The Starling Cloud in Ceredigion

I love the starling cloud because the staff is fangtastic,the room are big and the food is fangtastic and lovely that is makes you full so I would love to come there anytime

The staff here are outstanding. We met Jess and Phoebe tonight and their wealth of knowledge and interpersonal skills really shone. My wife and I brought our five year old for a short break. When we arrived there were easily ten tables dining and plenty of activity! Including ourselves wanting to check-in, book breakfast and our evening meal after a harrowing car journey. Jess lifted our spirits, was uplifting and maximised our sons enjoyment of the evening too. I witnessed her repeating serve at the bar, serve tables, clear tables, check the toilets and far more to an impressive standard. Phoebe also served me at the bar when I ordered our meals and she is equally as unflustered and capable as any other hospitality member I have ever met. These two ladies were exceptional at customer service, at judging the mood of every client and meeting every person's needs at every level and serving over and above the expected to everyone. Marstons, I hope you realise what you have here at the Starling Cloud. Many many thanks to them both please!

Plated carvery is tasty enough but the portion size is on a small size. The waiting time on Sunday for food is very long though.

Fantastic service from Phoebe, Rowan and Jess. Very loving and caring. We were there for a birthday meal we arrived and the table was decorated lovely so we felt special on arrival. Ali and Henry in the kitchen cooked all our steaks to perfection. I have mine blue. And it was perfect. Warm in the middle while still being raw. Well done Ali fantastic steak. After the meal. The cake came out and all staff including kitchen team came out to sing. Well done to the entire team. Thank you

We didn't eat there hence the lack of stars, but I assure you, everything else about the place was brilliant. Well worth a stay.

Had roast pork dinner. Friend had roast beef. Roast potatoes were so hard they weren't edible. And it was cold. No apple sauce. Very skimpy on the gravy. Won't be rushing back for food there again... Over priced and over cooked and cold.. And not very nice

In the same league as a premier inn. Good location and food and drink were as expected for a pub chain.

I cannot account for why my husband and his friend were turned away from ordering coffee/tea by the uncooperative manager this morning. It was before the lunchtime trade, but they didn’t want to order food. It’s been a convenient rest stop many times during dog walks or to assist with a friends health recovery. Your web site states that the bar is open from 7-11, why were people being turned away?

Stayed in the hotel and had a meal in the pub. Really nice place to stay whilst visiting my step-son at University.

We booked Sunday lunch yesterday (very easy to book online) and received friendly, attentive service from the staff member who greeted us, took us to our table and served us thereafter. I have downgraded you by one star for the fact that the table we were taken to was dirty and had evidently not been cleaned following the last diners' departure. This is not the first time we have found the same issue at the Starling Cloud - in fact on our last visit a month ago we had exactly the same problem with our table needing to be cleaned after we had been seated. This makes a very poor first impression, although as regular customers it is something we have now become used to! Although your staff member was very attentive and immediately went to get cleaning materials (and subsequently left the table spotless), I would say the management are definitely missing a trick here. If I were a first time visitor, I would not necessarily stay to sample the cuisine after being seated amongst someone else's spilt peas, carrots and gravy! Unfortunately cleanliness of tables seems to be an ongoing issue at the Starling Cloud that someone in charge needs to get to grips with - your standards could and should be improved! The food was excellent - we had two Sunday roasts (one beef and one pork) which were both delicious, well cooked and a generous plateful. The reason we booked the Starling Cloud yesterday was because of positive previous dining experiences here. We have a holiday home in the local area, we eat out in the local area very frequently and we rate the Starlling Cloud as serving one of the best Sunday lunches in the area. We are dog owners and only eat at venues which are dog-friendly. We are therefore glad you choose to welcome dogs, which in turn makes it easier for us to choose the Starling Cloud as one of our regular eating-out destinations. Top marks for food and service.

Good friendly pub, food was good

Fab pub and the staff were so friendly and helpful. As soon as we walked in, they made you feel welcome and couldn't have done more for us. The food was great with a tood selection too.

I visited for a family lunchtime meal. Our food order had to be chased because it was so slow, and the food was decidedly average. I am unlikely to return.

Friendly greeting and showed immediately to our table. Nice clean roomy table and given plenty of time to order drinks / food. Tasty hot food and generous portions delivered to table with care. A very good experience - and nice clean environment. Thank you. See you again!

Exceptional service by staff as well as delicious food, a great evening out with friends in a comfortable environment

The hotel was nice, the bed was huge and comfy, and the shower was great. I went for breakfast in the morning, and I wasn't too happy with the quality of the bacon sandwich (which was literally over cooked bacon between to slices of unbuttered toast) and how much that costed me. For a bacon sandwich and a bottle of water, I was charged almost £10. Everything else was nice, including the night porter, very helpful.

Not a bad little pub but not one of the best Marston's we've stayed in on our bike trips! There'd just been a rally and apparently most of their food had been wiped out so our menu choice was limited. There was a baby shower going on as well which made the place a bit of a tip! Not cheap for beers. £6:15 for pint of Estrella. Room was fine.

Socially distanced attentive staff and lovely food really like this place

I took my young family to starling cloud for a meal recently and everything was faultless. We were so pleased with the level of service and had a lovely warm welcome from a young girl, I think her name was Charlie. She was so accommodating and went out of her way to provide us the best service with a huge smile.😊 Food was delicious. Overall I would highly recommend visiting. 5 star 🌟

Sorry to say that today's meal & service was poor. Waited at the door but there was no staff around. Another customer waiting at the bar said she hadn't seen anyone. A barman appeared after 5 minutes and announced he was on his own. The chicken burger was very dry & overcooked. 3 onion rings for £1.50....

Wonderful friendly welcome, escorted to table, menus given, procedures explained and drink order taken. Drinks served and food order taken - checking on preferences etc. Starters arrived in good time and were good quality followed by main course and offer of further drinks or wine. Service throughout was very attentive and charmingly friendly. We will definitely be returning for the service and value for money.

Kayla is extremely helpful and efficient. Service was absolutely brilliant. Food was of great quality also. Would highly recommend!

Room was comfortable and clean. Plenty of tea/coffee. Keycard was easy to use. Despite having to go into the pub to check in, everything was explained thoroughly about checking out, booking breakfast & evening meal. Hotel was within walking distance of town centre for bars & restaurants. Lovely walk through the park which is easily accessible behind the hotel. A visit to the train museum is highly recommended and there is something to see for everyone.Would definitely stay again and would recommend to others. Price was reasonable considering we stayed over August Bank holiday.

Visited during the Rally event & they smashed it out the park fair play. Beer was good & food was spot on! The staff seemed well prepared and organised for such a big busy event, they should be so proud of themselves. Well done all

Had a most pleasant evening meal here, the highlight of my meal was the Beef and Ale Pie—perfectly cooked, with tender, flavorful beef encased in a rich, flaky pastry. The ale gravy added depth and warmth, making it comfort food at its finest. To top it off, the Chocolate Brownie for dessert was divine—decadent, moist, and with just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect end to a wonderful meal. Good range of drinks, all priced at arounf the going rate. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was top-notch, Rowan was our waiter and he was attentive and good-mannered. I can't recommend Starling Cloud enough—truly a five-star experience!

Grandson treated us to a lovely meal, came out fast and hot, husband had a steak and ale pie while I had a lasagna both lovely, server Rowan was very polite and we will definitely be coming again

Nice pub close to town. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Only down side is this is a pub and then stop serving at 9 40. Very disappointed after a long day out not to be able to get anything to eat or drink

Booked in and stayed 1 night, Accommodation, clean and Comfortable, Staff at Pub were very good, helpful friendly and accommodating. Evening meal in bar was very good and well cooked and served, but felt the choices on the menu were quite limited, especially for gluten free. Breakfast we felt wasn't so good, not well cooked, and not the best quality and for £8.75 poor value for money. Even the fruit in the bowl was bruised and passed its best. Not a fan of the pay extra for breakfast idea, we usually book places where the breakfast is included in the room price. We paid £100 for a room for 1 night for 2 of us. then were having to shell out another £17.50 for 2 breakfasts, which we felt was a b it steep for what you got, and the quality. not impressed with the breakfast at all. INFACT us and another couple appeared to be the only ones in for breakfast, we saw most people just leaving without breakfast and even saw a couple bringing in a take away breakfast from McDonalds. Which sums up the fact that the breakfast is too expensive and not good enough...if this was changed you might see/get a lot more people in for breakfast. I have to say, if I had known in advance that we had to pay that much for a measly overcooked breakfast before hand we Definitely would not of had it, and definitely wouldn't stay there again because of this, which is a shame as the room and the staff were very good.

Really not happy on this occasion so many issues. First issue was lack of training for the young boy making drinks and taking orders behind the bar. 2nd I really wanted to try a cocktail which they had no strawberries so used lime tasted diacusting like bitter was horrible. The young boy had to ask how to do. 3rd didn't receive no table service after booking had to go the bar and order which wasn't happy at all. Had to wait at the bar 10mins and more to even place our food & drinks orders 4th my partner wanted the mixed grill but we was told that stock had run out. So I ordered the Gamon my partner order a steak which cost nearly £22.00 which came out burnt on the top like charcoal he wanted med to rare which he didn't get. My gammon also was burnt slightly like charcoal. My partner ordered double rum and coke which was also half glass mainly with pepsi to the top couldn't taste the rum tasted nasty. I also ordered garlic bread on the side and a bowl of fries which was the nicest out the whole meal very unhappy to have spent 70.00 on the above with all the issue we faced we wanted to go for a nice meal and turned out a disaster.

Ideal for what we needed. Rooms similar to premier inn. Was difficult to arrange for tea coffee to be replenished in the room if staying multiple nights.

Popped in at the last minute on a Sunday around 3 o'clock, I had the beef roast, my partner had the pork roast, we had extras of pigs in a blanket and stuffing balls.. all extremely tasty, served hot and all cooked perfectly! Food came out quite quickly, the atmosphere was nice and quiet, and the waiter was very attentive. 1 cinder shandy, 1 pint of pepsi, 2 Sunday dinners and two sides all in all £45 which isn't too bad! Will definitely be returning

Stayed at Marstons Inn and Starling Cloud last night to meet up with friends. Lovely spacious room, very clean and comfortable beds. Food at the Starling was excellent 👌 staff were really friendly. Lovely breakfast and plenty of it.

We went as a family last night, we had a a brilliant meal. Staff very friendly nothing is to much trouble. We stayed in their hotel which is at the side. No problems with the family room. We went for breakfast which starts at 07.00hrs to 10.30hrs. Plentiful of choices for everyone. Dog friendly throughout. Will revisit again and tell family and friends.

Great check in and stay, very welcoming throughout. Comfortable beds in a family room. Room was serviced every day (3 night stay).

Had Rowan as our server, I am gluten free and had prawn cocktail while the wife had tomato arancini, food was lovely and gluten free bread good for what it is, server was polite and funny, overall a good time and will definitely be coming back next time we are in Aber, big thumbs up

The hotel was fine,the restaurant was a joke. Thursday night was advertised as steak night on all the tables, order a steak and get a free drink. We arrived at 6. 55 pm for our 7pm pre booked table. We ordered our drinks and waited 25 minutes for them to arrive. I then ordered 2 mixed grills to be told we have no mixed grills. We looked at the menu again and ordered a Ribeye steak & a Sirloin steak. The waiter says sorry we have no steak at all !! . I asked why are you advertising steak night on all the tables when you have no steak? By this time it was too late to go anywhere else and we ended up having fish & chips. Why were we not told when we arrived there was no steak on the menu. We had travelled 125 miles for our 2 day short break in Aberystwyth and felt very let down. We will not be staying or eating at another Marston Inn again.

Great customer service from the staff. The rooms are clean and quiet. Food is (as you would expect) very average.

We went there on a Sunday and they finished seeing breakfast at 10. So we went some where else.

Had a very quiet and relaxing stay. Room was spotless. Bed was super comfy and big. Toilet was very clean and had everything you needed. All the staff were very helpfully and polite. Pub/restaurant was very nice.

3 stars because why is it 6.90 a pint. What a joke no need to charge that amount. The food is lovely staff are lovely.

Service a bit slow and didn't have a cider on tap. Drinks are very expensive, over £5.90 for a bottle of Old Mount Cider and £8.75 for a large pinot grigio. The play area outside is also not suitable for toddlers as they can't get up on to the slide without help of an adult as its more of a climbing frame.

Absolutely beautiful food. Ordered the signature platter and the Estella offer was 2 for £7.00 (Fridays can’t remember the times) Staff were so friendly, came for a chat and made me feel extremely welcome after a rubbish day.

Jess and Luke are so lovely and welcoming and are always happy to help with anything we need. They even lit a candle on our table as it was our anniversary! We visit normally weekly and they are always happy and smiling and the steaks are delicious. Thanks both ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Got order wrong ..3 eating 1 having to wait ..Had complementary drink then charged for it ... Bit of a shambles..

Very friendly service. Food was amazing. Never felt rushed. There was a young lad came in at one point who had an accident on his bike, he was crying and hyperventilating. Jess, one of your amazing staff members, took control of this, she calmed him down and got a drink and contacted the young lads parents...all while apologising to me for having to wait a little longer for service ! We are not from the area but when we do return we will definitely be going back and will recommend to anyone else.

Visited Saturday 15th, not busy so no excuse for dirty tables, waited 10 minutes for 2 drinks, prawn cocktail was literally few prawns lettuce and flavourless sauce, empty candle holder on table, no salt, next table were waiting 5 minutes for 2 soup spoons, eventually had to go up to bar and ask again for them, their mains came when one was still eating starter, manager needs some serious training.

Very unhelpful manager that refused to let us sit in the dining area and told us to sit in the bar area. The place was empty. She wanted us to sit nearer the bar and offered a dirty table which we turned down and therefore had to leave.Very rude person.

Worst experience ever. Not enough hours to put everything down on here but adults got served food before the children and one of my children waited 55 minutes after everyone had finished food before he received his. Absolutely disgraceful

Food is ok, a bit basic. Every time we have been they are always out of stock for quite a few items as I don't think they order enough in stock. The place is pleasant and the staff are friendly.

Never fails to disappoint! Doesn't matter how many chances this place gets it never hits the mark... But it really is such a lovely place! The staff are always friendly and welcoming but the food really needs some help! I had a pie and I couldnt cut it! The pastry was so hard. Finally managed it.. It tasted OK but its just like the kitchen doesn't care Lovely setting for a drink outside in the sun

The front of house staff were very friendly and the food was good. However the wait between the Starter and main was about 30 mins. We had to ask for our main and we found this strange as it was very quiet. We had the Steak and Ale Pie which was very nice but there was not enough gravy so we asked for a little more. The waitress went to the kitchen to ask and came back looking very embarrassed and said we couldn't have any more. I asked the gentleman who took our order why and he said it has been a busy half term and so we need to keep the gravy for other customers. Never experienced that in a Marstons before.

Friendly and quick service. Lots of space inside, not too crammed together like some places can be. Toilets clean.

We ordered a hunters chicken with Salad. The salad consisted of lettuce and a bit of grated carrot, no tomatoes, cucumber or anything else. Sadly disappointed.

We called in for a light lunch and chose the Fish Goujon Sandwich with Salad, what can I say, one half of the sandwich had fish the other a piece of lettuce and tartar sauce, and the salad was just a bowl of rocket, no thought at all. We did tell the Waitress, but she just said that was what they were allowed to serve.

Starling cloud has really turned itself round for the better food is lovely customer service is outstanding and an absolute credit to your business jess one of your waitresses is outstanding nothing is to much trouble she has the rare ability to make you feel at home in the restaurant I'm a support worker for the NHS and am a full time mum and no matter which hat I wear Jess makes it a special time for us even if it's just drinks we want which makes us want to keep coming back over and over we had Christmas Dinner for 10 of us new year Dinner birthday meal ect and if I'm completely honest Jess and grants hospitality skill are what draws us back I'm a local woman and many friends of ours are speak highly of Jess and grant

Honestly I wouldn’t bother, this place is awful, it’s dirty, sticky and in need of some serious maintenance. We waited 45 minutes for two baguettes, yes, baguettes. Safe to say they weren’t worth the wait or the money. Little further up the road is the raven, I’d go there instead.

Had a lovely meal a couple weeks ago at the starling cloud. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and the front of house jess was very accommodating and friendly. My 6 year old pointed out how nice she was so service was top notch. They've changed menu since our last visit and food was more expensive but was well worth it. I had the baked feta and halloumi kebab and have been craving it ever since so will definitely be back.

We had cheese garlic bread which was inedible really bad . we had scampi and chips had worse did tell them about the garlic bread but hey ho 🤦‍♀️🤨

Kitchen closes before 20:00 and bar closes at 21:30? This isn’t a pub, or a hotel. Don’t stay here. It’s miserable.
