I'm only going to review the food and access to the bar. My wife and I choose to go here having heard the food was good. Phoned ahead and booked table for lunch expressly said 1 in wheelchair. Directed to rear car park (only one and small) for access to building down a ramp. Great arrived and could not get in because even though a ramp to get you to rear door there is a large step at door ok for manual wheelchairs but no good for electric. We could not access and went to leave. Told access from front was possible down alley to right of from facade but not back. So travelled to front down alley to side door. This had a raised threshold to cross but made it. Now onto carvey there was plenty of choice and I had some of each. Unlike most carveries you can go back again and refill your plates. Food was fine the biggest issue was it was not very warm at all which spoilt the occasion for us. Overall access poor food not hot. Service was great nothing too much trouble. If carvery was hotter it would have great. But go and have a try just don't visit with an electric wheelchair.

Had an excellent carvery here. You can go back for more - including the meats. They stopped serving at 3 and we got there about 10 to. Despite this, they never attempted to rush us and we were able to enjoy the full range of food in our own time. We ate our fill and thoroughly enjoyed it all. The only slight downside was that the veg wasn't quite as hot as I'd like but I think that's probably due to the time we arrived. There were three real ales available - 2 on tap and 1 hand pull - and they were all delicious. On top of all the above, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back.

We were recommended to visit The Sheffield Arms by some other family members who had been not so long ago and had a pleasant experience. Something which we were hoping for ourselves. Upon arriving with my wife, 4 year old son and well behaved dog. I asked a guy on the way in if dogs were welcome, I was received with a blunt YES. I thought nothing of it sat, where we were directed to, ordered 3 drinks and 3 packets of crisps. Lovely pub very clean and tidy, the food looked very nice also. We ordered another 3 drinks making for a delightful Friday evening. This unfortunately was totally undone by the blunt chap we met upon arrival. My son has severe food allergies, we don’t make a meal of it but take a small snack box with us incase appropriate ones aren’t available. The previously mentioned blunt chap who actually turned out to be the manager, came up to the table and in the same demeanour as before said ‘you cannot sit down and just eat your own food, we are a restaurant’. A fair and valid point if were true. We were hardly having a family Picnic, my son had purchased 2 drinks at this point so what harm was a small snack box only there due to sever food allergies. My wife tried to explain he has food allergies and is only a few snacks. We were met again with his charismatic customer skills. ‘We serve food for people with allergies’. I cannot for the life of me understand why you would pick on a young family causing no harm, and also happily sat there paying and enjoying themselves. I challenged his manner and tried to explain we wasn’t taking the p..s, but again was met with his charm. The manager of this pub needs a reality check into customer service. Such a shame as the place and other staff was nice, all unfortunately let down by 1 man.

Found this pub whilst looking for somewhere to eat near the speedway that wasn't a chain of fast food outlets. Pub car park small, but welcome and range of drinks and food was good. Scampi & chips my 'never fail' favourite was tasty and plentiful. I had to ask for a lemon wedge though and tartar sauce and unfortunately the tartar was given to me in 3 small sachets - a slight let down. Also after eating a few pieces of scampi I came across wilted lettuce that someone must have thought good as a bed for the scampi, really should have been on the side as a garnish!? I did mention this to an attentive female staff member, who enquired if our meals were ok and she said she would pass it onto the chef. Skin on fries were a lovely change instead of usual chips. Our other meal choice was Hunters chicken, the chicken was slightly dry, but my husband was hungry and just ate it all. He's not one for complaining, but I feel it's constructive feedback if you are asked. A friendly local pub with a warming charm and we would return to.

Looking for lunchtime snack, unfortunately no ploughman's as didn't have ingredients, and only while bread, no wraps, ciabatta or baguettes. Chef also struggled to find fries rather than chips. A first visit to this local pub just for food not accommodation, first impressions are good, it's a big old building that is kept in good order , parking is around the back which is well lit and tidy. Inside the pub its cosy & welcoming a couple of electric fires to give an impression of a real coal fire which would be nice, as its such a traditional interior, a Scottish tartan plaid wall paper , pictures of deer on table place mats gives a country feel to the place , so the menu is nice & small with a good choice of homemade pies , burgers , chicken ,and some veggie options , they also have a nice carvery with 4 different meats good selection of vegetables which all looked very fresh. I went specifically for the mince beef suet pie but they don't make them any longer for the daily menu which has not been removed , but they still have it only on the Sunday carvery as an option. The selection of drinks are good lots on draught to choose from or non alcoholic choices too , food is traditional in nature but good , overall a 4 of of 5

I don’t usually do this but I think it’s important to share. We have been staying in the village of Burton with our small dog and some friends. We popped into the Sheffield Arms Friday and we had a fantastic day. The lady behind the bar was friendly, attentive and despite been rushed off her feet remained polite and courteous even when she had some issues with the pumps. Everybody respected her and her dealing with it in a calm manner. We returned later in the evening to see the band perform. She had moved from the bar and the young lad working again was great. Having noticed us come in she came over apologised for any delay she might have caused us earlier in the day and thanked us for returning. It didn’t appear that she was working during in the evening but was there keeping on top of everything along side the bar man. The locals were saying how great of a barmaid she is and that the landlady was lucky to have her. Having been told about a burger van attending the Saturday we returned. What a difference. The barmaid or so we thought on the Saturday sat behind the bar vaping, swearing loudly, barely able to string sentence with out some form obscenity! Having gone outside for a cigarette my husband returned to say that there is the landlady. He’d been speaking to someone who had said that she always behaved like this and that in turn locals had began avoiding the pub unless they knew for sure one of the two staff members were working. It is a real shame that in this case the person at the top is failing what is a fantastic pub with great staff. (Based on the two we had the pleasure of Friday) we’ve been told that her behaviour is something of a running joke within the village with her regularly getting drunk and performing like a wild animal abusing customers verbally. Perhaps she should consider a different career. Hospitality is not suited to everyone. On a positive note, the lady working friday. You are brilliant at your job, a lovely person and how you managed alone under the circumstances without losing any of your grace is admirable. She never stopped cleaning, serving and hosting. You should apply for management positions. You certainly meet the criteria.

A really strange place this and to be honest I am surprised it is still in business. The place was very unwelcoming and the bar tender would rather carry drinks to the tables of locals then serve you when your stood at the bar. No food was on offer, not even breakfast. A strange selection of beers with only half decent beer being bottles of black sheep! I only found out about the food situation after booking - after all I did search for bed AND BREAKFAST! The village where it’s located is quite nice and scenic, therefore the pub doesn’t appear to fit the bill. Now although the address on here states Scunthorpe as the address it’s actually quite a few miles outside, and when I asked where the nearest food was they said “in Scunthorpe” It was cheap £30 and that really is the only thing going for it. Showers and toilets are communal in the corridor. Suppose you get what you pay for but I wasn’t particularly looking for cheap. It’s a real shame because you can see the potential in the place - just needs some different thinking.

It was a one use mask and it was absolutely filthy. Gross! Secondly, my friend spilt some drink on the table, we asked for a cloth and she used one that was black, it looked like it had been used to wash out ashtrays. Fortunately I had some antibac wipes in my bag and we used them to clean everything, place mats, cutlery, glasses. However, food was freshly cooked and piping hot but we were all very wary of eating and ending up ill. Pub really needs to up the hygiene as it ruined what could be a lovely place to go.

I went for a family meal latest night (9th february) and I have never had such horrendous service or been so humiliated in my life! Here's a run down of my night: I arrive and stand at the bar waiting to be served. The lady finishes serving a customer and ignores me. A gentleman behind the bar serves someone then proceeds to talk to his friends ignoring me. The lady who ignored me then seated people who arrive after I did. I then sit down to watch and wait 15 minutes before I have to ask for menus for me and my family. We order our food and are told there is a wait (unsure why his was advised as we was given our food before the table next to us who ordered 1st. The person who brought the food ran from the table faster than Usain Bolt not asking if we wanted/needed anything. We are ignored for a further 10 minutes. I get the attention of the original lady who ignored me at the start of the night. It turns out our side was never written down and was sarcastically told salt is on the table when I had meant to say vinegar was needed. No spoons given for the mayo and tomato sauce and the smallest ramekin of sauce was given for a family of 3. It took a further 10 minutes for this and the sides to be brought out. My partners jumbo fish was not jumbo and missing fish inside (ie it wass half a fish). The chef/tenant running through pub came out of the kitchen and all I can say is she was clearly looking for an argument! She had ripped the fish apart and like I say proceeded to argue with us! Tables was staring at us! All other tables was attended to as you would expect and we was ignored! The lady who ignored us all night told the table next to us they could only have 1 menu to look at desers as all others was out! Well all I'll say is if the 3 on our table had of been taken after our order had been taken you would of had the other 3 you needed. I work in customer service and the service we received was nothing short of shocking. It's a shame as I love in the village and I will never return not even for a drink!

My wife and I went for a quiet meal together before the Christmas madness starts. The hosts were very welcoming and seated us promptly. The atmosphere was both warm and welcoming. Very Christmassy. The food came hot and very well presented. Menu is limited but does have a good selection. The taste was as it should and can’t complain on the size of portion either. This is above normal standard for pub grub. Recommend a visit. Staff are tentative and informative and on most occasions satisfy most requests with a smile and prompt. Great little place and quite surprised on many levels. Give it a go

Visited this pub 3 days out of the 4 we were staying in the area. We ate here 3 times and each time we both had an excellent meal. Especially the rib eye cooked to perfection.

First time here for some years. I had a fillet steak which was excellent but a tad expensive for pub grub. I'm being a bit picky because my meal was excellent. Others in our party were not so complimentary. My wife's chicken burger wasn't a burger it was a lump of chicken in a bun. The veggie option was OK. Overall it was a decent pub lunch but some work is needed to get five stars. Would visit again though.

My husband was born and bred in this lovely village. He has seen many people behind the bar in the Sheffield Arms. We have been in the pub twice this week and have been let down both times. I was called a fella, I clearly look like a woman . Waited about 5 minutes for someone to serve us after being called a fella. We asked for some drinks tonight, wanted fruity cider but they didn't have any so we got cider with blackcurrant, paid for blackcurrant but if we got a dash that is an exaggeration. We got served drinks then two minutes later got told to drink up and leave, as if anyone can drink that quick. The little guy behind the bar just stood with his arms crossed looking at us. The tall guy just told us he did us a favour serving us then quickly walked away. When they put the drinks on the bar, they put them down with such force some of the drink spilled out. Why they would put people that don't come from a nice village into a village pub is ridiculous,

Good location in a pleasant village. Parking and good outdoor area for warm evenings.Relatively new team in charge, took over in January.Rather dated interior, perhaps defined as quaint. Reasonable range of beers and menu for lunchtime.Competent service at what was a very busy time. Clearly room for improvement on food delivery time, one table, not ours, waited over 45 minutes.Food average on quality and quantity. Would look forward to visiting again to assess progress.

Under new management so decided to give it a try. Food was average but overpriced. But our worst experience was the appalling customer service. The landlord was rude and unprofessional. The whole experience was awful, not one I would want to repeat and will not be returning.Sorry, we will not be booking another planned event for family and friends, which is a shame as it's our local village pub

Six weeks with a new landlord, food was excellent with large portions and some of the best chips I have had in ages. Several specials in addition to a decent menu. Also caters for the older person with smaller portions of anything on the main menu. I can recommend this place.

My husband and I had booked a table for two last Saturday at quite short notice but were fitted in.We knew that the place had changed hands once more and it had been recommended to us by some friends. TheMenu offered a number of choices for me and I chose the chicken in thyme and my husband the fish and chips. The food arrived on plates (great none of this slate tile and pretend deep fat fryer basket stuff). Both meals were excellent, tasty and hot. As usual I had to have a sweet - chose the New York Cheesecake which was fantastic. A lovely meal and we will come back. Well done to the three ladies and the charming young waiter who had to cope with a slight problem with a party of four later on, pleased to see you kept your cool!

Asked for a pint of Doombar not available, not a good start. Asked for menu, told that there was only Sunday roast available, pork or beef or both, it is going down hill quickly. Starter of pate was fine, good portion and tasty. Meals came out, pork plate looked anaemic no colour what so ever and meat covered in gravy, vegetables served seperately which were over cooked, meat was tough, yorkshire pudding was hard and yet more gravy was served seperately, we were hungry so we ate it. I will not be rushing back here in the near future.

As a local, I've seen the Sheff Arms change hands very often. The latest owners offered fantastic customer service and were very eager to impress. I couldn't fault the Sunday roast - £6.95 for beef, yorkshire pudding, roasties and all the trimmings. Got the pâté starter as well, it was ace. The beer is still relatively pricey but that's the fault of the greedy parent company, not the staff. I'll certainly be going back!

We were researching for somewhere to hold a small 60th Birthday dinner for about 10 people. It was quiet in the pub only 4 of us and another table of 4 ordering dinner. It took nearly an hour for our food to come out and we only ordered main courses. The lamb shanks were very tasty, tender and fell of the bone the gravy was a bit sparse, the creamy chicken pie was a bit lack of creamy so quite dry even with gravy. Chicken stroganoff was not a typical stroganoff more of a goulash and quite greasy."Chicken Stroganoff is a Russian inspired dish, made with sauté chicken, onions, Dijon mustard, crushed tomatoes and Double Cream!"Whilst we understand the pub is in transition of ownership we decided not to book our event here for our visiting guests. Nice pub with great interior but food service is key in this trade nowadays.

Having walked my dog on Burton hills we decided to go for lunch at the Sheffield arms. So pleased we did as we were greeted with lovely friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. The food was all homemade and we sat outside in the lovely garden enjoying the sun. They also said dogs are allowed inside in the winter which is nice to know. Would defiantly recommend this pub.

OK we went to this long standing pub in December and found the new young landlord to have an attitude of cleverness. He argued with me which in my book is fatal hence my review. I knew what I ordered an he was very pushy to say otherwise. The food however was acceptable until I realized their health award was zero or there abouts! Bad combination having poor hygiene AND an attitude. We had pork and crackling as a Christmas pre ordered special. Very nice no problems. Since December or January this year new management and to be honest I've been reluctant to return so I can't comment on the current situation. Give it a go and then review on here?

Staying at local caravan site who assured us it was dog friendly. Popped in late afternoon to enquire if it was ok to eat that evening with our dog and were told by a gentlemen that that would be fine. Arrived and was told could only sit in the corner of the pub which was occupied the other two tables were low small round ones totally unacceptable for eating we understood we could not eat in the restaurant but thought the bar was ok why was this not told to us when we enquire earlier in the day !!!! They had no traditional ales on no Kroneburg larger and when asked for some bottled water was told they dont sell it !!!!!! The restaurant was empty and pub very quiet I WONDER WHY !! We left and drove to a lovely friendly restaurant where we had a nice meal. We definitely won't be recommending this pub to the other caravaners.

Visited for breakfast and had the 'Large Breakfast', which was okay. The venue is large, popular, but quite dark. The service was decent enough, but some of the tables and menus could do with a wipe down due to being rather sticky. The beans also lacked any taste.
