My partner's cake was okay but my coffee was one of the single most disappointing and disgusting experiences. It was more bitter than most divorces: it tasted like the beans were burnt. When I complained they did, to their credit, instantly replace it. With another one that was bitter and undrinkable. Given that the first time I asked for the replacement the young staff looked as if I had told them I'd killed their nan or something evil as such, I decided not to bother.... As indeed, dear reader, I suggest you do. Wait till you get back down the bottom and get yourself something nice from Costa.

Arriving at where the Y Consti is located, the views of Aberystwyth were magnificent. Far less than magnificent was the attitude of a certain young female member of staff who refused my wife and I the opportunity to use the toilet. Having only just served us a drink for us to enjoy outside in the sunshine, to say just moments later, “Sorry, we are closing” as a reason for us not to make use of the facilities was patently rude and inconsiderate, and clearly not the right thing to do. Worse, upon asking politely for her to make an exception, she shut the door in my face!! Look, staff have to close up shop and get off home we all realise this, but why spoil a customer experience? Common sense and decency ought always to prevail in my view. Not a happy memory I’m afraid.

Arrived at around 12.10 ordered lunch, cakes and drinks, food was cold the cutlery was dirty and a hair was in the cake😞! Very disappointing as we paid over £45.00, upon visiting the bathroom wow what a mess was filthy not dirty but filthy, filth all over both toilet and some on the wall no paper and the floor was beyond disgusting. It’s a real shame as outside was stunning the train up was nice, to think I actually recommended the place to someone a week earlier.

Heck of a treck up to the cafe (especially if you have heart issues) and no indication at the bottom of the hill that it's open (which I realise is not the cafe's responsibility). Great cafe though with a good menu choice (see pics) and plenty of seating both in and out. The views are spectacular and worth the effort alone. The staff are wonderful and very polite. As it was a very cold day I opted for a decaf latte to warm me up followed by a breakfast bap filled with 2 X fried eggs. Gorgeous! Only negative I can think of is that a small breakfast with just one of everything isn't available. 2 of everything is sometimes too much. Otherwise 5⭐

On a grey cold, wet and windy day in March Aberystwyth did us proud. After a ride up Constitution Hill in the funicular railway we popped in the cafe and had good coffee, while there the weather turned so we abandoned our walk to Borth and instead got tempted by the vegan options on the menu. The vegan chilli was tasty and filling, the vegan soup got the thumbs up especially accompanied by a bowl of chips! Y Consti was also adaptable in their hospitality obliging our friend with their desire for a vegan hash brown roll that wasn't in fact on the menu. The view was lovely even when grey but lucky for us the sky cleared as we got back down into Aberystwyth and to our surprise we weren't too late in the year to catch an amazing murmuration at the pier. We'll definitely be popping back when the camera obscura is open for more good coffee and a violife cream cheese baguette!

After a walk and a trip up the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway on a very hot day, we looked forward to a reviving drink and bite to eat, served with the friendly, welcoming demeanour we had come to expect from the people we'd met after just a few days in North Wales. Er... wrong! I can't remember what the quality of food and drink was like in Y Consti, all I really remember was the attitude of one of the young ladies at the counter. Because I have to be careful with what I eat, I asked about the ingredients of a piece of cake, to which she did answer, but not in a definite manner, so I asked if she was certain. She did respond, but in a very surly manner. It's a shame to write a review based on one person's rudeness, but unfortunately, that is the overriding view we came away with at a place that offered such outstanding views of Cardigan Bay.

So we asked how much extra we had to pay to have hot chocolate ...the cream teas are well priced at £4.50. She told us it would be £6.50 for a cream tea with hot chocolate ..not with cream or mallows I said just an ordinary hot chocolate ....her attitude was awful towards us ..and we left......we will not come to the cafe again which is very sad for us ...I was really upset over her attitude!!! We popped in for lunch whilst visiting Aberystwyth and the cliff railway. We all ordered the same, burger with the usual trimmings, tea and ice cream to follow. There were a few empty tables outside but all had dirty plates, cups, glasses and cutlery on them. We cleared one onto the next table. At no time in our 45min stay did anyone clear them away. The food was ok, nothing special which made the price of around £25 seem a bit steep. There was a dropped ice cream by the doors, thus was attracting wasps, as was the piled up plates. None of the outside tables had been wiped down and they were all sticky.I popped in to find the loo and was surprised to see a dog looking out from the office into the area behind the bar, not a small dog but a hoofing great Alsation! We got our ice cream and ate it outside in the wind, it was the only way to combat the wasps! On checking the council health star rating I wasn't surprised to see they only had 3 stars. Not good.

We came up on the cliff top railway around lunchtime and stopped for a bite to eat. We had fish, chips, peas and side salad. All was cooked fresh and came out piping hot and at the same time. My partner was also able to have a larger as it is licensed. Definately recommend and will certainly return

Went up on the cliff railway to Y Consti. The place is great ,and we had decided before we went up to have food at the top . We went in and took our table . Then got straight into the menu ,which isn't large but full of local foods fresh fish steak pies and a good veggie part for non meat eaters ,which we are not . My wife had lasagne which she said was fresh ,and very enjoyable. My son had curry half and half ,which I had a taste of ,and found it was stunning with my son saying so himself. I had the fresh cut ham eggs peas and chips ,it looked mouthwatering, and so did it taste. We all enjoyed our food ,with the sea air making you that much more hungry. The views from the building were breathtaking. We really did enjoy our visit ,and did have planned another trip in 2017 . Which both my wife and son are looking forward too. Well done Y Consti a great experience thank you .

Visited in June as we took the cliff train up Consti and thought we would take in the views by having some tea and cake at the top. A great building, with amazing big windows for a great view... but the decor was horrendous! Fairy lights galore strung from the ceiling, a very OTT sound system with giant speakers hung from the walls like it was a nightclub, old room dividers which had been reclaimed from a nearby hotel as they had the hotel branding still on?! Seriously? At the bar where you paid, there were spirits and lots of alcohol like it was a pub? I'm not sure that this would be somewhere you'd go to have a couple of drinks with mates. Fair enough offering beers, ciders, wine etc with meals but this had an overly extensive collection for it's client (I believe). There were sofas and a low table to sit at, but a notice that food couldn't be eaten at it! We went in and chose our table and a gut came to clean it over, he asked me to stand while he did once i was already seated. Found it quite unnecessary as i was in the corner and he could of wiped the table easily whilst I was sat down. Tea and cake was good and averagely priced. This place could be such a gem, just needs a good overhaul into more of a tea room/cafe than whatever it is trying to be at the moment!

Visited today at lunchtime after a trip on the cliff railway. We ordered coffee and a couple of paninis and sat outside in the blustery wind as we had our little dog with us. We were very cold and my wife asked one of the girls working there if dogs were allowed inside. To our amazement they are. The place is totally dog friendly, unlike most places in Aberystwyth, i might add. This made our lunch, which was lovely anyway, much more pleasurable.Thank you all so much.

We visited for lunch a few days ago when it was relatively quiet. I ordered a chicken melt panini which arrived as quick as you'd expect for a quiet day. The cheese was tasteless and the chicken was clearly pre cooked-bought in slices, not fresh and not cooked in the cafe. The chips were horrible and stale. It seemed like they had been cooked a while before and left on a hot counter. Salad was lifeless and poor quality. We weren't given any cutlery wth our food either. Service wasn't great and definitely not attentive.I know this is just a cafe but it was still poor quality for even cafe standard food. Would not come again.

It is a nice place at the hilltop on Constitution Hill at Aberystwyth, not only to eat and drink but also a place to relax watching the wonderful view of the picturesque town of Aberystwyth and the Irish sea below. Nice tea, a nice drink and nice food can be taken either sitting inside the Bar cum restaurant or, outside in the open or, under a colourful garden umbrella. Full breakfast is served beside other items at a very reasonable price. If one does not want to eat, just take a pot of tea just for 1.6 GBP , feel the breeze of Irish sea and enjoy the beauty of the coastline and the sea below. I strongly recommend a visit to the 'Y Consti' and the Constitution hill if one is in Aberystwyth. Well, one can either walk up or, take the Cliff railway to reach the place.

We stopped for a picnic here after out walk up from Clarach. I have eaten here before and the food was delicious, but not this time. When the weather is nice, they have a bouncy castle and other bits on for the kids. The camera obscura is worth a look for the views (there is a fee)And you can catch the cliff railway into aber or walk. Just for the photo opportunities alone I would come here. It's absolutely amazing and you can see so much or Cardigan Bay and the Ceredigion coast.Gorgeous place

Have probably had the worse service experience in my life. Ask to have the table cleared and the mans attitude stank. Told he will clear when he can. The waitress came out with order and again asked to have table cleaned. She said she would on her return. When she returned with 2nd part of order her face was so unhappy. I did say service with a smile to which she returned with the following. I've been here 9 straight days, I'm 4.5 months pregnant and I got e-coli. So would anyone with e-coli still be allowed to service food. Cracking advertisement for the Ceredigion tourist board.

Food we ordered was nice but it took ages to actually get served. This has been the case on a few visits. There were plenty of staff working but there didn't seem to be a decent system in place. Great views and a nice pint. I would suggest taking your own refreshments up the hill.

We booked Sunday lunch yesterday (very easy to book online) and received friendly, attentive service from the staff member who greeted us, took us to our table and served us thereafter. I have downgraded you by one star for the fact that the table we were taken to was dirty and had evidently not been cleaned following the last diners' departure. This is not the first time we have found the same issue at the Starling Cloud - in fact on our last visit a month ago we had exactly the same problem with our table needing to be cleaned after we had been seated. This makes a very poor first impression, although as regular customers it is something we have now become used to! Although your staff member was very attentive and immediately went to get cleaning materials (and subsequently left the table spotless), I would say the management are definitely missing a trick here. If I were a first time visitor, I would not necessarily stay to sample the cuisine after being seated amongst someone else's spilt peas, carrots and gravy! Unfortunately cleanliness of tables seems to be an ongoing issue at the Starling Cloud that someone in charge needs to get to grips with - your standards could and should be improved! The food was excellent - we had two Sunday roasts (one beef and one pork) which were both delicious, well cooked and a generous plateful. The reason we booked the Starling Cloud yesterday was because of positive previous dining experiences here. We have a holiday home in the local area, we eat out in the local area very frequently and we rate the Starlling Cloud as serving one of the best Sunday lunches in the area. We are dog owners and only eat at venues which are dog-friendly. We are therefore glad you choose to welcome dogs, which in turn makes it easier for us to choose the Starling Cloud as one of our regular eating-out destinations. Top marks for food and service.
