Busy pub with good, home style food.

So, no idea where the name comes from. Let me know if you know :) Lovely food at a very reasonable price. Singer was on when we visited, did not stop for 2 hours :) Entertaining without being overpowering. If we're in the area again will revisit.

Staff are strangly rude for no reason, we were there on 20th May

1st time, it was a really nice place for a family to enjoy a meal together. The food was hot, and everyone enjoyed it. The puddings went down a treat

Lovely pub with good wheel chair access and very friendly staff , we had toasted sandwiches and they were huge ! so filling and well prepared. Great selection of beers as well, so that's an important box ticked 😉, very clean inside, and comfortable well worth a visit .

Just been to the shippons irby had a lovely roast with my husband food lovely and cheap the staff are absolutely lovely nothing to much trouble go above and beyond make you feel very welcome lovely place to eat we will be back thank you

Another fab visit for us, but 1st time for our relatives visiting from Canada. They were so impressed with food and service. We will be visiting again before they return home.

Lovely little pub with a 3 course menu for not much money. Worth the occasional visit for a mid week treat when you can't be bothered to cook. Simple menu and simple food but good for the price.

We ate here for mothers day, and I can truly say it was the best food, the best service, the best atmosphere. All the staff are 100% a credit to your company. All the food was cooked to perfection 👌

Just happened to call into here while waiting to collect my car from the garage. My sister and I had a little lunch of jacket potato and corned beef hash. Absolutely loved it. Well done everyone there. ( And one member of staff even knows her times tables 😁)

Walked here from Arrowe park today with the lads for lunch. This is one of my favourite pubs in the Wirral. Had my birthday party in the marquee recently and we normally have our Xmas party here every year. I think its success is because it's very good value as they currently do a two course lunch for less than £11. I had the Brussels pate for starters and the sweet chilli beef for the main meal. You normally have to book in advance though to get a table.

Had a wonderful time, gave it 5 stars to everything so don't understand you saying I only gave it 1 star

Good selection on menu cater for all appetites

We were sat by door, when it came to pay I asked for bill even though we hadn’t finished eating and still had drinks. The waitress returned with bill , I said I’d pay by cash, she returned a minute later with card machine! I replied I haven’t even looked at bill yet 2 minutes later she returned again asking for payment , I noticed 2 thugs at bar starring at us one overweight man another with beard, I gave her £40 and asked for £10 change as bill £27. I know she was being ordered by another lady to get payment. For microwave food it was ok ,but the atomosphere was intimidating , I regularly go out for meals, I wouldn’t recommend this pub. Further down road is irby mill and farmers which is proper home made food I recommend the management should sort this problem out.

First time visiting this very popular pub. Very nice décor with comfortable seating. Staff were very nice and helpful. The main menu consists mainly of wholesome popular meals and burgers. Two courses for £10.99 is very good value. Will certainly be returning in the near future.

Great food great prices had a bit of a wait for the food but when it arrived yum yum recommend the carbonara tasted homemade yesterday tried the afternoon tea very nice very good value at less than 10pounds per head thanks shippons

Been Shippons many times, recently we went for Boxing Day lunch and then again on New Years Eve, both visits were equally pleasing. The staff service & food are amazing, great atmosphere & value for money…..staff are always happy, and attentive & smiling which shows they are happy in their work, which is a reflection of how well the pub is managed…….just a pity they don’t serve Christmas dinner ! We would be there like a shot…..but everyone deserves a rest on Christmas Day ! Amazing place 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We hired the marquee for our wedding buffet.This was perfect for our family, friends and two small dogs!Great value,plenty of food for everyone and private enough to relax and celebrate our occasion.All staff were so friendly. The service was excellent from the kitchen/catering staff along with the efficient bar staff.There was plenty of high level heaters to keep us toasty warm along with the seasonal Christmas decorations that just made everything perfect for everyone.So many people commented on what a great place this was for any future family celebrations.All this service along with such fantastic value would be hard to find anywhere else.5+Stars!Thank you!

Very tasty buffet and side "room" in the marquee.Staff very attentive and obliging. Also excellent vfm.

Food was nice . But where we sat there was a terrible smell from.the toilets that wasnt pleasant. We did tell them when we paid the bill but didnt seem bothered.

A very disappointing day for sons christening. We had booked my sons christening at the marquee 2 months in advance after having great experiences here before in the restaurant & the marquee looked beautiful at Christmas time. We advised there would be 40 people attending including my family that flew over from Ireland to come. After an initial telephone call, a face to face discussion also & a final telephone call to confirm Option A buffet with the scouse meal as hot option for the extra fee, after all it is December & I wanted my guests to have a hot meal as well as sandwiches, all was booked for a set fee which we were more than happy to pay! We arrived and everything was great sandwiches came out until we questioned why the hot food was taking so long. It was now after 3pm at this rate. When asked when it would be coming out, the lady who I've seen in person twice & spoken to on the phone twice came out and said we never ordered the hot food. To make things worse she advised of a conversion on the phone about tea and coffee that never took place, I was never offered this option and insisted she was lying about this. To this she replied no it definitely happened which the most annoying attitude and snottiness I've ever encountered. It was 3pm my guests were here 2 hours already & I was getting extremely annoyed at what had happened, was so disappointing to not get what we paid for when we confirmed this 4 times!! We were been advised on this option with the added hot dish instead of option C (4 hot dishes) as we only wanted the one hot dish & everyone loves Scouse on a cold day. We ended up having people leave after this as no wonder why they were hungry, we weren't even offered discount, another option or an other resolution to feed my guests! we were giving business for nearly 7 hours with 40 people buying at the bar all day! To not been given the meals we paid for is an absolute disgrace & complete let down! If that wasn't bad enough even the smallest thing was a chore for them & the attitude of the lady in red top at the bar when I asked for a bin liner to clean the tables & a knife for cutting the cake I was told why do you need a bin bag, you don't need one! I told her that the place was becoming untidy and people can't put their drinks on the table, her attitude was absolutely terrible. Overall it is so disappointing left a very sour taste in my guests mouth, even a few days later it is still so frustrating that the manager was making up lies about a telephone call, and not committing to their word & what I paid £300 for 3 plates of sandwiches. I know I won't be returning here which is a shame as it's very local to me & great food but to not even be given an apology or even attempt to make the situation right is distasteful. My only regret is not leaving when this happened as the fact we were even continuing to buy at the bar even annoyed me contributing to their business when they've let me down & my family travelling to attend.

If this was Ofsted graded it would recieve OUTSTANDING. Absolutely love everything about this pub. The service is immpeccable, food delightful, delicious & home cooked. 3 course Christmas dinner £17.95 amazing. Staff welcoming & honest, kind, happy in what they do. A warm, welcoming rustic & homely charm set in a converted old barn. Absolutely fabulous :)

This was this year's annual visit to the Shippons for my Birthday meal while cashing in on the Christmas menu. Today was asked to move the the marque. At first this seemed like a possible ill thought-out choice given the bonkers cold spell, and the temp was borderline cold/warm. But the staff were more than happy to switch on extra heaters and soon the marque became our own private Christmas wonderland. The food as ever was great and the prices you would struggle to beat anywhere else. What really stood out for my tonight was the staff. Don't get me wrong the staff the past years have been good, but tonight they were attentive, funny, friendly, and genuinely the type of staff you would dream to have working for you. A great little team and a real set of assets to the place. Hopefully see you for my birthday next year!

I cannot praise this place enough, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I have visited previously with friends for meals and the food has always been presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Today I visited to have afternoon lunch and yet again was absolutely delighted, the cakes were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend to everyone to visit.

Booked the marque area for my mum's 90th birthday. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The area was clean, well set up and well heated.Buffet food especially the Scouse was fabulous. Everybody had a wonderful time.

First time here for a funeral unfortunately. The pub is lovely and good good.

We had our small wedding reception in the marquee which is a great venue if you want a chilled party. The kitchen did an amazing job with the food/buffet, there were so many compliments regarding both the food and the venue. The staff were lovely as usual always happy to help nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely day thank you. Deb & Dave.

You get what you pay for……. cheap! Won’t hurry back! There are much better venues in the area with decent food on offer. P

An outstandingly superb place!!! Excellent food at very reasonable prices!!! The atmosphere is welcoming and the ambiance is everything you could wish for. They even welcome dogs!!! It's advisable to book in advance as, for good reason, they get very busy. P.S. I would also like to thank Lynne again. She made our visit all the more pleasant. She was especially patient while I chose my main course.

My daughter and her partner hired the marquee for my granddaughters 2nd birthday family get together. It’s a really nicely decorated space. Plenty of daylight. There are heaters up on the walls if needed. We had the basic buffet which was perfect and plenty for the guests. Really pleasant room and the staff were lovely. Will definitely use the marquee for future events.

This ws the second time we'd been to Shippons. The staff were excellent, placing us near the door, as requested, because one of our party has difficulty walking. Food choice was very good, the service pleasant, and the meal itself just right. And all for a most reasonable charge.

Gorgeous roast dinner and pudding. There were four of us, 2 ordered meat roasts, one had the gammon and I had the veggie roast. It was all perfect. We had two treacle toffee puddings and a cheesecake, which were delicious. Even though there was a private event going on in the marquee, the staff were still attentive and we had no problems at all. Great place. Could do with more vegan options but otherwise loved it. Staff are amazing.

Fantastic place and food is great only thing that would be better is having add ons for the roast dinner, Yorkshire puddings / stuffing as not all roasts come with them. But awesome place

We were seated right in the middle of the restaurant with everyone walking by, which is not ideal and I don't think there really should be seating there at all. The vegetarian roast dinner was very good, as were the starters. My family also liked their main meals, although my dad said the meat was a little tough. The younger girls waitressing were fantastic. Very friendly, attentive and helpful. However, half way through our meal there seemed to be a staff switch over and then there appeared to be less staff. When it came to puddings, sadly, I opted for the rhubarb crumble, which was really awful- no other word for it. Stodgy, undercooked and totally tasteless- I've no idea how a chef could make such a disgusting pudding. My daughter had a waffle with ice cream which was fine. The food is very cheap here but if one course is totally inedible, then it's no longer good value. I did tell a member of staff about the pudding and she said she would 'feed that back'. However, we were offered nothing at all to make up for it.

Just had a lovely family lunch. The food was great. The staff are so friendly. Been here a few times over the years and have always had a lovely time. Very reasonably priced. The building is very welcoming and beautifully decorated. Keep up the excellent work. Love it 🥰 x

service a but slow disappointment in the food , need steak knife to cut through a yorkshire pud , breadcrumb fish had to scrape fish off was so hard , salad with starter was lettuce and coleslaw ? ? won’t be returning

Our first visit and a little late in the day, so we missed out on most of our first choice veggie options. However, the food we ordered was well presented, tasty and well portioned. The cheesecake was superb! The service was just a little on the slow side but the staff were very friendly and always had a smile. The standard selection of beers, for a Thwaites pub and we'll kept.

We went to the shippins for a drink early Saturday night. The restaurant side was fully booked with no tables so sit at for a drink. The other room (the conservatory/tent) was empty so we sat in there to have our drinks only to be told it was booked for a party and could we move. Given that there were no tables for a drink in the bar and no seats at the bar we decided to leave and sadly never to return!! I have never felt so unwelcome in a pub in my life and its sad as its only at the top of our road and could be our local.

Went here for a dinner one Tuesday dinnertime. No problem with getting a table. Service was first class and food was fantastic. Will deffinatley be returning here.

Bigger portions would be nice for the hungrier person and sausage and mash has been taken off the menu. Please add a mixed grill to the menu . Great food and superb service .

As always the food was top notch and plentiful. Cant fault anything about the experience of dining at The Shippons .

The food was delicious as per usual, but given it wasn’t a particularly busy night the service was a bit slow . Other than this was a fabulous night and I know this isn’t the usual service so i will definitely be back again 👍

We t to the Shippons fir Sunday lunch yesterday, it was a very nice experience, from the time we arrived until we left. The food was delicious. Plenty of vegetables, well cooked, the plates were hot so the food stayed hit longer. Staff very friendly and professional. A great experience. We are certainly going back. And we were not rushed out! Thank you. 😊
