The Fitzherbert Arms in Stafford

The pie pastry is inedible rock hard. The meat in the Beef and Ale pie was overcooked and the beef in the beef and blue cheese was undercooked. Would be better to cook tender slow cooked beef with a pastry topper. The Fish and chips were delicious. Lovely pub, great atmosphere. Staff are fabulous.

The pub was unusually crowded for a weekday but we still found a comfortable table and the service was excellent. Consistently good food and a wide variety of choice both in terms of size of meals and variety. Always an enjoyable place to visit - 1 of the best in the area!

Visiting the Fitzherbert made a special occasion even better!! We spent an enjoyable (lazy) Sunday here for a family friends 50th birthday - staff couldn’t have been any nicer or more attentive on thisbusy Sunday Food was amazing (if a little pricey) with a good variety of dishes / roasted meats to choose after and the drinks were well priced and served very fast to our group of 6. This was my first visit, but I will definitely be going back for more decor; It was a pleasant surprise, with a mixture of tile and carpeted flooring, so very 🐾 dog friendly too

Simply superb. Having had the privilege of dining in many a beautiful restaurant it has been an absolute pleasure to dine at the Fitz. The steak and chips is the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. A must must must visit.

Food was lovely and the staff were great. Prices were standard too. However they do not cater for children. They don't have high chairs and the " children's menu" doesn't seem official and just verbally given when you ask. We went for a birthday party. The staff were fantastic and we have a lovely time. I'm glad our children weren't any younger. (Youngest was 2).

Sublime food, I mean really fabulous. Attention to detail was astonishing. Everything about our dinner was perfect. This is our new favourite place, I can't believe I've not know about it til now.

I do love the Fitz, 95% of the time the food is good! We have had the odd meal that hasn’t been to our taste. We had curry from the menu that’s on this week, I didn’t really enjoy it. There was hardly any beef in it, it tasted like something I could make myself at home… I was quite disappointed, but generally every other visit has been good. I do find the menu very limited and quite basic with some off choices. For example, the sauce with the chicken supreme doesn’t really go. And there seems to be a lot of fish dishes. The staff are always friendly and welcoming! Definitely better for a mid week visit, Sundays are practically a no go due to the popularity.

I can't comment on the Fitzherbert Arms itself (but will definitely check it out now) but I can comment on how lovely their staff members are. I was stranded on a cold Staffordshire country road late last night after a hit and run with a truck. Whilst I was waiting for the recovery vehicle the manager from this pub who saw my hazard lights on stopped to check that I was OK and offered assistance. He was super kind, very friendly and the gesture was very much appreciated. He was definitely 'good people'. We need more people like this in the world - thank you!

Beautiful, cosy country pub. Great menu. My husband was a little disappointed that his latte came in a tiny tea cup which didn't represent good value for money, but my latte was fine, so otherwise, another pleasant visit.

We were having a family special birthday Sunday lunch, was never told when we arrived they were short staff and food would take a while. There was 15 of us I had to go to the bar to order our food having waiting, starters took an hour and mains more than another hour having chasing it. One of our party has dementia and is not good at waiting making it stressful for us. To cut a long story short very very dissatisfied and disappointed ☹️

We took my parents for the New Year Gala dinner and the team didn't fail to impress. Our first visit when travelling to the area, but it will not be the last!! The service on such a busy event was professional but still friendly and welcoming. As a vegetarian I was initially impressed by the options on the menu, which were as good as they sounded - properly planned vegetarian dishes, and not just altering a meat based dish; additional I'm unable to drink alcohol and for each part of the dinner that was alcohol based the team presented me with a lovely alternative - very impressive!! Thanks for a great evening!!

I visited this pub /Restaurant a few times in December with friends and family. The steak pie and chips is always a crowd pleaser ! I had the turkey dinner and chocolate torte from the Christmas menu and it was really good and on boxing day , the rib eye steak, which was cooked to perfection! The food is great and the service is always efficient with friendly staff

Great food loverly place BUT Had a meal here over the Xmas period and can't fault the food that much abit pricey may be but haho, Pub was nice and cosy with the fires lit and comfortable But one of the bar staff/ manager is so rude and abrasives to the customers it's embarrassing lookerly we got service from some very nice staff and were otherwise pleased

Just on a drive back from the lakes district and looking for lunch…. Found this because it was not too far off from the M6. What a delight! Wonderful pub with extraordinary quality of food. We loved it! Make sure to make a stop if you can… really worth the time!

This was our second visit with our friends who live locally. The first visit was lovely so we thought we would go for Sunday lunch. The food arrived promptly and with sizeable potions, the only improvement was the plates weren’t warm so the food got cold quickly - but the food was tasty

What a find the Fitzherbert Arms was! Lovely food, cooked very nicely; so nicely we went for all three courses! Perfect service with just the right amount of interaction. And a great atmosphere, which made our annual Cycli Christmas meal a real treat. Oh, and did I mention the lovely real ales on tap - Cheshire Plains Porter was the one to have!

Food was ok but beef slightly chewy and the turkey was slightly dry and tough, but all good sized meals. Would go again but fairly expensive. Lovely place and atmosphere, very busy for Sunday lunch. Service was good and two of us for a msin main course and a bottle of wine was £82 for two people.

Driving past on diversion and just had to stop as it looked so inviting, fabulous ambience, lovely staff, great service. We will definitely return.

Clean &tidy food very nice.staff friendly. The only fault was that they have a very small carpark.

This was our first visit to the Fitzherbert Arms and we went with a group of friends on a chilly Tuesday night. They don't accept bookings and we initially struggled to find an empty table for 6 but eventually managed to put one together, it is obviously popular with locals. Inside it's a lovely cosy old pub (helped by the open fire) with quirky decor and mismatched furniture, you immediately feel at home. To start we had 2 sharing plates and there was more than enough for our party. All of the main courses appeared genuinely home made and we could not fault them, especially the 'legendary' steak pie which really was memorable. There was a good choice of cask beers and a decent range of moderately priced wines. Somewhere to return to but it is a bit out of the way for us.

Have eaten here and love to call for a drink Sunday afternoon. I find the menu rather solid English food and would like lighter options but that is merely my opinion. The food is great and love the ambience. 25 Nov 23 OMG no heating, freezing cold. Problems with the food, late service. I could go on, however we had our own great company which was in the favour of the establishment as the overall dining experience was pretty poor. Should be better!!!!

Stayed locally, again, as looking to move back to the area. No point looking anywhere else to eat and drink as so local and great all round pub. Friendly staff, great beers, great food.

Lovely venue and food was good, however I was standing at the bar waiting to be served for a very long time , twice! and the second time I got fed up and went , at which point there was a queue, as I and another customer left a guy returns from the back totally engrossed in playing with his phone , I would have spent a lot more money if could of got served, I'll give this place another chance, but if its the same I shall not be visiting again .

This is a really well presented pub. Good selection of real ales and excellent wine list which caters for all tastes. Varied menu. Well cooked ribeye and excellent mushroom risotto. Well worth a visit .

Food was exceptionally good, as was the ambience. Staff were friendly and helpful even though the place was packed and they were rushed off their feet. I was particularly impressed with how quickly our meals arrived, given how busy they were. Will definitely return - can't wait to try the Sunday roast!

Great meal, great atmosphere we really enjoyed ourselves, we were a little nippy although there was a roaring fire we couldn’t really feel the benefits. Puddling slightly disappointing, rice pudding was a very small portion but great quality and the homemade Strawberry Jam was amazing, my wife also thought her Jam Roly-poly was a little dry and hard. Staff are amazing very friendly and professional. Despite the puddings we thought it was a lovely lunch and would go back. The picture attached is the sharing board for two and highly recommend.

Spacious pub. A little cold when we arrived but the log fire soon warmed us up. Excellent choice of food and beer. All the food was delicious. Friendly service. Good value for money.

Visited to celebrate my partner passing his exams. They made it so special and created an amazing pudding for him with ‘congratulations’ written on it! I had a delicious Stilton and walnut pâté for starter and partner had chicken wings - they were both flawless. I had catch of the day for main and honestly it was the best fish I’ve eaten, it was so soft and flakey! Partner had a burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Couldn’t fault anything.

Have been three times over the last six months or so. The belly pork and the lamb rump in particular have been extremely good.

Unfortunately our experience was very poor due to this venue NOT being child friendly!! There were no high chairs when I asked I was told none were on site and we don't mind if you bring your own!! No children's menu and asked to keep the child quiet as it may upset other diners as children weren't allowed after 7pm. We were there for a special occasion and booked for 6pm no one mentioned at booking the situation regarding children, if they had we wouldn't have booked and it was a large booking. If it hadn't been such a special occasion with people comming from afar and a large party of us I would have left there and then. Service was very slow starters came 1 hour and 20 mins after we arrived!! The food was OK expensive for what it was. My husband went to the venue the next day early evening just after 7pm and couldn't get to a seat for prams and children so much for no children after 7pm and upsetting customers. Our special occasion was spoilt by their attitude towards children and family dinning and comments towards our situation. Other diners commented how good our child was who was in his pushchair the whole time!! Very disappointed expected better from this venue, would not return especially with children.

Really disappointed with my favourite pub. I am a regular and always take my dog. Now dogs are being confined to a smaller and smaller part of the pub. We were asked to move tables mid way through meal as we had a dog; to find there was no table to accommodate 4 people where dogs allowed. Please, please can they make a decision are they a dog friendly pub or not!! It is a country pub and has always welcomed dogs in the past. Unfortunately new management has made some unpleasant changes.

Another wonderful meal at the Fitz. Never fails to provide excellent food and service.

Delightful country pub with fantastic atmosphere. Pleasant and most helpful staff. Food exceptional with generous portions, especially the Fitzherbert Meat Pie. But traditional Sunday Lunch leaves a lot to be desired. The meat was tough and chunky and tasteless. I hope they’ve changed their choice of meat supplier

Usually enjoy the food at The Fitz but unfortunately not today due to the amount of flies that I had to swot whilst eating. The amount was off putting and I heard other customers commenting too.

Disappointed that meeting my sister here for lunch was spoiled by the loud intrusive musac playing throughout the pub. I explained that I had a hearing disorder and asked to have the sound turned down to no avail. Later I asked another member if staff, but the request was ignored. We won't be going again.
