Such a welcoming cosy pub, enjoyed a couple of early evening drinks and a some impressive and tasty starters. Lovely chatting to our customers and friendly landlord. We need to use these local pubs!! Such a pretty village for a night or 2 away and fab coastal walks.

Landlady not very welcoming on arrival made us feel we were in the way. Given the time of year you'd expect she would be grateful for the business. We decided to eat elsewhere, we would not visit the pub again.

We were staying in Portloe for the week and regularly used the Ship Inn for drinks and ate here one evening. We were made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed each of our visits. As a St.Austell brewery pub, you get the usual good range of beers, well kept; however, there's also for a small establishment a fair wine choice. We were lucky enough to persuade our hosts to put a pie on the menu for Wednesday night (and this was a proper pie, none of your puff pastry on top of a stew), which was excellent (with generous veg serving). Definitely recommend a visit and a few jars if you're not driving!

After an arduous 5 mile coastal walk, like a mirage in the desert, the Ship Inn came into view and the thought of a nice cold pint of Tribute actually kept me going on the last leg of the walk. The landlord gave us a very warm welcome and we ordered our drinks and duly sat down with our drinks to watch the 6 Nations rugby match. We were suddenly hit by the lovely smell of delicious food from the neighbouring table. Although the pub had stopped serving food, with a look of starvation and desperation on our faces, the landlord took pity on us and kindly agreed to take our order. To summarise taking in the atmosphere, the beer and food. All in all it was a 5 star experience. Ps we cannot wait to return.

We visited The Ship Inn at Portloe for a few drinks and decided to come back for some food. The staff and locals were very friendly and accommodating, we had a great laugh together. We had an amazing experience here! We arrived after they’d finished serving lunch after a long stretch of coastal path hiking. Luckily, the friendly landlord served us two bowls of cheesy chips with our beers and the return part of our circular hike was made possible again. Lovely cosy pub in a picturesque village. Menu looked great! Thanks guys, we’ll be back!

On arrival at The Ship Inn we were greeted by a nice lady who served us some drinks at the bar. We then went over to a table to settle down for what we thought was going to be a nice meal. The lady took our order and suggested to my partner that the fish was a good choice as it was huge, so we ordered the fish & chips and I opted for the chilli con carne. We didn’t have to wait long before the food was bought out and this is where the problems started! The fish wasn’t “huge” at all and the chilli portion was tiny. I politely asked for some more chilli and the nice lady’s attitude towards us changed completely at this point. If you can’t take criticism lady then you’re in the wrong job! She asked the chef for some more who apparently said yes he will sort it yet she then said we don’t have any and I could have some chips. The chips were mediocre but the chilli had very little taste to it, you’d be better off spending £1 on a microwave meal which would taste better. I would normally have taken this further and asked to speak with the manager having been completely ripped off for the price of the bland food, our drinks and the poor service but it was the start of our holiday, my family were all tired and we just wanted to leave. We had high hopes for this place but we won’t be returning again.

Great, great pub. We popped in for a drink on our first day in Portloe and returned every day during our stay. We were made to feel so very welcome by Nick, the landlord and the locals - such a wonderful atmosphere. The food was great.. would recommend the curry and the fish and chips. Lorraine looked after us on each visit was kind enough to bake scones so that we could enjoy a Cornish Cream Tea .. so very kind of her. Nothing was too much trouble for her - thank you. We look forward to returning next year. Merry Christmas to you all and of course Lunar.

It was so friendly and charming, food was delicious big portions, not like some other place down the road, we came across it by walking up the hill and looking at the view of Portloe, as we were booked into somewhere else to stay, The ship inn is warm, cozy, with a generous supply of food and drinks to offer, they are dog friendly, and we also found out they have rooms to let out for families and couples / singles, if we had known this before we would have booked to stay there as was cheaper and better than where we were staying,

What a lovely local pub! Nick was a joy behind the bar, very welcoming of holiday makers and a lovely conversationalist. We were staying at a local hotel, where we were disappointed not to be able to get a table either day for evening dinner, however that disappointment meant that we found this lovely friendly pub, who were more than happy to feed us both evenings. Lorraine was friendly, attentive and efficient, its the little things that make the difference, knowing I had been having ice in my wine, she made sure that as she served the next bottle at the table, it came with a glass of ice on the side. Great service Lorraine! (Much better/friendlier service than I got down the road at the posh hotel for breakfast) We had great food at a reasonable price both evenings, I can recommend the fish goujon starter, which was so good I had to have it both evenings! Thanks Jarrad Wish this was my local!

This is a real gem in a beautiful spot. On holiday and feeling hesitant about eating out (I can't eat gluten and we had our dog with us), we happened to pass outside the Ship Inn. So pleased we did. What a warm welcome from Lorraine! She pointed out the gluten free menu options and our dog, being well-behaved and on a lead, was welcome inside. What a treat! We ordered ham, egg and chips for me and fish and chips for hubby. Both meals were delicious. Really tasty. And even our dog Tess had a biscuit treat or two. Curry night on a Monday and Quiz night on Wednesday. Both really popular so reservation may be advisable. Thank you for a lovely meal and such a warm welcome!

So good to see this wonderful pub (in a sublime position) being well managed again by people who care and it shows. Garden after a few years of sloppy managers is a great place to eat, bring dog, have a pint and listen to the brook run down to the sea. Service super-friendly and efficient. Beer was good, decent wine choices. Food is a highlight, warming typical pub grub but decent quality and lots of it, for example Hunters Chicken, is not a warmed chicken breast disguised under oceans of low grade BBQ sauce and awful cheese, it's is decent chicken with good strong cheddar and not overwhelmed by the sauce. Kids meals like chicken nuggets are not the typical low grade. Fish was good. Lunchtime menu, again good pub grub, Club Sandwich is a monster Thank you to the staff and management and wish you all the best in your venture, you deserve success
