The Gravesberie Inn, Greene King Pub & Grill in Wirral

I rarely leave reviews and hate having to leave a negative review but the Gravesberie is one of our local pubs that we would visit quite often, it was always a great go to for family celebrations etc. but we went recently as my husband loves their vast menu and great steak options, only to find a completely new, more restricted and yet more expensive menu! We were so disappointed that there is only one steak option (used to be multiple plus tomahawks etc.) and they have ditched all the amazing items that made them a high scale, unique pub experience which is why we loved it. Getting rid of grill options such as fajitas etc. as well. The new menu was highly disappointed, restrictive and just typical pub food, which sadly has made the venue lose its uniqueness for us, which is so sad to say! The food we did order wasn’t the best either, I ordered a veggie option and it was super bland. Husband still enjoyed the one steak option as they have always done steak well but my other family members were also disappointed in their choices, We hope they can bring back their unique and more varied menu as these new choices are so disappointing - and we are sorry to say that because we used to love the pub!

I’ve been coming to The Gravesberie Inn for a few years and it’s always been a good experience. I went tonight and found out they had changed the menu recently to a short menu with not many options. I ordered the £20 sirloin steak as this was the only steak to choose from and it was awful. It tasted like iron with a burnt flavour where they had over done the charred grill marks. There was no colour on the steak besides the burnt grill marks, it looked like it had been boiled. It was chewy and didn’t taste like sirloin whatsoever. I’m not sure if the chef has changed but the steak is usually spot on. It’s been 3 hours and I still can’t get the iron/blood taste out my mouth. It’s a shame really I did like this place but I won’t be returning unfortunately.

Staff friendly. Food not very good. I had the vegetarian wellington roast - upside down pie - and would use a word another reviewer used for the food - underwhelming. Microwaved a bit too much.

Recently visited this pub which inside is tastefully decorated throughout A typical GreeneKing pub which always has my senses alerted to the menu The steak and ale pie although large was cold and sloppy , the mash was stodgy and tasteless , peas cold , the gravy was the only thing hot ! A score of 2 is very generous and that is due to the friendly staff

Staff were friendly and it has a clean and fresh decor. The food is ok, about right for the price but nothing special.

Went tonight for a family meal. Our first visit since the new menu was introduced. We weren't disappointed. We shared a trio of tasty starters then I had the Fish Pie which was loaded with fish prawns & salmon. My daughter went for the Beef Duo and granddaughter had Fish n chips. All meals were absolutely delicious and presented well and served to us by pleasant friendly staff. A good range of drinks and cocktails is available. Will definitely be going back.

First visit very slow service, had the BBQ chicken on chibata. I was expecting a chicken breast perhaps sliced with BBQ sauce. No mayo on the dry bread, the chicken reminded me of fish fingers cut in bits, the supposedly crisp batte r was not. A small amount of BBQ sauce on one end, no cheese or honey. Maybe this is what passes for English food. Having lived in Canada I am slowly trying to adjust to the way things are done here. Thanks for replying, pity you where not willing to say come back and let us put it right. Why not say trial menu and some ingredients might be missing.

Cold food not as described I had a Signature dish no buttered cabbage no roasted carrots in a honey glaze peas are peas the gammon my freinds had was overcooked, dry.will not be going back

Long time customer here, my family and i have been coming here since it was the 12th man. We come most weeks for a mid-week dinner to break things up from cooking at home. To afford this I'll often order from the lunch menu before it finishes at 5pm. Occasionally we'll order off the main menu but the food here is expensive (£15 for fish and chips is NOT cheap). A few weeks ago we came for another mid-week meal around 16:30 on a Thursday if I recall. The staff as usual were great, we know most of them now and are very friendly with them. Drinks are expensive here so to make a mid-week dinner affordable my wife will have an alcoholic drink whilst my son and I will have soft drinks. Now the food is what id really like to talk about. During our last meal my son ordered the 6 chicken nuggets, chips and beans. It came with 8 chips which was incredibly stingy. I got the Salmon off the lunch menu. My dish was tiny even smaller than the normal reduced size lunch menu (but I have to ask why are lunch menu items smaller, do people need less food during the day?). One tiny piece of salmon, four tiny boiled potatoes and a little garnish on the side - wouldn't fill a mouse. The first salmon came and the skin was burned black, I had the waitress bring me another. Second salmon was maybe a reheat or something - was anaemic yet dry, some parts where chewy as if it were stale. I persevered and ate it (took me 60 seconds) and was going to complain on my way out but the waitress was busy. Last week we came in again for a mid-week dinner. Now the menu has changed and the lunch menu now stops at 3pm. We struggled to find anything to our taste or affordable so we left. For the manager - I'll likely be back for a few drinks with friends but probably won't come back for dinner any time soon. Reason: You are very stingy with your food, portion sizes are very small, your meals on the main menu are over priced and you've changed the lunch time menu to finish at 3pm - I guess you cant have people getting those cheap meals after work.

After spending a day indoors was looking forward to catching up with friends watching sport and having some good conversations for a couple of hours. Unfortunately, that was before we arrived at the Gravesberrie Inn. For the third weekend in a row the drink of choice was not available! John Smiths was not available two weekends ago, so two of us went into Abbotts, last weekend Abbotts was but available so we want into Speckled Hen. This weekend Speckled Hen ran out so we had to go on Timothy Taylor. The lagers have been limited to two for the last three weeks, Peroni at nearly £7 a pint or Moretti once again over £6 a pint All of the beers are being changed with 6 ciders now being offered ! Non of the beers or drinks has prices displayed in the menus so you will not know what you are being charged until you pay. Coffee prices are £6.99 for a cup not even Costa or Starbucks are that exorbitant !!! The menu changed on Friday and the food has increased in price while what you are served is half of the quantity that you used to get and half of the choices! This smacks of someone from head office trying to impress without having any knowledge of the clientele or the area ! It appears that Green King have no interest I what the customers want or say and may even be trying to close the pub down ! This is from a group of customers who have a combined 120 years supporting this particular venue !!

One member of staff gave the impression they didn't want to be there and the new menu is lacking in choice,boring and overpriced for what you get avoid at all costs

We weren't sure where to grab some lunch and tried here as it was on our route. We weren't let down, good food and really nice staff, thank you.

Crispy squid like rubber not cooked well at all chips were cool not hot fish was greasy no thought put into the cooking disappointed really other times foods been OK.

Picked off the lunch menu, went for the steak ciabatta, wasn't the best meal ever. brown lettuce yuk, ciabatta was not toasted the steak was Luke warm at best.wanting to try a dessert !

We eat here regularly and it is really great in every way. The staff are lovely and you get the feeling that they actually like working there. The venue is beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable. And the food is consistently fantastic- everything is fresh, really tasty and beautifully presented. I usually have the salmon fillet, because it is delicious but I have also had many other meals and I have never had a bad meal here. The only critism I could offer is that sometimes the meals seem a little small for the price, but that's not every time.

Popped in here after passing by. Our first visit and I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. A lovely venue by green king. Ideally, you should book, but they managed to fit us in. So, first impressions were great. We were shown to our table and ordered drinks. We ordered food, and it arrived about 15 minutes later. I had an ultimate burger, which was absolutely delicious. It was cooked to perfection and probably one of the nicest burgers I've had in a while. My wife had a rainbow salad with grilled chicken. She enjoyed it that much she is planning on replicating it at home. It was packed with so much variety. It's definitely not a boring salad. Overall, the experience was fab and reasonably priced, with very attentive staff. We will most definitely be returning in the future

Food was awful 😖 bang bang cauliflower was very overdone and dry .rib eye steak for main was inedible took it home to feed local foxes . Steak and ale pie was truly awful pastry like concrete no filling and very dry .gravy in tiny gravy boat even had big lumps a shame as staff and service very good ....

Food was nice enough, service felt a bit rushed like they wanted us off the table as soon ad we had eaten vut was definitely pro active and staff were present which was good.

I went with my mum for Christmas dinner we had a 3 course dinner starters mushroom and cauliflower soup with fresh bread and mains a full roast dinner with everything and pudding we had christmas pudding with brandy sauce it was all very tasty. On arrival we were offered a prosecco wine which was served at our table we'd paid in advance so everything we ordered beforehand was served to us at our table. The only thing was i asked for tea for two which we never received and the table was wobbly uneven legs so we had to ask for something to stabilize the table and because we were offered a prosecco drink on arrival i thought it was complimentary drink so when we finished everything i mentioned we'd paid in advance but she brought over a bill for the prosecco we were given on arrival we didn't complain i said to mum i didn't realize we were offered a drink on arrival that we would later be charged for it we even gave a tip to our waitress but didn't expect a bill for the free prosecco so not only was the table wobbly we never got our tea for two which we paid for including a starter a main and pudding with drinks we were charged extra on top for the wine but overall it was nice celebrating our Christmas day together nice friendly staff good service clean so my only advice to anyone is check before they offer you a glass of prosecco as you enter before you sit down that it's not free or courteous that you will be charged later on.

I had a very disappointing experience at The Gravesberie the other night . I ordered a pint, which took 30 minutes to arrive, despite the pub not being overly busy. To make matters worse, the waitress who served me was incredibly rude and dismissive when I asked about the delay. I brought the issue to the management’s attention, but they were completely unhelpful and did nothing to resolve the situation. Overall, poor service and a lack of accountability ruined what should have been an enjoyable visit. I won’t be returning

Been here a few times this year and it's been wonderful. Just had our Christmas day meal here today and it was one of the best meals. We've had in a while. The staff were a delight to speak to. Left the staff a tip at the end for a wonderful Christmas afternoon, drink at the door and a Christmas card on our table was a nice touch. Thoroughly recommended.

Whilst working in the Wirral I visited this pub for two weeks for my evening meals . The staff were all welcoming, friendly and considerate, constantly busy dealing with customers or ensuring tables were cleaned in a timely manner. Food was always well presented and tasted good! Nice atmosphere and clean environment, will visit again when working back in the area ! Thank you to all

Average burger partner had the steak and ale pie we were a bit puzzled as to why he was given an above average size steak knife until he tried to cut the pie the knife was to saw your into the rock hard pastry. The chips are OK won't be rushing back

Really nicely decorated pub, looks like just been done up. Waited 10minutes from drinks to come to table (3 of us) after ordering. Had to send the food back twice -the beef looked raw, so took back to kitchen. Then brought back -everything stone cold! Didn't send back again as too embarrassed too and felt bad on the waitress.

Low quality food. Yoghurt was tasteless. Bacon was ok, if uninspiring. Tomatoes were uncooked. Black pudding and sausages were both tasteless with a poor texture. All full of salt and sugar. Tea tasted old and stale.

Enjoyed another excellent family meal. Very attentive and friendly staff. Always a pleasure to visit. Food top rate, only disappointment------ Katsu chicken no longer on lunch menu, but we will still come back

The breakfast was amazing. Had it for a whole week from here. The food was good and the people are really friendly and the service is on top.

Don't go for breakfast it was awful 😫 that bad all 3 of us never eat it but the manager was amazing and never charged us, the staff are always very welcoming an friendly. I rate the dinners a 10 10 but definitely a no for breakfast

The pub side of the premises has now become a 'football pub'. Not long ago there was no television in the bar area at all, but now there is and Sky football is on full blast. There is a nice room at the back of the bar area with no telly, but still the football commentary is blasting out. Why is that necessary? You can't hear yourself think never mind have a conversation. I've complained to the staff with no success. This is really very sad as we have enjoyed going to this pub for several years. We are now looking for an alternative venue.

Just started celebrating my middle daughter’s 40th Birthday with a family breakfast and it could not have been better! We were welcomed nicely and the service was absolutely fantastic along with the atmosphere and the food. we all loved it, thankyou for making it so special.

Went out for my sons birthday Had an absolute brilliant night The staff were so welcoming Elaine our waitress looked after us all night and was the best And made sure we were happy with everything Food lovely too will defo be back

We had a really nice meal this evening. The 2 for 20 deal is great. We almost didn't try this place again as we came here just after covid, and we were so unimpressed with our starters we left without ordering mains. Total redemption today. Starters were amazing, the lamb cofta perfectly spiced with great sides, and the creamy mushrooms didn't need any extra seasoning. Steak cooked perfectly and a really meaty burger. I was surprised when I was told this place hasn't changed hands... but I'm sure alot of hard work has gone into this place to do a 360° turn like that. Really impressed and we'll be back

Table booked for a family of 6 @ 15:30 and considering it was a bank holiday it was quiet and ample staff were present to take orders. No table service was provided and I had to notify bar staff we were ready to order. A member of bar staff bar had taken our order and was a bit miffed as to why we were not served. No one came during the course of the meal as you would expect out of courtesy to ensure everything was OK. It was only as when we had finished our meals when members of staff cleared the table. We were presented with the desert menu and did not order deserts just due to the poor service, even though the meals served was very good.

Not Fresh Food All Frozen? Extremely disappointed with Sunday lunch only good thing was the Yorkshire Pudding. Food was obviously pre cooked and re heated.

Have a food allergy and they great at avoiding contamination and making sure before order if is any x only given 4 on food as with my allergy got limited on food options but there's loads amazing choices for those with bo issues x also add a 5* as it dog friendly till 6pm and it 1 side bar side so plenty of people can avoid and main restaurant dog free and have water bowl outside or Inside which great 👍 5*

Really nice pub , more a place to eat than a traditional pub, but that's what you get nowadays. Had a few meals here , very nice well cooked and good value . You can eat outside on the decking if the weather is good enough .

The food was amazing, my Mum and Dad eat here at least once a week. I had the vegan skewers, absolutely AMAZING! Definitely visit again!

Not been here for over a year and i regretted going back. I ordered a hunters chicken from the adult menu. When it arrived it looked more like a kids meal, basically half a chicken breast with a bit of cheese and bbq sauce no bacon. My dad had a steak pie which had about two pieces of steak in it. The woman serving was very nice but a but slow on the service. I never write reviews but i couldn’t believe how bad this was and unfortunately will never be returning.

On arrival quickly greeted and sat in comfy chairs. Lovely passion fruit lemonade. Unfortunately some lady begun to hoover up everywhere at 11ish am and for the entire time we were there. Never known this before. Normally cleaning duties are completed prior to opening. My friend ordered a full English. Hashbrowns were very soft and mushy. Mushrooms were on the menu but didnt come on the plate. Didn't particularly like anything she ate. I ordered avocado on toast with tomatoes which was disappointing. Thinly spread avocado, normally in other places I've received sliced avocado. We will be back but not for breakfast. Possibly towards the afternoon to check out another menu.

My son loved the Hunters Chicken and he absolutely loved the Ultimate Cookie Sharer, I had the Big BBQ Platter which was very nice

I’ve just ordered a latte and the signature burger, I got my with beef as you can see by the pictures, but there is 4 choices. The burger is nice, cooked well and the fries are lovely. I’m here at 16:44 and it’s quiet which is nice. I’m staying at the premier inn next door and I would recommend this pub for any traveler’s who are looking for a good meal.

Good food and service. Went at 2 in afternoon midweek so place a bit flat but would definitely return.

The staff here were very friendly and efficient but were let down by the kitchen. On a long journey, we called in for a light lunch. We ordered two delicious sounding ciabattas, only to be told they don’t serve the lunch menu on a Saturday. (Don’t people eat lunch on a Saturday?!). So not wanting a big meal there was not a lot of choice. We opted for the “chicken sharer”. I wish we hadn’t. I tried the Southern Fried Goujons first - they were over cooked and merely tasted of cooking oil. Next I tried the chicken wings - under the breadcrumb coating, the skin was very white and very stretchy, which I found completely gross. It completely put me off my food. I nibbled a bit of the fajita strips - they just tasted of reconstituted chicken with some seasoning on. Again unappealing. The dips did nothing to revive the meal either. Perhaps we just chose the wrong item on the menu, but sorry we won’t be back, despite the lovely front of house people.

Good value (for pubs these days) fairly wide range of choices, we were a group of 8. Everyone pleased with their lunch menu meals, I chose a feta and roast veg chiabatta with a side of chips and a lime soda (£12). Good fresh chiabatta, filling was cold, which was OK but surprising as it was 'roast' veg. Plenty of cheese and the small salad was adequate. Chips nice, crispy outside fluffy inside, obviously just cooked not left for ages like some are. Portion size was fine for me, but those with larger appetites might be better with one of the meals. The service was friendly, speedy, and very professional, and there was a good ambience and plenty of room. Everything was sparkling clean throughout the whole facility, including the restroom. Parking and disabled person access excellent. We were very pleased and will definitely visit again.

We've been several times and visited again with 6 adults and 3 children to celebrate a family birthday. Great service from all the staff, very friendly. Really lovely tasty food. All our party really enjoyed their meal. The chicken skewers and burgers in particular were great. There is a great choice for the children and they love going here. Our visit could not have been better.

Went there as part of a large group of ladies. Had a lovely meal served by very pleasant waiting on staff. Not too long an interval between courses either! A great afternoon was had by all! Food was hot and well presented and most tasty!! Definitely go again.

The service was OK and friendly staff but my partner found a piece of glass in hos pint. The response was oh yeah a glass broke in the dishwasher and to replace his pint, no offer if a refund though

Turned up without a booking, but we were easily accommodated, as it was a Wednesday evening. Nevertheless, there were still a few diners in the restaurant. Our server, Elaine, was excellent. She was cheerful and polite throughout our visit, and provided some good recommendations on what to eat. The Katsu curry was particularly delicious, and those who had the Nashville and Signature burgers in our party, were similarly impressed. Definitely a restaurant to recommend, and we will return for certain.

Stayed in Premier Inn next door, food was great along with excellent and attentive service from the staff.

Excellent service served with a smile, a quiet night with only a few customers but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Absolutely gorgeous meal tonight for my father in law's birthday. It was quite busy but the service was great and food was superb. I had rump steak cooked rare to medium and it was perfect. Not often I get a pub steak cooked exactly as I like it, it's generally a bit over but this was perfect. Their mini dessert and hot drink is the perfect sweet treat too. I had warm triple chocolate brownie and a cup of tea.

Really enjoyed a family birthday meal. The food was excellent and well priced. The staff were very attentive without being pushy. We all enjoyed our visit, this was not our first visit, and we will definitely be returning. Thank you.

One of our favourite restaurants and we keep coming back. The food is always great and the service is so friendly and welcoming! Latest date night we had a fillet steak each which was amazing, couldn't fault it! We even had desserts this time and tried the sharing platter which was great! Look forward to coming back soon.

A tale of two halves. We stayed at the Premier Inn next door and had a really brilliant evening meal. Excellent service and friendly staff. However, breakfast was absolutely dreadful. It is not acceptable to change from other premier inn breakfasts and not offer decent coffee. A cheap coffee in a stay warm pot is just dreadful and a totally unacceptable option. Where was the standard coffee machine I am used to at breakfasts when I stay at premier inn. Half the continental breakfast was not there and I must say this was disappointing. I expect a standard and it was just not there. Such a shame to see a really bad breakfast offering from what was otherwise a friendly pub.

Cheesy mushroom starter followed up by katsu chicken and both proved to be excellent choices....service was very attentive and friendly, no problems here and won't hesitate to go back....

We booked for a 60th birthday surprise, the place itself is tastefully decorated, the food however was not tasteful. I ordered grilled salmon with a variety of roast vegetables and a drizzle of garlic and parsley dressing. The food was swimming in oil, everything was greasy but not roasted! On questioning a member of staff, I was told it was a sauce, however if I wanted it without the sauce they could make me another meal, which was great. Until it arrived, vegetables all extremely undercooked verging on raw, greasy tasteless salmon, still drizzled in some concoction, accompanied with a small gravy boat of what turned out to be mint sauce with garlic and a lot of oil! The meal was inedible, I asked to speak to someone as obviously I had given them a chance to rectify the situation and now felt this was wholly unacceptable. The manageress came over told me the meal had been taken off the bill plus the last round of drinks, ( I hadn't ordered one, so didn't benefit me) I asked her about the contents of the gravy boat to which she replied it was a chimichurri sauce as on the menu with the salmon. I told her it was mint sauce, (no parsley in sight) garlic and oil also not on the menu with the salmon. I've had better meals here

We were a party of 8 and 1 year old baby. A last minute booking but they accommodated us well. Nothing was too much trouble. Food came out hot and everyone was able to eat together. Attentive and friendly at all times. Food was really nice.

Have had several meals here recently and all of them have been delicious. Orders always taken promptly and have never waited too long for food to arrive. Staff always accommodating and friendly. Elaine has looked after us on more than one occasion and is always so helpful and polite. I recommend the fajitas and the steak ciabatta, both very tasty. All the desserts are delicious, especially the cheesecake. Good portion sizes and good value for money.

Had a lovely night at the gravesberie inn. My wife and I were staying next door in the premier inn. The bar tender Rex was very professional and advised a beautiful mermaid gin to my wife which we had never seen before. The tables were very clean which is a nice change from sticky tables with empty glasses. The bar was extremely busy yet always remained tidy as the staff wouldn’t stop cleaning! Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely return upon our next stay in the Wirral.

Met with friends for Sunday lunch. Staff are always friendly, welcoming and engaging. At least they have banter with their customers. Food was enjoyed by all of us, good hot food. Puddings are also good. Service spot on. Best booking a table as it can be busy. Have been here many times and will always go back for a meal.

A really lovely pub! The atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly and the food really good. I recommend the Turkey roast, with additional cauliflower cheese! The service was a little slow on a Sunday, but it didn’t cause any issues
