The Shy Horse in Kingston upon Thames

I ordered their £17.95 'signature burger', the patty was a cheap frozen patty that had been defrosted and heavily grilled (the type which is oddly white inside and you would get if you ordered a burger in a soft play centre). Took one bite and sent it back for the fish and chunky chips. The fish was ok, but the chips were obviously frozen and just chucked in the oven. Credit to the waiter who didn't argue with replacing the food, but good customer service doesn't make up for the rubbish food and high prices.

We were very impressed with the Sunday roast. I am usually sceptical of turkey, but it was phenomenal. The service was also quite good

Mixed experience We visited 10/12 for a late lunch have visited quite a few times and had no problems lovely staff Food this time was good but was spoiled by a male staff member His attitude was a bit arrogant and condescending regarding an mild allergy treated us as we didn’t know what we could eat or order Then whilst we were eating he must had gone outside for a break and had obviously been smoking when he returned he sat down down at an empty table next to us where we treated to the waft of stale cigarette smoke He sat there on his phone having a conversation whilst we where eating I would like to think this was unacceptable behaviour by a member of staff in a restaurant whilst people were eating and will be dealt with Spoilt our lunch and left us a bit dissatisfied

Not bad food, but we won’t be in a hurry to return because it was such slow service. We were there for 4 hours just to get a 2 course meal! And that was at 5pm - we thought going early for dinner would mean we’d get quick, attentive service but they seemed very short-staffed…

Jake was a fantastic host and made us feel very welcome. Food was great and live music on a Monday was a plus too. Highly recommend!

Best pork belly I have ever had, the ribeye, pies and signature burger are also absolutely perfect! Great beer and attentive wait staff! Chris, Kelly, Jake, Charlie and the whole team took great care of us. I will be coming back again soon! My new favourite pub.

Jake was our staff member/server at the Shy Horse (Vintage Inns). He was friendly & efficient; dealing with numerous diners (with different needs, e.g. warmer area, dietary issues & Blue Light Card / other sign-up discounts). Nothing was too much trouble for him & he was the ultimate gent - when a discount code didn’t work or a neighbouring table’s drink overturned. With his warm & professional demeanour, plus being unflappable & very diplomatic, he is an absolute boon to both the venue & the company. He made a catch-up with a good friend a most enjoyable Sunday afternoon (& the Roast dinner wasn’t too bad, to boot)!! Thanks

Had the pleasure of both eating here and performing here as a musician. The food was absolutely top notch. Cannot fault it at all. My friend had the burger which they described as the best burger they’d ever had! The staff were lovely, and the regulars and patrons were so welcoming and accommodating to perform to. Would love to go back

Drinks took ages and came after starters. Chips were cold so sent back. Drink ordered and had to remind as didn't arrive

When the atmosphere is better than the food and service, it's the clients that make the place and not the establishment. Food was poor, overcooked veg and bland Chicken and Pancetta pie. Overcooked roast for my partner and kids didn't enjoy the pizza much either. I had to repeat orders several times, drink orders had long delays. It wasn't even that busy. Very disappointed.

Had a marvellous time at this restaurant. The server, Jake, was polite and speedy and took my food allergy as serious as it is for me. They went above and beyond to make me feel safe eating there. The food was amazing too, both hearty and flavourful. Definitely add this location to your list of places to try!

Have been here a few times now, and the food has always been absolutely delicious. We visited on Sunday 17th November for a Sunday roast, having the roast sirloin of beef and myself the root vegetable Wellington, then an allotment crumble and a sticky toffee pudding which was fantastic. The service was spot on thank you Jake and friendly and we are already planning our next visit. Alway a friendly place to visit and certainly a must for the food.

Really quiet as it's a big pub so If only a few couples in there it seems really quiet. Food pretty good, staff lovely. Worth a visit especially if you come from Dorking /Reigate as its just before the ULEZ charge 😅😅

All the experience was fabulous. From the decoration and atmosphere to the service by the great Jack and finally to the amazing food. From starter to dessert everything was perfect. Cocktails were brilliant and the wine excellent with a reasonable price. Definitely my Sunday place to be.

Visited as a family of 4 after a busy day at Thorpe park as we were staying nearby to visit Chessington the next day. Ordered from the weekend set menu which was great value. 3 courses for £30. I got scallops and king prawns to start and then sea bass with mussels for main and my partner got the fritto misto and pork belly. My son got a pizza from the main menu, which he said was delicious and my daughter had a kids meal, which was also good. Came again the following night after chessington as we enjoyed it so much. Our server Jake was fab, we will definitely return if we are ever in the area. Would thoroughly recommend.

A large group of us visited the Pub on Wednesday night for food and drinks. The food was brilliant, but most impressively the staff were amazing. Jake was extremely welcoming, attentive, knowledgable, and managed to serve a large group extremely efficiently. We were really impressed with his attitude and great chat. Great work, Jake!

Popped in last minute for a meal. Chris was on the bar and taking orders for food. I would recommend the crispy chicken starter and the haddock fish cake. Quite delicious. We will return soon.

What a great Sunday lunch. We arrived at 12 as we had not booked. All the staff were helpful and got us seated right next to the fire. Jake was amazing and knew we needed the kids food out with the starters. He was also ultra happy. We will definitely be coming back. The food was great.

I came in yesterday after work and had a pint and a fish and chips with mushy peas. Sofia recommended it to me and it did not disappoint! I will definitely be returning soon.

I went here last weekend, for a cheeky roast and I was met with an enthusiastic waitress called Safia and had the best time. Could not recommend this place enough, the food, service and atmosphere was great! 10/10.

There is absolutely nothing I can fault about my visit here. From the min I entered the pub, I was greeted by friendly staff who had knowledge of the menu. Myself and guests all commented on the food. Left with our belly full, good food greatly executed. Fantastic well done, Shy Horse

We booked a table here to eat last night as a treat during our stay at Chessington World of Adventures Hotel. We were all so impressed by the whole experience, the staff were all exceptional - from the lovely lady who took our order, the friendly chatty waiters and the barman who gave us tips for the theme park. The food was served super quickly and was absolutely delicious, huge fish and chips, stunningly rich steak pie and the triple cooked chips were incredible. The pub itself is really lovely, clean, lots of space and a building with great traditional character. Even including a round of drinks for 4 of us and 3 puddings the price was very, very good for the standards and experience. Thank you to everyone for such a lovely evening.

We had a fantastic experience on Tuesday lunchtime. James & His team are always attentive and present a fantastic pub.

My partner and I had a three course meal here after a busy day out at CWoA and it was SO delicious!! Prices very reasonable and Sofia the waitress was lovely, very bubbly and down to earth - food came quick, she was such a sweetheart and made us laugh 😌

On the way home from chessington world of adventures. Thought it would be nice to have a nice meal before heading home. Pub had good potential. Food was unfortunately so over cooked and very disappointing. Kids nuggets were hard and the fish was hard and dry. Brie bites contained no brie inside them. Sorry to say I wouldn’t recommend. Toilet wasn’t particularly clean. I wanted to get the kids into pjs which someone else was also trying to do but I ended up doing it in the car because it really wasn’t clean.

Visited on Tue 27 th Aug. for lunch. Helpful and friendly staff, lovely menu, lots of choice. Good sized portions of tastey food. Great garden to enjoy the glorious sunshine, fabulous day out. Thanks to all the team at The Shy Horse. Definitely be back.

Traditional English pub. Not far from Chessington or Hobbledown Farm. Good pub grub and great service. Free parking and no need to put car reg in at counter for the parking. Would stop here again.

My partner and two children all came for dinner, we all very much enjoyed it all. Especially the home made pie 👌🏻 Sofia was very friendly and very helpful.

So we decided on a Roast on a Sunday Afternoon. Not particularly busy. We ordered the Trio. Meat was lovely and so were most of the veg, however the plate had 6 large roast potato's, to bulk the plate out, which were in edible and the sausages in the pigs in blankets were white, cooked but no colour on the skins and disgusting. We had a lady take our order, another gent dropped the food off, then nothing. We sat with our leftovers in front of us, for 20 mins, clearly with over a third of the food left, our knives and forks together to show we were done. All the staff avoided us.Eventually we were asked if we wanted dessert?!?!. We paid and were just finishing our drinks. Then the wait staff just kept walking past and looking at our table to check for tips, no eye contact. No disrespect but none was left as we received no service at all. Not usually a one for leaving a bad review, we prefer to praise, but this needed to be said.

We ordered a Sunday roast and a burger late Sunday afternoon the pub was not that busy. We used the app as sitting outside. The food came quickly but no one bothered to come and ask how the food was. One of the dish’s did not arrive at all. Both dish’s were not very hot. Chips very average. When we went inside to ask for a refund for the dish that did not arrive. We were only offered a free desert not refund for meals or offer of more drinks. Won’t go again. No one seemed to care.

Came in after a day out in Chessington. I was greeted by Safia who brought me to a table and looked after me all night. Fish and chips was divine, and so was the childrens pizzas. Her service made me want to return

DELICIOUS food, brilliant service, kind staff, great atmosphere, comfy seating. The shy horse is such a lovely pub and definitely worth the money. They also provided free wifi which was very efficient! I had a buttermilk chicken burger which was honestly the best burger i’ve ever eaten and i can’t recommend it enough.

5 of us dropped in after our ramble. Sadly no dry cider, the risotto bouilabaise which three of us ordered was a disappointingly small portion and contained no additional fish, though we were told it had. We had to order at the bar yet pub was quite empty. The chicken pie was described as bland. Only the fish and chips was fine. The desserts were disappointingly small too. I doubt we'll come back here in a hurry. Cedric

Have visited the Shy Horse on multiple occasions now, for lunch and dinner, and have always been served by Dylan and his fantastic team. Always so welcoming each time I pop in, and extremely helpful when it comes to allergens. Food is always lovely no matter what I order :)

Such a shame we won’t be coming back here, no welcome as you walk in, missing food on the plate but no one comes round, onion rings taste like grease portion size was small a tablespoon of mash? Hard piece of garlic bread, when we had finished a waiter took the plates and didn’t say a word to us, as we walked out no one said a word even though we said thank you! (No idea why we did to be honest)

Lovely place I walked in and was seated and then abbie came over and took our drinks order and was very polite and efficient the food was excellent I had the chicken curry!

Visited here on Monday 29th July. Staff were all welcoming, lovely atmosphere and food was amazing. My daughter had the Mac and cheese (she is hard to please and said how delicious it was) and my husband and I had the sea bass. All the dishes were piping hot and really tasty. One of the best pub meals I’ve had in a very long time. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.
