Love this restaurant. It's a bit quirky and more traditional Thai environment as a pose to a fancy restaurant but the Thai food is amazing and prices are reasonable. They only take cash too.

Siam Zaa is just NIAM NIAM 😋🥰 🅿️ there is a parking lot alr near the restaurant, or it should be easy to find a space around the street 💺 Quite alot of seats and clean ~~ 🍲 The raw shrimp / Tom Ka are my favorite !! If you wanna try sth different, here you go 🙋🏻‍♀️Service is greatttttt, we've been there a several times served by the same cute lady with big round glasses, and she is just super nice/friendly and caring! anything you need she noticed right away, and will always help with queries patiently if any 🥰

The only cons is that they don’t accept cards so you have your pay cash or bank transfer. Would be great if the staff inform about this as soon as you come in as in my case, I was in a business trip and must to pay my expenses with my company card

Outstanding! the starters couldn't be faulted, spring rolls, tempura prawns, prawn toast and satay chicken skewers. Mains we had green and red thai green curry's that were delicious, a pad thai king prawn, also nice but down to preference i feel. Then one of us had ordered the grilled beef but the portion size of this was quite disappointing, that said, it was delicous and we all loved teme

Was recommended this restaurant by the Holiday Inn opposite. It was late on a Monday night and the restaurant was empty (as you would probably expect). We were expecting the food to be bland and asked for some extra hot sauce. We didn't need it as the food was cooked the way it should be - not too hot and very flavourful. This is probably the best Thai meal I have had outside of Thailand (and I have visited several Thai restaurants). If there is any improvements then I would the restaurant not to serve everything together and serve in stages - e.g. starters, mid, mains, etc, but perhaps it was late and that may be why the food came out together. Overall. a great recommendation from the hotel and a fantastic meal.

I was in Newcastle recently for work and after a busy day I picked this place as it was round the corner from my hotel. It was a Tuesday and it wasnt very busy but there were a number of tables occupied including people that looked and sounded Thai, which I took as a good sign. The staff were friendly and attentive. I had a veg & tofu masaman curry and egg fried rice with a glass of eine. Portions were good and the food was very tasty, and I very much enjoyed my dinner. Prices were v good value too. Only thing I'd criticise is that due to the basement location the ventilation was pretty poor and all kitchen smells lingered in the dining area.

This WAS the best Thai in Newcastle, in fact, I believe my previous reviews hd it as the best I'd ate in the UK. Sadly, change of ownership or chef have left it down, and whether it's laziness or just the chef lacks the skill of the previous chef the tastes have suffered. It's not bad, it's not that expensive, it's just not that great. The fried egg served onto the chicken and rice, essentially has to be soft yolk - that's what makes the dish, not over cooked. The chicken needs cutting better, and the flavors need to pop. The noodles were too heavy with not enough chicken but a full boiled egg (how are you meant to eat that with a spoon? ... cut the thing in half at least). Sadly, after eating here 20+ times in the years, we're looking for somewhere better.

Stayed in Newcastle overnight for work and the restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff. If you are looking for fancy Thai food, with immaculately turned out waitresses then this is probably not it. But if you are looking for authentic cuisine, a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere then this is most certainly it. It reminded me of family restaurants in Asia - a little bit haphazard, very friendly and decent 'homecooked' type food as opposed to identikit dishes. Very reasonably priced food by comparison to anything further South in the UK at the moment, huge portions and top marks for not making a lone female diner feel out of place. Thank you!

This place was recommended to our son who lives in Washington, Tyne & Wear and knows some local Thai residents who had assured him that the food is authentic Thai cuisine. He now eats here whenever he visits the city centre, and enjoys the food so much that when we visited from the South Coast he wanted to treat us to a meal here. Following a morning wandering around Newcastle we arrived here for a Saturday lunch just after they had opened, so it was quiet although it filled up more after our arrival. The welcome and service by the lovely waitress were excellent. My wife was a little intrepid as she cannot eat spicy food, so was restricted in her choice of dish. Nevertheless, she was totally blown away by the sweet and sour chicken, and my son and I both found our crispy pork dishes to be outstanding. We also felt that the meal represented excellent value for money, especially in relation to the price of meals in restaurants in the south! The ambience is ok but nothing special, but frankly what you come here for is the food! Our son has really gone and done it now as we shall expect further visits here whenever we visit him!

Visited on 10 April 2023 at 7pm. I’ve been to The Siam Zaa before but it was my first time trying their Mu Kathra/Mookata offering - a barbecue and hot pot all in one. We ordered the meat platter which came with chicken, pork and beef as well as a basket of vegetables (like cabbage), glass noodles and an egg. We also ordered a portion of mamie noodles. The platter also came with the option of choosing two sauces and we went with the peanut sauce and chili sauce. The broth that was offered was a chicken broth which was very flavorful. The meat was tender and marinated well! The sauces we chose were delicious and not overly spicy. This platter would definitely be enough for two people but as we were a group of three, we added on two more portions of meat as well. There was also free refill for the broth whenever it ran low. Overall, a very good experience and would go back for their Mu Kathra!

I normally opt for traditional green and red curries, which you can never go wrong with. However, I recently tried Tom Yum noodle soup and it was simply amazing. Sufficient quantity in a large bowl along with rice noodles and stir fried vegetables. The soup is so delicious you will want to finish it to the very last drop. However, if you are a vegetarian, just as a matter of precaution for you, I want to add that the soup has a whole boiled egg. Just to give you a heads-up. You can either ask not to put it in or could take it out whole before eating. The best thing is value for money. You won't feel how much you get to eat in the price given.

We've not been to The Siam Zaa since the advent of Covid, but that changed the other night when we found ourselves heading down the steps to the restaurant. A sink has been installed outside with soap and sanitiser which I'm pretty sure wasn't there prior to the Vid making its unwelcome appearance in the general population of the planet. However, they still have the cash only sign on the window which always annoys me. Anyway, we were shown very quickly to a table, it was dead at 6pm, and we ordered drinks. Sadly the waiter either didn't want to be at work or needs retraining as his service the whole night was flying dangerously close to being poor. He simply dumped the drinks on the table, and appeared agitated that we weren't ready to order our food yet. We flagged him down after a while and placed on order and waited... After a while, the waiter came back with cutlery and plates, and again, simply dumped them to the side of the table. Other places will dish them out to all diners, but not this guy. Food took a while to arrive, despite us being the only people for a good while, but when it did, wow... Between us we grabbed a papaya salad which was great, but portion size seems to have decreased since the last time we were there; kale and crispy pork minus the kale as they didn't have any, but did have spring veg. The pork was nice, BUT, again portion size was smaller; the chicken Pad Thai was very tasty, packed with flavour, and was seemingly a full sized portion too; the tom yam koong was amazing, with plenty of large prawns in there; and we also had a grilled sea bass which was a large fish, a bit bony, but very, very nice. We also had a couple bowls of rice too. All in all this was a fantastic meal, full of rich authentic flavours. It was only slightly marred by the waiter's attitude (he "forgot" our second round of drinks and seemed bitter when we reminded him). I would have dropped the rating by one or two marks thanks to the waiter, but the quality of the food helped to cancel him out. The bill came to over £100, and, as mentioned they are cash only, and given the way of the world now who carries that much cash around? Dining here is not cheap, particularly when they've reduced portion sizes on many dishes but have bumped up prices too... Still, great food, great venue, not so great waiter.

Fancied Thai food after a shopping trip to Newcastle and googled Thai restaurants. This came up so we decided to give it a go. Having spent a great deal of time in the far east I am not too easily impressed usually by Thai food in this country. This restaurant was a true find!. Shabby in décor and in need of a refurb it really did remind me of my favourite eateries in Thailand. All the serving staff were Thai and probably Uni students however this added to the atmosphere. We were the only English speaking customers, again another great sign! The food was sublime ..quite excellent! We had a selection of papaya salad, red prawn curry and a sizzling pork dish. All were fantastic. We cannot wait to return and having studied their menu online to help us decided what to have next! No cards accepted and cash only (but I expected that ) all in all a truly authentic experience.

First off - do not be put off by the buffoons leaving negative comments on here because "who doesn't accept card these days". Alright it's a little bit strange to have to pay cash, but it's hardly the end of the world - there is a cash point less than 5mins walk away.

Made a terrific first night out in Newcastle after a long drive. Relaxed atmosphere. Attentive servers. They were careful with GF requests. It was very busy so make a reservation.

I’ve loved Thai food for over 30 years now and I have to say that this is amongst the best I have tasted in that time.

Lovely food and quick service despite what looked like a very busy evening for the restaurant. Frequent by Thais too so it can’t go wrong.

Over the last few years there have been a number of different restaurants on this site. The Siam Zaa is the latest and by far the best. I really hope it lasts. I live nearby and am happy to go there often.

Authentic Thai food served by a wonderful waitress that was only too happy to help (and keep the drinks flowing). We were a table of 6 and sampled a range of starters and mains all of which were fantastically fresh tasting and artistically presented. We will def be back!

Due to the trip advisor comments on this restaurant my work colleagues and I decided to give it a go for our monthly meal out. We went before 6pm and the restaurant was empty however it was warm (so many are cold at this time) and friendly. It did have other tables filled when we left. It’s evident that later in the evening there could be singing involved due to the stage and equipment.

Went with my family, including kids, and we had a lovely meal. It felt 'home cooked' and authentic and the staff were really helpful in assisting us to select the dishes we wanted to eat. All of the food was great and I heartily recommend this restaurant to Thai veterans and newbies alike.

The food here was excellent; I'd say the best Thai food in Newcastle. It does only accept cash at present, so make sure you have money on you when you visit. Also, if you are in a rush you should pre-order.

We walked in as this place was the nearest Thai restaurant at the time. What a great surprise. The service was a little slow but the food was authentic and had such good flavours! Loved it and would definitely come back

I love Thai food, been to every Thai that opened, and sadly usually closed in Newcastle. Whenever I am away I always seek out the nearest Thai. We've never had more choice for Thai food than we have in Newcastle right now. I was very interested when I found out that this place had opened and headed down, have been every week since. I don't like the flashing lights or club fee of the placel. However, the food is amazing. Fresh tastes and just the right amount of 'bite'. Always beautifully presented. Service is exactly right too and they remember you from previous visits, which I appreciate. Do go and support this place, it is, in my opinion the best Thai food in Newcastle and I hope it is a long term fixture.

We discovered this unassuming Thai restaurant by chance which is only a five minute walk from Central Station. Situated in a side street basement we were warmly greeted on arrival and handed comprehensive menus. One of our party wished to avoid chillies and our waitress was very helpful in making suitable suggestions.

Friendly, attentive and delicious food in this unassuming (from the outside) restaurant just away from the main hustle of town. This place was recommended by staff at Blue Moon Massage on a busy Saturday. Town was packed (match day) and we didn't relish the crowds (or not getting in) in the usual hub of the city so we thought we'd try this place. Can't recommend highly enough! Plenty of choice and friendly, experienced staff (and chef) to talk you through the menu. It was quiet (without being dead). They do live music which we didn't see - only the empty stage a speaker system. Expect a laid back pace of service and cash only and you won't be disappointed let's say. There's a car park across the road which is £1 an hour if your can get a space too.

Been here for over 10 years now and very fond of this place. Never disappoints. Reasonably priced, friendly staff and extremely delicious, soft baked goods. They offer a variety of personalised birthday cakes and me and my family have been getting them every year from Breadpoint without hesitation, as the western cakes have always been too sweet for our tastebuds. Soft, light, fluffy and not overly sweetened, the birthday fruit cake (cream with almond slices on the sides) is their signature staple and 100% worth trying. I love their matcha roll, vanilla roll, egg tarts, custard pineapple bun and char siu buns. I've also been to a London bakery in Chinatown recently and the quality is on par with each other. I hope one day they can offer a slice of pandan cake too.

Six septa/octogenerians out for our 46th year of monthly dinners. Servie good, initial drinks good, poppadums good, starters good and main courses particularly good. In fact, a very good night.

Walked a long way to visit after seeing good reviews - only to find it shut - even though I had checked online that it was open. Best call ahead if you are making an effort to get there.

Me and my partner popped in Sunday afternoon so it was quite quiet but still a lovely atmosphere, staff were very friendly and helpful with questions regarding the menu. I had the salmon panang curry and it’s been my Roman Empire ever since, it’s my new fave Thai dish that I can’t stop thinking about, my partner had pad thai and he said it was very traditional and authentic
