This pub has a wonderful setting in Saltburn matched by an excellent menu for food across all dietary needs, which is priced well and shows off the chef's impressive culinary skills, and a range of drinks that tantalise, and for me an exceptional customer service whatever the question, that deserves five stars. NB: controlled car park limit of 3 hrs can be refreshed at the Bar.

Fab service and location! This is our 4th visit and every time we come here, we're made to feel so welcome. The staff are so friendly and give great service, especially Jess and Paul. Exactly the same experience as the previous reviewer, parked in a disabled bay with Blue badge displayed when visiting for lunch. The signs requesting signing in were not obvious and nothing was mentioned at the bar despite it being very quiet and one of our party being clearly physically disabled and very unlikely to have walked to the pub. Result was a £100 "fine" for parking. As regards the response from the owners to the previous review blaming Britannia for the issue presumably the owners decided to contract the parking to Britannia in the first place, and they are certainly responsible for the bar staff not letting people know. As for appealing the fine that's a hassle and we didn't bother keeping the receipt. The food wasn't great anyway, very average. The Ship has lost a customer from this experience, we certainly won't be back. I doubt this business model will be very successful making whatever they get out of the fines but losing customers.

Place was cold ?? Got fireplaces so use them !! Extremely disappointing behaviour. We booked a table and parked in the disabled bay , we put the ticket on and my disabled dad who is 91 , paid for this meal !! You’re now sending us a bill for £100 as parked unauthorised. We’ve called your pub and the receptionist said did you not register your number plate ? Did we need to after parking in disabled with a proper badge and the customer was there and paid the bill ?? MAYBE IN THE FUTURE your receptionists make EVERY customer aware of your practices!!

The food was nice and the atmosphere was. The pub was cold and the fires should have been lit tbh . All of the pubs in the town was warm and inviting. What has upset us the most is that we have a parking fine for £100 on a disabled parking bay when we displayed our badge and also payed on the same card associated with the badge !! My dad is 91 years old and we don’t need this rubbish !!! We will never use you again if this is how you treat people.. when we called to complain a young woman said did you not see the signs about parking?? What signs ? We needed to get him inside and it was pissing it down with rain !! Needless to say it was empty!! Did your staff at any point in their break from doing not much at all advise any of us about anything do do with parking? No they did not !! What more signs need to be observed in a disabled bay other than the normal rules ? Which have been adhered to

This pub had always been a tourist trap, but it had also been a fondly loved local pub, and I have memories of it as a child and (drinking age) teen. I suppose I should be happy that in being bought by the burger king of the pub chain world that at least it stayed open but on popping in for a drink to round a day off - having come back to my hometown for a break, I was so sorely disappointed. I guess it’s not their fault that my bubble was burst, and that I had been expecting the cosy pub with its lovely old vibe that I remembered. However, I still think that setting that aside it was still a god-awful and tacky experience. A found a soulless, corporate chain food establishment better suited to being bolted onto the side of a premier inn. I ordered my drink and sat at a sticky table with cheap brightly coloured menus whilst tacky pop songs blared unrelentingly. I went outside regretting my purchase but determined not to waste it. The music continued and thank goodness it was blustery night as it was crammed with as many tables as possible and a cash-cow fish n chip shack that was, that evening, closed. I see from other reviews that the food is bally awful. How can you get it wrong? It’s the same stuff sold in hundreds (?) of other Greene Kings. You just gotta warm it up, right? Maybe it’s because in selling this mass-produced generic rubbish you rob your kitchen staff of ever gaining or expressing any skill, which I assume helps keep their pay low. As for the staff – Greene King sell port at - I believe it was over- £6 for 50ml. The lad behind the counter, (bless him ‘cos he’d clearly never sold the stuff before and was just doing his job), anticipated I was going to complain when I went back to the bar. I dropped it, he’s a cog in a corporate machine. When I originally wrote my 1st grumpy grumble about this place, management tried to put me in my place by citing law. As if I have never ordered a glass (yes a glass not a blinking £6 shot) of port before in my life. You are right management you DO sell port in 50ml in the UK… but also 70ml and multiples thereof. Whatever you want to clap back with, it’s a rip off and its probably not in your hands but rather the chains anyway. Not that management clearly care for poor reviews, they are incredibly snide here on tripadvisor as you can see for yourself. They don’t need to care for poor reviews, they tourists and day-trippers will role on in. Maybe I am just a "proper pub" snob, but this place dresses itself up as something more than it delivers... Your website has some gall to say your proud of your heritage. You ripped it all out of the place and replaced it with apps to order food and computer screens to register to park! Pillar of the community indeed! Some-one who’s job it is to spot money making opportunities simply found one in this former community hub once loved by locals and holiday makers alike. If I’d pay to holiday in Saltburn I’d be sore to find the exact same pub as in my hometown. Nah, I don't want to add fries with that.

With cold Broccoli .. it is a sad affair when it wasn’t a busy time and the food is presented like this!! .. If this is the standard of our traditional pubs for the future then Greene King really need to reassess their approach! .. it is a shame as the Ship has a lot to offer but I suppose the fact that the Ship it is a seasonal pub then why should they!??

Staff were lovely; friendly and very helpful indeed. Our food arrived quickly considering it was a very busy night, but sadly wasn't quite as good as we've had in other Greene King establishments. The pie didn't have a lot of filling, the three small broccoli florets didn't seem to be cooked, and the mash - while tasty - had a texture which suggested it might be instant. Everything was highly salted too. Having said that, it really was a busy evening which might account for some of this, and as we were made so welcome we would certainly give this cosy place a second chance should we be in the area again. Perfectly located for us and the pooches to relax after a run on the beach!

We have been staying in Saltburn for a week and have visited the Ship a few times during our stay. We can honestly say we have loved it! The food and drinks have been top notch, I can’t understand why people complain about the standard of the food, it’s a pub and that’s what you get, good honest pub food. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, a nice smile when you go to the bar goes a long way and every member of staff were smiling and, enjoying their job. We are going there today for Sunday lunch which we are looking forward to, I would definitely recommend a visit, good prices, brilliant atmosphere and a view to die for.

It looked better than it tasted tbh. Jo's pie had very hard pastry ,and the inside was piping hot and lacked taste. However, the gravy saved the day. My Burger was not exactly succulent verging on tough, but the bun ,salad, and chips were just about acceptable. Staff and surroundings very good. You have to enter car reg on a pad when you go in. Otherwise, a parking ticket will be issued. I suggest a good pub for drinks only due to proximity of the sea. We award the place 6/10.

A fantastic, friendly and, most importantly, dog-friendly pub. Lovely big patio area overlooking the sea is great when the weather is nice. The inside is great too as dog sleep are welcomed as much as humans. This is really important to us as we are hardly ever without the fur baby. The beer is always great, and service is too. The food we had, whilst standard ‘pub grub’ was hot, well cooked and served quickly. They even have a doggy menu where you can get chicken, burger, sausage, steak or ice cream for dogs! We had a great experience. Before I give details I simply must address the ratings I see of slow service at The Ship Inn. So even the most inexperienced travelers must surely realize that this place is quite popular. If you go on a warm and sunny day, especially on the weekends, you WILL have to wait a bit. Personally, as a person who has travelled extensively all of her life, sometimes being away from home 14-10 days per month, I would say to you that if you expect to go to a popular holiday destination and dine at a popular eatery, your expectations of immediate service are unrealistic and that your indignance at having to wait for your order when the place is uber-busy should have no place in your review. Why hold the restaurant responsible for your own poor planning? Now, that said, it IS fair game to rate the restaurant on how they prepare that food and its quality, and whether the staff handle the pressure of the busy restaurant with grace. It was a busy afternoon when my hubby and I arrived. We first went to the bar to get menus and a cold beer, then chose an outside table with a wonderful view of the sea and a cool breeze. We ordered at the bar and, yes, the order took about 20 minutes to come to us. But the food was delicious and hot, perfectly prepared, and generous in proportion. We had the Beef and Ale pie, the Chicken Curry, and the onion rings. The server was patient, attentive, and friendly, even though she was being pulled aside by other patrons whenever she came out to a table. Poor thing was not even flustered by the table with 5 kids...each time she came out, the mom was waving her hands to order up something extra each time. More coke, extra plate, another sauce, etc. And yet the waitress wasn't assigned to that table, but she never complained. We were impressed. So, yes, we would definitely come back again (and I hope we do).

We called in for the burgers and pints deal We ordered drinks and my partner had a Guinness which he said was not the best pint and not poured correctly. We ordered food, when it came chips were not crispy, limp onion rings, the burgers were very well done, sauce unknown on the burger very little salad and I got a lump of meat instead of BBQ burnt ends burger I requested, very disappointed, I appreciate it a deal so expectations were not hugely high, but it's a burger! We have eaten here previously and had some issues with our food, like sauce missing off the meal etc but we were still generous about our rating thinking it would be a 1 off, unfortunately not, add to this staff were helpful and polite but because it was a meal deal I could not use my blue light card and some stuff got disgruntled I asked because it was a promotion. All in all made the best of it but we won't be eating here again.

Been a few times to the ship since it was revamped and taken over by Greene King in 2023. However it seems now they have it up and running they are becoming greedy. Went for drinks as the Friday evening DJ was on and the place was virtually empty and now I know why - £15 for a glass of Merlot and a pint of Madri. Yes there are really nice views but you could go and sit up at the Spa Hotel for a better view where drinks are cheaper and food is tastier. I checked pricing on app against another local Green King establishment and they were a good £3+ more for my round. Will be the last time we visit which is a shame as could be busy all the time but reality is there are much nicer and realistically priced bars / restaurants in Saltburn where we have experienced real food and not bog standard dare I say ping ping food, we have eaten here previously. Take a look Greene King before you lose even more trade.

Lovely pub fresh fish and chips and a cold drink. Warm enough to sit outside ... make sure to give your car reg in at the bar so you don't get a parking ticket

Much of the same from a pub chain. Menu the same as any pub chain. No imagination. Post covid and price hikes are largely to blame, but plenty of exceptional places to eat close by.

Nice fish and chips although not the best. Best bitter shandy I've drank for a long time.

A lovely experience today despite being a chain pub it had a lovely community atmosphere we walked in on the quiz and it was well attended. The service was excellent and the food was as expected well cooked plain and tasty. This pub has cornered the pub food market in Saltburn.

Good food, friendly staff , decent prices for food, and a cracking view when sat outside. What more can you ask for? I'm definitely making this a stop on any visits to the area from now on.

Nice pub on the seafront at Saltburn on Sea. Standard Greene King, but that's not a bad thing. Good choice of beers. I liked the beer garden which overlooked the sea. I thought the fish and chip cabin was a nice touch. Only disappointment was the scampi which were tiny and some just seemed like coating, the fish and chips on the other hand were lovely. The chips in both were very good. Wouldn't stop me from revisiting though,

Expect to wait for 30 minutes for fish and chips from the hut in the beer garden and when they arrive the chips were well over cooked and tasteless. No order as to when you get your food despite them having a bleeper system. Total shambles

Attended the Grinch breakfast, was a lovely event for the children. We loved the special touch of Christmas cards with the gifts! The voyager is a lovely local pub with great entertainment and amazing staff! Perfect place to visit with children! Very accessible with many tables on one level! Can’t wait to visit over Christmas!

We stopped here with the dogs for lunch during a long walk. The new landlord of only a few weeks has already created a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Full marks for good value lunch (home made soup was delicious) , friendly staff and spotless “Ladies”!

This is an old established pub serving food. Busy on a Sunday and needed to book a table. Food was average, although plenty of it, although extra gravy was (I think) £1.50 for a small jug. Slightly let down by poor staff, with the exception of the lady with the plaster cast on her wrist. Generally too young and inexperienced. One didn't know the difference between a lager and an ale. And another was surly when asked why she had topped up a G & T full to the top of the glass with tonic, without first asking how much we required

Had a large family meal with about 28 inc small children. We were given a separate area which suited us fine. From start to finish the staff couldn't have been any more attentive and helpful. All starters, mains and dessert delivery ran very smoothly and we had no complaints about the food. A good selection of beers are on offer. We stayed over and the room and bed were very clean and comfortable.Would gladly stay again. Thanks to all staff involved in our evening and stay
