This is a lovely friendly restaurant with great food & great service. Our waitress was Daisy - she was friendly, professional and demonstrated the best in customer service. As an example we sat near open windows and requested from the woman who seemed to be in charge of the team to close them as it was draughty - she said it got very hot in there. When I explained not for me sitting beneath them she said 'I can close one (of four!) and did. When Daisy arrived she saw windows were open - thought about customers first and without asking just closed them. What a difference one person can make. Fantastic food, great atmosphere and Daisy! Thanks

We had roast beef which was fine. No complaints at all. Very atmospheric seating in the casual dining area. I can imagine that in the summer this would be an even better experience as it is right next to the river. Public Car park is conveniently located outside too.

Setting lovely but food did not live up to expectations. Roast beef (promised pink on menu) was well done and too tough to eat. Rest of vegetables were not great either. Shame as starter was nice. Waitress dismissive of our complaints and no apology offered and full service charged spoiling the experience

Had roast beef on Sunday . The menu said it’s served pink , it certainly wasn’t and was really tuff . The family on the next table left all their beef . We waited over 30 mins for our food . They also added a 10% service charge to the bill , which in my opinion should not be automatically added and then have to ask for it to be removed, Then I was asked to que at the bar after our meal to pay hardly good table service . Disappointing to say the least !

Sunday 9th February, we visited The Granary where we’ve been on several occasions during the summer because they have a prime spot by the river. It was a freezing cold night so we wanted somewhere warm where we could enjoy a Sunday roast. There was only beef left so we ordered two. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good. We sat at a table by a wood burning fire but the fire wasn’t lit which was very disappointing. We ordered drinks then our meal arrived which looked very good. The beef was thinly sliced and pink in the middle which looked perfect with the Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. Unfortunately it was the worst beef we have ever had, it was tough, tasteless and difficult to cut but seeing as there was no other choice of roast left we persevered with it. The waitress asked us how our meals were and we told her the beef was dreadful to which she said she would speak to the chef. We would have liked a dessert but when we saw the prices of simple puddings were over £8 we decided not to so just had coffee. Because we weren’t happy with the beef, only 15% was deducted from our bill. It was a very disappointing visit, we won’t be returning during the winter months.

The building itself is an excellent venue in a great location on the quay at Wareham. This was our first visit to have an evening meal at the Old Granary, and was much anticipated because I fully expected to have a great meal here. I hoped it would be at least as good as the meal we had at the Italian Kitchen in Wareham 2 weeks previously. However, we were very disappointed about many aspects, and especially the quality of food. The first issue was that my wife and I were offered different menus. Although it didnt have a heading to say it was anything other than the standard menu, it turned out I had been given the Gluten Free menu whilst my wife had the correct one. I was struggling to find a sutable main course until my wife showed me her menu. The Starter we both chose was the Mushroom Soup, which was surprisingly dark in colour, but worst of all tasted very greasy. This unpleasant flavour was apparently caused by the chef adding 'finishing oil' into the soup. Well yes, it did finish off the quality of flavour, and also wasnt helped by the fact that the bread provided was fairly stale with a very 'heavy' consistency. I gave this feedback at the time but the waiting staff just said they would tell the chef. I heard nothing more and so we just finished the soup, whilst leaving the bread. My wife later noted that another table actually sent their soup back to the kitchen, and so maybe we should have done too!! Our main course then arrived, along with the bottle of white wine which was just plonked on the table with no thought to even take the top off let alone offer to taste/pour. No refinements in serving at this restaurant it seems. Having chosen Pan Seared Hake with Samphire, Tenderstem Brocolli, and smashed new potatoes, I was hoping for an improvement on the starter. I was again disappointed though, because my fish was overdone and quite dry. I presume the skin side was grilled to create a crispy skin which was fine, but the other side was then Pan Fried to such an extent that the surface was browned off and almost solid. This meant the rest of the fish was fairly dry in texture. The Tenderstem Brocolli though was Al Dente to the extreme which meant my knife needed a lot of effort to cut through it and was very firm when I chewed on it. The rest of the veg and sauce was satisfactory but nothing more. Again I gave this feedback to the waiting staff who again said they would tell the chef. Again I heard nothing more, so we decided not to risk ordering a desert as we had originally intended. When paying the bill at the desk, I was again asked if everything was ok, and so I repeated my previous feedback and was again assured she would tell the chef, but no thought to offer any kind of a discount!!! I would point out that my wifes main course was of better quality. It was only because of that, and because I really didnt want to spoil our evening out on New Years Eve, that I didnt send my food back, or make a greater issue of things at the time. NB: The live music which had just started when we finished our meal also sounded quite poor quality too and so for all these reasons we decided to finish our evening at the Quay Inn instead which had excellent entertainment booked that night. We dont intend to return to this establishment at any time in the future. There are a number of great eating venus in Wareham and so thats where I'll spend my money it future!!

This is a lovely pub, no doubt about it. This review is about Christmas dinner so we all know you pay a premium. But then expectations are justifiably high. I would say it would be nice to have a welcome drink included and sauces like cranberry and gravy on the table rather than asking for tiny pots at £100 a head. Wasn't impressed that you could look in the kitchen and see all the veg piled up in plastic containers for microwaving..I know small things. I was shocked to find a £50 service charge already on the bill. This should be at my discretion to put it on and not have to ask to have it taken off(which I didn't). All in all it was OK ,nothing more I'm afraid.

My wife chose the braised beef, which she enjoyed, but the portion size was small. I ordered the vegetable tart with rosemary and garlic potatoes with a side salad. Whilst the tart was superb, the potatoes had been re-heated and were inedible. I mentioned this to the server but no allowance was made on the bill, and there was a 10% service charge, which we paid. The waitress was very stony faced..a French lady..no chat or engagement whatsoever. The food was good. A mixture of burgers, fish and chips and pie although some more seasonal veg with the pies would have been nice. We noticed the same waitress giving another family very hard stares as their toddler walked around, she wasn’t disturbing anyone as empty in that part of restaurant. There were two other waitress's who smiled and engaged a little but the atmosphere was not relaxed. We won’t return as not made to feel welcome as a family. A very disappointing visit to The Old Granary. Three of us for lunch. One had halloumi wrap - which was cold (she had previously had the same in another Hall and Woodhouse pub and that one was hot), one had pulled mushrooms on ciabatta which was inedible. I had a starter - smoked mackerel pate with ciabatta toasts and pickled cucumber. Very poor value for money at £8.25. It consisted of a blob of pate, 3 very small pieces of toast which was rock hard and seemed to have come from a pack, a sprinkling of the cucumber and a scattering of poor looking green leaf (possibly lambs lettuce??) I had to ask for some bread. The pate itself was quite nice. We have been here before but won’t be repeating the visit. When we expressed our concerns to a member of staff we were simply told that all three choices were popular with no complaints. We went with the intention of enjoying lunch, we were not looking to find fault. I regret not taking photos.

The food is good, depending on what you get, i’ve never been disappointed but also never impressed. The coffee is good coffee but you can find better in Wareham. My main disappointment is the service. The younger staff are usually pleasant and provide good service, but the older staff (that i’ve experienced) have never been directly rude, but just cold and half the time I feel like I’m a massive inconvenience. When I pointed out to the apathetic waitress that the chargrilled bread was burnt she responded that that's how it's meant to be lol. She never returned with replacements. The whole sad ensemble was towered over by an enormous cooked tomato and it seemed the cook had probably focussed on preparing this rather than paying attention to the bacon, which was so dry it brittled upon touch. Our experience at the Old Granary left us with mixed emotions and sadly we won't return. this was our third lunch here and we were excited to bring a good friend with us. We are not local to the area and had not vistied on a Saturday before. On our arrival we were surprised to find that the parking area was filled with a market and we had no idea where we could park. We pulled over and our guest popped in to enquire as to where we could find parking. He was met by a frosty unhelpful lady who shrugged and said she didn't know, and by her attitutude she didn't care either. Fortunately when stopping the gentleman also assiting at front of house, some directions to parking were proferred. The first impression for our guest though was not what we had hoped for. Our table was in a loud and busy area, which would have made it impossible for conversation, something to note when making your booking. Fortunately, and a plus on the service experience, we were able to be seated in a quieter area. The Old Granary is an attractively detailed pub and we liked the decor. Issey, our server was fabulous. Great smile, engaging and she rescued the lunch on the whole. Food wise, we had the Larder sharing platter which was well presented and tasty, classic fish and chips, the chicken and bacon pie, and the sirloin. The sirloin was not the best and quite pricey even for steak, and was a bit of a disappointment. After a rainy day the sun evetually broke through the clouds and we wanted to take advantage of the deck area alongside the river for a drink and dessert. As requested duly settled our account and headed outside with our drinks, I popped inside for a menu to be told by front of house that because of the weather no food was being served outside, not even dessert. This was in case the rain returned and we needed to come inside and tables were not available. It was late afternoon, between sittings with many empty tables, and when settling our lunch bill I had stated we wanted to have dessert outside and was told that this would not be a problem. We were a table of 3 an our bill was about £50per person... Overall not very hospitable, and not what we expected from our previous lunches a disappointing end to our afternoon.

After asking where were our drinks we ordered food. 5 mins later we were told 1 item was no longer available,ok so we ordered the same roast. 45 mins later after several enquires our meal arrived. Roast potatoes were dried up eighths with a small variety of veg. The beef was not pink as description on menu. We were still hungary so ordered desserts. Rubbish service yet they had the cheek of adding 10 percent! We paid via app to get out of there so didn't realise they automatically added it. Dont bother going.

We had prebooked our wedding anniversary meal here and we were both looking forward to it! We put our best clothes on and arrived . We were disappointed to be placed next to a noisy busy bar instead of being seated at the back of the restaurant to enjoy our meal. The table also had a tile on it , our booking was written above it with the time and underneath was the next booking so, we had 2 hours to complete our visit here weather we liked it or not ! We then waited 35 minutes for our drink order to arrive , the waitress looked miserable and was not helpful when we had queries with the menu choices . Our meal was however very nice although expensive for what it is . We are local people and will not be booking here again . Shame really .

Great location and decent food but the service left a lot to be desired. When we asked when our main courses might arrive we were asked if we'd informed them that we'd finished our starters (an hour earlier). Go figure!

Great location and surroundings. Service was below par, may be a few members of staff still learning their trade, I don’t really want to have to keep walking to the bar when it’s table service for a drink. Portions were small, Soup and Mussels for me were not VFM. Had been in the Horse and Groom earlier and was inspired by their Mussels….. should of perhaps eaten there.

Stumbling upon this restaurant by chance, we were won over by the quality of the dishes offered! It was delicious and we even came back on the way home!

We went there because of the beautiful location. Unfortunately! Although there are dishes with rice on the menu, they refused to cook a portion of rice for our three-year-old daughter. So she ate the chips that came with my mini burger (double cheeseburger). My wife's salad was the size of a side dish and cost a main course. We got a pizza after our meal. Not recommended!

Lovely view but shame about the service. Sat 20mins on a dirty table with no server in site. Asked server to remove dirty crockery when drinks were bought and despite having a tray in hand said she'd send someone out. Waited another 10mins before going in and asking again to be told by a very condensending girl that they were extremely busy inside and someone would be out when free; only 5 tables were occupied that could be seen inside. Hairy fibres on pint glass when took a mouthful but lady behind bar very apologetic and helpful with that.

Foreign lady at the at with tattoos should not be working with customers. Rude to my wife while holding our baby, made her so upset was about to leave. Rest of the staff were amazing. But she needs having word to by managers or sacked, disgusting attitude.

Friendly staff and thank you so much for accommodating Wareham Woolies on Wednesdays for the evening. We had a most enjoyable time in your beautifully situated establishment by the river. The decoration is wonderful I could happily move in and live there. The wall of mirrors particularly took my fancy, asking with the rope banisters.. I may well have to start buying some little hand mirrors etcto do something similar in my home. Once again thanks so much for your hospitality

Busy but took a good while for drinks to arrive and around 45 minutes for our meals. The Halloumi wrap was pathetic, so skinny as very little filling. The chips would be nice if dont come ready salted and heavily at that. Veg tart came with a watercress and shallot salad, but just that, a bit of lettuce/ tomato would have made it way nicer. How can you pay a service charge before even getting anything! Ordering is done on your phone, you only see a server as they drop your drinks and food, you have to collect your cutlery etc from service area.

Very limited menu, extremely small portions and higher than average prices. I walked out thinking it was a total waste of money, I definitely would not go back. I hope this is not typical of Hall & Woodhouse pubs.

Cashless anyone supporting the abolishment of cash deserves 1 star. Cash is legal tender. Once it's lost, you never get it back ! It's also discrimination against people with disabilities. A lot of people can't use bank cards and can only deal in cash. Eliminating these people from buying a drink is discrimination and action should be enforced.

A great traditional English pub that serves lovely homecooked food, we had the Gammon, eggs, and chunky chips, and it was absolutely delicious! The pub is very welcoming with friendly and attentive staff. There is plenty of outside space, so when spring arrives, I am sure it will be a lovely place to sit and enjoy good food and a couple of drinks. It's certainly a place we will return to when we are next in the area.

Bad start when the member of staff greets you with a moan about how many bookings they have. That’s not my problem. Maybe try welcoming us with positivity and wishing my wife a happy Mother’s day instead. Our table seemed ok to start with, but before I had even warmed the seat up we were being asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We asked to be given a minute, but immediately afterwards a second member of staff asked if we were ready to order. The conveyer belt was truly in motion. Well the table was made worse when guests arrived on the adjacent table. It was clear there was insufficient room for comfort. Please stop the money-grabbing, cram them in like sardines approach and provide an enjoyable experience. We ordered our food, two roast beef and a child’s fish goujon and chips. I reckon 5 minutes passed and we were presented with our plates. The only nice part was the horseradish. My beef was tough, potatoes over done and lukewarm at best. The gravy was bland, not beef gravy and I wish I hadn’t added it to the dish. The lunch was rounded off with a bill that already had service charge applied in faded print that I didn’t see. We were a table of 3, why is service charge included as standard? I didn’t want to tip their poor service, bad setting and rubbish food. To top it all my wife had to ask for the Mother’s Day chocolate gift, another chance to say Happy Mother’s Day missed. Never going back!
