We've experienced good vegetarian roasts here before, but on this occasion it was very poor. The food arrived really quickly, which is never a good sign. It was luke warm at best. The worst aspect, however, was that all the vegetables had obviously been cooked several hours before and had just been reheated from unused veg left over from the lunchtime servings. We did mention this to the staff and had hoped for some small gesture of goodwill. None was forthcoming. Very dissatisfied and unlikely to visit again in the near future.

A bit of a strange pub. We were greeted at the entrance on both occasions we went there. The 1st time we were going to eat there but we're told that they only were able to seat us for drinks! We left. The next day we went back because it was sunny and they had seats outside by the Frome river. That in itself was enjoyable but we were greeted again and it felt like we had to justify the reason why we were there. We were 'invited' to go to the bar to order drinks. With all the other choice in Wareham I will probably not return there

Myself and my partner visited this pub today early evening, we were met by a waitress who told us they were full inside but told us to go walk around and find a table, she said it was first come first serve on the outside tables. As we were walking around the building we found a table, the waitress however knowing we were walking to that table and that we were looking for seating then told an older couple while pointing at the table we were on route to “hurry and be quick” and stated “I’ll clean it off for you” knowing full well we were about sit down, she was also looking straight at us during this. As a result of this it meant we had a very awkward encounter with the other customer who we were actually in front of so therefore should have been able to sit there. We were so annoyed and appalled by the waitress for how she treated us. She even told them a short cut through the pub to get to the table before we did.. so disappointed in this service, we were frequent visitors here.

Avoid the scotch egg, my husband took a bite and pulled out a big long dark hair. Manager was not in the least interested. Celebrating our daughter’s birthday as a family of 5. Poor service, scruffy disinterested servers, awful atmosphere, 7 main dishes not available on the menu on a Saturday evening at 7pm! After the scotch egg ‘hair’ we decided to pay for our wine and leave…went to The Bear where the service, food and atmosphere were 100%! What the heck has happened to this once iconic ‘flagship’ restaurant?? We are local and been going to The Granary for milestone celebrations for 30 years. H&W need to seriously reevaluate what is going wrong. We will not be going again unless something drastically changes….you need Amy Steel back it was fantastic when she managed it.

There were several of us waiting in line to order and one staff member was extremely rude as she told us off like little children for not waiting in the right spot and thereafter literally pushed past us all each time with no ‘excuse me’, smile or any form of respect. We then followed the instruction sign at the order spot to inform of any allergies only to then be told that no menu item could be amended in any way and that they couldn’t even leave a tomato slice off of a burger. We left and will never step foot in that unwelcoming pub again.

Overpriced food with Oliver Twist sized portions, complimented with rude staff positioned perfectly on the banks of the Wareham River. On arriving at the establishment I was advised by the 20-something gruff bar lady, with a smile & voice to match that I was not able to drink my beer in the bar (a first for in any pub in the world I would suggest), on account of my beverage being contained in the wrong glass. Said Bar Lady then began to become quite animated as her only mission in life it seemed was at to alleviate me of my beverage! Observing a significant increase in her blood pressure, I was relieved to see the Defibrillator on the nearby wall (photo attached) as the seal was being very close to being cracked as she took it upon herself to remind me 3 times that I had to ‘drink up or leave’, May I suggest to The Old Granary that a career in Traffic Wardening would better suit this ‘lady’ rather than Beverage Customer Service. Turning to the food, at a cost of £18.95, the “Fish & Chips” working out at roughly £1.80 per chip (yes, I was able to count them on my one hand), with a mushy pea pot that was comically small, left me “wanting more sir”… but actually the fish wasn’t all that anyway. At this juncture I need to point out how my wife says I always exaggerate, so it was with great relief when a generous random stranger, also queueing for the gruff bar lady asked me if “I wanted chips with that”.., 😄.., there goes my hero, a man after my own heart, I just hope he wasn’t thirsty or hungry all in all, I would suggest avoiding this place, whilst the surrounding are beautiful, the stroppy teenage style service is its biggest flaw, the food is decidedly average, and instead go to the pub across the car park, where upon you could return my beer glass

We booked in advance and paid a deposit to secure our table for mother's day, when arrived we were given a table in the noisy bar area, not what you expect when you've booked several weeks in advance and paid a deposit, it felt like we were treated as a walk in! Food was average at best, and certainly not reflective of the price! Roast beef was tough as old boots! No table check back was offered and no staff available to speak to. Took ages for our plates to be cleared and to receive a dessert menu, by the time someone came we had decided not to bother and would get an ice cream from the Quay instead! Paid bill and was not told about service charge being added, and there was no awareness of the deposit we'd paid, fortunately after paying the bill, I suddenly remembered about the deposit so we were able to get this refunded. There was also no sign of the complimentary mother's day chocolates that had been advertised!! Very disappointing, as it's such a great location but we won't be returning!

Sunday 9th February, we visited The Granary where we’ve been on several occasions during the summer because they have a prime spot by the river. It was a freezing cold night so we wanted somewhere warm where we could enjoy a Sunday roast. There was only beef left so we ordered two. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good. We sat at a table by a wood burning fire but the fire wasn’t lit which was very disappointing. We ordered drinks then our meal arrived which looked very good. The beef was thinly sliced and pink in the middle which looked perfect with the Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. Unfortunately it was the worst beef we have ever had, it was tough, tasteless and difficult to cut but seeing as there was no other choice of roast left we persevered with it. The waitress asked us how our meals were and we told her the beef was dreadful to which she said she would speak to the chef. We would have liked a dessert but when we saw the prices of simple puddings were over £8 we decided not to so just had coffee. Because we weren’t happy with the beef, only 15% was deducted from our bill. It was a very disappointing visit, we won’t be returning during the winter months.

The building itself is an excellent venue in a great location on the quay at Wareham. This was our first visit to have an evening meal at the Old Granary, and was much anticipated because I fully expected to have a great meal here. I hoped it would be at least as good as the meal we had at the Italian Kitchen in Wareham 2 weeks previously. However, we were very disappointed about many aspects, and especially the quality of food. The first issue was that my wife and I were offered different menus. Although it didnt have a heading to say it was anything other than the standard menu, it turned out I had been given the Gluten Free menu whilst my wife had the correct one. I was struggling to find a sutable main course until my wife showed me her menu. The Starter we both chose was the Mushroom Soup, which was surprisingly dark in colour, but worst of all tasted very greasy. This unpleasant flavour was apparently caused by the chef adding 'finishing oil' into the soup. Well yes, it did finish off the quality of flavour, and also wasnt helped by the fact that the bread provided was fairly stale with a very 'heavy' consistency. I gave this feedback at the time but the waiting staff just said they would tell the chef. I heard nothing more and so we just finished the soup, whilst leaving the bread. My wife later noted that another table actually sent their soup back to the kitchen, and so maybe we should have done too!! Our main course then arrived, along with the bottle of white wine which was just plonked on the table with no thought to even take the top off let alone offer to taste/pour. No refinements in serving at this restaurant it seems. Having chosen Pan Seared Hake with Samphire, Tenderstem Brocolli, and smashed new potatoes, I was hoping for an improvement on the starter. I was again disappointed though, because my fish was overdone and quite dry. I presume the skin side was grilled to create a crispy skin which was fine, but the other side was then Pan Fried to such an extent that the surface was browned off and almost solid. This meant the rest of the fish was fairly dry in texture. The Tenderstem Brocolli though was Al Dente to the extreme which meant my knife needed a lot of effort to cut through it and was very firm when I chewed on it. The rest of the veg and sauce was satisfactory but nothing more. Again I gave this feedback to the waiting staff who again said they would tell the chef. Again I heard nothing more, so we decided not to risk ordering a desert as we had originally intended. When paying the bill at the desk, I was again asked if everything was ok, and so I repeated my previous feedback and was again assured she would tell the chef, but no thought to offer any kind of a discount!!! I would point out that my wifes main course was of better quality. It was only because of that, and because I really didnt want to spoil our evening out on New Years Eve, that I didnt send my food back, or make a greater issue of things at the time. NB: The live music which had just started when we finished our meal also sounded quite poor quality too and so for all these reasons we decided to finish our evening at the Quay Inn instead which had excellent entertainment booked that night. We dont intend to return to this establishment at any time in the future. There are a number of great eating venus in Wareham and so thats where I'll spend my money it future!!

This is a lovely pub, no doubt about it. This review is about Christmas dinner so we all know you pay a premium. But then expectations are justifiably high. I would say it would be nice to have a welcome drink included and sauces like cranberry and gravy on the table rather than asking for tiny pots at £100 a head. Wasn't impressed that you could look in the kitchen and see all the veg piled up in plastic containers for microwaving..I know small things. I was shocked to find a £50 service charge already on the bill. This should be at my discretion to put it on and not have to ask to have it taken off(which I didn't). A mixture of burgers, fish and chips and pie although some more seasonal veg with the pies would have been nice. We noticed the same waitress giving another family very hard stares as their toddler walked around, she wasn’t disturbing anyone as empty in that part of restaurant. There were two other waitress's who smiled and engaged a little but the atmosphere was not relaxed. We won’t return as not made to feel welcome as a family. We have noticed previous reviews get the usual reply from head office…please please read the reviews and act on them, not just a standard auto bot reply!

The food was nice and really hot, the staff were friendly and polite but the service was really slow. We do like a bit a break between courses, but this was just a bit too long. It was really busy, so I think it would be fair to say it's probably better at less popular times. The pub itself is in a lovely setting right next to the river. Prices are quite high, £35/person with 2 soft drinks. We would return, so I guess that speaks for itself, and the fact a busy place is a good place. Cleanliness also very good. 😛👍

The lay out of the pub was very inviting, and comfortable, but as soon as we walked through the door, we were not made feel welcome by the lady who was there, and was very arkward, the lady needs to inprove her customer servise skills, we continued to order a drink, the lady behind the bar was very nice and chatty, we were going to eat but after not being made feel welcome, and the food was very expensive we decided no to eat

Absolute gem of a place to find on our travels. Dog friendly, cosy, great staff and scrumptious food. This food and service is 5 star. Haven't been to a pub in a long time, when everything is just perfect. Thankyou.

Lovely location, very tasty food. Restaurant was a little cold and front of house staff on the Saturday evening looked scruffy which is why I’m not giving full points.

A very disappointing visit to The Old Granary. Three of us for lunch. One had halloumi wrap - which was cold (she had previously had the same in another Hall and Woodhouse pub and that one was hot), one had pulled mushrooms on ciabatta which was inedible. I had a starter - smoked mackerel pate with ciabatta toasts and pickled cucumber. Very poor value for money at £8.25. It consisted of a blob of pate, 3 very small pieces of toast which was rock hard and seemed to have come from a pack, a sprinkling of the cucumber and a scattering of poor looking green leaf (possibly lambs lettuce??) I had to ask for some bread. The pate itself was quite nice. We have been here before but won’t be repeating the visit. When we expressed our concerns to a member of staff we were simply told that all three choices were popular with no complaints. We went with the intention of enjoying lunch, we were not looking to find fault. I regret not taking photos.

Had a meal there with friends a few years ago so decided to back as it was nice last time. Unfortunately my food last night was poor. Ordered a slow cooked pork belly however it’s was not slow cooked it was very dry and tough. Just as if it had been frozen and pan fried later. Potatoes were like sponge. Veg was nice but not enough of it. People with me had overcooked fish and considering the price we paid was overall disappointed. Service was ok but when I told cashier as I paid she just didn’t seem to care. Was quite busy with a quiz going on so maybe that contributed to the night.not impressed at all.

The worst ceaser salad I've ever eaten in my 38 years. I may aswell have drank a bottle of dressing. It was completely soggy and wet. I did make this clear as I'd not eaten all day so I could eat out, but nothing was offered to accommodate me. I couldn't even eat half of it and I can eat. Not worth it for me and I won't be going back to eat . Absolute joke.

Lovely venue, and the food was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and location. Bar and most waiting staff seemed untrained, unhelpful, and uninterested. Got served a pint with a 2 inch gap from top of the glass and got sighed at when I asked for it to be corrected. Had to ask for previous tables plates and glasses to be removed after sitting for 20 minutes with them stacked up at the side of the table - it wasn't busy. Most of the staff wandered around aloof and unaware of the need to be aware. Didn't detract from a lovely evening though, I probably wouldn't risk eating there if it was busy.

As a local, the Granary is seen as a staple of Wareham. It’s such a nice place on the Quay. However, every time I have gone it has always disappointed me. The food is good, depending on what you get, i’ve never been disappointed but also never impressed. The coffee is good coffee but you can find better in Wareham. My main disappointment is the service. The younger staff are usually pleasant and provide good service, but the older staff (that i’ve experienced) have never been directly rude, but just cold and half the time I feel like I’m a massive inconvenience. No effort to smile or anything. I’d say the Quay Inn is a better option.

I had what is possibly the worst cooked English breakfast in my life. Every item on the plate had an issue and the portion was rather pathetic for the price. When I pointed out to the apathetic waitress that the chargrilled bread was burnt she responded that that's how it's meant to be lol. She never returned with replacements. The whole sad ensemble was towered over by an enormous cooked tomato and it seemed the cook had probably focussed on preparing this rather than paying attention to the bacon, which was so dry it brittled upon touch. Very disappointing.

Our experience at the Old Granary left us with mixed emotions and sadly we won't return. this was our third lunch here and we were excited to bring a good friend with us. We are not local to the area and had not vistied on a Saturday before. On our arrival we were surprised to find that the parking area was filled with a market and we had no idea where we could park. We pulled over and our guest popped in to enquire as to where we could find parking. He was met by a frosty unhelpful lady who shrugged and said she didn't know, and by her attitutude she didn't care either. Fortunately when stopping the gentleman also assiting at front of house, some directions to parking were proferred. The first impression for our guest though was not what we had hoped for. Our table was in a loud and busy area, which would have made it impossible for conversation, something to note when making your booking. Fortunately, and a plus on the service experience, we were able to be seated in a quieter area. The Old Granary is an attractively detailed pub and we liked the decor. Issey, our server was fabulous. Great smile, engaging and she rescued the lunch on the whole. Food wise, we had the Larder sharing platter which was well presented and tasty, classic fish and chips, the chicken and bacon pie, and the sirloin. The sirloin was not the best and quite pricey even for steak, and was a bit of a disappointment. After a rainy day the sun evetually broke through the clouds and we wanted to take advantage of the deck area alongside the river for a drink and dessert. As requested duly settled our account and headed outside with our drinks, I popped inside for a menu to be told by front of house that because of the weather no food was being served outside, not even dessert. This was in case the rain returned and we needed to come inside and tables were not available. It was late afternoon, between sittings with many empty tables, and when settling our lunch bill I had stated we wanted to have dessert outside and was told that this would not be a problem. We were a table of 3 an our bill was about £50per person... Overall not very hospitable, and not what we expected from our previous lunches a disappointing end to our afternoon.

My food was inedible like someone had accidently spilt dry herbs on it. Everyone else's food was slightly better but had been under a heat lamp for a while. Nothing was great. I left having only eaten a bit of bread for my starter. It was very disappointing.

Came here for the first time , you have to enter your number plate when you get inside . The pub itself was nice , very varied people from bikers to grandmas . Menu wasn’t the biggest or most varied but saying that what we had was lovely . Very affordable for 5 of us it was just over £100 ! That’s drinks mains & desserts .

We were going to meet 5 relatives there this week but won't bother now. If you can't be bothered to be open as advertised, we can't be bothered to give you our money.

Not the best experience we’ve ever had for sure. Booked a table for a Sunday Roast as we’d been turned away on Good Friday as they were fully booked. Our table was booked for 6pm & sadly by then they’d already run out of Roasts; so they obviously do a good trade or perhaps not enough prep, anyway we ordered from the varied menu & were looking forward to it. I’ll start with the positives, I had the locally made Faggots with Mash & Gravy which was great with lots of flavour, just a shame it came with what I guess is the left over veg from the Roast supplied as an accompaniment (Broccoli, Carrots & Cabbage (the latter being very stringy, almost a theme, you’ll see 😉). My wife had lamb chops which they kindly did with chips for her, sadly when they arrived (with the same left over roast veg side dish) they were very very small/thin lamb chops & it turned out one of them had string attached still, although I’m not sure why a lamb chop would have string on it 🤷‍♂️ We brought this to the attention of the waitress who wasn’t at all worried, good job it wasn’t my meal I’d have been insisting on sending it back, but she who must be obeyed didn’t want to make a fuss. I love me a good dessert & I had the Spotted Dick & Custard from the specials board, sadly it was just ok, I’m guessing homemade as what little fruit was in it had sunk to the bottom. All in all a bit of a disappointing experience & even though we get a discount because we were staying at Whitemead Caravan Park we will not be returning to the Ship Inn during future stays.
