Down to London/Chessington for business meetings and stopped here for a late lunch/early dinner before heading back home. Found it on google maps as it was close to our last meeting for the day, and tried it because we were intrigued by the name. The food was utterly amazing, but getting to the order point was problematic. Ordering and paying is done online through a QR code on the table — and cel service wasn’t great. Signed in through the guest wifi, which was only shared with us after we asked if we could just order directly, and got it sorted, but it took longer than it should have for us to get service; after the first issues, we would have appreciated a little more attentiveness to simply getting an order in for a meal. Drinks were ordered directly at the bar and paid for there, so it doesn’t appear that the food ordering and paying would necessarily HAVE to be done through an app. Portions were amazing, and delicious. The steak and ale pie could have fed a small family, and the salmon fish cakes were perfectly cooked. Drinks were beautifully done, and the IPA was great. The young man behind the bar seemed to have a bit of attitude, but the other staff we interacted with were helpful, responsive, and friendly. The atmosphere is hard to describe — plenty of space, and enough space between tables for privacy, without feeling like a diner. Decorated, it seems, with privacy in mind without losing the feeling of welcome and warmth.

Luke was serving us today and he was brilliant, he was very efficient and polite, we were served quickly and didn’t wait too long for our food

Wasn't heaving when we went. The food was amazing. Very well presented. The staff were very accomodating and friendly. Great atmosphere and food was decently priced. The allergy food we ordered came out quickly, as did the allergy dessert. But the other desserts (ice creams) took ages to come out and had to be reminded. Also, it would be a good place for families, if you don't mind straddling the toilet in the disabled bathroom! The after thought changing mat in the disabled toilets has been installed above the sink, so it's a challenge to straddle the toilet when you're only 5ft 1inch and the change mat is almost at your chest height! It's been tried and tested with our 2 year old and 5 month old......

Lovely food and it’s a lovely pub but if you read this, the toilets let you down. The ladies smelt as soon as you open the door. It needs a deep clean. Then it would be a 5

From being severed at the bar to being served at the table... our server Jake was great. A happy young guy, which is nice to see. Checking our food was ok, which it was and always is every time we've been here to eat. The atmosphere in the shy horse is a really cosy country feel. I just love coming here.

We recently visited The Shy Hourse and had a wonderful time with our family! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a gathering. The service was outstanding, with attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, and the menu is impressively extensive—there's truly something for everyone! We were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices after paying £23 for a Pizza in Chessington Word . making it an excellent value for the quality and variety offered. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and can't wait to return. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and a lovely time with family!

Have visited this pub many times and had good experiences but noticed that recently the pub has been going downhill manager is in the kitchen all the time (to save money ) lack of floor staff who are told to serve short pints to save wastege had a beef burger and as I had allergies had it plain and had an extra burger when it it came it was dripping in grease covered my clothes and the seat complained and was told you ate it no refined avoid this place

Shy horse has amazing staff very friendly and understanding. The food was delicious, lasagne we highly recommend and the chicken schnitzel both very delicious.

Great pub by a great group. Charlie was smashing the service when we were there - he engaged with the children for their orders and to talk to them about the rides they had been on at the theme park. Food was awesome (try the pie).

I went to this lovely pub on Friday, and was taken to my table by Sofia who was lovely and gave me good recommendations at the bar. Overall food was delicious and service was excellent - will definitely be coming back again.

Booked a table for 7pm. No member of staff. Waited 15mins to be served, no one came so left and went somewhere else. No waiting staff. No acknowledgement of customers. Disgraceful. Wont be coming back.

Our first time here and the food was absolutely amazing. Chris and Charlie were amazing waiters- they very attentive and made sure everything was to our liking. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I would definitely come here again. I had the fish and chips which was cooked to a perfect crisp.

Really great Sunday meal with big family. Everyone loved their food and portions were excellent. Starters of crispy chicken and calamari were delicious. I had sunday trio roast which was tasty. Son had signature burger which was delicious and the fiah and chips were brilliant. Served by Chris and Charlie who were friendly, attwentive and brilliant. Service from them was first class and we will definitely be coming back

I’ve been driving past this pub for 20 years and always thought to myself that I bet it would be nice … we finally tried it tonight on the way back from a family visit to chessington. As soon as we walked in the lady who greeted us offered the children Easter goody bags and to take part in an Easter egg hunt. So welcoming and definitely lovely for families. Food was lovely. Members of the team of staff were lovely. Highly recommend.

We had supper following a visit to chessington world of adventures and it was really convenient. The ambience was nice - lots of windows made it bright. Food was a bit underwhelming although my son enjoyed the pizza. Staff were really friendly.

Been to chessington theme park numerous times and can't believe never visited the shy horse. Food was outstanding really great venue and service from chris and Luke was friendly and great i will definitely be visiting again soon

We arrived as a party of 10 and were seated very quickly and introduced to our waiter Jake. He quickly took our drinks order. He then took our food order. I really liked the way he checked he had 10 meals on his order and that he double checked he had the correct meals. The meals arrived and unfortunately although the plates were very hot the vegetables on the plates were only Luke warm. Explained to Luke and he quickly took the plates away and brought them back (presume having microwaved them) with a new jug of gravy. Bar for this the Sunday lunches were extremely tasty and good quantities. Well done Jake for coping with a table of 10 that contained kids, elderly and a person with a strawberry allergy. We are not as easy bunch.

Very nice 👌 food was good, good menu and very nice friendly staff. Would also recommend for a Christmas 🎄 day meal.

Have been here for lunch a couple of times and the experience has been fine. This time went with buddy at just before 8pm on a Thursday . Bar was quite busy but there were plenty of tables and when our turn came we asked whether we order food at bar or if there would be table service. Bar staff not keen to take food order as they said the kitchen was very busy. Asked what time kitchen closes and was told 8:30pm. But would not take order at 8:00 pm So we just had a drink but could have spent at least £60 on food. Quite bizarre!. Looks like this business has more than enough customers and revenue. And I thought hospitality business were going thru a challenging period.

Staff was brilliant, friendly, and helpful. Fast service and food. The place is beautifully decorated and seating very comfortable. Very large seating outside to. Plenty of parking. The food was excellent, and quality ingredients, meat, and veggie burgers. Chips home made were lush.

6 of us came here for mother's day and Kelly was very helpful in booking it all for us. They were really busy as I would expect but the service and food was all on point. We will look forward to visiting again Everyone enjoyed themselves and were commenting on how much they enjoyed their food. Thank you 👍

Food was absolutely lovely , like restaurant qaulity , we just went on probably the worst day to go "mothers day " so extremely busy nit a table to spare , so bit of a wait for everything, but considering how busy it was, the food was still excellent ,would recommend.

Food was acceptable, ambiance was good. Light on vegetables. Would like plate to be about half full of vegetables. Service left a lot to be desired, it took 2/12 hours for a family two course lunch.

Had a lovely evening tonight with friends and family. The food was outstanding, and I will definitely return soon.

5 out of 5. Second day coming here. Last night with friends. Had the sea bass which was lovely. Then today I had the most amazing 3 course Mother’s Day meal ever. All 3 course were delicious and amazing. Food delicious, staff exceptional. Great time.

Just home from a wonderful mother's day meal, this was my first time eating here and whilst incredibly busy, the service was fantastic, the atmosphere was relaxed, everyone was super busy but friendly and helpful, even with my 1year old. Each dish came out hot and well presented, the food was delicious. We chose the sticky chicken, creamy mushrooms, roast trio, and chocolate trio! The best roast I've had in a long time! 👌🏻 As said, it was very busy (to be expected), but the team there today made it seem effortless. Thank you all for a wonderful 1st mothers Day meal!

Lunch with a friend, nice atmosphere, fantastic food & service. Had calamari to start then a lovely lamb shank with creamy mash, seasonal vegetables. This was followed up with a nice coffee and flapjack. Our server Abbie was very polite, caring and friendly would highly recommend visiting for all and it’s dog friendly which is a big bonus.

Amazing new menu, the signature burger was one of the nicest burgers I've tasted! Can't wait to try more!

Decent food though be aware of using the app ordering. We went with friends, ordered the same time. My friends ordered mains only, we ordered bar snacks and mains. First round food came quickly both for us (bar snacks) and our friends (main), when it came, I asked the waiter to bring the main as soon as they are ready, however 30 mins passed by, our friends nearly finished their main, no sign of our main course and kids were screaming for more food. I chased with another waiter and later got told they are starting to cook it now, and will be 10 mins (?!). When the food finally arrived, which was about 45 mins - 1 hour from ordering, the waiter told us they couldn't adjust the time for the main course becuase we ordered the bar snacks which got treated as starter. It sounded rather peculiar, and needlesstosay, it could have been a great experience but ended up with a frustrting one due to the long wait for food. Would recommend anyone eating there not to order starter/bar snack and main and/or desert together on the app unless you dont mind waiting.

We visited for the first time last weekend the food was great, atmosphere perfect, Chris and Charlie looked after us both, great guys and the bonus only a 15 minute walk from the hotel at Chessington. So good we used it both days of our stay

We had a large family birthday meet here on a Sunday. The Shy Horse sat us all together, were friendly, served good food which came out all in good time and they had no problem with our balloons or birthday cake. Thankyou it was a good afternoon.

We booked the Shy Horse for a Valentines evening, the tables were done lovely and the team that served us were fabulous, knowledgeable, super friendly and helpful. Overall the four of use had a lovely experience, the food was superb and consisted mainly of Garlic King Prawns & Chorizo as a starter followed by 10oz Sirloin, a couple of pints and Pinot blush. A lovely experience and will be back again. Thanks to all that made it a wonderful evening.

It was our first time at The Shy Horse, and it was a great experience. The food was lovely. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating of my family, including my disabled sister. They went above and beyond, especially Caroline, who served us all evening. We had a lot of people in our party with allergies and intolerances, and the chefs did a great job getting everything right for us.

We had a lovely visit. The food was fabulous and the staff friendly. We had booked with it being valentines day, the booking process was easy to use. We were offered a choice of valentines menu or all day. We chose the valentines menu. The menu choices were varied. I was pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and polite. We'll definitely be back.

Valentines advert on roadside invited in to book with a deposit per person. Perhaps as we hadn’t read the reviews. Music was house funk boom boom dj. If I hadn’t pointed out the bleedin obvious ref low volume and love songs the boom music from the dj cd set would have make everyone think it was a nightclub and would still be deaf! My partner’s main meal of fish was excellent. However the starter with roasted sour dough bread clear wasn’t the type we have ever had before tasting like normal bread. The hunters chicken was supposed to have triple fried chips - have you ever had triple fried cooked/chips they are crispy not soggy! The Hunters Chicken was awful- waiter said he had never had proper hunters chicken!! The mature cheddar was clearly USA plastic cheese slice and the crispy bacon was barely cooked, road kill would be a better description for the dish. Salad hmm why bother ? But was the best bit of the whole dish! Looking at others peoples plates I’m so glad I didn’t order the chewy steak. Many folk left lots on plates. Doggy bag taken by one - for the dogs perhaps. Overall very strange place (Shy Horse - SH stands for something else). I will Defo go elsewhere next year. Nearly didn’t get the deposit back (bit of Fawtly Towers caper from silly waiter returning it!) and waitress added bill up as per normal prices - not the £30 offer. Oh well Mothering Sunday next - I’ll goto a steakhouse thanks as at least they do know how to sell food! I would suggest doing basic pub food and not try to dress mutton up as lamb! It explains why it wasn’t very busy for one the busiest events for couples of the year! It’s probably not the staff at fault it’s what they are supplied by the chain and told to cook. There are places 100x better than this where I’m from in Kent! We didn’t leave a 10% tip!

The Shy Horse has an interesting menu... orchestrated by someone who clearly cares. Some good old fashioned choices on there too... pie, fish and chips, lasagne, etc. My fellow diner's pie looked brilliant and apparently that's exactly what it was. Another of my esteemed colleagues (he's not esteemed at all) had the paté starter which didn't look great but tasted fine... you know when your paté has been in the fridge for a while or the air gets to it and it turns grey? (SEE PHOTO) They wouldn't serve it at The Ritz... but I guess this isn't The Ritz. I ordered the lamb shank and a whisky because I'm a man and that's a manly order and I have to assert my uber masculine dominance in anyway I can on these business dinners. Anywho... the shank was £24.75 plus a nice whisky = £30 all in which isn't bad for London really. It was cooked beautifully and when it's done right I'll pay whatever. It wasn't the biggest shank I'd ever had but it just about did the job. The whisky came in a brandy glass... not sure why but it was clean, that's the main thing I guess. The staff were quietly efficient and attentive throughout. There is car parking too. I would certainly recommend it to others and if I find myself in the area again, I'll be back.

Very nice and cosy pub, and extremely dog friendly too. The food is very nice. What stands out is the pizzas and a non alcoholic drink called Country Garden. There is a large dedicated table for dog treats, water, blankets etc. Definitely a strong candidate to become our local pub

Great cosy atmosphere, warm welcome … great start . Pub is bright and spacious , service is quick and efficient. FOOD. 2 adults and 2 kids . For kids from their menu Beef burger with fries and bake beans (£1 extra for cheese, little bit pricey) : Burger was good, baked beans are baked beans 😊, portion of fries little bit small. 6.5/10 from the young gourmet . Chicken nuggets, fries (good portion 😉, maybe taken from the burger 😅) , veggie stick (what an idea with nuggets) . No much to say and a nice 8.5/10, the nuggets getting the leads!!! For adults : Pie of the day : Very good and tasteful, mash was lukewarm but with gravy on the top, that it, problem done . 8/10 from the grumpy wife ( can you imagine 8 from someone grumpy …) Ribeye: Ask for rare, was medium rare but the meat was juicy and very good . Mentioned it and they apologised and resolved it with a nice gift ☺️. Can happened Not always easy to control the cooking . Triple cooked fries were ok . 6.5/10 (8.5 if cooked rare ) So please do not hesitate with this place great value for money .

The menu is varied, with something for everyone; the food was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Absolutely delicious! It was very busy due to the time of year, however our food and drinks were served promptly without any delay. Worth mentioning that I have spinal/mobility problems and the staff really went the extra mile to make sure I had a comfy chair. Makes you feel valued as a customer.

Have previously visited and it was "okay". Visited again last night and was great! Think there may have been a change of ownership/management since my last visit. Duty/Bar Manager was very friendly. Menu choices were great. Price reasonable. Food was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. Service speed was perfect. (Admittedly it was a Wednesday eve and it was quiet.) Environment was lovely too with log fire on the go. Will definitely return for either a Sunday roast after a winter walk or summer lunch in their garden. They are dog friendly - but dogs need to be well behaved and on a lead.
