Lovely waitress Great food, 3 course lunch special and well worth it. My son recommended as he goes regularly with his skydiving buddies. Would definitely return

Very disappointed with the meal tonight, waited 30 minutes for meal and the hunters chicken was very dry, I would have complained but no one came to asked if everything was ok……… I also don’t like been addressed as “you guys”.

No nos ha gustado el sitio. Poco salmón y mucha verdura cocida. Pizza insulsa. Lasaña correcta, pero con patatas fritas (curiosa mezcla) Las costillas estaban buenas. El trato de las camareras hacia nosotros tan frío como esta crítica. No volveríamos ninguno de los cuatro.

Visited as 2 couples , Shown to our table by a young girl , name began with a “K” asked her to clean Our table as it had food on it from prev customers. , which she said she would do but didn’t and went off else where in a near empty restaurant ! In the end we had to ask a staggering 3 times before someone did do it , We was waiting for another couple to join us so ordered our drinks while waiting , the other couple arrived 15 mins later and still no drinks received , the other couple was sat with us for about another 15 mins before their drinks order was taken and we still hadn’t got ours , in the end we waited nearly half a hour before we saw a drink . Food order was taken 45 mins after we arrived , I could understand it it was busy but there was only 3 tables taken and staff stood round doing nothing , There was food all over the floor from a prev customers table , some was cleaned up the other still there when we left 2.5 hours later If you’re going to employ young girls at least make sure they stay awake , the service tonight was terrible . The food was as normal standard and very nice , Not sure we will return again for some time not a good vibe at all

Used to go regularly for mid-week carvery which was excellent. When they stopped doing that and replaced it with 'fancier' menu choices, it wasn't for us so we stopped going. Recently they have been advertising meals more to our taste e.g 'pub grub' such as steak pie, fish, lasagne etc. Today we were firstly shocked at how few customers there were at 1pm (it used to be very busy). The pie wasn't as advertised, nor what was on the first menu we were given. We ordered 2 x ham, eggs and chips, 1 x egg and chips. We received 3 with ham so one of us had to wait whilst it was taken away and the correct meal cooked and served. The meals were lacklustre, basic and quite measly. The puddings however were excellent. Comparing them to similar meals in the area, they came out very poorly. We won't be returning. And staff member (manager?) who was playing with her long hair all the time we were there. When this was mentioned to her she simply said, yes I always do it, I don't usually serve food - but she was serving food. Food hygiene?

Visited this venue a few years back and pleasantly surprised how airy and upmarket it had become. We were a party of 9 professional pensioners eating up on a regular 6 weekly meeting for lunch at different places. Have to admit the food was excellent but the cock up happened as during the meal confusion arose over the menus. We thought we were on the lunchtime special,2/3couurse. However it turned out wrong. The actual venue and the writing on it is too small. and difficult to read. Also water and glasses had to be asked for. Staff actually made some amendment and offered a free sweet. Just did not feel like a welcoming atmosphere despite the high food quality. So will be giving it a miss from now on can certainly get bettter deals elsewhere

I had recommended The Shires to friends as there is a varied menu and I am allowed to choose from the children menu with having stomach surgery. So disappointed to be told I am not allowed to order from the children menu as I am over12. I had wanted to be chicken wrap and there so no other option of wraps on the main menu. I ended ordering the lite lasagne and chips from the lunch time menu. Hardly any meat and swimming in cheese oil. I had 4 mouthfuls- a waste of food and my money. I will not go back again.

Lovely carvery, we especially enjoyed the roast potatoes. Thank you to Liam on the carvery deck for being really welcoming and lovely. A relative that was with me wanted a carvery however she has celiac disease and required this to be gluten free, the waitress checked what they had and what she could definitely have however there was no option for a gluten free gravy so she went for the fish pie instead. A gluten free gravy would be great alongside your normal gravy for those with medical requirements. After dinner we also had puddings which were lovely.

We booked a table at the shires and found we had a friendly greeting on arrival. Josh was taking our order and you couldn't meet such a polite lad. Photo's were taken by Josh of our family group. Having ordered our food we found we didn't have to wait long before we were eating. The Sunday carvery was very filling, and cooked well. There was no need for pudding as we were all full. I would like to say thank you to Josh and all of the other staff for this great visit. Keep up the good work.

Me my partner and family had an evening meal at The Shires recently. We all had mains and puddings. All the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff where very friendly and helpful.

It would be easy to drive straight past the building, as from the outside it looks like a light industrial unit but inside - a whole different ball game! The decor actually put me quite a bit in mind of The Tea House In The Woods at Woodhall Spa, very comfortable and welcoming. The lighting, in particular, was not too glaringly bright, although certainly light enough to see everything clearly and everywhere looked spotlessly clean. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming, polite and professional and there is an very wide range of food choice, even for a vegetarian. Food arrived fairly quickly and was hot and tasty. (The banana split was HUGE!) All very reasonably priced, too. Will definitely be returning.

Perfect just as it should be. The place is so relaxed and clean. The staff can't do enough for you. We had a young lad taking our orders today. He said he was new but honestly you'd think he'd been there forever. We opted for the carvery which as expected was excellent. It was really busy but the place seemed to run like clockwork. We'll definitely be back, we need more places like this.

We have visited the Shires at least 4 or 5 times a year over the last 9 years or so as a big family group between 15 and 26 of us, the food has always been good, the staff lovely and if we have had any complaints these have always been addressed, however last night will be our last visit. We visited in January only to find that our table had been used for an earlier sitting and was not ready, we had to wait 30 minutes before we were seated and so our meal was late. We visited last night to be seated straight away, our table was booked for 7 and as we were a family of 15 with 2 toddlers we had pre ordered as usual but despite this we didn’t get our meal until just after 8pm and 3 of the orders were wrong and the toddlers meal came out last. We did complain but the staff weren’t interested. We weren’t offered any explanation other than the kitchen was busy, but that is not our fault and if they can’t cope with the amount of orders then they shouldn’t take the bookings. We also observed that they took a walk in whose food order was taken and they received their food before us. So we left last night very dissatisfied and over night 1 of the party has had an upset stomach.

Xmas Lunch. Each course went downhill. Starters ok, mains cold roast and mash potatoes and cheesecake desserts inedible. They said no other dessert available due to strict allocation of meals. They knocked off two beers from the bill over £280. Then on leaving offered a cheeseboard to take home. When we got home dry crackers and two bits of cheese. Which was mouldy the following day. We have contacted them and still wait a response from management.

Wow…. went for Sunday carvery …booked a table for 7 … it was very busy but yet so relaxing the food was excellent the staff very polite and nothing was to much trouble. Top value food cracking beer…. service with a smile!!!!!

11 of us went here to celebrate my mums 90th birthday. I cannot rate this restaurant enough. The food was amazing. We all had different main meals apart from 2 of us. It was delivered all at the same time. No waiting. The service was very good and the staff were friendly. We will certainly be returning and highly recommend it

Wow we have found a gem , from the minute we walked in the door until we finished our food the service was brilliant as was the food , even my wife ate stuff she normally wouldn’t eat just to try it. We will be back again and again alot better than anywhere else in the area The carvery was brilliant

The carvery is superb! So much flavour and the quantities are just right. Dessert was delicious- lemon sponge and custard and even my lime and soda was perfect - so many places don’t put enough lime in. The staff are very attentive. Will definitely be coming back - an amazing place, good food and pleasant staff.

Called in when in the area , just took a chance there might be a free table. We were so pleased that we could be accommodated, a very friendly member of staff pointed us in the direction of a table and told us someone would be with us soon. We didnt have to wait long before a member of staff came to take out order. My husband ordered the steak and ale pie and I had the lasagne, both meals were delicious, my husband commented that the carrots were cooked to perfection. we can honestly say it was a very nice meal and will definitely be returning when in the area

Took the wife for a meal, very polite service, great atmosphere, my big mistake was thinking I could eat a starter and a main. The portions were enormous tasty and cooked as ordered. Had to leave some which is rare for me, wife was very impressed with the half ribs and chicken but still could not finish it. I do heartily recommend the place but if it becomes too popular it will be harder to get a table.

We went at lunch time, we had t booked and all through they were busy they found us a table. Everywhere was so clean and felt totally safe. Myself and my friend both ordered the steak salad. It was amazing, it also came with new potatoes and a crusty bread roll. It was delicious, I couldn’t finish it all as the potion size is big. Well worth the money. Service was brilliant too, nothing was too much trouble. We will be back.

First time ordering a Sunday Lunch for delivery, it was just amazing. The amount of meat was unreal and 7 different vegetables as well as roast potatoes, mash and yorkshire puds. Piping hot. Beef succulent as was my husbands turkey. Son had the amazing sticky toffee pudding with custard. Could not fault it. Shall be ordering again. Superb

Great little find, lovely pub with a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It was lovely and sunny when we visited but it was great to see that there were large patio heaters available if needed. Only stopped for a drink this time but will definitely pop back for food very soon as what we saw looked and smelt amazing!

After hearing such good reviews about this place we decided to give it a try, so pleased we did, the choice of menu was great, something to suit everyone's taste including vegetarian and vegan. The staff were great with my children as well, nothing was too much trouble, the outside seating area is perfect as well with lovely outside heaters, we will definitely be back

Appreciate that times are hard! Service was not great. Ordered drinks was not asked what size we required e.g small or large. 4 pints arrived , 2 of the drinks were for kids! To be honest i don't like drinking from a pint glass! 2 of the meals were chicken dishes, asked what it came with & the waitress did not have a clue! I could not be bothered for confrontation hence the reason. Its Not as good as it used to be, so sorry guys I'm not sure we'll be back!

I was going to write a review about how bad our serice was on Friday night.I don't see the point as no one from the pub takes notice of bad reviews. Birthday meal spoilt and expensive mediocre food. Will not return.

We eat here regularly and have noticed the service slowly falling on the last few visits.On our latest visit we had booked a table and before we had even sat down were told we would have at least a 20 minute wait for a Carvery .The drinks arrived promptly at the table.The wait for the Carvery was 30 minutes.Even then we had a 5 minute wait before getting served with no other customers there and there was staff there who did not acknowledge our presence and no communication.The presentation of the food on the Carvery is not as good as it used to be and the two people serving lacked customer service. A smile costs nothing !The food is still ok.The waiting staff are friendly but no one seems to know what’s happening and are all rushing about all over the place.Then when we asked for the bill it was another 10 minute wait.We hope the Shires goes back to how it was but we will be leaving it a while after this latest visit.

We booked a table for Sunday dinner .As useral the food was very good. And thought the service was good, even with all the covert rules. Table service and the chef serving up the carvery. As always the staff were very friendly and helpful. I think at the moment. Its not easy for pubs and restaurants. Shires are doing their best to keep things as safe as they can. Well done, you are doing a good job.

Phoned the shires Sunday afternoon to see if we could get in for Sunday lunch and was told we could have a table in half hour. On arrival friendly attentive staff, was served immediately and drinks came promptly. We was able to go up to the carvery straight away, I had the pork and my boyfriend had the beef, both were delicious. Will definitely be back.

Visited whilst staying in the area at grange park lodges, booked in advance as it was our daughters birthday. Warm welcome by 3 lovely waitresses, food was beautiful, we did not have any complaints with the 5 meals we had which were all different, portion size or quality. We can highly recommend.

Warm welcome, food was ok on one steak meal the other was a lot of grizzle, when this was pointed out the waitress was not interested, nor was the lady at the on paying, not a good customer service, no real interest in the food

We ate here recently and would definitely recommend it! Proper home cooked pub food, reasonably priced, large portions and good service.Really organised too with safety measures so felt really reassured they were taking it seriously.The starters are really nice but big, so I think next time we will share one so we can manage all our main!They were able to box up leftovers too which was good as it meant we didn’t waste anything!Will be visiting again soon for sure!

I had heard such great things about this place so last Sunday I went with my father who is disabled the one good thing I can say they was very helpful and caring. but I'm afraid the food was awful I had the Turkey and my father had the beef both meals where cold the roast potatoes where like lead bullets and tasted awful as did the Yorkshire pudding it was like cold leather the vegetables may of taeted better when they was warm I felt really let down as a Sunday dinner isnt a difficult thing to get right .As I was there with my dad for a relaxing day out I didn't feel like complaining so I payed and we left but wont go back again.

We recently visited The Shires for the first time for a family meal out, we booked in advance as we know restaurants are more limited with space now post lockdown. We were greeted with friendly faces and polite front of house staff, we were pleased to see the tables all spaced at least 1 meter apart and the tables were all clean and clear of the usual (salt and pepper, cutlery, menus) we also noticed staff thoroughly clean the tables in between customers. We all enjoyed our meals, the portion sizes were generous and the food was delicious and it was all made even better by the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme which made it even better value! We will definitely be returning soon

Visited Shires recently on the eat out to help out scheme. I have to say the premises was extremely busy so we expected a wait. Our order for drinks was taken at the table promptly however it was a further 30 minutes before they arrived after having to remind the waitress. From entering the premises to our meals arriving we had to wait 90 yes 90 minutes. The food arrived in smaller portions than normal and the warm side of hot. We also noticed that the cost of the meals individually have risen. This isn't a criticism of the staff as they appeared to be working like trojans it was the fact the premises was that busy they couldn't cope. Come on Shires buck your ideas up.

We had a lovely meal, at Shires today for our wedding anniversary. The service was excellent. Friendly staff, also the food was really good well cooked. They are following all the rules for coronavirus. We really enjoyed our visit. Thank you. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

The Shires had great food and very generous portions. The staff were very good and attentive and had very good customer facing manners.The only thing that stopped it being 5 stars was the ambience, It's a little dated and needs a refurbishment, but this wouldn't stop us coming again.

Went here with another couple and have to say that the food was great, and my Hunters Chicken was superb. The staff were excellent with a great sense of humour.Service was exceptionally fast and the the price very good. The place it self looked a little tired and needs modernisation but otherwise would easily recommend it to anyone.

After being urged to try The Shires by many friends and having read such positive reviews on trip advisor, we finally took the opportunity yesterday. We adults opted for the carvery - which looked great (presentation is obviously very important to the staff) and our youngest diner opted for fish fingers and chips from the children's menu. Everything was very tasty and cooked just as we like it. The bill was very reasonable and the service was excellent. We will soon be returning - perhaps for something a little more adventurous next time.

If you want good, freshly prepared food of a 'hone-cooked' nature, this could be the place for you. There is a good selection of traditional dishes, all of which come in large portions. you will not be hungry after eating here!

First time we have been to Shires, for a while. But nothing has changed. It is still as good as ever. Excellent service, lovely carvery. And all in great surroundings, and reasable prices. Will definitely be back. And would recommend for anyone, that wants a lovely meal. Thankyou.

Visited here with my partners walk-in. There was no one to greet us when we arrived so we just seated ourselves. Asked the waitress what she recommended. She gave very good customer service - helpful, knowledgable etc. Partner had a cheeseburger, I've had better at McDonald's. The meat quality was really poor. No sauce or anything on the bun. Served with chips which were standard. Huge 'side' salad - which looked lovely but was a bit much. I had steak. Cooked really well but wasn't seasoned at all. Peppercorn sauce tasted like it was bought in - just tasted like cream, not enough peppercorns in it really. I expected more from the reviews but was left disappointed for the money.

We often visit for a sunday lunch, and we called this last Sunday with friends.We all had the sunday carvery.The carvery was the best I have, it was fantastic, everything was cooked nice and everything was hot.Definitely be returning and would highly recommend to anybody to try.Note; you can orderfromthe normal menu if you so wish.

Had a mid-week lunch with a party of three. All had different meals from the main menu, and none were disappointed. Draught beer was very good. The mid-week carvery was popular with other diners in the restaurant, which we will probably try at our next visit.

We went to the shire on a Sunday evening and just didnt how good the staff and food would be.

Booked a party of eight for a family get together. Pre-ordered starters and mains after being sent the menu. Every meal was spot on, steaks perfectly cooked. Huge portions but we had allowed for that. Puddings were lovely. Staff were lovely and quick to clear between courses as well as having a laugh with us. The bill including drinks was more than reasonable. Definately returning.

First time visit to The Shires. Many people recommended this to us, and one couple (only one couple) said definitely don’t go there. I was intrigued, so had to give it a try. We went for the Sunday Carvery. We ate at 1pm (I do think it is important to eat at a reasonable time at a carvery as you don’t want to be eating food which has been standing a long while). So what did we think? It’s the best carvery we have had for a long time. I would certainly recommend it! The meat was very tasty. The veg were not over cooked (a problem we do find with carveries). Even though we had a carvery we could also have chosen a meal from their menu.

Food was amazing , cooked well. Wasnt waiting long. I don't mind paying that bit more for a good meal , will be returning. Love this place.

We rang up and booked a table, upon arrival we were greeted inside and shown to our table. Drinks were ordered and brought to the table quickly.

So average fortnightly visit but alas just had final trip.

The best place to eat in the area by far. We dont go anywhere else. Never had a bad meal. Always fantastic food, good sized portions, good value for money and the staff are always so friendly and efficient. Have good real ales. Hunters Chicke, also mix and match, Rump Steak & King Prawns highly recommended, so is everything else!

Never been here before, bit difficult to find but worth the effort. Varied menu plus a carvery gave a good choice to our party of four. Service was good and pleasant. Our food was hot and portion size was about right. Price was about the same as similar

Our first visit to this restaurant! It didn't disappoint. Good selection of pub type meals at reasonable prices.All our meals were served piping hot, of generous portions, freshly cooked and nicely presented. Well done.

first time at the Shires. We found the plates used for Sunday lunch are a bit on the small side with not a lot of room to spread your veg & potatoes so you have to go upwards! Also the serving of meat was a bit on the stingy side compared to places we usually go to. We like to have broccoli and cabbage but these were not available Service was ok. Would not revisit for Sunday lunch but might try it for an eveing meal

Carvery lunch was very tasty. Service was friendly & very fast. The restaurant was very full but plenty of room to move between tables. I was extremely disappointed however that decaf coffee was not available. I was offered decaf tea, but I don't drink tea.

Visited for Sunday Carvery with my Mum ,husband and 2 family members who had come a long distance. We all ordered Carvery and were advised that there would be a short wait as there was a long queue waiting to be served. After some 20 minutes we were told we could go to pick our carvery. There was still a long queue and a further 10 minutes of waiting before I was served, along with our family members. My husband then went to queue up as he had sat with my Mum who is in a wheelchair while we went to get her meal. He returned some 10 minutes later as the man serving had left his post to fetch more veg. A member of staff asked those queuing to return to there seats . Several people left without there meal including my husband, at which point he was fed up with waiting and decided not to bother. I have no complaints about the staff as they were very apologetic and the quality of the food we had was very good. There however needs to be a better system in place for serving the carvery. Perhaps 2 people serving the meats and another to fetch fresh vegetables. On another note a better choice of vegetables would be good. We chose to have 2 desserts in our party and were only charged for 1 but that really isn't sufficient compensation. We will not be visiting on a Sunday in the near future unless a faster system is put in place.

Having read the reviews I looked forwards to my Sunday lunch, however I was to be somewhat dissapointed, having decied to have the carvery , the meat was tender and full of flavour, stuffing, roast potatoes yorkies good, the mashed potatoes were disaster so runny I thought someone had added to much milk, it's been suggested to me naybe it was smash!! for my dessert I choose bananna split another dissapointment,not like I remember my last one (years ago) with nuts chocolate sauce and a selection of icecreams. this one had a few sprinkles and squirty cream, The staff all very pleasant,and made you feel welcome, however before we had finished eating there was a mass clerance of the room, chairs being stacked and tables shiffed,

We regularly visit the Shires and normally we would book on a Sunday as it always gets very busy. However this Sunday we were so busy we didn't get round to booking and called on the off chance.

Having visited The Shires over many years since the landlord took it over and changed it beyond all recognition I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal, Yes at busy times you may have to wait a little bit, but this is a side effect of the food being cooked fresh to order and arriving hot. Rather the wait than having plastic food arriving cold. I particularly like the fact that the chefs appear to be allowed to cook different variations on the specials board. My last visit I had chicken snitzel with a creamy mushroom sauce, lovely. The staff are all friendly and helpful even though at times they are rushed off their feet. We have had many good meals with invited friends who all sing it's praises.So well done to all the staff for the sheer consistency of the food.

Called and booked a spot for the sunday carvery after friends recommendation. We were not disappointed. All 4 had the carvery and it was lovely. Selection of meats, yorkie, stuffing, roasties, mash cauliflower cheese, gravy and a veg selection. We were well look after by the staff and I can see us coming back really soon.

Come here 3-4 times a month for the steak pie my personnel favourite would give it five stars but don’t like morretti served in a carslberg glass or whatever is to hand👀 Apart from that everything in this busy place is spot on 👍

Lovely family friendly pub. Nice friendly staff. Food is of good quality and a good sized portions. There is plenty of choice on the menu's and the puddings look fantastic as you walk in. A regular visit for us

Visited yesterday with hubby and 2 grandsons. Ordered food from main menu and it was hot, plentiful and delicious. Only negative point that I noticed was that a little short on staff. Quite busy for a Tuesday and lots of large groups so extra staff was needed. Serving staff tried their best but never came to check on drinks or asked if we enjoyed our meal as really busy. Overall a good first visit.

Wonderful food, good portions, will definitely go back for another Sunday dinner! Great service and lovely staff.

Visited on a Wednesday after taking my daughter and her friend swimming in brigg. Both the children had a carvery. It was sublime. Both kids are the full plate. They both had turkey which was cooked perfectly. It was nice and moist and the servings were extremely generous. I had a pint of Guinness which was excellent. I usually drink Guinness in my local pub (priory Scunthorpe) and the bar maids there are hit and miss. This pint was pulled expertly. Well worth a visit and as always never fails to impress me. Oh and deffo leave room for a desert as they are out of this world !!!!

We came here today for the first time with our 2 children the pub was very clean and welcoming and very child friendly the carvery was fantastic and so was the soup of the day all staff seemed busy but was very attentive afterwards we spent all day at the bouncy fair opposite the pub which the kids loved will deffo be back again

First time here tonight and I wasn't disappointed by the actual food itself. The mixed grill was awesome and my partners fish pie excellent.

We were a family of 7 coming up from the west midlands to meet up with my nieces future in laws, so 11 of us decended on the shires for a night out, as we don't know any eateries in and around Scunthorpe we were relying on them, and they didn't let us down, my breaded squid with sweet chilli sauce was lovely, so was my wife's tomato soup, with a very nice small single little loaf style roll to accompany it, again my fresh Grimsby cod was fantastic, with hand cut chips and mushy peas, everyone said how nice the meals were, also a great choice of beers at a reasonable price, and the staff were fantastic, good humoured and very attentive, thank you.

Went with my partner burger and gammon ordered both arrived in 15 minutes lovely thick burger homemade chips and onion rings all hot great food good portions
