The Shropshire Inn in Stafford

Very disappointed that a vegetarian option wasn’t included alongside the Sunday roast. My family had a traditional roast and I would have liked all the veg and yorkshires with an alternative to meat. There was nothing much else to choose from. The roast was a disappointment too. Meat portions were stingy and the yorkshires were overdone making them dry and crumbly. Will not be returning.

Amazing food as always x opted for stone bass for hubby and salmon for myself, hubby said it was just amazing and he does love his fish, salmon was also fabulous. Starters and deserts were also gorgeous, will definitely be returning

My family & I visited the Shropshire for steak night in January. I can’t rate it highly enough. The steaks were cooked to perfection. Service was very good as always. The desserts were delicious. I’ve got to say it’s the best steak night I’ve been to in a long while. Well done to Jan, Stuart & the staff.

Four of us all had a superb experience, guy at front of house very friendly, made us welcome. Sirloin steak, pork tomahawk and steak pie wonderful. Sticky toffee pudding hubby said was best he had ever had. Rum and raisin brulee to die for. Beautiful grounds and interior. Will definately be back.

Impressed with the pub design not impressed with snack lunch or staff. Sandwich and chip lunch The cheese was flavourless and the chutney was scrapped on and then off.

Our family went to the Shropshire last night for our first meal indoors together since the pandemic, and we’re very pleased to say we chose to return to the Shropshire as its always been a favourite. As expected, it was a safe and reassuring environment given the times we’re in; our waitress wore a mask, tables were well spaced out and in general there was a calm and organised ambience in the restaurant. As usual the food was lovely, although the menu seemed a bit limited in choice as I didn’t fancy any of the starters and there was only one main course I was in the mood for. We opted for our normal chicken supreme (would recommend you ask for extra sauce though) which was succulent, fresh and came with some lovely veg; which is great because the meal felt like a lovely treat but not a load of junk like what you often find yourselves eating when you go out. The dessert selection was much more exciting as I was toying between a couple of the options, eventually going for sticky toffee pudding which was spongey and not too dense! Overall, a lovely night and kudos to the team for keeping the environment safe and carefully controlled in regards to covid, yet still feeling like the good times we knew there before!

Enjoyed a delightful meal here at the weekend wit( another couple. Every meal was delicious, well presented and staff attentive but not overbearing. Will certainly return. Highly recommended.

Visited as a work group of 10 (2 tables due to COVID) sat outside in the well maintained garden. Food was amazing, service brilliant and a really good atmosphere.

Phenomenal experience. As for the food well it’s is Absolutely phenomenal to an extreme high standard and presentation, atmosphere, and wait staff. Have been here multiple times, and every time is an amazing experience all around. I always take my out of town guests here, as the food is always superb. What a outstanding chef the sea bass and the chocolate dessert was out of this word Definitely a lifetime customer!

I read on the website that prices had not been increased but was shocked to see that the Sunday lunch has been by an unbelievable amount, and considering the times we are experiencing at the moment I am shocked, Also the fact that there is a different chef made it even more awkward as my wife has an allergy to butter and was told that everything was cooked in butter, is there no consideration for medical allergies and you end up with chips on a Sunday roast, very disappointed and we have been to the Shropshire many many times and celebrated special times there

We had our first visit to the Shopshire Inn in October and it certainly won’t be our last. It was a beautiful clean environment and we felt very safe. The staff was so helpful and accommodating especially Mike. The presentation and the taste of the food was out of this world. We will definitely be back after lockdown.

Went to the Shropshire Inn on Tuesday and had a fabulous meal, the food and service was excellent and very Covid secure. Please support them safely through the pandemic as they are so worth it.

As always, fabulous food, we had 3 course , from the main menu. We always enjoy our time at The shropshire. Service always spot on and attentive. As advertised this was rated highly. While the decor was fresh (especially the huge cutlery on the wall) The steak left a lot to be desired. I asked for rare it came medium rare, which for the price I felt was unacceptable, it came with peppercorn sauce, this was poorly seasoned and tasted more like gravy. The steak was also poorly seasoned. Then I opted for the cheese BOARD. This is how it is advertised on the menu. It came on a PLATE. While I didn’t complain I feel like the service was also to a low standard. The puddings were surprisingly good. But after such a poor start getting to pudding was a painful process. Certainly room for improvement. Especially at these times where the pub isn’t full for lunch and plenty of time to refine dishes to the highest possible standard.

Given a warm welcome at the inn. Very friendly and good menu choice. Food was very tasty and well presented. Hope to visit again.

I have visited this place a few times and it has always been consistent. My last visit was on the 20th of August (Thursday), as it’s their steak night, my absolute favourite meal! I went with a friend, we were greeted promptly by a very friendly member of staff and showed to our table. The order was taken quickly and the waiting time was reasonable considering how busy they were. Both our steaks very cooked perfectly to our liking, desserts were delicious too. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.

We were waiting for our meal for over an hour, We asked for drinks menu and the waitress said “no” and walked off and carried on speaking to other customers,The meal came they didn’t once ask us if it was okay, I finished my drink whilst eating tried to get their attention but they looked and ignored me,When the waitress came over he had no mask on and was bent over our table to take the plates away, Asked for the bill he walked past and said “you paying by card” whilst looking ahead walking away from us we didn’t know if he was talking to us then brought the card machine over and we were paying cashOverall rude obnoxious service and not worth the paymentI was also on the toilet for the rest of the night due to the chicken wrapped in Parma ham and came and looked like a starter very small portion for the price Highly not recommend!!

Lovely evening in the restaurant first time since lockdown was eased. Very well organized, felt safe and well protected. Food was very good and beautifully presented.

Been in a few times since lockdown lifted. Food and service on opening night was fantastic after such a long period off. Tables well spaced and good choices on menu. It’s obvious that the owners really care about this pub and the customers. Everything is done well and that can be seen with the new outside tables and immaculate garden. Will be back next week to try the new summer menu!

My wife and I attempted to have lunch and waited at the restaurant door to be seated as signs instructed. After a couple of minutes and no sign of staff we walked around the building following signs for the bar. We were met with a locked gate and turned back to the restaurant door. After another wait at the door we proceeded into the building to the bar to rouse staff to our desire to eat. We were then confronted by a staff member who reprimanded us for going to the bar and argued that we had not been waiting and that he was there, which he had not been. We left after he rudely asked 'what do we want?' and continued to argue with us whilst removing his face mask that we had not been waiting and that WE were rude! This I would suggest, is most definitely not how to greet guests or indeed have them return.

Our second meal here since they were allowed to open on 4th July. Food was excellent, all of the social distancing requirements and hand sanitation are in place. Very safe place to be. Service was also up to the usual standard that we have come to expect from Stuart and his team. Unfortunately for Stuart, a couple arrived who did not want to wait to be seated or comply with the social distancing one way system. Very obnoxious man who was very unreasonable to Stuart. No consideration given to these difficult times and the criteria that need to be adhered to in order to keep everyone safe. I sincerely hope that Stuart and his team do not come across such ill mannered people again.

Visited here with family on the Fish night. Value for money was excellent and fish was so fresh and food tasted great. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Glad to be back in our local enjoying a meal, menu has great choices and changed every few days. Adhering to social distancing and new sanitation rules, so felt safe and enjoyed being back in the restaurant. Beer garden well spaced out and friendly at a distance

Wonderful welcome to a beautiful clean village restaurant.Great choice of menu, cooked to perfection.5 of us dined with ages from 16 to 70s and a couple in between.The mackerel starter was amazing. 2 had steaks - wonderful. One duck and one lamb- great and my chicken was fantastic....as was my dessert.Thank you

We had the most amazing evening at the Shropshire Inn, hubby had the steak which he said was cooked to perfection (med rare) and very tasty, I had the gammon and that was also perfect, the chips, salad etc all freshly prepared. Portions very generous. Too full for pudding really but the deconstructed lemon meringue sounded too tempting to miss so we ordered one & two spoons..it was just out of this world taste wise..lovely. We highly recommend this restaurant as the ambience was perfect, food presentation & taste excellent and the staff very friendly & smart, the restaurant manager very attentive. Top marks to the whole Shropshire team. We will definitely be back....thanks for a superb evening.

Attended early on Valentines night, loved arriving to see the place had been decorated especially. Heart Balloons and chocolate truffles on all tables. The set 3 course meal was beautiful! Best meal we've had in Staffordshire by far! Would reccomend to anyone.

Can’t beat this place for Sunday lunch, top quality at a very reasonable price. Starters were good.....the main was fantastic again.....perfect beef, perfect roast potatoes, perfect Yorkshire pudding.....the list goes on. Once again a great Sunday roast followed by just the best pudding you could ask for. Try this place, you won’t be disappointed. I didn’t take any pics of the main event as my enthusiasm took over

There were 4 of us tonight, and i have driven past here on quite a few occasions, and it looks impressive, so decided to give it a try, on entering we were greeted by Michael and the bar staff, and the bar seating area is a nice area, there is a good choice of beers, and it wasn't long before we were shown to our table, the white onion soup with wholegrain mustard was a winner, my friend declared his fillet steak lovely and his partner said her hake was also nice, but i didn't think my butterfly tandoori chicken had been marinated long enough to get the taste, and it wasn't very good value for money at £15,and the chips were very dry, my wife didn't like her gammon steak, she said it was stringy and had the same problem with the dry hard chips, my friend didn't like the so called cheesecake, why do places have to serve DECONSTRUCTED sweets when the original one's work so well? all in all michael and the serving staff were superb, it is just a shame the food didn't live up to their standard.

I visit here on a regular basis because obviously I like the food but also enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the place. There is a fairly extensive lunch menu at a reasonable price, which is comparable with other similar eateries in the area. Very tasty food served in sufficient quantity so you don't leave feeling hungry. I'm usually served by Mike who is very welcoming and is clearly a professional at his job. Well worth a visit - I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

i recently joine the celeration of a very special birthday with 22 people, I was extremely impressed with the quality of service as well as the food. Despite it being such a large party everything ran like clockwork and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They went a long way to making a special evening for a very special person. Three of us went beg of January - so relatively quiet. Very nicely furnished inside food and service was good. Might be a bit noisy when full - but will definitely return.

Went for Thursday special steak night, special price for 2 meals and a drink each. Steak is superb, service attentive without being overwhelming and the food is always served piping hot. Nice atmosphere highly recommend you visit.

Lovely restaurant, smart interior. We were shown to our table by a helpful, efficient and happy young lady. Excellent food. We were not rushed and enjoyed the couple of hours there with old friends. Good sized car park. We would certainly go back.

Havent been here for about 10 years. The first thing that struck me was what a beautiful room it was, relaxed spacious seating, soft lighting, really nice ambiance. Then a lovely guy came to bring menus and take our drinks order. Food was superb, and a good range on offer. My husband said, 'theres at least 3 more things I want to go back and try. I'd got back for the cheesecake you had - it was amazing.' That sums it up. We tried tandoori chicken, fish and chips and pheasant - all excellent, as was the beer and wine. Staff thoughtful and conscientious but allowing time to relax. Just wanted to say thanks for making our family meet up a great evening. We will return!

Lovely setting., well decorated interior, met on entry and shown to table. Coats taken and hung up for us. Waiter was very polite and efficient, food was delicious and well presented. Overall a very good experience, well done all.

I went near with my partner as it was my birthday we had a nice welcome ,we were shown to our seat & had a menu not much of choice so it did not take long to choose we did not take long for our meal but I was not impressed as there was very little not much veg so it did not take long to eat & was going cold then we decided to have a sweet we ordered it but when it arrived it was very different from the menu the menu as very different than what it said not impressed a bit so I am very sorry will not be going there again & will not recommend .

A quiet January Monday Lunch. The waiter/owner was friendly and the prices weren't bad nor portion size. The calamari starter was good and so was my butterflied tandoori chicken.

Had a lovely meal here Xmas Eve with family, delicious food, good price and the kids loved It too. Had a quick 20 minute walk around the Main Street Christmas lights before heading home. Generous size car park which has a warden on with a check list to ensure you have a meal booked which is great.

Were looking forward to our visit, but were very disappointed with the whole experience. Staff not at all welcoming, food looked nice but was on the whole tasteless and portions were very small. Not impressed and will not be returning.

We had a lovely meal the service was fab and the decor is fantastic. The food was good value for money and presentation was lovely, we will be definitely be visiting again.

Quick pit stop from a very busy day, we love the Shropshire always pleasant, Stu and his team run a well oiled machine we called in unannounced the Jack's went under all the team went into overdrive 2 coarses we were out turned around refuelled ready to go xx

Very disappointed in my visit here, I had high hopes. The food was good, apart from the vegetables which appeared to be frozen or reheated, but the staff rushed us, seemed keen for us to leave and overall were very snooty and rude. For this reason I would never go back.

What an absolutely delightful experience, by far the best roast I’ve had in ages!

Busy Sunday lunch at this pub, but I have a problem with eating due to mouth cancer and need lots of sauce with my meals. I ordered the fish, but it did not have sufficient sauce. The chef found time to make a small jug of parsley sauce especially for me. Thanks, it made my meal.

Four of us had a wonderful lunch at The Shropshire inn on Friday. The room was immaculate and the food was excellent, well presented and served to us by a charming your man who had a really friendly manner and could not do enough to help us. We all enjoyed our difference meals and would certainly go again.

Lovely place, great food, nicely set up with settees etc in bar area. Went for lunch with a friend, didn't feel rushed etc so it lasted 5 hours ! Plenty of parking well worth a visit, its a little too far for me (over 3.5 hours) but when i meet up with friend again will most certainly go back. Keep up the good work.

Having been recommended whilst visiting the area, my wife and myself visited in the early evening, and were very pleased with both the service, quality of the food served, and friendlyness of the server. We will certainly visit again, when next in the area.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the locality. The decor and ambience are delightful and comfortable as well as being elegant. The service is excellent and the food is varied and really good.

I have eaten here a few times and they have never disappointed me. The food is always excellent and the Chef even adjusted a meal to accommodate a vegan guest. Absolutely wonderful place and I would definitely recommend.

Clean and well planned out restaurant, with a bar area if you want something from the bar menu. We have recently moved to the area and this is very quickly becoming our local eatery. Great menu and they use a lot of locally grown produce. Staff always friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Lots of parking spaces and easy to find.

Two friends came up from Sussex for a visit. We had a lovely lunch - the food was tasty and freshly made. A good choice on the menu and very generous helpings. Kind and courteous attention. All in all we enjoyed our meal very much.

Have the Shropshire Inn a call with ten minutes notice and luckily they had a table. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table which was bright and spacious.

We dropped in for Sunday Lunch and was not disappointed. Excellent food, variety of vegetables, even extra gravy, without having to ask. Lovely place, spotlessly clean. Very friendly and efficient staff. Will definitely visit again and have recommended to family & friends.

Had roast for 4 all were superb.....beef was beautiful, perfectly cooked, tender and tasty. I was also lucky enough to try my better half's turkey as portion too big for her....the best roast turkey I have ever had! Tender, succulent tasty. Service without fault, really quick - but surpassed by great meat and veg.

Very light and airy. Staff were very friendly with good service. Food was very nice but a bit pricey. Need to offer more choice for lite bites for lunchtime

Where to start. The setting is very stylish, the greeting was very friendly yet proffesional and warm,and despite one set of eaters being a little later than planned, the ones who were there were treated with no bother or fuss. Menu looked great and service was exceptional. But ... once you tasted the food .... oh boy .... Did you know you'd made the right choice. Melt in the mouth beef, succulent turkey, large crispy Yorkshires, perfect madly of veg, not too much, not too little.

Had the pie of the day which happened to be chicken. It was served piping hot with peas and chips. It was superb, no complaints.Good value for money.

Visited for the second time for dinner. The order was taken quickly and food was served at good pace. All the dishes (we had three courses) were nicely presented and very delicious. We will definitely be back again.

Came to this restaurant for my husbands birthday meal. Welcoming and friendly staff with lovely food. I had a delicious duck dish, hubby and eldest daughter had steak whilst granddaughter had Mac and cheese. Hearty sized portions and nicely cooked. Didn’t have a starter as I’m a pudding girl so wanted to leave room. Granddaughter had a chocolate sundae, which she couldn’t finish and I had creme brûlée, nice but not the best I’ve ever had. Cost wise, I’d say is muddle to high depending on what you have. As always drinks cost but when it’s a special occasion I don’t mind. I would definitely come back.

Back in April a friend and myself visited this restaurant and received first class service and had an excellent meal. this week we decided to call in again to see if the service and food was just as good. we were very surprised when the waitress remembered us. Once again we were made very welcome and very well looked after, and the food once again was first class. If you have never been here then we highly recommend that you visit the place. A special thank you to all the friendly staff, and we shall be going back again..

Visited the Shropshire inn Tuesday night for our anniversary, friendly welcome, attentive service and delicious food. I had the sea trout (fish of the day) my husband had fillet steak, relaxing atmosphere and attractive decor. Definitely visit again.

A last minute booking was utterly delightful. Fabulous food, generous portions and great service. Vegetarian was happy, as was the meat eater and 3 can-be-fussy kids! Would definitely visit again.

We came on a Wednesday night and sat outside in the garden to have dinner. We were told that it was OK to be served outside but when we went to order drinks at the restaurant's bar, the waitress asked for us to pay for the drinks and meal ahead or leave a bank card being the bar. This was very insulting as it meant they assumed we would live without paying! When the food arrived, the meat was OK but the vegetables looked very tired and from the day before.

Great visit to this restaurant. Thanks to the chefs for the amazing steak and calamari, well worth the price. Great service from Hannah and the team.

Our son and daughter in laws wedding reception was held here. The arrangements done by the pub where excellent. The food for about 80 people was beautifully served and bought out so we all ate at the same time. The table decorations were lovely and the staff could not do enough for us. All in all this made for an absolutely wonderful day for our family an friends.

The food here is so good. It’s our local even though we live a car journey away! We’ve eaten in the evenings inside and in the afternoon in the garden. The staff are very welcoming. You must visit here.

This was a first venture here for our group that holds Summer and Christmas lunches in various locations. The atmosphere inside and out, (Thanks to the great weather), was excellent. The food was good, efficiently served and well received by the diners. We normally have several people with complaints in a group this large, but there were very few adverse comments and there was a consensus that we would return. the layout of the venue makes it difficult to feel like group occasion, but everyone enjoyed this year's summer lunch.

We had booked well in advance for a party of 20 people on a Saturday night and we were well looked after.

Having eaten at this establishment on many occasions in the past when visiting the area I was disappointed with my last visit. My disappointment was with the main course which on this occasion was the fish and chips with peas. The fish was fairly acceptable but the accompanying chips left something to desire. When the plate arrived at the table the chips looked okay however once the top serving had been removed one was left with what I can only describe as the "scapings" of the left overs. The chips at the bottom of the dish in which they were served were overcooked, burnt and not at all appetising.

Having been very regular diners at The Shropshire we have recently been less often.
