One point deducted as the first attempt at Nduja chicken included a very small and seriously overcooked chicken portion. This was replaced although the side salad then became considerably smaller ? The rest of the experience was good and our server Charlie was extremely attentive and pleasant.

I had high hopes that the food and atmosphere would match the reviews seen here. Sadly the food was mediocre at best. My wife had the beer battered fish and chips. The batter was not crisp and while the chips were ok the overall impression was that food was not prepared with any degree of care or skill. I had the venison bouginon with smoked bacon, mushroom, mashed potato and kale. The venison was indistinguishable from beef and the flavour was just not there. My wife had a quite passable Shiraz wine and I had an alcohol free pale ale. The building showed some character but the old timbers must have been embarrassed because the meal was just another example of poorly delivered pub chain food. For what we paid it was disappointing and unless the business recognises the customer actually wants good food, and is prepared to pay for it, I doubt this pub will last long.

This pub looked so cosy from the outside, with the nice lighting and traditional building. We were put off a bit when we found that it was quiz night, but this was just ending. We’d been driving for hours and were hungry, so we wanted a decent dinner. We ordered two sharing platters, which were expensive but took our fancy. What arrived was passable, but there wasn’t much of it. About five vinegary olives, some bits of bread, a thimble of salad, a doll’s house size bowl of this, a midget’s pot of that. It would have been ok for a tenner, but nearly £18 a plate for this array of bits and bobs!!??! What a joke. The staff weren't at all interested in whether our food was ok. Perhaps come here for a pint but eat elsewhere.

We had a wonderful lunch. The waiter who took our order was really helpful and the other waitress was brilliant- polite and efficient. Lunch was delicious. The only thing that I would say is it felt a little tight for space at some tables but there were a few wheelchair users who found it a bit difficult to manoeuvre. This would be easily rectified and didn't affect our lunch, just something to keep in mind.

I had Beetroot Wellington which was soggy and whatever was in it was mulched and the pastry was soggy also as when I have had it before it's been a nice crusty puff pastry...this had just been cooked in microwave I think. Lovely pub and so much worth driving past the local competitor on the roundabout. Lovely atmosphere in the building, nicely laid out Food: to be fair it was a Christmas party, which is rarely the chance for cordon bleu. The food was ok, but not special. Toilets- spotlessly clean, although the cubicle needs a new light bulb and a chain to be flushable. I was a little surprised that the staff already knew and kind of implied it had been like it for a while. So, while they were very nice, it’s not a good mark for customer service.

We had a few drinks, then was told at 8pm, it was last orders, so we ordered our last drink. Then about 20 minutes later, we were told they were closing at 8.30. They were very abrupt and we did not feel welcome. So do you think we will be returning, when they can shut the door Willy nilly, without prior warning

Nice place, very pleasant people. Let down by poor portion size - a 3" dia 3/4" deep portion of meat topped off with piped mash is not a shepherds pie. The accompanying veg need not have been served in a separate bowl given there was so much room left on the plate the 'pie' was on! Service could have been a bit quicker. According to a friend who lives locally it has changed since he was last there - unfortunately not for the better.

Lovely looking pub. Staff were all friendly, welcoming, helpful and working hard. Can't fault the people that work here. All made a visible effort to look after their customers. Even with the set menu price, food wasn't up to scratch for the price. Bruschetta was a single, non descript slice of fairly tasteless bread with fresh tasting tomatoes on top. I could make a far superior version at home with minimal effort. Fish and chips were below average. Small portion of overcooked chips. Fish itself was tasty but encased in an excess of overcooked overly crispy batter. All of our meals were served lukewarm. We couldn't order most of what we wanted to eat as they were out of stock. We'd have been far better off eating at wetherspoons.

We travelled down from London to take two pensioners, who rarely get out, for a treat lunch. I wanted to make the day special but I wish I had read the reviews before booking! We could have over-looked the slow service if the food had been any good but, unfortunately, it was extremely sub-standard and basic despite the extortionate 'London prices'. Worse still, the staff were extremely surly and completely unapologetic when we, very politely, pointed out that one of the dishes was so over-cooked that it was inedible. We had to ask for the table to be cleared after another long wait. Redeeming features: they didn't charge for the inedible meal; the fish and chips was OK; they played a Jake Bugg track on the background music!!! Will not be returning.

I booked a table here as we were staying locally in our MoHo, and the pub was a 10-15min walk. I booked on line which was clear and easy and I could stipulate that we would have our dog with us. After booking, i read some previous reviews about poor / slow service which worried me considerably. We arrived slightly early to a nice welcome and prompt bar service. We explained that we were early but our table was ready for us and clearly marked with our name and a welcome greeting. Food was good wholesome "Pub-Grub". Steak and ale pie and the fish pie were ordered and arrived within 10-15 mins of ordering. Because we had the dog, we were sat in a lovely bar area and they explained that we needed to order at the bar - no problem for us. All in all, a lovely meal, at a fair price with happy and helpful staff.

Used to really enjoy going to this pub. Unfortunately this week’s experience wasn’t the best! The staff were not rude, however, it would seem the days of being shown to your table and given menus are gone as we had do that ourselves. The starters were very disappointing, the beetroot and goats cheese salad had barely any cheese on it. The soup was cold and the bread tasted stale, no butter portions were offered. The mains weren’t much better. The double. Cheeseburger was the worst I’ve ever had! The two burgers were so small in the larger brioche bun it looked ridiculous. The burgers were like cardboard, overcooked and dry. This has to be one of the easiest dishes to cook, not sure how it can be done so bad! Replacement drinks were ordered as the mains arrived and didn’t arrive until the meals had been pretty much finished! Overall experience was poor let down by poor food quality and very poor portion size. When queried with the staff they just blamed Hall and Woodhouse (the brewery) for there prescriptive menus and portions sizes!

Loved the feel of the place just felt a little of the restaurant vibe was lost as we were sat in the ‘dog area’ so had to order at the bar. Sadly our meals arrived before our drinks and when I asked a member of staff if we could have our drinks she said because of where we were sat we’d need to get our own from the bar? I went to see if they were ready but they hadn’t been poured. Food was of good quality but a little cool though I do like it piping. After 25 minutes i had to go to the bar to order drinks, menus where bought over shortly after drinks where delivered with an apology. We ordered food, one starter and two mains. Then sat with the empty starter plate for around 35/40 minutes! Had to go back to the bar to order more drinks, and let them know to mains away our food. One waitress had her hair down, after 25 minutes we asked about our mains. I have worked in hospitality management before and know it’s tough but when the manger came over to explain to us ‘I’ve read the tickets in the kitchen, and you where only mains away at 7:28..’ I replied “I understand however we booked for 6:15, and i personally had to go to the bar to mains away my table.” She then said the food was coming immediately.
