I was very much looking forward to my meal at the Ship Inn, Tresaith. I feel it was overpriced and unfortunately not really that nice. The Katsu chicken starter is ridiculously small. I appreciate it’s a starter but 3 tiny pieces of chicken, a piece of lettuce and some spots of sauce on the plate felt somewhat underwhelming when it arrived. I’m surprised they had the courage to allow it to leave the kitchen. Is there no quality check before items leave the kitchen? For £5 I just felt a bit short changed. Subsequently ordered a steak for my main meal, which at £18.50 is not particularly cheap. Again when it arrived I couldn’t help but feel very disappointed with only a few chips on the plate. On a positive note, the chips were very nice indeed, but sadly there weren’t many of them to enjoy. The meal was therefore immediately disappointing and let down by something which could have been easily remedied. Unfortunately the dish just had no real wow factor. Additionally there were not many peas on the plate. It feels like the chef is trying to be posh and go ‘al a carte’ by giving tiny portions, it just seems like the the identify of the menu/restaurant is quite confused. There was also a thick rind of fat running though the steak. I ordered pepper sauce with my meal and a small amount was drizzled over the steak. I paid for this item and felt like I didn’t really receive it. Would it be that difficult to just serve the sauce separately to allow the customer to dip/pour over their meal as required? Sadly it felt like ration week at the restaurant. I was still very hungry when I finished my meal which is disappointing after spending the best part of £27. Again I just felt quite short changed. I don’t want huge portions and I’m not a big eater or a greedy person, but there simply was not enough food on the plate in my opinion. I felt robbed. The staff are very nice people and clearly work very hard- I overheard a kind gentleman (with a beard and glasses) serving another family on a table next to me, I felt a bit sorry for him having to explain several times that many of the items on the menu they had requested were unavailable. The family seemed to be running out of options of what they wanted to order from the menu. It was just all a bit uncomfortable and I wasn’t even sat at that table! Must be quite soul destroying for him having to take the brunt of customer dissatisfaction when many of the problems seem to lie behind the scenes and with management. I’m sure the staff do their very best and it was very busy on a hot day but this shouldn’t affect the quality of food. Something is going very wrong here. I feel a bit more attention to detail is needed which could make it a much better dining experience. If much of the menu is unavailable they shouldn’t really be open. It was sadly quite a disappointing dining experience. I really was hoping it was going to be better than it was. One small disabled toilet with people queuing through the restaurant is not ideal although I appreciate not much can be done about this and it must be quite hard to mange. Seems quite unusual to have only one small disabled toilet at the hotel given how busy it gets. If I had arrived in a wheelchair and seen the size of the queue I wouldn’t have been very happy. Why are able bodied people using the disabled toilet anyway? The set up seems a bit strange. If they’re trying be an up market place and charge the prices they do then the food quality needs to reflect this, which generally speaking it did not (apart from the few nice chips!). Kind and hard working sadly staff let down by portion sizes and a menu which sounds much better on paper than in reality. Overall just quite disappointing, underwhelming and overpriced which is not justified in the slightest.

Friendly and welcoming, relatively good choice of food, kids menu was good - not just nuggets! The chicken burgers were actual chicken breasts not breadcrumbs in site, I ended up eating my daughters as she wanted the nachos!

perfect location in every way but the lack of imagination and the feeling that you are just another number ruins it for me every time, I can put up with premium prices but really £2.50 for 12 chips is a step too far. They have no imagination when it comes to the menu and if it isn't supplied by Castell Howell then you are out of luck. My advice is buy a beer, ignore the chaos that is happening all around and enjoy the views.

Spent day on beach at Tresaith which is fabulous so called for lunch at the ship. Have been before on last couple of holidays in the area. Was steadily busy but most were drinking/coffee as was late afternoon so couldn't understand why there was such a long wait for food. Had some moroccan lamb patties to start and was a little disappointed. Whitebait was good. veg risotto was lovely for first couple of tastes then became far too stodgy and was not finished. Superfood salad was really nice although none of the raspberry dressing was tasted. A lunchtime special of 2 courses for £10 tempted us to eat but don't think we'll bother again. Great views to have a coffee or beer from though . Shame service and food does the compete with scenery.

Booked the previous day for a Bank Holiday Sunday lunch, for a family group of 7. We were politely told that our choices were 12:00 or 3:00, which is understandable on a long weekend. We forgot to mention that we had dogs, so we couldn't sit in the main dining area. We were helpfully relocated to outdoor seating under a canopy roof. Although at the start of the meal it was warm, the weather turned cooler, and the waitress turned on electric patio heaters for us -- which did the trick.Sunday roast was on the menu, but none of us chose that - I forget the full order, but a variety of seafoods, steak and burger were included. Everyone was pleased with their food. In particular, the batter on the fish & chips was praised.Desserts were also good, including a sharing dessert intended for two, but shared between three.Staff were very friendly and helpful. Beer was good. Sea view was spectacular. We were asked to fill in feedback forms at the end -- I've seen some negative reviews here on Tripadvisor, and it appears they want to improve. However on our visit I didn't see any particular need for improvement.Oh, one tiny niggle: some of the cutlery could have been cleaner. I just used a different fork.

Called in to have lunch on bank holiday Monday. Ordered 2 pints of orange juice and lemonade at the bar which was the most expensive round of soft drinks for 2 people I've ever had! £9.20!! The barman charged me for 2 pints of lemonade and 2 orange juices, but he only added a dash of lemonade to the drink! They did say there was an hour-hour and a half wait on food but we decided to order anyway. We sat outside and enjoyed the stunning view. There were 4 of us and one meal came 40 minutes before the starters and the other meals. Tables were not cleared until you asked them to. This pub has the potential of being the best in west wales, but they're not quite there yet!

After being told there was a wait for an hour and half, we decided to stay anyway and ordered our food... we encountered several issues:- One of our orders was missing, and to save another hours wait opted for a pate starter instead. - Cheese Platter arrived with 4 measly pieces of cheese, which is extremely overpriced so sent it back - The blonde haired young waitress was extremely rude, passive aggressive, and served us with the attitude of a stroppy teenager. Upon bringing us our deserts she said ''Have you not got cutlery, *SIGH* Its in side, I suppose ill have to get it for you - but its inside so they should have told you'' we over heard her saying this to many others. Her lack of customer service is astonishing considering she works in hospitality. - No one came to clear our tables in between courses so we had to ask for it to be cleared. - Food was adequate, although seemed like frozen food just heated. Overpriced. A lovely view, I would only return for the wonderful real ale, and the view.

We visited twice in a week during our recent annual visit to Tresaith. The first visit on Sunday evening was near perfect. Just me and my wife. We asked to move to a quieter table than the one allocated to us, and this was done without any question. The food was great, and service was timely and friendly. We were so impressed that we booked a table for the following Saturday, for 5 of us this time. We asked the waiter for a particular table, and he confirmed this while we were there. We arrived on Saturday and sat at the table which we had booked. The waiter told us that this was not our table. We told him it was the table we specifically booked, so this was the table we wanted to sit at. He went to ask the Manager who said (in my hearing) words to the effect that even though we'd asked for the table we couldn't have it.Ordinarily, I would have complained there and then, but not wanting to create a fuss with my guests present, we moved to a table next to the service counter which, initially, seemed fine. Both the waiter who had shown us in, and the one who had accepted our booking were profusely apologetic about us not having the table we specifically requested. The Manager neither explained nor apologised herself. The most galling aspect of this was that the table we had specifically requested was not used by anyone for the rest of the evening. An elderly couple arrived at one point, were shown to the table and moved to another table almost immediately. We all enjoyed the meal, and the service was excellent from all the waiting staff, but the experience was marred by the inexplicable behaviour of the manager. The hard bench that two of our party had to endure didn't help either (they didn't mention this to me until the end of the meal). After years of struggling, the Ship seems nearly there - the food is good (fish served on a bread board is just wrong though), and service from the waiting staff was efficient and polite. I have a feeling that if the manager had not been on duty, we would have been given the table we specifically requested because it seemed to me that the waiting staff had a better idea of the golden rule of hospitality - give your customers everything in your power to give.Regardless of table allocations, and whether or not the rules of the house 'allow' customers to book specific tables, any good manager would honour a customer's booking, especially since the table in question lay empty for the entire evening. The title of this review would have been 'Best experience at the Ship yet' were it not for the manager's prioritisation of admin over customer service.

Did the walk from Aberporth to Tresaith along the coastal path with the intention of having Sunday lunch at The Ship. Have read previous reviews, some of which not glowing, but always speak as I find. The girl that took our order was polite and efficient. The barman sorted me out a well kept pint of Reverend James real ale and made time to tell me about that and the other beers available. We sat outside and our food arrived quickly. I had a roast beef and my wife had a roast pork dinner. They were not the cheapest roast dinners we have ever had but the quality was excellent so it represented good value for money. Polite good service, excellent food and real ale and a beautiful location. Would recommend to anyone.

Table for 7 on a fairly busy night. Staff/Manager demonstrated no knowledge whatsoever of food allergy legislation and joked that the 'ham and egg' would 'probably' be out for a child allergic to eggs! They also made some comments about gluten! That was the best they could suggest. They had no idea of the ingredients that went into their dishes and were not willing to serve a child portion of grilled chicken with chips when they did not know what was in their batter, sausages, burger and other kids menu items. How a restaurant does not know what is in the food they serve is beyond me. To say they are a BRAINS managed premises is no excuse for ignorance. They were happy to take our £100 though and then make us wait 90 minutes for terrible food.Avoid this place like the plague if you don't like poor service or you want to eat something with no idea of what is in it.Only positives are the location which is stunning.

This is a great location once you get there. Off the beaten track to say the least, down narrow lane with few places to park but worth the trek.We went on a busy August Saturday - the sun and the surfers were out so took some effort and patience to park, though luckily virtually outside the pub. Sat outside on the terrace with great views of beach and sea just below.Enjoyed a drink but disappointed they couldn't serve food - even sandwiches - at 2.30pm because they were "waiting for a delivery". We must have been a few minutes too late as we saw moules, salmon and pies arrive at other tables while we drank (rather pricey) drinks. Perhaps you pay a bit for this view.Sure enough the delivery truck arrived soon after - not sure how he negotiated the narrow road and we didn't wait to see him try and reverse out. Instead we went down to the beach and investigated the waffle-cone ice creams and prepared-to-order chips.

We waited for 1 hour for our food to arrive (mainly just sandwiches) without any apologies or warnings from the staff. But the view was beautiful. The food was well below average. The soggiest, greasiest piece of fish I've ever seen. Dry, chewy sandwiches with limp, ageing bits of greenery hanging out. A few chips on the side. But we had a good seat by the window with a lovely view of the sea. Dirty plates were left on our table for a long time, even though various staff passed by, even stopping to talk to us. But the view was very nice. When I enquired as to how long our food might take, I was met with a confused, incredulous look. The whole experience was sad because this place could be so special. They clearly have their customers over a barrel as there are no other options around.

We visited here last week on our last night in the area. We were seated, enjoyed some drinks and admired the lovely views. All fine. Polite waiter then took our order for some main courses. We asked for a couple of things to be substituted. Nothing major, just a few mushrooms and some peas to be swapped for something else just as simple. We were told this was fine (as it is in most other restaurants I've been to?).Food arrived and nothing had been substituted. We asked why this hadn't been done and were told something ridiculous about 'portion control', which made us all laugh. Fair enough if they chose to follow such silly rules, but at least come and inform your customers that you are actually unable to make any changes to a dish, instead of just plonking it in front of them with everything they didn't ask for. I feel sorry for anyone visiting here who has any special dietary requirements! Good luck! Young waitress was lovely. However, the older dark haired waitress was just rude, over dramatic and abrupt about the situation. It was sort of comical but it's just rather unprofessional to behave that way towards customers. The food we did get was nice, but very overpriced for what it was. Very small portion on one dish, and not exactly as described on the menu. Pepper sauce on other dish was bland.Overall, not an amazing evening but I suppose it's not worst experience we've ever had. Just ok.

We dined here early August and the restaurant was quite busy but not overcrowded. The starters were fine and my wife's main was good. The problems started with my main course. For whatever reason i just couldn't eat it and disliked the taste. I asked our waitress was there anything that they could do for me. She took the plate away and came back some 3 minutes later, plonked the dish back in front of me and said there was nothing they could do. Nobody else had complained. The dish was now totally inedible as it was cold. I half expected the manageress to come over and explain but she didn't.The waitress came to clear and i asked who she showed the dish to earlier. I asked if the chef would be happy that a customer was sat with food he couldn't eat. Why wasn't an alternative offered. Sh went to speak to the manageress again. Still she didn't come to me. When i went to pay,i explained to the lady on the till the problem i had. She went into the kitchen to see what she could do, and yet still no sign of the manageress. In fact she went out of her way not to be seen and not to get involved. She was quite happy to let a young inexperienced waitress deal with me rather than sort the matter out herself. How cowardly! How poor! If I was the owner of this establishment and heard what my manager was not doing when she should I would only take one course of actionI should have been offered an alternative and I would have happily paid. What a shame for the sake of £10 or so.....

We went in during the afternoon to book for Sunday evening. We specifically asked if roast dinner was served in the evening and were assured it was served all day and evening on Sundays. We wanted to book for 7pm but were told we could only book for 6pm or 8pm. We chose 6pm. When we arrived we were told Sunday roast had finished - it stopped at 6pm! It was now 6.05pm! We decided against going elsewhere and chose from the menu and asked if we could at least have the Sunday veg with our meal instead of the green beans advertised.mwe were to,d there could be no deviation from the advertised menu and we could pay extra for the Sunday roast veg - seemed v unfair as we had been assured that roast would be on the menu. We had to wait nearly an hour for our meal and the service was unhelpful and inflexible. Also lots of tables were empty and we could have come in at 7pm as we had requested. Nice views though!

We visited this restaurant twice on the space of two days and the food was great each time. First time I had salmon with a lemon and herb gremolata, then a fillet steak which was cooked beautifully. I also tried the morrocan lamb cakes for starters and the field mushrooms. The service was good both times, but the first time they forgot to bring my daughters ketchup for her chips, perhaps because they were busy. The views are beautiful here of the beach and both times we sat in the conservatory overlooking the sea. I'd definitely go back. Be careful if booking not to get this mixed up with the Ship at Aberporth, five minutes away.

I have been coming to the Ship for over a decade. I won't rehearse the 'it was great once, but got worse etc etc'. But suffice to say my last dinner experience was dire. See the review. So not wanting to risk dinner again we came for lunch instead because we are loyal to local businesses.Let me say straight from the outset. The staff were welcoming and very interested in their job and visitors. I ordered a beer and the bar staff were excellent too. This was a significant improvement and fair play someone has sorted out staff training and morale. We had crab sandwiches for lunch - I have to say that every time we have had crab at the Ship it has always been excellent. And this was no different. I think next time we will try lunch again. But herein lies a problem. I don''t think I am ready to risk dinner yet.

Visited Tresaith earlier today for coffee as I'd heard friends had stopped over for drinks in the past and really enjoyed themselves. My partner went up to order and said that 4 members of staff had been standing around and only one smiled and acknowledged him. Our coffees arrived not much later however they do overfill the cups so a lot of mine had spilt over onto the saucer and the tray. The view is stunning and today was glorious, but I'm afraid that the coffee I drank wasn't a mocha :/ The coffee itself was quite bitter. People then arrived for lunch and ordered then seated themselves outside, but we were sat at the entrance of the pub and so whenever the waiter as bringing food out, he proceeded to yell out the table's number. Few looked up or noticed him but I didn't think it was necessary to stand behind us and yell it. True, food needs to stay hot and the quicker it reaches the customer the better, but the outside area wasn't full and it would have taken a fraction of a second to peak around for the number on the spoon instead of yelling behind us. It seems that the staff are a consistent issue after reading other reviews, but I can't comment on the food as I didn't have it. The managers should take notice however as I feel that with some training and consideration for customers, the reviews will become more and more positive.

Think Masterchef, you may want to pop some toast under the grill in your holiday home later. The service is friendly but on the slow side.A good range of beers and has followed suit with many pubs these days, selling Peroni as their premium lager, at £4.75 a pint it's over priced and over hyped.Despite these negatives I have still given 4 stars, as we had many happy days at the pub and if it wasn't there would have had to walked over a mile to Aberporth to the next pub.

I have been to the Ship many times over the years, seen many changes in staff.Last night started well, friendly staff, starters arrived quickly. There was a problem with one starter which had a hair baked into the cheese (restaurant busy so discreetly told the waitress when she collected the plates rather than making a fuss in a busy room). She was very apologetic and said that she would inform her manager. The same waitress was apologetic when she came back to carry on clearing the starters away.Main courses very nice. First couple of plates were cleared away - and then the evening went downhill. After about 20 minutes one of our party went up to the bar and asked if anyone was going to collect the other plates and take our dessert order. Apparently both members of staff thought the other was dealing with our table - this despite the fact that the conservatory where we were sitting was by then empty apart from our table and one other, and the staff were laying out the breakfast settings on the other tables. We waited for our desserts, we saw the chef leave, about 10 minutes later (yes we were timing it by then!) the food turned up. The people at the other table left meaning we were the only table of diners (there were still people in the pub)The waitress then turned up with the bill - she was stopped by one of the members of the party who said we wanted tea and coffee... she said she did not think it was possible. She went away then came back to say the machine had been turned off and cleaned so we could not have hot drinks! So - with a table of 6, who had already had a problem with a starter, had had to chase for the pudding menu, had had to wait for those to turn up there was no thought of even coming over to ask if we would want tea or coffee to finish the meal before the machine was switched off and cleaned??On going to pay my part of the bill as I went through the items I was paying for I said about the starter and was told I was not being charged for it - no apology for it happening at all, in fact the only person who did apologise was the waitress. Sorry - I have had some lovely meals at the Ship but will not be returning any time soon.

We have just eaten here as a group of 6. Being local this is one of a variety of restaurants we visit periodically as a group, we were impressed with the menu and the range of food available from previous visits. We arrived to a much busier establishment than previous visits and we're attended to relatively quickly. The food was lovely and cooked to perfection apart from one group members stater which contained a long black hair cooked within it, after alerting the waitress a variety of excuses were given including too short and too long hair to be a staff member! However the starter was deducted from the bill.Service here remains a little haphazard, no one came to check during the main course that all was well, and we had to ask for the waitress to come and clear our plates, when she came first time one person had not quite finished. There was then a delay in service between the main course and dessert, in the end a person from the group went and got menus, this didn't cause us an issue until we were informed on trying to order coffee at the end of our meal that the coffee machine was turned off and had been cleaned... Very disappointing as there were still people in the restaurant, it was only 10pm and the delay was in the restaurants service not the fault of our group. All in all Bar the additional hair, the food was lovely but sadly the service still needs much work and no tea or coffee to finish a meal for us is a big no no, such a shame as it leaves a bitter taste in what would have been a 5 star rating... These things are far reaching as I personally own a tourist business and will err on the side of caution in my recommendation.

We arrived on a busy early evening and thought ourselves lucky to get the only table left that could accommodate us and our 2 dogs. We had ordered and already finished our starters when we were asked to move because we had dogs with us despite informing staff of this before being seated. They had been sitting quietly behind the table until this time. Entirely inappropriate to disturb someone's meal in this way, we did however agree to move. After main courses we were given the desserts menu but after waiting 15minutes without our order being taken we decided to leave. The place was less busy by this time and the bar staff showed no interest in tending to their customers. The food was fairly indifferent too. The chicken ham and leek pie was watery and although the steak was good the béarnaise sauce with it was a tasteless gloop.

Visited one evening with our dog and sat outside, a lovely evening with great views of the bay and beach. Pleasant staff and good service. Our food was very good and reasonably priced. The pub is nicely decorated with plenty of seating both inside and out. Due to its location I would imagine it could get very busy and there is limited parking as its on a steep hill. Car park in the village up the hill and a 5 minute walk down some steps so easy to get to. Worth a visit.

We visited whilst on holiday for a few days...my husband ordered his steak and was pleased with it..I ordered pork loin and found it to be pink...I'm fully aware this is not incorrect but if a steak order is asked how do you want it cooking then a pork order should also be asked...I don't like pink pork...perhaps put it on the menu..pinkish...also don't send one person to address the compliant and another with the bill so you have to repeat yourself....there are loads of off the beaten track restaurants that can serve food above and beyond your standard without the manager purchasing her bottom on the next table while I pointed to out pink pork and cold in the middle is not what I ordered...

Having informed The Ship Inn that we were vegan days in advance we found that the menu offered only the option of superfood salad or vegetable risotto.a little bit like Hobson's choice but I chose the risotto.the waitress informed me that the risotto was not vegan. Which would be fair if they had not known vegans would be eating there, but they were aware of this and could have prepared for it. So I had the salad (as a main), I wanted something more substantial but gave it a whirl as I had no other choice. After an amount of time during which a fresh risotto of vegan variety could have been made passed, my salad was served. Two orders of drinks had been served during this time, from the severely limited range of beers I wondered if this was an anti vegan and tasty beer establishment. But back to the superfood salad, it tasted nice to be fair, but was unsubstantial and left me feeling hungry, the superfood for those who don't know was the blueberry and spinach as indicated in the picture (and Wikipedia). conversely to Popeyes belief the spinach did not leave me all powerful and the blueberry superfood did not make me into superman. A plate of chips (preferably on a plate not a mini bucket) would not have left me feeling weak and wondering if I had strength to lift the next of many offered pints from the alcohol plying but friendly staff.

Prices here were £59 a room, B&B, just a few years ago. Now it's £99 a night. Quite a jump. Yes it's a lovely little place, but at that price you can get rooms in much more spacious accommodation in the area. In fact if you're staying a few nights, at that price you're not far off the cost of the big lodges on the cliff top caravan parks. Food has improved. Smaller menu and as such the focus appears to have returned to quality, not quantity. It remains an amazing place to sit and have a beer and a bit on a sunny day, after being on the beach, but as a place to stay I think we'll look elsewhere now; it's just too expensive for what it is.

Meal two of the day and we're at the Ship Inn, Tresaith. Everything was great, so well cooked and delicious. So why only two stars?? We arrived pretty late and were very appreciative that the staff accommodated us (we did phone first). The starters of super food salad a nice take on a Niçoise salad of hot smoked salmon and a gorgeous soft egg. The mains, one of pork loin, the other pink juicy lamb rump were again cooked to perfection. The problem came with the 'sauces' the pork should have had a cider gravy and the lamb a red wine sauce. They both came with the same beige coloured gravy (instant??). I asked the waitress why this was and she duly went to the kitchen and returned with a bottle of cider vinegar (which is apparently used in a cider gravy) and a jar or red current jelly (which when mixed with gravy is apparently how a red wine sauce is made)!! Now if everything else hadn't been so good I'd have believed this ridiculous explanation, but that was not the case, not even close; everything else was perfectly cooked, so perfect that I cannot believe the chef does not know the simple methods of producing these sauces. If we arrived too late for there to be time for another red wine reduction then please tell me so, don't lie to me. Bill paid in full, no apology or reduction offered.

Nice comfortable, clean room with a balcony overlooking the sea. We had dinner here and the food was very good with locally sourced good quality ingredients. The drinks, as noted by another reviewer, seemed more London prices and quite expensive. Also the pub could do with a comfy seating area and we may have stayed longer after our meal if there had been some armchairs etc., Breakfast was cereals, drinks and some good hot options, again really good quality stuff. We were told that the kitchen was busy, they took our order and stated that it might be a little while. We were in no rush and enjoyed our drinks and our food soon arrived. The cod was delicious with the lightest of batters and best of all no bones. The two men had the gammon which was also delicious and the pineapple was fresh and char grilled, a lovely touch. Instead of chips with the gammon we asked if mashed potato could be substituted, the chef said no problem. The meal could not be faulted and we certainly will be returning again very soon.
