We stopped here for a Sunday roast and had a fantastic experience! The man behind the bar was very friendly and accomodating, he managed to squeeze our family in even though they were very busy. The pork roast would have to be the best one I have had so far! Would definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely fantastic experience! This pub is an absolute gem. The Sunday Roasts were beyond imagination – perfectly cooked and bursting with flavour. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to find an equally delicious vegetarian roast option. They even offer a smaller roast, which is ideal for those travelling and looking for a lighter meal. The service was impeccable, the beer selection was outstanding, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable pub experience! Five stars, without a doubt!

We were travelling home from the New Forest on a Saturday evening and decided on a pitstop. We pulled into Upavon and there are two pubs opposite each other and we picked the Ship on external appearances. A very welcoming atmosphere in a spotless, beautifully presented bar in a truly gorgeous, serene part of the world. We didn't stop for food but that will be remedied the next time we come through. A proper village pub in every sense.👍

I looked at the opening houses on Google map and decided to meet a friend for coffee at 11am on a Wednesday couple of weeks ago before our walk as it was half way between our homes. When I arrived, the pub was closed and spoke to the landlord who was taking a delivery. I was told he didn't open until 12 noon. I pointed out his opening hours were wrong on Google map and suggested to him they needed updating. He told me it was Google's fault (which it isn't), as it is the responsibility of the business to update their own page. Since then, I made an edit suggestion to Google map and they've updated the opening hours within 24 hours of my request for the Wednesday only. Why can't the Ship do the same for the other days saving potential clients turning up when the pub is closed???

Nine elderly gentlemen walkers arrived for lunch after a 4 mile walk around nearby villages to be met by a very welcoming host in this warm cosy pub. We were impressed by the variety of pump beers and wide ranging menu and soon settled down on a big table with a pint of Butcombe Original waiting for our lunch. Delicious plates of Fish & Chips,Ham Egg and Chips etc soon arrived all of which were generous and well cooked-the chips scored highly on our ‘Chipadvisor Review! This pub delivers exactly what you expect a country village pub to do, and we all appreciated the care the young couple hosting took to look after us. Well done and thank you. It would be good to return.

We picked up a takeaway roast from the Ship Inn today. The gentleman behind the bar that took payment was very friendly and helpful - along with another member of staff, they even brought the roasts to my car! The roast was absolutely delicious and served on hot plates (they said to just drop them by when we’re next passing), so the food was still nice and warm by the time we got home. We are a family of four and they also serve children’s portions. I would highly recommend and will be a returning customer for sure.

We were in the area looking for a nice little pub for dinner and a few pints. Fortunately, Google Maps suggested 'The Ship'. First of all, we are from Germany and go out frequently in Germany (both in the local area and further afield) but also in France and have already been out for a nice meal in England from time to time. We have therefore already had quite a few experiences, some good and some, of course, unfortunately not so good (the latter, fortunately, only rarely). The ambience is quaint and incredibly cosy, the pub very dog-friendly (many of the guests, local and foreign, had their four-legged friends with them) and the boss and the waitress are both friendly and nice at all times and happy to help with the choice of beer to be enjoyed (in our case) and the selection of homemade dishes from a great selection. The boss and staff are always available for a few kind words and take exemplary care of the guests' physical well-being. After choosing our dinner (Ethel's Vegan Pie for my best half and the 'Ship's Beef Burger' to tide me over) we waited and had some nice conversations with other guests and each other and then the waitress appeared with simply the best food we both agreed we had ever enjoyed/experienced. Both dishes were perfectly prepared to the point, the meat was wonderfully juicy and the taste was absolutely amazing! With tangy cheese and a sauce you want to be soaked in, in an uber-delicious pretzel roll, it was quite simply the revelation in food. My wife also said the same about her pie, which I can and will absolutely confirm after self-testing - outrageously delicious and a real treat. Finally, I heard the chef recommend the cheesecake (also homemade) as dessert. So I ordered a slice and now unfortunately have to sorely miss this gigantic taste explosion until our next visit. The cheesecake is also unparalleled and is one of the best things I have ever tasted (and there have been some.... ;) ). Conclusion: 'The Ship' is an absolute MUST if you are travelling anywhere within a radius of at least 50 miles. For us, too, it will be part of every future visit when we return to Good Ol' England. Definitely the best recommendation from us! We'll be back! :)

The roast beef dinner at The Ship was excellent. The Yorkshire pudding was superb, not the usual bought in type, the batter was obviously made on the premises and pored into smoking hot fat tins which tasted so good with the roasted parsnips, roasted carrots, peas and red cabbage. Called in here today for a late lunch. 1 ploughmans 1 fish and chips. Well let me say .... the fish was excellent! Flaky fish! Well battered! Well cooked! And im not easily pleased !! Ample chips... and crushed peas rather than the stated mushy peas! But a lovely, well priced, ample portioned meal and plated well ! The Ploughmans was excellent also. Chunky Wiltshire ham , good cheese and partner loved the bread. Even ordered more bread! ( there was ample but he is an Irishman who knows a decent slice when he gets it !) Do not hesitate to pop in for a meal in my humble opinion! Also saw a burger being served which frankly .. looked fantastic ( seemed a double burger?!) £29 for the 2 GOOD meals and a lemonade plus fruit juice. £29 Well spent! Having recently moved from central London to Wiltshire I have to say this is one of the best pub meals we have had. We are most definitely going back one evening... partner wants a steak !! The food was spot on, a lovely steak, fish and chips and for the kids ‘the best Hawaiian Pizza’s’ finished off with what I think is the Land lady’s home made orange aero cheese cake, an absolute must. Thanks for a great visit - we will be back.

Scant service, offered a reserved table in an empty pub. Was served after new guests for some reason? Staff didn't know their menu, was asked 'when I was leaving' after being followed and served outside... And thought it was 'fine' that I'd been waiting to be served for 20 odd minutes, because they weren't looking around? Just way off in my view, getting served outside then getting asked when I was leaving was the coup de grace. Despite the pub nearly emptying half an hour later. I'd been there before the rush.. This establishment was female run, and the service seemed somewhat disconnected from its clientele.

Sadly not up to scratch. I visited on 07 October with my partner. The staff seemed pleasant and the waitress was nice. The food however was terrible. I had the fish and chips and it was one of the worst I have had. The fish batter was soggy, the tartare sauce looked like it had come straight out of a tub, the chips were swimming in pea water. I could barely eat half. Such a shame as we were hoping this could become our local but won’t be returning.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..
