Excellent find - a must visit - 5 tables only in a very secluded bay. A great experience. Highly recommended - well worth the side-track.

Genuine no-nonsense local fresh seafood. A remote cafe restaurant on a dead end road in an authentic west Highlands location. I've enjoyed seafood all over the world and this is up there amongst the best. Not a massive menu, just fresh and unassuming from a friendly local business. I had a sea food platter with langoustines. Just simply excellent. Also dog friendly and homely atmosphere right next to a little boat landing. Been travelling to the area for 40 years.

Fabulous dinner made super fun by our energetic and attentive server. Fresh-as-you-can-get-it seafood, which my wife enjoyed. That was tempting, but I went for an aged Angus ribeye, cooked perfectly. One of the best meals you’ll get on the NC500.

Excellent homemade foods. Predominantly seafood and fresh from their catch. So, out of season fayre not available. So happy about that! Stunning setting, over looking the sea and watching the next catch come in. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Clean toilet facilities. All foods ordered were of excellent quality and tastes. Chatty and attentive staff. So, glad we found it and took the effort to reach. Highly recommended.

Excellent locally sourced seafood. Great value, quality ambience and friendly knowledgable staff. Table for 4, 2 shared seafood platters - langostines, lobster, crab, smoked salmon and mackerel served with crusty bread, fresh salad and dressing and round of drinks for £40 per head.

We visited with our friends on a sunny Friday evening. The location was fantastic and the whole experience was brilliant. The food was excellent - between the four of us we had lobster, the seafood platter and goats cheese. The service was top notch and the owner (Julian) even came over at the end to show the giant crab they had caught earlier in the day! Would recommend if you are visiting this fantastic part of the world.

A real hidden gem situated adjacent to the boat departure for Handa Island. Small but perfectly formed with a maximum dining capacity of 16/18 and amazing views over the water. The decor is very nautical, and helps create a wonderful welcoming ambience. A fish lover's dream with langoustine, crab and lobster caught fresh by the owner's own boat. We opted for the seafood sharing platter which was a veritable taste sensation. Our taste buds were treated to the delights of lobster (caught at 12.30 and in our plate at 14.00), langoustine, smoked mackerel, peppered mackerel and smoked salmon. Served with hot buttered potatoes and a fresh salad with a lovely golden balsamic dressing. Perfection on a plate. Desserts were equally delicious, a baked vanilla cheesecake with tablet ice cream and an extremely moist and zesty GF lemon and lime cake with vanilla ice cream. Not needed but so very much enjoyed. Service was friendly, helpful and relaxed. Lovely traditional background music added to ambience but was not intrusive. Highly recommended that you call and book. Closes early at 3pm on Saturday and is not open on Sundays.

Excellent fish restaurant in a beautiful setting . Salmon , Herring and prawns served with salad and potato’s and very reasonably priced .

We decided to go and visit this seafood restaurant again after several years. We remembered amazing Langoustine cocktails. There was no langoustine cocktail on the menu and the prices were extortionate. We ordered smoked mackerel which came with so much salad on it, it was ridiculous. When we arrived we were asked if we were eating or just having a drink as they needed the table in 45 mins. Another couple came in after us and we’re asked the same question. Obviously they were expecting a large group of people off the day trip boat as there were only two people in the cafe when we were there. Sorry will not be going back , such a shame as it has become a money making machine.

Friendly service in a fish oriented (of course!) restaurant at a great location. All fresh, including the vegetables. Nice to eat macquerel again, recommended!

While touring along the NC500 I read this was a place to stop and eat lunch. I was not disappointed. Located beside the pier where the ferry boats to Handa island bird sanctuary ply their trade, it has a beautiful terrace where the view down the Loch to the island is magnificent on a sunny day. The road to get here is also a delight. But the food. I went for the fish platter, all fresh, or freshly smoked and just as good as the web image. I had Meg, my faithful 18-year-old Collie with me and she also enjoyed the freedom to wander around the terrace and the bowl of fresh water thoughtfully provided by the owners. I really hope I can find a way to come back and enjoy this fine dining experience again.

We had an excellent seafood platter here for lunch served with salad and new potatoes. Probably the freshest crab I have even eaten. Very friendly staff and very casual. Would highly recommend.

Only made it here once for lunch despite trying to visit more. Beautiful location but parking difficult as Honda island ferry was busy. Great value seafood platter and really friendly owners. Loved it.

Not the easiest place to get to, but worth it. Modest menu, majority being fish or shell fish based. We shared a sea platter of local prawns, (which needed a couple of minutes with a nut cracker to open,) crab, smoked mackerel and salmon, in a salad with buttered potatoes and an apple and walnut dressing. Lovely but somewhat expensive. It seems advisable to book. We arrived 3:00 ish, not booked, and it was tricky finding a table.

Stopped off here after a day walking around Handa island and decided to have an early supper. Its a lovely quirky looking restaurant with a fishing theme. There are several tables inside and a balcony area with additional seating. We went to the counter , and the waiter had interesting customer service skills. To the person in front he said " Do you just want drink or something to eat , because if you only want a drink you can only have the table for 30 minutes as we are a small restaurant" ( even though it was empty). We ordered a meal and drinks which we wanted to have outside to which he said" Are you sure you want to eat outside? If it rains you can't then have a table inside" As it was we decided to sit inside and we had drinks served quickly. It did fill up quickly as the ferry comes back, and then another couple came in and asked if they could have a meal , to which he said we are full ( even though there were tables outside) but you can come back at 4.30 . They said ok but could we have a coffee , to which he said no ( even though the two sofas were empty) unsuprizingly they didn't come back. We got the feeling he didn't want anyone outside as it was more areas to clear up.Our meals arrived quickly and were a lovely seafood platter and a pickled herring salad , the platter was beautifully presented and came with a salad ,hot potatoes and bread. As we said we were going to share both meals the waiter brought extra plates . It was lovely and fresh ( langustines and crabs caught by the owners ) and tasted great . The platter is £35 but was worth it . The waiter seemed to cheer up later, asking if our meals were ok and chatting about the business and the owners when we went to pay. Its a lovely place to eat after a Handa trip but recommend getting off the ferry quick to grab a table or phone up and reserve

The freshest of seafood, caught in the bay where the restaurant is situated. We had the perfect evening weather wise so after dinner sat on the headland and watched the wildlife. The food was amazing beautifully cooked and prepared would thoroughly recommend.

My wife and I ate lunch here after a morning trip over to Handa Island. It is a super little place offering a host of freshly prepared dishes. We ate outside despite the below average temp at the time as the views are great. Well worth a visit.

We were driving along NC500 and decided to stop for lunch. Taking the off the beaten path track we arrived at the ferry dock to Hanna island. What a wonderful view! We had the smoke salmon and prawns which were delicious..Lunch was a wee expensive but with the sunny day and atmosphere it was worth it...The Shorehouse is a must visit!

Ir is located at the Dock for the boats departing to Handa Island. We just went for lunch. A great spot and very nice people running the cafe. Not very big but we didn't have a wait when we arrived at 1:15pm.

We read about this place in the Wild Guide and thought we'd pop in to try some fresh seafood, which I always crave whilst on the coast. Shorehouse didn't disappoint. With the stunning views over to Handa, delicious seafood, great service and amazing décor, we can't wait to come back for more. We shared the seafood platter as it was late afternoon, and it was fantastic.

It doesn’t get much better than this! Hand dressed crab in a lovely place with a fantastic view. This was our 2nd visit & a hot day (record breaking temperatures) so a lazy late afternoon eating seafood & relaxing with friends was perfect. The food was delicious & the service was personal & friendly. Also very dog friendly! I can also recommend it in a cold wet day after a day spent on Handa!

Had a heavenly seafood platter, sat looking out over the bay towards the island of puffins, an idyllic afternoon. A cosy dining area in idyllic setting, friendly staff and food to die for, what more could anyone wish for.

I arrived luckily on the penultimate day of the season they are now closed till 2019. They will be worth the wait the seafood is fresh and local. The soup was gorgeous and apple pie lovely. With friendly service in a cosy great view restaurant

I love my seafood and this was the most perfect day, location and food for my birthday lunch. Lovely sunny day sat on the balcony looking over to Handa island. I had the seafood platter and my husband had the crab salad. Both absolutely delicious. Great way to spend a birthday. When we were walking back to the car the family were offloading the just caught crab from the boat straight into the restaurant. You can't get fresher than that!

We had a family lunch here and can say that the lobster, the langoustine and the crab salad were wonderfully fresh and well presented. However we feel that for the price the food could have been a little more imaginative - for example a simple home made mayonnaise would have enhanced the langoustines and lobster. There was oil and vinegaron the table but they were not very good, the oil was definitely not olive oil. The portion of potatoes was very small, this was surprising as it is not an expensive ingredient. We were hungry after the meal! The Canadian waitress was charming and efficent. Despite the good points I'm not sure we would go back.

My husband and I visited Tarbet last week on our anniversary having last been here 38 years ago on our honeymoon. Although a little busier the spectacular scenery hasn't changed. Staff here were very helpful and we enjoyed the seafood platter with a beautiful view from our table. Will definitely visit again.

Read about this and decided to call in for lunch. Very narrow approach (in a Motorhome!) but well worth it. Day was so very windy (Storm Hector) which made for a lot of spray from the sea. Restaurant was small but lovely. Friendly service, though there were only us and another couple. I can see why you would need to book for dinner. Limited lunch menu, not sure if this would be the same for dinner though. Delicious Lobster & salad for lunch which was beautifully presented. Would love to come back for dinner next time we are this far north.

A wonderful location with outstanding views and good fun décor. Fresh fish is excellent, but salad and presentation rather careless and crumble desert really disappointing. Service friendly and good. This could be a 5 star with a little more care ! Expensive and not good enough to justify it. Resting on good reviews perhaps?

Popped in here having done the walk on Handa Island in unusual heat. What a wonderfully quirky, charming, and friendly restaurant. And the food was excellent. Lovely langoustines and salad for me, sweet pickled herring for my partner, both fresh and tasty, particularly the salad which is always a good marker. Lunch was so good, we decided to share some apple & berry crumble with ice cream as well. Wonderful. Thoroughly recommend.

Als je via na de afslag op de A894 de B weg (passing places!!) naar Tarbet volgt, kom je vanzelf uit bij the Shorehouse. Het ligt namelijk aan het einde van deze weg in een heerlijke baai van waaruit je naar het vogeleiland Handa kunt.

Such a quaint little place which we visited after spending the day on Handa Island. Disappointed at seeing no puffins on our trip, our spirits were lifted by a delightful late lunch. The freshest of ingredients made for two wonderful salads. Great to see such a remote place full of customers, all enjoying their meals.We were very lucky with the weather - it was like a greenhouse with the sun was streaming through the windows. Really enjoyed it.

Fabulous views, lovely rooms, clean and comfy, would go again in a heartbeat along with the Shorehouse owners went above and beyond to make our stay with them truly unforgettable after a tedious long travel to get there, loved it.

Whilst driving from Durness to Assynt, saw this place signposted from the main road. Decided to stop for dinner the following day. What a gorgeous spot, the crowds for Handa had gone for the day so almost had the place to ourselves. Very friendly staff, made a great fuss of our Springer Spaniel too. Dressed Crab salad was gorgeous

This is a magical little corner. We had a late lunch after visiting the island. Of Handa . Ideally placed to have a coffee waiting for the boat or reflecting on the trip.

Greetings fellow travellers, it's another birdwatching foodie trip in Scotland! and What a find... again! The story goes like this (again) misty raining miserable morning in Lochinver, by the sea. typical vivifying Scottish morning: the sort of thing to get you in shape for a morning's fishing. Lunch was supposed to be bought in the local shop, but all I could find was processed mayo white bread industrial nonsense (with all the seafood to be had, that's paramount to sacrilege). So none of that for me!We set off climbing the hills in the worst type of weather, once on the other side, the sun came meekly out and we set off to Handa island, which incidentally was a glorious festival of feathers , sea and sun. After all that walking, on Handa, I rediscovered the Shorehouse which was closed on the way over to the island, and the lovely terrace beckoned me to stop and have a bite. I was rewarded by a lovely smile from the staff and a welcome which shook off the last memories of the awful weather on the mountain. Every corner of the restaurant was a place where you would have wanted to sit a bruised and tired back for some comforting food. I chose the terrace under a bright sun with a view on the island. relaxed a bit and ordered a pièce of cake. Nothing special right? Wrong again! I don't know if it's the sun, or the sea, or the delicious cake, or all of it, but my trip was paid ten fold the instant a crumb of that cake hit my palate. toped it off with chilled cider in a large glass filled with crushed ice and I was in heaven.Of course being thorough I checked the plates of my neighbours hoping to catch my next choice. Alas all the plates where licked clean... What I did see what the beaming smiles of EVERY customer in the restaurant. What I did catch was the size of the plates: generous and beaming with freshness! Looks like the place is a winner, for anything you might desire on the menu :) !!If ever you're in the place pet the house's Dog. The lovely creature will bring you luck!A.

Arrived just after opening time without booking, got a table and was served by super efficient young Canadian girl. Food superb, we had the seafood platter from the menu and a half lobster special, both super fresh and delicious!!!

What a lovely find after the boat trip to Handa Island. The restaurant had a lovely outdoor patio overlooking the sea and the food we had was excellent. I had the half lobster salad which I would recommend. Beautiful location and wonderful fresh food. Highly recommend even if you are not on the boat tour. Will be back
