whilst people got roast that had arrived after us. So we asked and we're told are order wasn't put through but they now would put it through. Then told the cauliflower cheese had sold out (wouldn't have if order was put through) then waited another 15 minutes before asking and told they would be with us shortly there just going through other orders... Which is crazy as ours should have been put to the front of que. Then the roasts came and were warm/cold at best. Really gutted as read the good reviews and purely chose this place for a roast on the assumption it was good. We were offered no apologies for the mistakes or discounts. It wasn't busy maybe 30% occupied. So there is no real excuse.

Booked a table for a Sunday roast. To start with the waitress came back 3 times as could not remember what larger they had so my husband just said he would have any. I ordered an orange juice..came back they didn't have any..ordered an apple juice....came back they didn't have any..ended up with an Appletise. The waitress then came back to us saying she could not take our food order as there is a backlog in the kitchen and could not advise how long this delay would be. We sat for a while and ended up paying for our drinks and left. Needless to say we won't be returning.

I have never been so disappointed, we have often said we would like to try the roasts here after popping in many times for a drink after a forest walk, I can honestly say it’s the worst roast dinner I have ever had, it was tasteless, the Yorkshire pudding was as hard as a rock and the gravy was stone cold, to top it off we asked for horseradish and happily put it all over my dinner to realise it was tarter sauce! It was honestly vile what a waste of money! I can honestly say I would never eat here again. AVOID AT ALL COST! (Also there were alot of very unhappy people getting up and walking out and people saying the food was not ok)

A great traditional English pub that serves lovely homecooked food, we had the Gammon, eggs, and chunky chips, and it was absolutely delicious! The pub is very welcoming with friendly and attentive staff. There is plenty of outside space, so when spring arrives, I am sure it will be a lovely place to sit and enjoy good food and a couple of drinks. It's certainly a place we will return to when we are next in the area.

We were staying at a local campsite so thought we would book a table here for a meal. No gluten free menu but was told anything with rice was ok, chips could be swapped out (as cooked in the same fryer). I ordered chicken curry which was delicious! My partner had a burger which he said was nice too. Service was slow but we weren’t in a hurry. We went back the following day for a drink and there were different people serving which seemed much more on the ball. Dog friendly too which was a bonus, just advise this when booking as you get sat in the bar (really comfy so no issues!) We would go back if we stayed in the area again.

Disappointing visit. The staff were friendly and the pub appeared clean. Dog friendly. However, the food we had was very overpriced for what it was. There was a small menu, which was not a problem, as I always believe the produce etc will be fresher. We both had the chicken curry. These were £17 each and served in a small bowl. For £17 I would not have expected chicken thigh to be used and the portion to be so small. Although tasty it was very watery (as you can see by the pictures). We were given a knife and fork each to eat it with. It came with 1 greasy thick popadam which was put on the top in a cone shape. So parts of these were soggy. This was a Christmas eve visit and it should have been better. We didn't chance pudding or coffee. My response to your reply: Mix the curry up??? This is exactly how it came, all we did was take the popadam off. I am not in the habit of lying or mixing things up. And as for coming back ... certainly not after your reply!

We have been enjoying the Silent Women hospitality with a smile and welcoming friendly conversation regularly over the past year . When weather fine we arrive on mountain bikes via the forest and enjoy a beer or two in the garden with nibbles. On wetter days, Friday evening or just popping in when passing we may have a light bite in the bar area or a meal in the restaurant, food always excellent and fresh. The pub is also very dog friendly too. Are even thinking of using the venue to tie the knot, as well as being licensed for the service they offer bespoke reception too.

Massively disappointed, As we arrived at the pub, i stated for a table for my partner and friends. We were immediately shuffled into the bar with all tables in the restaurant available but with reserved signs on at 7:45pm, I can only guess this was for Sunday lunch but what a welcoming way to host customers who dine on a Saturday night!! We were put in the corner and thrown some menus. When drinks came over I was told that there was no cider on draft and then followed on to be told they didn’t have corona either!! When being told the specials at the time of ordering I wanted the £27 steak which came with new potatoes, dispite being one of three tables I was told they can’t ever change to chips. Have you ever heard a pub do this with steaks/pies etc? My friend who had the steak was disappointed with the result and the burger was of a McDonald’s standard. Anyway, long story short but won’t be returning and basic grub with little effort. I guess the reason it’s called the silent women is because of the little atmosphere the pub gives.

Unfortunately this was a disaster from start to finish. We were seated by a server and we had a look at the menu, sadly this was nothing like the menu they offered online and was much more expensive than we had seen online. A party member didn’t like anything on the menu and asked if they could swap for a child’s menu and pay the difference which in return was snapped at by the server saying “absolutely not, no adult can eat the children’s menu”. We ordered some drinks and one was unavailable (which can’t be helped), when the drinks came they messed up two drinks orders, a beer was stale, the ice in peoples drinks tasted like mould and there was an insect floating in another. By this point we decided to pay and leave, very disappointed.

I have previously written an excellent review of this pub. Unfortunately, after this evenings meal this will be my final review as I will not be visiting there again. My wife and I went in for the chip shop Friday menu as we have on many previous occasions, although it is not a patch on what it was, this was however, explained to me by a member of the management and made perfect sense. As the chip shop menu was pretty sparce my wife ordered a burger from the main menu and I ordered the Haddock from the chip shop menu. When the food arrived I was given the Haddock from the main menu and was told I couldn't have the chip shop menu in the area of the pub I was sitting in (not mentioned when I ordered), despite having the chip shop menu in the same area many times before. When I went to pay I was charged from the main menu despite not ordering it and not being told of any issue. The only difference with my meal compared to the chip shop menu was Peas, so I was effectively charged £7 for a portion of Peas. Suffice to say, regular customer lost and bad review as above.

Sadly we had a very poor experience at this pub. The menu was very small with only a few choices. The waitress did read off a couple of specials, but because these weren't written down anywhere they are easily forgotten and the waitress just didn't reappear for ages to check. There is NO real children's menu, 2 choices plus a veggie choice, no sausages, fish, pizza.... very disappointing. It took well over an hour for our food to come and we were seated at 5.45pm at which point there was 1 table occupied. My food was dreadful, very plain and uninspiring burger with huge onion rings plonked inside it like a stack, you have to dismantle it to eat and it wasn't good. Hubby's sausages were mediocre. The children's meal were OK but they said they preferred everywhere else we had been this holiday (about 6 different meals out). It took another 30 minutes for the desserts to come (fudge cake) so overall we were there for 2.5 hours. The waitress was lovely, but young and inexperienced, she tried her best but there didn't appear to be anyone actually managing the staff. This place should be a gold mine situated where it is, but once you've been there you will never return.

After looking at their website and menu on their Facebook page we booked a table for 8 for the last night of our family holiday. (We should have checked reviews we usually do) We were shown to our table and drinks ordered as we reviewed the menus we did think where were the Stonebaked pizzas they advertised. (I found them advertised at £15 in a frame in the gents above the urinals🤷🏼‍♂️) The waitress took our order which included 3 Cumberland sausages and mash. About 20 minutes later she returned to say they only had one portion of Cumberland sausage so two of our group chose other meals. A while later she returned to say the had no sausages at all We waited waited over an hour after our order was taken for our meals, when a waitress approached a couple on the next table ,who were there when we arrived, to say “sorry for the delay but we have just had a large order” strange as the place was nearly empty (must be us). She never approached us with an update, an apology for the delay or to ask if we wanted more drinks. Eventually the food arrived and it was described by most as “okay” although my wife’s gammon was dry and chewy. When the bill arrived it had 10 meals on it (2 Cumberland sausages and mash) those removed we paid our bill and left, (nearly 2 and half hours for a single course) Normally we would have chased our order or mentioned our dissatisfaction but we just wanted a pleasant end to our holiday. The staff were polite and cheerful but only in a reactive way It’s a pretty pub so such a shame it’s let down by the delays and mediocre food.

Popped in for lunch while on holiday. 3 adults & 1 child. The child is Autistic and has ARFID, which means he has a very restricted diet. We always take his own food with him when we eat out. We order and the waitress says its fine for him to eat his packed lunch. 2 minutes later a man, who we assume was the manager, comes out to say he can't eat his own food. We explain his disability but he doesn't care. He tells us it's illegal for him to eat his own food - it's not (it is not illegal but the restaurant is there to sell its own food so can refuse you permission to consume your own food on the premises). We ended up cancelling our order and leaving the almost empty restaurant. We paid £10 for drinks, which we didn't drink, and our food order would have come to around £70 ( more if we'd had puddings) and he refused to see that he was refusing to make an adaptation, for someone with a disability (my grandson is registered as disabled) and just kept telling us it was against the law. This man was not just ignorant about invisible disabilities but came out aggressive and rude. I would avoid this place, like the plague, if you need any adaptations for special needs or support and care about those who have them.

I would avoid this place, like the plague, if you need any adaptations for special needs or support and care about those who have them

Our absolute favourite pub to visit when we're in Wareham. The staff are lovely, the house lager is a great price and excellent, and the food is exceptional. We are vegetarian/vegans and have tried several of the food options and they are all delicious! On a sunny day, the big garden is a treat! It is a family run, independent pub and well worth the walk or drive to visit. 10/10 from us always!

Not the first time we have visited this pub, or the first Sunday roast we have had but today’s was the best by far. Right away we were welcomed by the staff, as were our two dogs. Sometimes bringing the dogs to a pub, especially on a busy Sunday you can be made to feel like you are invading but we always get a warm welcome here. The beer is well kept and not too gassy, the food was superb. Sunday roasts, one lamb, one chicken between the two of us. They are very substantial (the dogs got lucky today with leftovers!) we were both stuffed! No one could be cross to be served food of that quality. Pub quiz on a Sunday as well, good chance to test our brain power. All in all a great evening to set ourselves up for a day on the beaches tomorrow!

We enjoyed a great pizza but it took a very long time to arrive. The place was really busy with Sunday lunch & there didn't seem to be enough staff. As we weren't in a hurry it wasn't a problem.

An absolute undiscovered GEM! Having stayed at a nearby campsite, we only went for a coffee & cake after a walk. After reading the menu though and mainly the warmest of welcomes by the charming and ever so personable staff, we ordered some of the deliciously sounding meals. These were an absolute revelation! Kids were forever astonished by their towering burgers and the flavours full of imagination we have found in the days specials were well worthy of a Michelin aspiring Chef! We will be definitely coming back for this delightful experience and dining! Thank you all at The Silent Woman!

After avoiding the Silent Woman for a few years as under the then new management the food had gone down hill badly, we thought we'd try it again as it looked to have changed hands again. I'm glad we did as we ordered Gammon,Egg and Chips and it was lovely, if anything the 4 large slices of Ham were too much but otherwise it was great, we will definitely be going back.

Recently stopped here after a walk with the dogs, had the chicken and chips in a box - the chips were awesome, could have done with a little salt to be perfect! The chicken was perfectly cooked with lovely crispy skin - but beware that the plain chicken is exactly that; not sure what I expected :-D So opt for the BBQ one of the two.

Historically I have eaten at this pub restaurant and has been great food and service. However, on this occassion although service was good the food was not. The food was bland and not value for money (£16 per main but in my opinion it was only worth £10-12 due to taste and quality) which is a shame. I was told they had staff shortages in the kitchen which may explain this. For this reason too there was only a restricted menu. I am hopeful they will work out their issues and quality of food will return.

We eat out a lot. This was quite possibly the worst pub restaurant we've ever eaten at. Trying to do bistro on a cafe budget is never going to work. Pizza has to be ordered separately and paid for in advance (comes from somewhere else?). If you want to change anything - forget it. Basic customer service starts by being accommodating. Ice cream? "Sorry no, you can have one or the other". And yes, I did offer to pay for it - even asked twice!

I gave 2 stars because to be fair service was good and the seats were comfortable and it was pleasant to sit there. Sadly that is where it ends. £17 for a burger…yes…you got 2 dry chicken breasts with some bacon and literally a sprinkle of cheese which I had to go routing around for and 2 onion rings. Sadly not up the standard that other restaurants are providing not even close. This was not even good pub grub!! I know independent business’ are having a hard time with costs etc but other business’ are providing better food similar price. The wifi was good though

Staying on local campsite until November so this would have been our local. But the price of a pint is totally unacceptable. £ 6.80 for a pint of Guinness. Some context at Weatherspoons £3.80 the national average is s around £5. £5.90 in Wareham. Now I know it’s a country pub and I have been a licensee for many years, but I for one won’t be returning. The place itself seemed a little dated but non the worse for that food I didn’t try. The service was great a warm and welcoming reception. It’s a real shame as now we have to make the trek into wareham to eat and drink. It just seems a little short sighted. I suppose they are working on the assumption that people are on holiday so not counting on returning customers.

We have been to this pub on a number of occasions but the last three times it has got worse & worse. There is no atmosphere - we were seated in a noisy bar (no one seated in the main restaurant) & served 'authentic' fish & chips in their paper! The fish was translucent in the middle as the batter had been cooked at high temperature leaving the inside undercooked and thechips were overcooked. However when we sent it back the 'chef' came out to tell us we were wrong as his probe said the fish was 85°. No apology - just a passive aggressive stance stating we were wrong. We left & won't be returning. The two waitresses who served us were friendly & professional - a pity what they served didn't meet the same standard! We will never go back again!

The staff at the CAMC campsite recommended The Silent Woman Inn, so we walk the 0.4 miles along the road (be aware there is no footpath). We called ahead of time just to ensure we had a table booked dinner for 2 adults and 1 dog. Note: Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, but there are tables in the bar area that can be booked and are more than suitable. The manager was really helpful and had reserved a table for us. The waitress did not write anything down and had to come back and check on a couple of items. The Fursty Ferret beer and the Sauvignon wine were very good. We ordered Fish & Chips which came wrapped in paper and the Coldharbour Stack (chicken burger) which was tasty, but the chicken could have been slightly larger as it was small. We would go back if we stayed at the same campsite.

We came here for a Sunday roast after a recommendation by a friend who had said it was one of the best roasts they’ve ever had! Two of our party asked if they could have a selection of meat rather than the standard 1 and the kitchen was happy to accommodate which was great. The roast was delicious and the meat was cooked perfectly. Even the beef was pink, which is just how we like it, not many pubs serve beef like this so we were very impressed. The roast came with a selection of vegetables which were all freshly cooked, a giant Yorkshire pudding and tasty gravy! We were served very quickly, and our meals came out in a timely manner too. I’d come back here again for a Sunday roast and recommend to friends!

We have a small group of people who travel around the south-west trying all the roasts to local pubs, restaurants and eateries, one of our members recommended this place so we came and we were definitely impressed with the Beef served medium rare and the lamb being so succulent and tasty, it did not disappoint! A few of us paid a supplement of £1.50 per meat to have the ability to have all meats in the roast beef gammon, lamb, and chicken and it was well worth it would definitely go again very good roast dinners. a very cute little quaint pub with fantastic food and great service highly recommend.

Was recommended by a friend. Looked at the menu on line, looked like a good selection. Booked a table for6.15 sat night. We got to the pub. The first thing you noticed, was it smelt like a damp dog in there. It was dark and unwelcoming. We were shown to our seat's by a guy. I take it he was the landlord. He looked like he had just slept in a hedge. We got to the table and tried yo look at the menu. There was four of us there, none of us could read the tiny writing. Also the menu was nothing like the menu on line,it also said you could pick something from the specials board, but as there was nothing on it. We couldn't really. We were already having second thoughts. But the scruffy guy eventually came over. We asked about food. He said they did half a chicken or chilli. We had to guess at the price!! We had already orderd drinks,so when the waitress came over. We asked about the menu and the price of the specials. We We're told the menu had chenged, but not botherd to change it on line. Also the chicken was £22!! At this point we totally gave up and decided to get the bill and leave. Just to add insult to injury i was charged £6.50 for a pint of Guinness. No wonder the pub was empty at 18.00 on a Saturday night.

Avoid the scotch egg, my husband took a bite and pulled out a big long dark hair. Manager was not in the least interested. Celebrating our daughter’s birthday as a family of 5. Poor service, scruffy disinterested servers, awful atmosphere, 7 main dishes not available on the menu on a Saturday evening at 7pm! After the scotch egg ‘hair’ we decided to pay for our wine and leave…went to The Bear where the service, food and atmosphere were 100%! What the heck has happened to this once iconic ‘flagship’ restaurant?? We are local and been going to The Granary for milestone celebrations for 30 years. H&W need to seriously reevaluate what is going wrong. We will not be going again unless something drastically changes….you need Amy Steel back it was fantastic when she managed it.

If you like swimming in everyone else's urine when you do go to the toilet this is the place for you! A village pub that has been killed by a real lack of due care. Place is disgustingly filthy with sticky floors and god knows what smells. Always seems to be an attitude on the lady barmaid when she is forced to do some work and not lie on the sofa. Owners of the establishment should be really ashamed. An outsider to the village that has spent many nights in the drax it really is a shame to see it killed by incompetence and I recommend the owners should get a mop out once in a while

Not the best experience we’ve ever had for sure. Booked a table for a Sunday Roast as we’d been turned away on Good Friday as they were fully booked. Our table was booked for 6pm & sadly by then they’d already run out of Roasts; so they obviously do a good trade or perhaps not enough prep, anyway we ordered from the varied menu & were looking forward to it. I’ll start with the positives, I had the locally made Faggots with Mash & Gravy which was great with lots of flavour, just a shame it came with what I guess is the left over veg from the Roast supplied as an accompaniment (Broccoli, Carrots & Cabbage (the latter being very stringy, almost a theme, you’ll see 😉). My wife had lamb chops which they kindly did with chips for her, sadly when they arrived (with the same left over roast veg side dish) they were very very small/thin lamb chops & it turned out one of them had string attached still, although I’m not sure why a lamb chop would have string on it 🤷‍♂️ We brought this to the attention of the waitress who wasn’t at all worried, good job it wasn’t my meal I’d have been insisting on sending it back, but she who must be obeyed didn’t want to make a fuss. I love me a good dessert & I had the Spotted Dick & Custard from the specials board, sadly it was just ok, I’m guessing homemade as what little fruit was in it had sunk to the bottom. All in all a bit of a disappointing experience & even though we get a discount because we were staying at Whitemead Caravan Park we will not be returning to the Ship Inn during future stays.
