Rooms were ok but needed a little tlc (bathroom especially). Service was good although we did wait over an hour for dinner one night. Located in the middle of nowhere which was fine for us.

Food mediocre and didnt receive the full order, no table check and supervisor was not pleasant, wouldnt go back

Came for a meal last weekend. It was beautiful. Best pork I've had ever. Staff very attentive and polite. The place has changed dramatically from last time we visited. So light and airy, modern yet tastefully decorated. Will definitely be back.

Last night went to The Cross Keys for a very special birthday for a family member. All the team were excellent, especially Lucy. She was very cooperative and overall did a great job as a waitress. We all had a very nice time and the meals prepared by Dave were beautiful. We will definitely be returning very soon

Enjoyed a delightful meal and really appreciated the friendly welcome and hospitality being looked after by Lauren. Also compliments to the chef Sue?? for an excellent meal. We have driven past the Cross Keys countless times over many years on our visits to the Yorkshire coast and are delighted that we finally paid you a visit. We will definitely return in the near future. Thank you for capping off a wonderful day.

My husband and I came for dinner, we had garlic mushrooms and the fish and chips the things we were disappointed in was the large mushrooms seemed very slimy really need small mushrooms and the chips which were frozen chips you used to make the chips yourself and they were lovely. I think people are looking for home made food I could stay at home and eat conveniant food

This is a place I have stayed before, and I have a very experience. 👍 very comfortable, and the staff are friendly. I will be visiting again.

Came tonight with friends, (staying in Wyke lodges) opposite. Booked a table easily on the phone, turned up, shown to our table. Wonderful service by all, especially Evie. We all ordered different things from the menu. I ordered Duo of chicken, absolutely beautiful. Ate everything & ordered the chocolate fondant for dessert. Oh my days, delightful. Will definitely visit again. 4 very happy campers 😁 thank you.

Popped in for lunch with my sons today. First time I've been in years but will definitely be back! Lots of choice for lunch. Settled for a steak sandwich, which cooked just as I asked. Really great service from Emma, very helpful and welcoming

Came across this place completely by chance this evening, dropped in for dinner and found the most charming ‘pub’. Great food, cosy decor and lovely outside area. Best of all - really friendly and great service from a super team!! I’ll be back again really soon!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We stayed for 4 nights at the Cross Keys Hotel. The staff were really friendly & helpful and the hotel itself was lovely but we were disappointed with the room as water stains on the outside walls apparently due to a leak & the bathroom was in bad need of a revamp. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly but the manager Anthony quickly organised the repair. Must say thought Anthony & assistant manager were excellent regarding any problems. The food was good & selection also. Jim & Julie

Lovely food and friendly staff, although we ordered off a set menu and the system charged us at normal price, we did get a refund though.

Called in a few times for a coffee recently. Gorgeous coffee. The last time we came we had a light bite lunch cheese toasties. Not sure where the light bite bit was but they were lovely the best toasty ever. All the staff are really helpful and friendly but it was Emma who gave us all the info about the light bite lunches. So helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

Food was ok. They turned more people away than were actually dining..dont think they had enough staff in kitchen. I do think they have just reopend like...Paul our waiter was marvellous and probably one of the reason we will go back...

The Cross Keys (Upsall) is a great pub & hotel. Excellent service, drinks & food (Lunch), friendly & polite staff. Always a fabulous atmosphere, attentive staff, handy facilities, dog friendly, and beer garden to rest after eating and enjoy the countryside views.

Had Saturday lunch in the beer garden which the dog enjoyed as well. Steak and Ale Pie, the wife had a signature burger which were both enjoyable. Will return.

Won't be eating here again. Food very disappointing. Ordered a mixed grill which at £20 you would expect to be half decent. Not so! 1 sausage, 1 large piece of gammon, 1 tiny piece of steak and a piece of chicken breast that could have come from a budgie. Along with chips, half a tomato and a fried egg - definitely not worth the money. When I pointed out the size of the chicken to the waitress I was told 'that's the size they're coming in!'. In that case maybe change supplier?? And also the attitude. I was brought another piece of chicken albeit reluctantly. Hardly surprising the place was empty. With many excellent eateries around you need to up your game Cross Keys or you too will end up a drive through coffee shop.

The Cross Keys very kindly play host to the Guisborough Silent Book Club every Tuesday night. The management were very encouraging from the start and found the perfect spot for us to gather. The staff have been friendly every week, it is a lovely cosy place for us to meet and we enjoy every minute of it. Can't thank them enough for letting us spend our Tuesday evenings here.

The food was lovely and we had the best service from Emma who made sure everything was sorted for us! Will definetly recommend and come again.

Went here for lunch on Sunday 14th, on the recommendation of a local. He did not let us down :) Lovely atmosphere, excellent service. Best steak and ale pie I've had in a long time, and the apple tart was perfect.

We don't visit as often as we like due to commitments. We visited for lunch with a friend who hadn't visited. The food is always consistent and lovely. You are very reasonably priced and a warm welcome is always well received. We would like to complement the chef Gemma and front of house Tonya and and Emma. Be proud that you work above and beyond for Greene King, you deserve such recognition. Pam and Brian

! DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD HERE ! My 3 year old was caught running around by one of the staff, instead of coming to me THE PARENT and address that he was running about she took it upon herself to YELL at him “NO RUNNING IN THE RESTAURANT ”instead. My child has complex needs aswell so when he came back to the table he was crying and in shock. I do not think that that person who I now know is called STEPHANIE should be shouting at my child or any child for the matter. Completely appalling and I would advise people to NEVER GO HERE IF YOU HAVE YOUNGER CHILDREN !!!!!!! I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again, it’s the 2nd time it’s happened, it’s happened with my child and my friends child at Christmas.

Stayed here for a wedding, staff were excellent, very helpful & friendly even letting us check into our room 3 hours early which saved us so much hassle later on. Room was nice and spacious with everything we needed and very comfy beds. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the morning which was piping hot, also having access to the continental menu, fruit juices, etc. Special mention to Tonya for checking us in & looking after us at breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely pub great atmosphere staff fantastic! Drink snd food are great!!! that’s where the good stops😂, the tv is tiny for the size of the pub and not ideally placed(brick pillars in the way)Rooms basic with no plug sockets next to beds(it’s 2024 surely hotels know the requirement of charging outlets!!!) Shower was absolutely abysmal!!! Pressure couldn’t even project water away from the holder! Rooms on the roadside can be noisy being on the dual carriageway. There is double glazed and an extra window but still noisy.

Went for tea with hubby and sister in law as we are staying at campsite over the road. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Food was good. Would definitely go again. Took the pooch aswel in a separate little space. Water bowls and water for dogs. Very good

A long time since we'd been in the " keys" it was always a popular pub/restaurant so it was a shock to see it almost empty. The beers were excellent, the menu had been decimated from what they once were which is actually a good thing...far too many, on more than one occasion I ordered something which they didn't have. The meals were tasty and there was a decent amount. However on picking up the tab it became apparent not just this place but a lot of others that the prices have rocketed, which may have been the reason it was empty. I appreciate the cost of living explosion but being in the middle of nowhere the place needs to attract the punters in whether that's via drink or food. Just revisited after receiving an email for a BOGOF deal from the owners. It was excellent, unfortunately they have changed the beer supplier, still nice but not as good. This is exactly what was , I hope the initiative worked for them. Will be going back for sure!!

I booked for Fathers day and the menu looked nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The meal was very disappointing A slice & 1/2 of beef that was chewy, a Yorkshire pudding that was beyond stale, tasteless gravy, 4 pale roast potatoes a wet handful of cabbage and a sliced carrot. A square cold stuffing. It was £24!! No mash!! The meal sadly did not reach the description Description- Sunday roasts All our meat roasts are served with garlic & rosemary duck fat roast potatoes, herb-roasted carrots, seasonal greens, a Yorkshire pudding, sausage meat stuffing and gravy The trifle was not very nice, custard was hard and the cream was weird. Jelly bottom that was it. I’m don’t normally complain but £56 for 2 dinners, dessert and 2 lagers was too expensive for the meal I received I paid that in Leeds last week and the Sunday dinner was outstanding!! I didn’t say anything to the staff as my Dad was with me on his Fathers Day. I won’t be booking in for a Sunday dinner anytime soon

Visited for family birthday. We were looked after by Luke who couldn't have been anymore helpful. All our requests were met by Luke in a friendly and professional manner. The only criticism would be the garlic bread which used to be lovely, now different type and not nice at all. However we all enjoyed the meals and to have a lovely server in Luke made all the difference. He is a credit to the place. Thank you.

My friends and I have been meeting up at The Cross Keys for coffee every Monday for the last couple of years now, so as you might guess, it has become our preferred place. It’s relaxed, comfortable and has excellent staff and is well managed.

Lovely large dinning room good atmosphere clean tidy and great food the mixed grill is amazing and great value for money, staff very polite friendly and helpful will definitely return thanks clive A+++++++

Not been for food here for a long time. Called in for evening meal. Pleasantly surprised. Food was very nice. Decent selection of alternative specials on the day. We had a thyme chicken dish off the specials and a steak and ale pie followed by sundaes 🍨. As a bonus staff were very friendly and attentive! Will definitely be returning.

Didn't stay here but had a Sunday dinner with my partner. I had the beef sirloin roast. It was very disappointing, not even 2 full slices of beef, 1 Yorkshire pudding, a cube of stuffing, small bit of veg and 4 frozen roast potatoes. When paying £16 for a Sunday roast, you would expect it all to be fresh. Theres so many places that do a better Sunday roast cheaper than here. Don't waste your money here, go elsewhere. Definitely won't be back and wouldn't recommend to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at The Cross Keys for one night using a virgin experience voucher. After reading some of the past reviews we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Yes there are some repair/maintenance works needed in the rooms but they were clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed the stay. The meal in the pub in the evening was spot on, really good food and great service. We had a decent night’s sleep and it was very quiet. We felt this hotel was good value and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Reception area was clean. Slow to respond to the bell push. Room was clean and warm. Beds comfy. Loved the coffee bags. Shame about the mould on the bathroom ceiling and one small patch on the bedroom ceiling.

Lauren was amazing! From the minute we entered, nothing was too much trouble for her. She was so kind, welcoming and attentive! Good food, atmosphere and service.

Lovely tasty hot food , had a lovely lunch . Restaurant was spotless and so were the toilets. Staff were attentive and even the manager popped over for a friendly natter.

Excellent as always, we will definetly be back again soon. The food is always delicious and the staff are superb, can't fault it.

We’ve eaten here many times over the years during the week and have enjoyed quality food at a reasonable price with good service. Sunday’s experience was shocking. Two small pieces of gristly beef. Leathery Yorkshire pudding. Overcooked, undersized portion of limp mixed vegetables. Four bland small roast potatoes. All served cold. At a cost of £15.79.

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the Cross Keys and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend :)

Today we were celebrating our granddaughter’s birthday. The food that was brought out was cold and overdone, this was immediately sent back & a couple of minutes later a hot version came which consisted of overcooked broccoli, overcooked carrots & something that was supposed to be roast potatoes which had no potato inside and looked as though they had been deep fried m. I can only describe this meal as possibly one of the worst I have ever tasted, which I actually left most of it, not one of the staff came and asked if everything was ok ( a party of 14 ) When paying the bill I was asked if I would like to leave a tip “ no I wouldn’t “ the service was shocking & it wasn’t as if they were busy. Certainly one to avoid in the future

Very reluctant to leave this bad review as I always feel awful however, its only fare that people get a true reflection of the rooms before they hand over their hard earned money. We have been to the Cross Keys for food before, food was OK 7/10 and the interior of the pub itself is beautiful. If you're wanting somewhere to call for a bite to eat and a drink whilst out walking passing etc then I would recommend. We booked a room as we were going to go for a hike the following morning, we payed £100 for one night without breakfast. Upon arrival we asked for help with the WiFi to be told by reception lady " we dont deal with technical stuff" As soon as I walked into the room I hated it! There was condensation drips all down the paintwork, mould on the ceiling in the room and even worse in the bathroom, bath dirty with mold on the taps and plug, bathroom cupboard dropping to bits, bedding dirty and the whole room and en suite needs a thorough deep clean. The cleaners definitely need to up their game. We left the room and asked at reception for a refund, it was a different woman at reception this time and she was lovely, couldn't have apologised more. She talked us through the refund process as we booked on booking. I do feel for the staff as its the chain who should be investing more and reducing prices until they do! £100 is a joke to ask for those rooms.

In need of updating. Plaster and paint was coming off the wall, the bathroom cupboards were a peeling mess, and the bath had lots of black mould around it. Staff all seemed like they just didn't wanna be there, and we were an inconvenience. Won't be back in a hurry.

Called in for Sunday dinner we had 3 different meals all were bad , roast potatoes had obviously been left out they were hard with no potatoe in them , broccoli soggy we bought cauliflower cheese which had no cheese . Vegetarian meal was awful we couldn’t complain as no one came back to the table to ask - we left and paid it was expensive and we’d never go back shame it used to be good

The hotel and staff were lovely. Room had been fairly recently redecorated but the bathroom was scruffy, a chip out of the enamel on the bath and it was very old and narrow. Mould on the ceiling and grouting. This is the only thing. Tea and coffee facilities were great and of good quality, they have a little milk churn which you can get filed with fresh milk at the reception which is a nice touch. We only had breakfast here which was cooked to order and great value considering we only paid £11 extra each for 2 nights. There was also a continental offering in addition. Our room was at the back of the hotel and very quiet at night. There is a very busy road at the front and if you like a lie in you may not get one if you have a room on the front. Beds very comfortable. Beautiful view of Roseberry Topping from the front and the Easton hills at the back. If you went in the Sumner there is a lovely area at the back with fairy lights which would be nice to sit al fresco.

I couldn’t rate the rooms as I never stayed over but the food here was lovely, I got the signature burger and my partner got the steak and ale pie. I didn’t expect them to be so big. They were such a high quality as well, I would recommend for anyone who is looking for a place to have a date night

Stayed 2 nights for short break. Bedroom a little tired, especially bathroom. Nowhere to hang anything. Cleanliness: Bedding very good. Chair in bedroom needs a good clean as full of dust as was the join between the bed base. Carpet needs cleaning. Breakfast: Full English average. Sausage had never seen Cumberland! I had an evening meal that was supposed to be on on a bed of roast potatoes! These were new potatoes that were not roasted. I couldn't get my knife to cut the broccoli as is wasn't cooked, never mind Al dente. Having finished complaining, our stay was OK and staff pleasant. Wouldn't stop again

Used to really enjoy a Sunday roast here however it seems to have gone downhill lately. Grandad had to send his rib of beef back as it was just full of fat whereas mine was fine; waitress returned with another full of connecting tissue and gristle. Surely the kitchen should check what they are sending out. Vegetable portion sizes seem to have reduced a lot also. Had four pieces of carrot and a couple of pieces of parsnip amongst a sea of garden peas. Appreciate the two dinners not being charged for but we won't be returning unfortunately as there are superior Sunday roasts locally.

Food was delicious. Service was atrocious, had to ask for table to be cleared and to order more drinks. It took 3 hours for 3 courses. Starters took an hour.

The staff, Steph, Sharon and Lee made our welcome perfect x We weren't eating and sat in the bar area, thinking the open fire was in the eating area, but we very quickly were informed that the fire eas in the bar area, even with cutlery on tablet was still the bar. Would recommend this loverly pub to everyone x

Absolutely terrible Sunday roast, all frozen even the roasties, soggy parsnips, the meat was absolutely shocking full of fat, cauliflower cheese full of water with sprinkle of cheese, polystyrene Yorkshire puddings, gravy was so watery with no taste what’s so ever, for the price of the meal they should be ashamed!!! Only one plus side good customer service avoid for Sunday lunch!!!

Nice, clean, cozy place - lovely decor massive inside, will be lovely in the summer with the outside seating areas. Masses of parking spaces. Reasonably priced and a fair choice on the menus. We had chicken BLT ciabatta which mum said was really tasty however, my choice of food, the hand-battered halloumi chiabatta, wasn't up to much and barely tasted of anything barring the batter it had been fried in which was disappointing because when it arrived it looked really appetising....should have gone with the scampi as I'd originally planned but changed my mind at the last minute because I love halloumi 😀 hindsight is a wonderful thing but hey ho you live and learn.

We came to the cross keys for a family meal. Very friendly staff. We were served by the lovely Evie, who was very friendly, professional. Evie was very helpful, and patient with the group.

Rooms are spacious and clean. Bathrooms need an upgrade and are very tired which could be easily done. Breakfast excellent, staff friendly.

Meal for 2. I had the rump steak which came with a very small portion of frozen chips and the tiniest portion of salad I have ever seen no mushrooms no onion rings. My partner had the gammon and again very small portion of chips and what looked like half a gammon steak. We often go out for meals and try many average priced restaurants. Unfortunately this was the dearest and the smallest portion. I can never fit in a dessert but had to order one as I didn't feel full. My partner was still quite hungry when we left which is a first after going for a meal we usually are stuffed. Not value for money Unfortunately my first time and last.

Whilst the venue was nice and the staff pleasant the food was dreadful my wifes fish was well overcooked and completely dry inside and she could not eat it.My steak and ale pie was rock hard and the steak was fatty and inedible I would class the food as the worst I've had in the area

Booked for valentine's night arrived at the venue checked in with the young waitress taken to our table only to find someone already sitting ordering there food confused the young waitress went to check the seating plan sure enough they had been seated at the wrong table we ended up on a table for six not that romantic. Waited 15 minutes for the waitress to return to take our drinks order by this point we had already decided on our food waited for the drinks to arrive another 10mins starter arrived 35mins later lukewarm At no point did there look like anyone was supervising the floor making sure everyone was being looked after hence the mix up of tables no check back no interaction bar staff grumpy food was mediocre. I asked to speak to the manager apparently he was busy on the phone. It's a shame we have been coming to this place since we where in our 20s now in our young 70s and have seen a lot of changes not for the better. This not the first time we have been disappointed with the place but it certainly will be the last 🙁🙁

Had such a lovely lunch here, our waitress Sharon was really friendly and recommended the seafood grill, this didn't disappoint it was beautiful, in fact the starter and pudding was lovely too...We will definitely be coming back a great place a real find...and Sharon you are an asset.

Decided to meet family and looked forward to a decent meal at a decent price. Yes it was rubbish. Six meal ordered and 5 sent back and yes you have guessed it, ALL COLD vegetables. Meals were taken away and if I was closer to the kitchen I would probably have heard the microwaves pinging away. Call yourself a restaurant. poor quality meat and produce, you are in the country, no excuse for frozen veg. The usual excuses from the management about kitchen issues, not acceptable. Do Chef and Brewer read these reviews or leave it to poor management to paper over the cracks. IT WAS NOT BUSY so no excuse. Lucky the microwaves were working. ***Compliments to the staff who seem to be the glue keeping the restaurant going and the management in a job***

Visited at around 6:30pm and ordered sirloin beef Sunday roast…. Beef overcooked and tough…roast potatoes frozen, small, dry and hard, Yorkshire dry and crispy….garden peas and carrots. Wish I had taken a picture to show how bad it was… I never complain but it was so bad I did let the waitress know when she asked if everything was ok(not her fault and she said she would pass on to the kitchen) . Only thing I ate was the carrots which were nice, everything else too awful to eat

Lovely decorated bar and lounge area. No heating on very cold. Food was minimal very disappointed with the portion sizes and one went back as cold. Such a shame as we had travelled over to see friends!
