We came to The Ship for our evening meal a few week back. There is plenty choice on the menu including all your pub favourites. I had the scampi which was quite nice although there was no tartare sauce (they brought some when asked) and no lemon. My husband had the cumberland sausage which he said was ok but it was over cooked. Huge portions. Parking available outside.

Great lunch here today. Staff were welcoming and friendly. I had the cheese pie with chips and beans which was really good and you got plenty on your plate. So much I couldn't finish it all. My partner had the vegetable Lasagne which was also very good. Thank you.

We always visit the Dovenby Ship when we are in the Lake District. Quite a distance from where we stay but well worth the journey.

Been here in the past not the great food tonight or the service food was a big let down lasagna was very greasy and chips cold staff very unprofessional. £105 spend won’t be back.

Went here for the first time in a long while as we fancied some where different for a change omg what a mistake that was. When we arrived the staff showed us to our table the floor was very slippy like greasey and tables and chairs were also very run down with stains and tables wernt nice either. Very run down and could do with a refresh. When the food arrived it was swimming in grease so much that we couldn't even eat the food which made the onion rings and chips all soggy. We sat for a long while but no one come over 2 see if the meal was okay or to take the plates away. So we just walked over the bar 2 pay the bill wen he asked behind the bar if everything was okay we told him that it wasn't great and swimming in grease... he just sed he was sorry about that.... 83.50 for a load of you know what....sh*@# Good luck if you decide to go!! I'll be sticking to my usual restaurants for now on ha.

5 different meals chosen, all very nice. Excellent value. Staff helpful and attentive. The first venue we’ve visited all week that has offered a wide choice of meals.

I booked a room here in June for business. After arriving and waiting for an hour I was told to return later as the room wasn’t ready. I duly did so and returned later that evening. I was told by staff to ring the owner as they said they couldn’t find the key for the room. The owner went on to tell me they’d lost the key for the room and there was nothing he could do. He then said he’d refund me. He has since blocked my number and will not return my calls with no sign of refund. Do not attempt to book a room here unless you want the same treatment.

Absolutely fabulous. There were four of us and our dog. We were very warm welcomed. The waiters were superb and very polite. The food was delicious. We all ate everything. The brownie was to die for. So fresh. Thank you all so much. We will be back very very soon.

This was very average, the service and the food … nobody came to ask if the food is ok… no questions about drinks till everybody has finished their meal …. We were a big ish group - some of the food was cold … the spot is not the cleanest … Quantity over quality on the food!

Last min treat. Went for the 2 for 20 meal at 5pm but on arrival it was 2 for 23 but only for lunch time. Both pick chicken in pepper sauce/ chips and salad £16.95, absolutely lovely. Chips were awesome. Loved it all. Salad was fresh. Chicken lovely Will return

We booked last min for a table of 11 The lad that was on was great he dealt with every thing we wanted and needed with no problems. Considering he was on his own he did a great job. The food was lovely and the portion sizes are huge defo worth the money just gutted we had no room left for deserts.

Went for lunch this afternoon to the dovenbyship. Food was very nice, as always. Although, sitting near the kitchen door was a mistake. You could hear every conversation staff were having. Not appropriate language and loud voices form all the men serving and cooking. One of the kitchen staff came out and started to change into motorbike attire by the bar, walking around with no shoes on across the restaurant floor. Didn't feel like we were sitting in the same restaurant as on previous occasions in the evening, but possibly less established staff on service today. Kind regards. 16/03/2023

I got there around 7 in the evening and was shown to my room, when the young man opened the door, the bed was unmade so he quickly shut the door again and said that he needed to sort the room out, I was asked to wait and it would be about 10 minutes. I went to my car to wait but nobody came to inform me that it was ready so I went back to the room after 20 mins. The sheets were not changed, he had just fixed the bed. The place was quite isolated and I was a female by myself so I was not confident enough to complain further. When I got ready for bed a constant beeping started. I phoned the hotel number and spoke to a member of staff, who said that he would sort it out, after about an hour it was still going so I called again but the phone went to voicemail! I messaged twice after that with no answer. I got absolutely no sleep all night and the guy in the room next to mine said he hadn't got any sleep for 2 nights as it had been faulty the night before as well. The next afternoon I called the hotel from work and spoke to the manager who assured me it was fixed and that he would refund me 1 nights money. I asked when and he told me on Saturday. When I didn't get the refund on Saturday, I called on Monday to chase it up and the manager said that he would do it that afternoon...I still hadn't received it the next day so I messaged him on Facebook messenger, to which his response was to block me and now everytime I call and they realise it's me, they hang up on me. Absolutely disgusting customer service, if you are not going to refund me at least have the decency to tell me instead of messing me around even more. I will never stay there again and I will never recommend it to anyone. The guy seemed really nice, just goes to show you can't trust anyone. It was overall an extremely upsetting experience.

Fui a este pub para una comida familiar anoche, y como estoy en un lugar en el que COVID - 19 está en pleno apogeo y hago todo lo posible para mantenerme a salvo, no puedo decir lo mismo de este pub y su personal, estaba muy molesto por la falta de EPP O incluso el reconocimiento de COVID - En mi opinión, 19 mesas con el restaurante se habían colocado muy cerca una de la otra y no había suficiente distancia de seguridad entre cada mesa, ya que para el personal no se advirtió ningún EPP por ellos, nos encontramos en la puerta por un hombre muy dulce en pantalones cortos y una camiseta. Pida bebidas que tardaron más de 30 minutos en llegar a nuestra mesa y que estaban mal cuando llegaron, al igual que la comida llegó justo antes de que pasara una hora, no nos habían dicho que había un retraso, cuando la comida apareció esperando al personal de la Cuaresma a través de nosotros en lo que veo como una zona de guardado para pasar a todos allí comida, otros restaurantes que he usado enEstos COVID - 19 veces, use una mesa vacía sin sillas para poner la comida para que el personal de servicio no se apoye sobre usted y mantenga una distancia de 2 metros junto con el PPE en guerra.En cuanto a la comida, ¿qué puedo decir aparte de que fue una mierda? Service was very fast and the food was amazing! Great value for money and all tables were socially distanced. The young gentleman serving us was also very polite and friendly. Would deffo come back next time we visit the lakes.

Aros de cebolla blandos y no suficientemente cocidos.¡Decidí tomar un gin tonic ya que no había más vino disponible! Vino con una pequeña cantidad de hielo y sin limón ni lima. Sin oferta de dulces y sin señal de ninguno de los 4 empleados para pagar la factura. ¡Tuve que caminar hasta el bar para encontrarlos a todos charlando!La falta de liderazgo y servicio al cliente fue muy deficiente. Tal vez fue porque no éramos locales, pero no volveremos allí durante nuestra estadía en esta hermosa parte del país.

Solía ser uno de los mejores pubs para comer, pero ayer vino con mi pareja y ambos quedamos muy decepcionados. Pedí el pollo agridulce que solía ser encantador, pero el pollo estaba muy duro y la salsa agridulce sabía como si estuviera fuera de un paquete. Mi compañero pidió una parrillada mixta y parecía que la carne simplemente calentada, definitivamente no estaba fresca. El personal era encantador, pero sin duda no volveré.

Visitamos la semana que volvió a abrir después del cierre. El servicio y la comida mejoraron mucho desde nuestra visita anterior el año pasado. La comida era deliciosa y fresca.Sin embargo, sentimos que no estaban cumpliendo con las reglas de seguridad de Covid. No se nos pidió información de contacto a la llegada o al hacer la reserva. ¡Esto no es bueno para rastrear y rastrear!Las mesas estaban un poco demasiado cerca, el personal no se cubría la cara y se acercó bastante al tomar nuestro pedido.Regresaremos, pero esperamos que se adhieran un poco más estrictamente a la seguridad de Covid.

Second vist to the Ship and again wasn’t disappointed. I had the 10 oz sirloin and peppercorn sauce. Meat cooked to my liking and the chips were the best I have ever had in a pub. Wife had the saucy chicken which she commented on as be good as it was for her on our previous visit. Was told that there was free wifi but no siginal where we were sat. Will definitly return.

Visited on a Friday lunch time and was surprised how popular this place was. Had always meant to visit this pub about 16 miles from where we live in St Bees.Staff were friendly and attentive. Visited the ship 25/2. Food was good but lady took our order of 5, read it back to us which was correct but when it came out one of the meals was wrong. Was told it would be a couple of minutes. 25minutes later the meal arrived but obviously we had finished ours the watched my Dad eat his alone. It was my Dads birthday so was a shame really. Nothing off the bill to reflect this happening which I thought was poor. Plus, they got a drinks order wrong. Food good, waitress needs to more switched on.

The restaurant wasn’t busy. We waited 25 minutes for our drink order to be taken. The restaurant is very shabby and needs updating. Service was poor apart from one waitress. Cutlery was dirty. The food was reasonable

Oh no. From one of our very favourite places what has gone wrong? Xmas lunch was chaotic. Staff did not know if we had booked (we had). The meal was served on cold plates and 2 portions served 10 minutes before the other 3. Chips came later and it was just unpleasant. Couldn’t have the xmas menu because it has to be ordered in advance? It’s only a roast dinner really. Sorry, we have parted ways.

Having been here many times and always had a good experience. Don’t know what happen today when we went for a family Christmas lunch . The bar was cold and the food was lukewarm served on cold plates . The food would have been lovely had it been warm . Half of the beers were off and half of the sweets were off ! The staff although pleasant were not trained in any way , so service was poor . When we came to pay , there were 10 of us , we were told the card machine wasn’t working!!! We were glad to get to our cars to warm up . Don’t know what is going on here but won’t be in a hurry to return or recommend.

When down at center parcs we decided to venture out a few days and stopped in at the ship for some lunch.

I was travelling for business meeting and needed some lunch and went to the ship for some food and I was very impressed. The food was outstanding everyone was really friendly such a nice place would visit again next time I'm passing.

The food is great priced and the portion size are brilliant and me and my family have always enjoyed eating at the ship in great service very friendly staff will be returning soon

During a recent stay with Family in Maryport, we had a recommendation for the Dovenby ship. Service was fantastic from start to finish. 12 Adults, (2 which are vegetarian, 1 gluten free) and 4 children is not an easy task. The menu was very varied and the food came out piping hot and all together. I had a rare steak, cooked to perfection and my partner had a gammon and sausage. Portions are massive but we all still managed. Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed the food and the toffee meringue roulade was to die for. Will be definitely be returning.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Meal came about 2 minutes after ordering which for hot food makes me think that it was far too quick. Cumberland sausage with fried egg and chips etc was awful, all just deep fried and greasy and just tasted of deep fat fryer. Steak pie was ok but just ok and the veg was watery and cold.

So tonight decided at the last minute to go out for supper. Live in a large village between Marport and Workington so started at Capt Nelson. We were told knot two kitchen staff on so they would not sevrve us just two meals. To be fair the lady was really polite but it was 7.30pm.

Even though I phoned and told them that someone in my family is gluten and dairy free well in advance. When the day came no effort had been made . Chicken curry or sausage. That was the choice. No pudding. Very poor service.

Haciendo otra larga espera, un servidor vino a limpiar la mesa vacía que estaba a nuestro lado, ignoró el hecho de que habíamos terminado, ignoró a otra dama que lo saludaba desesperadamente y procedió a limpiar la mesa pasándola por la mano para atrapar la sal derramada y migajas en su otra mano. Eso fue todo, la servilleta usada quedó en la mesa. absolutamente asqueroso. Esperamos a que despejaran nuestra mesa y un menú de postres. Ahora, la mitad de nosotros simplemente quería irnos, pero los demás querían un postre, así que nos quedamos. Un servidor despejó la mesa unos 25 minutos más tarde y prometió traer el menú de postres, y nunca apareció. Una vez más uno de nuestro grupo fue y consiguió el tablero del postre. Finalmente, una joven toma el pedido, aunque ha pasado tanto tiempo que algunos de nosotros no podemos recordar lo que queríamos. Espera de nuevo antes de que llegue la comida. Mi pedido fue mermelada de esponja con crema, apareció una esponja grande de mermelada con una cantidad de dedal de tamaño grande. Alguien más ordenó pastel y crema y recibió una pequeña porción de pastel servido con una enorme jarra de crema. Quienquiera que esté haciendo el control de porciones está equivocado. Después de estar allí más de tres horas, finalmente pagamos y nos fuimos, para no volver jamás. El servicio fue espantosamente malo, la comida ha ido dramáticamente cuesta abajo y el lugar en sí necesita limpieza y decoración. Went here again this is just spot on. Friendly staff ,good size portions , value for the money looking forward to the next visit . I had the bacon chops .Gill had the curry . Sorry on pics forgot my phone .. 10/10 all day long ...

there was 22 of us originally but 2 people couldn't make it, I was thinking the kitchen would have made the food already and was too late to cancel but when I asked the ladies behind the bar they told me it was fine. The food was all lovely and everyone really enjoyed it, also the service was really fast and it was very busy. Will be back
