The Shippons in Wirral

It is a lovely pub/kitchen to spend your time enjoying wonderful food with great friends and family. I recommend everyone to visit and enjoy a lovely meal at the Shippons Restaurant. The service was great. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I thank them all for a wonderful time, food, and service.

Came from London to see mum and dad, got taken here, really cosy pub, dogs allowed, menu extremely reasonable price, order was slightly wrong chips instead of mash but we left it. Overall nice enough.

What a great pub for lunch! 33 of us walkers today and all our lunches were spot on. Served quickly and by such pleasant helpful staff, very good value for money and I had to leave half of my delicious cheese and onion baguette as there was so much!

Lovely pub, staff very friendly and attentive but food lacking . I know for £13 two courses is value but could be better. Saying that the soups are lovely and the desserts are fine but the mains are average. My chips were undercooked, and chicken tough. If they improve mains then it's a great meal.

My sons booked the Shippons function room for my 70th birthday. Could not find fault with the food which was lovely. However we were told it was 11 o'clock bar. The staff appeared at 10.45pm & began to move the tables. We we asked what was happened were told "we are closing shortly" when we queried it we were then told "no we close at 11pm. My sons had spent a lot of money on the food as well as guests purchasing drinks. This was an outrage absolutely disgusting. Truth be told they wanted an early night. There was nobody in the bar area hence why they wanted to close. Gets worse we had quite a lot of food left & asked if we could have the same boxed up and was told no we couldn't. When asked if we could take the sandwiches home in the plastic tears & return the same the following day - reply no. They literally threw cling film on the table & said use that. Absolute disgrace & unbelievable. We were told the following day by my daughter in law that her friend hired the function room for the night time of her wedding. The staff boxed all the leftover food up for them. This is what we expected but got treated the opposite. My sons put a complaint in and has never received a reply not even an apology. I went here quite often but never again. I will tell everyone what happened. They ruined my special birthday. Disgusted and disappointed is an understatement.

No steak knife came with the meal , beef roast dinner. Two large pieces of beef, hard to cut and very hard to chew it. Ended up taking it home for the dog.

Great value for money! You simply cannot turn your nose up at the Shippons, it’s a very delightful place to eat and drink. Prices are excellent - The Shippons is one of the only reasonably priced restaurants around! Great atmosphere with friendly staff. Portion sizes were not as generous as usual on this visit but the food was delicious. Definitely recommend!

Very poor food but decent serving staff. We went for Sunday lunch, 2 of us had the roast beef dinner, chewy beef and so called roast potatoes that had been cooked in a chip fryer so not roast at all. Hubby had so called beef pie, not a pie as it was just some stewed beef in gravy with a totally separate disc of puff pastry plonked on top. Never again, very poor quality all round.

Pics were taken on night of their Burns night celebrations & it was a terrific night with a 4 course meal & complimentary shot of Whiskey for under £20 per person. All the food is homemade by ther chef & the staff are helpfull, friendly & work extremely hard so I always enjoy eating there & I always tip at end of the night when I leave.

Went just to check out the venue for a family event. Atmosphere felt good. Wil be going back to try the food but what we saw of other meals, it looks very nice.

A bustling pub and restaurant with friendly staff. Food is good quality and the prices are competitive. Beers are around £5 a pint and there’s a good variety of spirits on offer.

Went here for Christmas dinner and it was really nice and filling and a great price. Staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Have been before and will definitely go again.

We visited for Christmas lunch for the 4th year. Absolutely fantastic. Couldn't fault a thing. Be back soon for the Braised steak!!!!!

Went tonight with my husband for the Christmas meal .. staff where very friendly .. the food was beautiful I had the Turkey & hubby had the beef .. we had the starter & pudding too ..

I’ve been going to The Shippons for 7 years and never had a bad meal there and always full of praise . However, tonight my opinion has changed . I’m not sure if it’s under different management but it’s not as good as it was. The staff very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere & surroundings good . The food was a let down tonight. The roast potatoes were Aunt Bessie’s or equivalent Processed meat & frozen veg. The trifle was the synthetic cream . I know it’s very reasonably priced but I used to love the home cooked variety of meals. If I’d known the menu was only the Christmas menu I would not have gone. A shame really .

Recently went to Shippons for their 3 course Xmas meal. Excellent value for good food. The staff were friendly, very helpful and professional. Only downside was, our friends lost their deposit because they were unable to travel from Wales because storm Darragh. We tried to inform the pub several times but couldn't get through.

My first trip to the Shippons, and possibly my last. We had the Xmas dinner and were disappointed with the food, the roasties were rock hard and white in colour, the cabbage could have been cooked a little longer, I had the braised steak, very tasty but unfortunately it was very chewy, the cauliflower cheese had no seasoning in it and hardly tasted of cheese. The best part of this outing was spending time with friends.

A lovely afternoon tea today with a group of ladies, the food was lovely & very well presented, the service was 1st class. Thank you all. Will definitely be coming back with family next time 😀

Was a great pub years ago full of atmosphere & merriment & character! Then they changed the layout to a more open plan & heavily leant towards the catering side! Killed it for me but it depends what you want?

Just had afternoon tea with a large cycling group of friends. The service and food could not be faulted. Thanks to the young lady who looked after the group.

Sorry it’s taken so longer to write this review, we had my mum wake at the venue. I can speak highly enough of the team (Stephen/Laura), sorry is it’s Steve.. Nothing was too much for us on the day, great hospitality, would recommend the venue for any type of function.

What an absolutely lovely little place, the food is fabulous, the staff are absolutely lovely and the service is wonderful.

We visited for some light snacks whilst watching a live singer. It was a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with the right volume and type of music you can enjoy whilst eating. The food was served piping hot (cheesy chips & garlic bread) but after seeing all the other dishes being served I wish I had come for my main meal. All the staff were extremely hospitable and seem very happy to be there serving you. Everywhere was clean and tidy including the toilet facilities. Outside has a lovely spacious covered area with the right amount of lighting. If you’re passing through irby it’s well worth popping in, be it for a meal or just a quick drink you won’t be disappointed.

Even though it was busy, the service was good. The food, Chilli baked potato, was served quickly, and our server was pleasant and helpful. Really enjoyed my crumble and hot custard.

A really sound place for decent pub food: nothing over fancy but good pub grub with something for everyone. Brilliant service. Can be a bit noisy when full! And they had bitter lemon- something very lacking 'up north' 😁

Visited today with family & it was busy when we arrived. We had not booked, but were offered a table & got very quick service considering how many people were eating & had ordered before us. I had the cajun chicken, with salad & chips. It was a decent portion & the chicken was well cooked. Family had a variety of different dishes from the 2 courses for £11.99 & they were all happy with their meals. We all opted for the apple crumble for afters which was also very nice. Not too sweet, just right, but decent pieces of apple in too. The two ladies who were serving were really friendly & the place had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be going back *****

I’ve only recently stumbled across The Shippons but I am very impressed with the service we’ve received each time we’ve been. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. The food is very reasonably priced and most importantly very nice. Although it was busy when we’ve been the food didn’t take an age to come out. I will definitely be eating here again.

Great atmosphere, staff members were all so lovely, attentive and professional! The food was nice and for the price of two courses at £11.99, a bargain in this economy! I ordered a carrot cake for dessert as well and the slice was huge! 😋 Unfortunately my partner ordered a sticky toffee pudding, the portion was about 2 bites and the bacon and cheese burger was a tiny bit dry, apart from that would definitely go again! It's just a bit of a shame I had a different experience compared to the company I was with.

Found a pubic hair on my egg, also ham was freezing cold. Never complained before but this place I will not be returning to. table was wobbly and it smelt like dog too

we had the outdoor function room today for a suprise 65th birthday atmosphere was great food for superb staff were extremely helpful and obliging and nothing too much for them great day and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the shippons fab fab fab xxx

Oh my word my friend introduced me to the shippons. Well I'm glad he did. Food is amazing absolutely gorgeous, the staff are really really friendly and it's got a lovely atmosphere you don't feel out of place there. I love it

Walked here from Arrowe park today with the lads for lunch. This is one of my favourite pubs in the Wirral. Had my birthday party in the marquee recently and we normally have our Xmas party here every year. I think its success is because it's very good value as they currently do a two course lunch for less than £11. I had the Brussels pate for starters and the sweet chilli beef for the main meal. You normally have to book in advance though to get a table. Recently tried a new option on the menu, the ploughmans lunch, would recommend it...

Friendly and welcoming pub! Absolutely fantastic food, especially the Sunday lunch! Excellent drink choices. Service first class, nothing to much trouble. Dog friendly as well, for those with pooches! Well worth a visit!

Today was my birthday and my partner decided to book a table at Shippons. I was looking forward to this however, I have medical issues and I require to sit at a table in the corner (there’s many as I saw, but they were taken by other eaters). Sadly to my surprise we were seated at a table in the middle of everything, which I just can’t do. The waitress said she didn’t read the notes, and obviously no one had read them before hand to ensure a reserved table. Not great when you have medical issues. Thanks for a great birthday!

Came for my nans 88 birthday for a afternoon tea bit disappointed as we ask for no fish on one afternoon tea but looks like the same knife was used and it was over the ham and cheese and my mum was allergic to fish we told the staff and she apologised and refunded one before telling us make sure u definitely said it as it was my booking and u just said no fish what wasn't right anyway also think the ladies toilets need looking at as well as hand dryer was disgusting!!

Luckily we booked for afternoon tea, the place was pretty full for lunch mid week. Seems to be a popular place to eat. The afternoon tea was lovely, with plenty for two of us. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

It's my very favourite place to come for tea with my husband and dad. The 3 of us go out for our tea once a week. This is always my choice. The food, the service and the staff make for a very pleasant evening. So thank you to all the Team at the Shippons. Lisa.

Great food great staff and atmosphere, came when it was fully booked after leaving the cottage loaf with with no food so went to wait for the crowds to go in the restaurant in the gazebo, 20 minutes later the waitress came in and informed us that a table had cancelled, great staff will definitely visit again amazing prices too!

Ordered "Hunter's Chicken's , half chips, half rice. It was luke warm. The rice was tastless & grittty .,. .. didn't look like rice. The chips were mainly the scrap ends . The meal does not include vegetables. An unpleasant meal altogether.

Wow 🤩 A group from the Village YAH ( young at heart)had afternoon tea here this afternoon. Where to start: a great afternoon. Delicious food sandwiches and cakes, choice of coffee and teas. Lovely friendly efficient staff. They tweaked some teas eg. No butter, gluten free. Nothing was too much trouble. Even provided boxes 📦 for some to take home what they couldn’t manage to eat. At under £20 for two people. Excellent value for money. Thank you for a great time.

MNDA Wirral Group held a fundraising Afternoon Tea in the marquee on 2 July and what a marvellous afternoon we had! The food was delicious and plentiful, the staff were friendly and attentive and we also enjoyed great music from Garry Murphy. A sincere thank you to Laura and Steve for hosting us and to all their lovely staff. Would thoroughly recommend The Shippons.

Lovely tea time meal. Wasn't too busy and the food and service very good. Prices very good as they do deal for 2 or 3 courses. Worth a visit.

Had my Dad's 80th Birthday here last night .Nothing was too much trouble for the staff ,The pub did a buffet which was lovely and Gary Murphy was playing. We all had a fantastic night

There are too many pubs trying to be restaurants, but the Shippons feels like a restaurant trying to be a pub... The food was of a better standard than most others in the area, the homemade chips were a pleasant change from the mass produced frozen ones served up in other eateries. Although it was a busy Friday evening, my starters were served after a 10 minute wait, my main courses came about 5 minutes after the starters had been cleared. The set menu offers plenty of choice for £11.99 for two courses. The service was friendly, there were plenty of staff all taking care of customers, not stood chatting with their colleagues. The timing of the staff was perfect and I could tell they had been well trained. The atmosphere somewhat reminded me of what pubs used to be like about 30 years ago. This is what most other places is missing nowadays, I was relaxed, and able to enjoy delicious food and a cold beer in comfortable surroundings, which is what I think most people are searching for when eating out.

So, no idea where the name comes from. Let me know if you know :) Lovely food at a very reasonable price. Singer was on when we visited, did not stop for 2 hours :) Entertaining without being overpowering. If we're in the area again will revisit.

Amazing place to go for a meal. We went for my nans 80th and the music and the staff were amazing. Are waitress was a lady called Leigh and she was wonderful and a joy to speak to. Recommend anyone who wants to chill and have a laugh.

1st time, it was a really nice place for a family to enjoy a meal together. The food was hot, and everyone enjoyed it. The puddings went down a treat

I booked the Marquee for our Wives group to have afternoon tea. Twenty of us sat down to an excellent tea of sandwiches,quiche, scotch egg, cakes and jam and cream scone. The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough to make sure our visit was perfect. One lady was gluten free and a special tier of sandwiches etc was specially made up for her. This was our second year of booking with the Shippons and I would recommend them. Also for two years running we have used their outside catering service in the autumn for our Wives supper. A supper business and a gem in Irby.

Lovely pub with good wheel chair access and very friendly staff , we had toasted sandwiches and they were huge ! so filling and well prepared. Great selection of beers as well, so that's an important box ticked 😉, very clean inside, and comfortable well worth a visit .

Just been to the shippons irby had a lovely roast with my husband food lovely and cheap the staff are absolutely lovely nothing to much trouble go above and beyond make you feel very welcome lovely place to eat we will be back thank you

Another fab visit for us, but 1st time for our relatives visiting from Canada. They were so impressed with food and service. We will be visiting again before they return home.

We ate here for mothers day, and I can truly say it was the best food, the best service, the best atmosphere. All the staff are 100% a credit to your company. All the food was cooked to perfection 👌

Just happened to call into here while waiting to collect my car from the garage. My sister and I had a little lunch of jacket potato and corned beef hash. Absolutely loved it. Well done everyone there. ( And one member of staff even knows her times tables 😁)
