A substandard meal and service, we had a 45 minute wait for our main course, the plates and food were barely warm. The food was badly cooked and presented, vegitables floating in water, weird roast potato's. no seasoning etc. Desserts were good but within minutes of clearing the table we were asked to vacate the table, including an unnecsessary personal comment. We still hadn't finished our drinks and could have been invited to move to the bar.

It's so nice when you go to a pub with a bit of originality and good cooking. We came on a Sunday and sat in the smart but comfy restaurant area. Had a starter of whitebait and bread/olives board which was yum and delicious. Then roast dinners; beautiful pink beef, vegetables that were actually tasty and not overcooked, AND crispy yorkshires - also treated ourselves to a side of pigs in blankets which traditionally I only have at Christmas but it was worth breaking my rules for. A nice short menu of desserts which we all loved and which definitely weren't the usual suspects you get everywhere else. This place even got my kids eating salt and pepper squid off the kids menu!! I don't know what it's like as a pub to drink in but if anyone gives the cooking here a bad review they need to look hard at themselves before doing so! Thanks for the food and the friendly welcome.

Community owned pub in a quiet village, a little off the beaten track. The sign on the door as you enter says "we hope you like dogs" and there are several friendly spaniels which call this place home. It remains a multi-roomed pub, but but they have all been quite heavily modernised. There are three or four ales on offer including, commendably, some from the very local Uttoxeter Brewery. The focus, however, is very much on dining, although I am sure anyone coming just for a drink will be warmly welcomed. There is a high quality menu including pub staples such as Fish & Chips, burgers and steaks plus some more interesting items such as Roasted Rump of Lamb or Pan Fried Seabass, all prepared to a very high standard. My personal choice was the Seabass, which was excellent.

We visited for Sunday lunch on a very busy Sunday afternoon to meet with some friends we hadn’t seen in a long while. The food was absolutely excellent, really good roast pork on my part and there were very good reviews of the chicken and ham pie and the fish and chips from elsewhere on the table. Dessert was not quite as good (white chocolate bread and butter pudding) - we shared it and were thankful we did as it was a huge portion. Kids ice cream sundaes went down very well however. The only downside was a long wait on food, but it was full in both the pub and the restaurant, so we understood. Overall, a good experience.

A birthday gift voucher bought us to this pub come restaurant, knew it would be a good venue as the person who gave it only eats in good places. Were we disappointed? Not at all. Bar area, clean and well presented, Service was very good at the bar, show to out table and menus given. Staff very polite and efficient. Orders placed, food arrived within 15 minutes. Nicely presented and plentiful on all courses. Not much more to add other than a well worthy place for a meal or just a drink. Well done The Shrewsbury Arms, see you again soon.

The food was excellent. I had the steak, ale mushroom pie which was packed to the top. The wife had the seabass, which had plenty of sauce. Very busy restaurant with a little too much noise, but not annoyingly so. We had a large largest party and couldn't really converse with a lot of them. But heyho, the evening was very enjoyable. Service was good and nice atmosphere. Food needs a bit of improvement. Our food took ages to come and it’s just average pub food - not worthy of the prices they charge imo. Starters are all over £7. I had the pie which was £16 and mediocre. Our friend had the £30 steak and said he wished we had booked the uttoxeter steakhouse instead. Pub had a good atmosphere and definitely a nice place for a drink in the evening.

Had an amazing first visit for lunch here!! As soon as we walked in we had a very warm welcome and was asked if we wanted to sit in the restaurant or the bar, which was really nice to make the decision ourselves. We sat at a lovely table in the bar by the open fire and opted to share a whole chicken, which was amazing and so tender. There were lots of sides to choose from to have with the chicken and the sauces we choose were homemade and also amazing!! The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We can’t wait to go back!!

I will caveat this by saying that I did not go to The Shrewsbury Arms, my experience is purely attempting to reserve a table. I do however think this is useful as judging from the reviews here, I did not expect the experience I received. I would like to give some benefit of doubt that the lady on the other end of the phone was perhaps having a bad day, but I have never been so confused by an attempt to book in a table. You would have thought I was kicking the ladies cat rather than attempting to enquire about a table in the bar based on her reaction. It is more than acceptable to not have space, it is a quick polite phone call to say sorry we can't accommodate you. I worked in hospitality for over 5 years myself and understand the pressure and patience involved. Train your staff better, or if you own the place, I would suggest this is not the business for you.

This was our first ever visit after found this pub on Tripadvisor despite it only being 15 mins dive from us. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was how busy it was and how young all of the staff were. These young people were ALL exemplary and could teach many of their seniors a thing or two about service. They were all lovely without gushing. We were particularly impressed by David who was relatively new but doing a sterling job. We had five courses between us. Of all five courses I could only make a minor criticism of the way that the squid had been cooked even though it was ok. Everything else was really excellent. The cherry on this cake is the deserts which are all made on the premises; none of the pub standard freezer to microwave rubbish! They had three real ales on tap which all seemed to be kept well. Only 11 miles from where we live we had never heard of Kingstone but my wife decided to book an early evening meal here based on the pub being in the Good Beer Guide. Initial thoughts on entering were that the pub was friendly with a comfortable feel about it and friendly staff and customers. I’m going to have to split my review into three. Firstly the beer - I had a porter from the Uttoxeter Brewery and a blond from Dancing Duck in Derby. Both well kept and excellent. Secondly the food - my starter was salt and pepper squid with a chilli sauce dip. Crispy and delicious. My main a smoked haddock risotto with broccoli. Now my wife is a vegetarian so I’m not allowed stinky fish in the house so I will always pick it in a restaurant. This was absolutely gorgeous and topped with a perfectly poached egg which when cut through dripped yolk down into the rice. Food porn at its best. Thirdly the staff - all young ladies serving in a very busy environment but so beautiful, friendly, efficient and kind. Where do all these lovely girls come from? I may have to move to Kingstone (just don’t tell the wife).

Lush pub, just popped in for a couple of beers, staff and landlord/owner couldn't be friendlier and more accommodating. Well worth a stop if you're nearby
