Old Success Inn in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Early season, & staff don’t have it sorted yet. Main course was pretty good ( v slow to appear) but a 45 min wait to ORDER desserts was just too slow- we settled & left. This was my wife’s parents local, & held tight in her memories. This visit disappointed.

The Old Success Inn is one of my very favorite places in the world. Get the train or coach to Penzance and then the bus or a cab (no Ubers or much cell phone coverage) to Sennen Cove. You could base a lot of tourist trips from here - but the rooms are beautiful, WiFi is super fast, restaurant and kitchen are amazing, plus pub and breakfast room all in one place - and a dog friendly beach outside. I just bring a laptop and don’t go very far at all. Heaven.

We had a lovely lunch here today. Delicious food. Great service on a busy lunchtime.

3 night stay away that was fantastic!!... the scenery, the facility, the food, the beach... all great.. top marks to all the members of staff at this Inn. I don't think I've enjoyed as much a short stay away than this one, even though we had some of that Cornish rain that gets you soaked, it was really enjoyable. Our dog enjoyed the beach too, great space to watch the waves come in off the Atlantic. Our room was close enough to step straight out onto the road and walk down to the beach, pass the carpark that was really handy. £9 for 24 hour stay which in the grand scheme of things was reasonable. Dog friendly place, nice touch of a dog goody bag including poo bags, ball, treats when you stay, a dog bed for your pooch to kip on what more can the parents want..!! All food prepared was done to a turn and great selection to choose from be it breakfast, lunch or evening meal. Fresh produce used always, you could tell a mile off. Thank you to all of you for a super stay, we'll be back for more!!...

Always stop here for a drink after a walk on the beach with the dog. Lovely views if sitting outside. Never eaten at the pub, but food looks delicious. They also have rooms to rent. (Beach restrictions apply from may-sept. )

Spent one night with the family here (two adults and one baby), staff were super friendly and welcoming, assisted with booking an early evening reservation for dinner and helped with organising the room to accommodate our baby in their travel cot. The room was clean and tidy, with complimentary tea and coffee. The view from our room was fantastic and the light from the windows really made the place feel massive. Sennen Cove itself is lovely, albeit a bit blustery in March, walks along the beach are fabulous and there is easy access from the inn to the beach and nearby car parks. The breakfast was superb, full English was cooked brilliantly and with high quality meat and veg. Highly recommend staying here.

Beautiful pub in a beautiful spot! The staff were attentive, gave our little ones some crayons and paper :) the food was absolutely spot on , we had chicken breast (which can be small and dry in restaurants) but it wasn't here! The portions were large , flavourful and juicy! Some delicious drinks on tap too 😋

Absolutely loved a mini break here. Amazing views of Sennen Cove from the room. Staff so welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The dog got thoroughly spoilt with a treat bag in the room and a sausage at breakfast. So refreshing to find pet friendly places, and The Old Success didn't disappoint. Perfect get away for a chilled couple of days. And hope to return. Menu isn't vast but enough to chose from for a couple of days. 1 small ick, breakfast could be hotter!!

Unfair prices, overrated location

I have been staying in Sennen my entire life and it is my favourite place! Every now and again we like to visit The Old Success for a meal. Declan was our waiter and he was a blast! Full of energy and humour, he kept us laughing and well served. We were sad when he finished before we left but he added a great experience to our visit. He read his audience and acted exactly how we wanted him to. Thank you for a great meal and evening. (Just so he knows you if he reads this) We ordered 4 steaks, spilled a bottle of rattler and ordered 2 bottles of Prosecco a day late for the offer) We look forward to our next visit. Thank you.

We stayed for a couple of nights and wish it could have been longer. We had a clean, spacious room with spectacular sea views and a really comfortable bed. The staff were great, without exception. Breakfasts and the Sunday roast were delicious. Very much hope to return. Thank you!

A welcome retreat on a very wet and windy day. Greeted with smiles and professionalism. The brisket Sunday Lunch was a bit pricey BUT saying that-it was one of the best I have had...The meat just fell apart and the cauliflower cheese was rich and creamy. Superb staff and equally superb food-we recommend. Well done!

Great staff and restaurant was very professionally run by a busy and enthusiastic team. The Sunday Roast was one of the best lunches I have had in a long time.

We stayed at the Old Success Inn for 3 nights not knowing what to expect and our expectations were exceeded. The room was excellent and had a sea view, which was well stocked with teas, coffee etc. very comfortable bed and a large bathroom. The food was excellent, we went for an evening meal one evening and a Sunday roast which was delicious. All the staff were really friendly and we had a warm welcoming when arriving. The area is excellent with lots of walks and beaches, and we would definitely come back! :)

I had a Full English Breakfast. It is the best breakfast I have ever had. Even the poached egg, which I normally skip, was delicious. The meal was so good, later in the week I returned for dinner. a quiz night, and another breakfast. The atmosphere is cozy with views of the sea. There were fresh flowers on the tables and burning tapers in the evening. The wait staff was excellent and attentive each time I went. Andrew is the most excellent waiter. There was also a delightful woman quiz night, who waited on me. She made me feel welcomed.

Amazing! I absolutely loved it 🥰 Lou who served us in the bar was attentive and a good laugh in the evening, there was a lovely younger lad behind the bar too. For us though the star ⭐️ of the show was Declan from the bar, he served us up in the restaurant for dinner and then breakfast the next morning. What a busy bee he his! Watching him he was great with the customers, nothing was too much trouble and took the time to have a giggle without being overbearing. I thought he was at least a supervisor - St Austell maybe time to give him a promotion ☺️ The bed was stunning and my word the pillows were like sleeping on marshmallows, just what I needed after a stressful week! Will definitely be back for a Red velvet with Tia Maria and most definitely have the Prosecco on the Friday offer 🥂! Gorgeous walk to Landsend to blow away the old cobwebs, just wish we could have stayed longer. Proper Job St Austell 👏🏻😉

I can't leave a review on the the Inn, but i will leave a review on the staff. We had booked a short break in February as we have not visited this part of the country, we we looking forward to the location with views across the bay, all the reviews and photos from other visitors were outstanding. Part of the booking process asked us if we had any special requests, as a laugh I asked if we could have a picture of Chuck Norris in the room when we arrived, I got a reply from the Inn that they would see what they could do. We were looking forward to the break but unfortunately my mum fell ill and we had to cancel so that we were near her while she recuperated, it's been a tough couple of weeks as she has been in hospital and slowly recuperating at home, this week has been stressful as she has had 2 falls, ambulance to pick her up etc. This afternoon after her second fall I received a large envelope through the door, Valentine’s card, Birthday card? My birthday is in March, so it was a possible birthday card. Nope, it was a large picture of Chuck Norris from the Old Success Inn, we just fell about laughing, it has cheered us up and made us more determined to visit this hotel, perhaps in a few months when things settle down. Thank you to the staff at The Old Success Inn.

The pub has a lovely beer garden at the front, perfect for enjoying a pint while taking in the views of the beach and ocean. It’s a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring the area. Whether you’re just grabbing a drink or enjoying a sunny afternoon, it’s definitely worth stopping by for the beautiful setting and chilled vibes.

Me and 2 friends went to the old success inn for lunch. The location of the pub is beautiful - food was served quickly and was everything we wanted, especially the fries which were piping hot and incredibly fresh. Would definitely recommend!!

Really enjoyed our stay here this week, rooms really comfortable, views amazing, food great and staff very helpful, and very dog friendly too , overall very happy already looking forward to coming back - can't wait. You do need to park in the car park opposite tho £9 - 24hrs

We ate dinner as a group of 5 and took part in the Thurs quiz which was great fun. The food was perfect (esp fish and chips), the atmosphere was lively and v friendly and we had a fantastic evening. Thanks go to the lovely staff and the quiz master.

A great Sunday lunch. There were five in our party and we all had different dishes, including one vegan meal, all of which were superb. Served beautifully by the staff. Such a little gem of a restaurant/pub nestled in the delights of Sennen.

Sunday roast was average with cardboard Yorkshire puds, breakfast was good with a great selection, the staff and service were excellent. We stayed in a Superior Coastal room which had great views of the bay, very stylish and many little extras, such as snacks and drinks... Excellent value for money.

We enjoyed great food and friendly service during our stay in Sennen. Lovely pub where we felt very welcome & would definitely return.

We turned up at 10am when breakfast was to be finished. The staff kindly let us stay and order which was a life saver as we have a long drive back home today. The breakfast was brilliant, we had two full English plus a kids breakfast and the portions were big as was the quality, service was also great. We were also able to help ourselves to juice and toast which was a nice touch. Thankyou again for having us and we hope to be back in the future - we'll just make sure we turn up abit earlier next time :-)

We visited here whilst on holiday and it has to be the BEST Sunday roast we’ve ever had. Everything was cooked beautifully, the beef was perfect and we could not fault anything at all. It was busy but service was still super quick. The staff are so friendly and polite too. Wish we lived closer we would certainly be back every week!!

We spent 5 nights with what can only be described as our Christmas holiday family. We had a fantastic holiday and will be back next year. The food was delicious and the room was ideal for us and our dog x. The walks around Sennen are brilliant and we couldn’t get enough of the sea view. Recommend at anytime of the year but Christmas is always special 🎄

Had a most enjoyable 3 night stay at the Old Success with our 2 little dogs. We had room 28 which had amazing sea views looking over as far as Cape Cornwall. Dogs were welcomed & well catered for as was ourselves. Breakfast was included & we also had 2 evening meals there as well.....cannot fault the food, service, staff at all....& Lovely cosy, friendly atmosphere. An ideal spot to stay as straight onto the beach for the dogs & many other walks. Car park was £9 for 24 hours. Will definitely recommend & hopefully return again. Thank you

We had a wonderful stay for a couple of days with our dog. Wonderful atmosphere, the Christmas decorations were up. Comfortable spacious room overlooking the sea. Food and wine were delicious, breakfast set us up for the whole day, Tom and the team were so friendly, such a fuss was made of our dog, she had a brilliant time. A goody bag with treats plus a comfy bed and bowls were provided. Cannot fault this place, we will be back.

We discovered Sennen cove and the Old Success in 1989 and have visited many times since, but only recently have we actually stayed at the Old Success. It was too long coming we should have done it sooner. The room was beautiful , the food was amazing, and the service was beyond compare.

Fabulous atmospheric pub with great food, staff and service! (especially Andrew). Dog friendly with dog beds, treats & water bowels. Highly recommend.

A fantastic pub with great service and smiles all around, we stopped off for a coffee and a bite to eat. Food was very tasty and the coffee was beautiful. A few board games to choose from for those rainy days. All in all a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere.

Popped in for a light bite after a Sunday walk. We'd arrived in the middle of the Sunday Roast, a little hesitant about just ordering Soup, chips and a drink...no need...the service was fab, the food on point and the atmosphere tip top. Will be back a few times during our week's stay in Sennen 😀😎

Eaten here loads of times before but so disappointing this time I ordered vegan nut roast ( I'm not vegan I ordered as it sounded nice) it was like sand, I had to ask for gravy to soften it, it didn't come with a yourshire pudding or cauliflower cheese which i had asked about when ordereing however they did add that once I had asked about it. Due to the meal not being great they offered a free pudding I orded Eaton mess and it arrived like this!! I've never seen it served in this manner and it looked so un appetising I returned it. The other three people with me all had roast beef but all had items missing from their plate HI Chris I've just had your response thank you very much for taking the time to get back to me after the previous people had not! We will hopefully be in Cornwall next year and will definitely return especially as your customer services already far surpasses the previous management. Thank you again jayne

In Sennen Cove which is a beautiful place in the day, but parking at night in the dark meant we didn't see much of the scenery until we went back next day. Parking is extra. Got into the pub for a pre-booked table and when we sat down were asked for drinks order, which wasn't delivered to the table for over 25 mins. When my wife tried to ask for some vegetables with her Venison Burger the staff said that it was impossible as you had to order something else to get the vegetables. I've never heard of this before. Normally if the restaurant does the vegetables as part of another dish it can be substituted, but alas not here. The food took a while to arrive and then the dessert was a bit quicker. Another thing to watch for is the menus appeared different online to those in the pub, which meant we were faced with options I wouldn't have chosen. (Me being really picky) When I asked for a bowl of chips so that my wife wasn't eating alone, the waiter came over and said he thought it was a mistake that someone had ordered a bowl of chips only. Nice. Wonderful area, not sure I'd go back to the pub though.

We enjoyed a lovely room with a view here at this Inn. The food for dinner was delicious and the breakfast which was included was also very, very good!

Arrived to table was ready and a warm friendly welcome by the staff. Checked out the menu and ordered the food. Which came out only about 10 mi s later and was well presented and plenty of it. It was tasty. Staff asked if everything was good on at leat 2 occasion and it was. We had a table by the window in the pub bar area as we had a small dog and this was great. A thoroughly lovely pub and we would recomend it and the food. Well done keep it up.

Good selection on the menu. Staff were super friendly and always happy to help with whatever you needed. Would highly recommend the venison scotch eggs and arancini balls, superb food throughout though. Warm atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Stayed last weekend on the Friday before I proposed to my partner at Porthcurno on the Saturday. We stayed in the Ocean suite above the pub and it was absolutely amazing! The room was beautifully presented, large window seat looking out over the glorious Sennen Cove, a fully stocked mini fridge, nespresso machine and large screen tv. The main bedroom had a beautiful bathtub with views across which when you opened the wooden shutters had uninterrupted panoramic views across the cove. The bed was incredibly comfy, me and my fiancé fell asleep within 5 minutes of laying on it. The restaurant was amazing, top quality food and super friendly staff. The accommodation team go above and beyond also. Even going as far as giving me a complimentary bottle of Prosecco to enjoy for me and my partners engagement. Just want to thank you all again for an amazing experience which only made our weekend all the more wonderful. Will definitely be visiting again!!!

Lovely little pub, I didn’t even know this part of Sennen existed, but it’s worth a minor detour to find this little gem. Hugely friendly staff, and really good food.

After a long, tiring day of walking, this was a haven of welcome . Very accomodating to our weary pooch and the service was fast and friendly. There was a lovely relaxing vibe to the bar . The food was delicious, and the portion size was perfect and very reasonable prices. Lovely place that we would visit again if we come back this way.

Sunday lunch last Sunday, three family members. Very happy with the service and the food was as good as I remember it when my husband was a chef there way back in the 1970's!! Very generous helpings, tender meat and fresh veg. Copious portions (a pity that two size plates were not on offer maybe since I can't bear food waste) so we had enough to make a take away meal. Looking forward to going again. Three people with a drink eat and 3 ice cream with clotted cream deserts cost us about £95 I think it was. Just so you know, but that is the cost of Sunday lunch most places nowadays, and often much much more.

We've been to sennen Cove a few times now, but this is the first time we have had a meal at The Old Success Inn. My only regret is we didn't book sooner! The food was first class. We booked a table for Sunday lunch today, a table with a sea view..... massive bonus ! The meals were served quickly and did not disappoint. They looked absolutely amazing as they arrived and tasted even better ! It's really one of the best Sunday roasts I've had in a long time. Staff were friendly and always nearby. We will be back, if only to try a pudding, as we were so full, couldn't manage one this time!

My wife and I stayed at the Old Success Inn as part of our coast path hike. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast here. The inn was charming, cozy and comfortable. We would stay here again.

We booked this pub for our wedding reception, and it was absolutely perfect! The food was fantastic – everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We have quite a few dietry restrictions and they were very accomodating with everyones meal being delicious, kids and adults! The servers were so lovely and went out of their way to be helpful, ensuring all our guests were well looked after. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, creating the ideal setting for our celebration. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to host such a special occasion! Highly recommend.

where do I begin? Wow ! Wow! The atmosphere in the pub was extremely pleasant making myself and partner feel very relaxed , thoroughly enjoyed the food ( we dine out in many different places ) and this has got to be one of the best places ( in our little memory box and would definitely recommend to everyone ...) Serviced was very quick and the food when down just as quick absolutely delicious . Undecided what to drink ...and the manager ( I believe ) recommended a fruity cider again surprised just how much I enjoyed it . Thank you The staff are a really credit to the place extremely polite and friendly and they go above and beyond to make you feel very welcome . Compliments to the chef ....if we are down that way again....you bet we are heading to this pub 😁 You will be added as a hidden gem to find on my Tik Tok ..... It's a MUST DINE HERE . Thank you all on that very night that made a brilliant day turn into a brilliant evening . we were to full to have desserts , however we did and both of us left the plate clean presentation of the food was outstanding and scrumptious . Dog friendly , even dog beds and biscuits ....how adorable your not restricted if you own an animal ...albeit ours never came . 5 star all round can not fault it Lovely place on the sea front fantastic staff delicious food ...keep up the excellent work and be proud . A lovely traditional pub with good food. As a bonus after an early morning walk on Sennen Beach, they're open for breakfast.

Brilliant pub just a few metres from the beach. Its a St Austell pun so they have excellent Cornish ales. The food was spot on - I have been in for an excellent burger and a sunday roast. Couldn't have been more dog friendly.

Booked for an overnight stay which included breakfast. The room was lovely although a little small for a double. It had all amenities required other than a hairdryer. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the food was good. Our only niggle was our room overlooked the pubs outside seating area, which had a speaker playing loud music until after 11 pm, fine for those who didn't want to get an early nights sleep.

I stayed at The Old Success Inn for two nights recently and it was really first class. The bedrooms were comfortable, well appointed, and clean. Menus for breakfast, lunch, & dinner provided plenty of choice and the food was excellent and beautifully presented. The staff were all friendly, polite, and helpful. I would have no hesitation in staying at The Inn again and would highly recommend it.

They do a really good roast dinner. Seating is comfortable and spacious. It’s also dog friendly. My only criticism is that whilst half of the restaurant is well-lit with a nice view of the sea, the other half is dark and dim. I felt eager to get out into the sunshine after an hour seated there.

Had food here this evening and was underwhelmed . For the cost we thought the food was average at its best. My husband had fish tail scampi but it was more breaded frozen scampi and his peas were microwaved. The burger was tasteless and chips greasy/soggy. We thought for the standard it was very expensive and wouldn’t confidently recommend this place based on food. The waitress was polite and helpful.

Went for a Sunday lunch with our Dog, the staff were super friendly and had water bowls, blankets and treats at the ready which was great. Service was really friendly and food was great. Huge portions for the roast and nice sized starters, a very nice meal and a nice looking pub.

Strange booking system. Could not even squeeze 2 people in even when the place was half empty. Turning away customers is a bad thing at anytime. We did not eat here in the end and opted for fish and chips up the road which was very good. Not sure we will attempt to eat here again. St Just has plenty of good options up the road. St Austell brewery should really take a look at the practices in this place as they are losing money one would think. I’ve eaten in many places - you are definitely not good at what you do!!

Had a gorgeous evening meal in here ......food was spot on .....staff were lovely.

I’ve had decent experiences in the Old Success over the years so shame to leave a negative review but the service and attention to detail was sorely lacking on this visit. We were early for our booking @5 so checked in and sat in an empty dining room with large groups of flies flying around the lights. I would suggest these flies are dealt with before opening the restaurant? We eventually got a drinks (busy bar and changing shifts) not a big deal. But then considering we were an hour early we were then abandoned till 5:30 except for our booking to be repeatedly questioned which made us feel unwelcome. Food was already being served to other parties even though we had obviously been waiting the longest. In the end we walked out and went and got fish and chips which was a relief. Staff seemed nice enough as individuals but very disorganised with poor communication and no attempt at making us feel cared for or valued for our custom. I appreciate the pub has the footfall to not need to particularly care for individual bookings but it’s just an experience I won’t repeat.

Family lunch! We enjoyed the welcome and dogs enjoyed their paw station. Humorous staff who were efficient and helpful. Looking forward to visiting in low season soon.

It was our first time here. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was very tasty, although the prices were a little higher and the portions a little smaller. All in all, a good pub that is worth a visit.

Mains were perfectly nice- nothing remarkable, but better than the average pub grub. As a starter we shared the focaccia and olives which resembled sliced sandwich bread, for £9. Service was friendly but otherwise poor. Didn’t seem to be overly busy- certainly our waitress always found time to chill at the bar or look at her phone, but on multiple occasions forgot things- tap water, the one bottle of wine we ordered to share, etc. All while another member of staff seemed to be run off his feet- hosting, dealing with complaints, rushing around to clear tables. Not a great look, and we hope the tip we left was shared! Food took over an hour with no mention beforehand of a wait.

Excellent atmosphere and really friendly staff. Main course and desserts were great quality. Thoroughly recommend!
