In Sennen Cove which is a beautiful place in the day, but parking at night in the dark meant we didn't see much of the scenery until we went back next day. Parking is extra. Got into the pub for a pre-booked table and when we sat down were asked for drinks order, which wasn't delivered to the table for over 25 mins. When my wife tried to ask for some vegetables with her Venison Burger the staff said that it was impossible as you had to order something else to get the vegetables. I've never heard of this before. Normally if the restaurant does the vegetables as part of another dish it can be substituted, but alas not here. The food took a while to arrive and then the dessert was a bit quicker. Another thing to watch for is the menus appeared different online to those in the pub, which meant we were faced with options I wouldn't have chosen. (Me being really picky) When I asked for a bowl of chips so that my wife wasn't eating alone, the waiter came over and said he thought it was a mistake that someone had ordered a bowl of chips only. Nice. Wonderful area, not sure I'd go back to the pub though.

Arrived to table was ready and a warm friendly welcome by the staff. Checked out the menu and ordered the food. Which came out only about 10 mi s later and was well presented and plenty of it. It was tasty. Staff asked if everything was good on at leat 2 occasion and it was. We had a table by the window in the pub bar area as we had a small dog and this was great. A thoroughly lovely pub and we would recomend it and the food. Well done keep it up.

Stayed last weekend on the Friday before I proposed to my partner at Porthcurno on the Saturday. We stayed in the Ocean suite above the pub and it was absolutely amazing! The room was beautifully presented, large window seat looking out over the glorious Sennen Cove, a fully stocked mini fridge, nespresso machine and large screen tv. The main bedroom had a beautiful bathtub with views across which when you opened the wooden shutters had uninterrupted panoramic views across the cove. The bed was incredibly comfy, me and my fiancé fell asleep within 5 minutes of laying on it. The restaurant was amazing, top quality food and super friendly staff. The accommodation team go above and beyond also. Even going as far as giving me a complimentary bottle of Prosecco to enjoy for me and my partners engagement. Just want to thank you all again for an amazing experience which only made our weekend all the more wonderful. Will definitely be visiting again!!!

Sunday lunch last Sunday, three family members. Very happy with the service and the food was as good as I remember it when my husband was a chef there way back in the 1970's!! Very generous helpings, tender meat and fresh veg. Copious portions (a pity that two size plates were not on offer maybe since I can't bear food waste) so we had enough to make a take away meal. Looking forward to going again. Three people with a drink eat and 3 ice cream with clotted cream deserts cost us about £95 I think it was. Just so you know, but that is the cost of Sunday lunch most places nowadays, and often much much more.

where do I begin? Wow ! Wow! The atmosphere in the pub was extremely pleasant making myself and partner feel very relaxed , thoroughly enjoyed the food ( we dine out in many different places ) and this has got to be one of the best places ( in our little memory box and would definitely recommend to everyone ...) Serviced was very quick and the food when down just as quick absolutely delicious . Undecided what to drink ...and the manager ( I believe ) recommended a fruity cider again surprised just how much I enjoyed it . Thank you The staff are a really credit to the place extremely polite and friendly and they go above and beyond to make you feel very welcome . Compliments to the chef ....if we are down that way again....you bet we are heading to this pub 😁 You will be added as a hidden gem to find on my Tik Tok ..... It's a MUST DINE HERE . Thank you all on that very night that made a brilliant day turn into a brilliant evening . we were to full to have desserts , however we did and both of us left the plate clean presentation of the food was outstanding and scrumptious . Dog friendly , even dog beds and biscuits ....how adorable your not restricted if you own an animal ...albeit ours never came . 5 star all round can not fault it Lovely place on the sea front fantastic staff delicious food ...keep up the excellent work and be proud . Had food here this evening and was underwhelmed . For the cost we thought the food was average at its best. My husband had fish tail scampi but it was more breaded frozen scampi and his peas were microwaved. The burger was tasteless and chips greasy/soggy. I’ve had decent experiences in the Old Success over the years so shame to leave a negative review but the service and attention to detail was sorely lacking on this visit. We were early for our booking @5 so checked in and sat in an empty dining room with large groups of flies flying around the lights. I would suggest these flies are dealt with before opening the restaurant? We eventually got a drinks (busy bar and changing shifts) not a big deal. But then considering we were an hour early we were then abandoned till 5:30 except for our booking to be repeatedly questioned which made us feel unwelcome. Food was already being served to other parties even though we had obviously been waiting the longest. In the end we walked out and went and got fish and chips which was a relief. Staff seemed nice enough as individuals but very disorganised with poor communication and no attempt at making us feel cared for or valued for our custom. I appreciate the pub has the footfall to not need to particularly care for individual bookings but it’s just an experience I won’t repeat.

Mains were perfectly nice- nothing remarkable, but better than the average pub grub. As a starter we shared the focaccia and olives which resembled sliced sandwich bread, for £9. Service was friendly but otherwise poor. Didn’t seem to be overly busy- certainly our waitress always found time to chill at the bar or look at her phone, but on multiple occasions forgot things- tap water, the one bottle of wine we ordered to share, etc. All while another member of staff seemed to be run off his feet- hosting, dealing with complaints, rushing around to clear tables. Not a great look, and we hope the tip we left was shared! Food took over an hour with no mention beforehand of a wait.

We have eaten here twice now, once for a lunch service sitting outside and the second for dinner service seated inside. We have no complaints about lunch service, service was quick, and food was fabulous. Dinner service, however, had its flaws. There was essentially no service, I think there needs to be decisions made about people's roles in the team, I.e if you are waiting on a table you are not also running food, clearing tables and pouring drinks behind the bar. Our starters and mains were fabulous, in particular the squid, padron peppers, lemon sole (fair warning you have to debone this yourself, no issue for us but worth noting) and the burgers. Wait for drinks was long, at one point a member of our party had to go along and ask them to make them, it seems the drinks orders from seated tables were getting ignored so as to quicker serve walk ins. The issues began at dessert. After about a 30-minute wait, we finally called our waiter over to order desserts. He was frankly shocked by this as though he couldn't understand why we had asked him. When we finally got to order two of the desserts we wanted were no longer available. The sticky toffee pudding was apparantly exceptional, all three of us who ordered it loved it. I ordered the Strawberry Crem Pat tart, now I'm no culinary expert but there was no strawberry in the tart, only served on the side which was strange but I just put it on the tart, the real issue was the crem pat which was liquid, like it sloshed in the casing when the waiter brought it over, I couldve drunk it with a straw. The staff did have the good grace to look horrified when we told them as we paid, retrospectively I wish we had sent it back but by that point I was so desperate to just have a dessert I couldn't bear to wait. Overall, the quality of ingredients was high, and the mains were good, but desserts suffered, and service was below par. I truly believe this is not through the fault of the servers but that it seemed a little disorganised on a staff management end.

Me and my friend came in for a drink. Just sat down on a table around 3.30ish and was chatting and a member of staff plonked a reserve sign on the table at 3.40 for 3.45 so someone could watch the football match. We asked another member of staff what was going on as we were already sat here. They just said "this is basically how it works here" were actually from Penzance and we came over just to have a break and we found this rather rude. Were we suddenly expected to move tables? No one said to us at the bar about this as we've never been in this pub before. Unfortunately due to the lack of understanding from some of the staff and feeling like we aren't welcome in this pub. We won't be coming back. Also the lad behind the bar said they weren't serving food so we said fair enough but after we questioned him about the table, we said about food but he already said they weren't doing food at that time. I feel like the management or St Austell Brewery needs to have a conversation with the staff about this and not make the local people feel like they aren't welcome in a pub that relies on them in the winter months. Like I said, me and my friend aren't happy and won't return.

The maitre de, was wonderful and helped us get a table in the bar rather than restaurant, as we wanted to be in there for quiz after our meal. The negative related to one barman who visibly avoided serving at the bar and on odd occasion he did was painfully slow at serving people. Have been to the Old Success many times over the years and sadly its has not got better in fact its gone downhill, now smacks of being part of chain with everything food wise is bought in bulk. Staff uninviting, little engagement and if there is it seems like hard work. Was a very welcoming place to go but now just too impersonal, you feel as though you are on a conveyor belt. Had an evening meal "Prosciutto-wrapped chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms & mozzarella. Served with crispy polenta cake, wilted kale and a wild mushroom sauce". Chicken breast (whole) wrapped in prosciutto, a bit dry, polenta cake was hard, dry and to be honest you could broken a window if you had thrown it a one......we sent it back. In the interim we were looking at other food being served and would not say they looked fresh, my local fish and chip serves up better. Anyway, same chicken meal returns, this time the same chicken had been cut into sections ("to make it cook quicker") and was certainly the same chicken served previously, the polenta wasn't looking much better. After a brief chat with the manager who tried to explain it was all fresh when it clearly wasn't, we left. Having spent many times at the pub over the years this will be our last, might pop in for a beer but definitely no food.

I can't recommend enough and will definitely stay again if we get the opportunity.

We visited June 20th and had a fantastic time staying at possibly the best beach front Inn In Cornwall. The location is second to none. It was my first visit since COVID and what a change. The rooms have had an amazing upgrade and all the staff absolutely know their stuff. It was a pleasure. Thank you.

Just back from a very pleasant evening here. Food was great, staff were polite and engaging and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

Cozy guesthouse in a unique location, right by the sea. Modern new rooms in the new left part of the building. Very friendly staff. Delicious food and breakfast. One of the best Inn's on our SWCP hike. Recommended!

We were quite disappointed with our meal here, to begin with we were put on a table where the larger of our 2 dogs (chocolate labrador)had nowhere to settle that didn’t put her in the way of people walking by. Not a good start considering we had booked a dog friendly table. Then when our drinks arrived my daughters Mocha was barely lukewarm, we then waited almost an hour for food having been told the gas was being changed….we were having a roast on a Sunday and numerous people had already been served so surely the roast should already be cooked???. Also roast pork with no applesauce and nowhere near enough gravy. The Yorkshire pudding looked great but was yet again cold. The cauliflower cheese wasn’t cooked enough either and was hard. Hate to give a poor review like this but for £86 (including first round of drinks while we were waiting) for 3 of us just for a main course I was not impressed. Trying to be something it isn’t.

Very nice place. Nice selection of Food and Drinks. The service was rather slow. Long wait for food. When it did arrive we had to wait awhile for a fork in order to eat the food.

This is by far, our favourite pub in the entirety of the UK. Good food, good selection of drinks, super friendly staff and of course, the best location! Ate here several times over previous years, however this year we committed to a roast dinner, and stayed in one of the annex building rooms for the first time. Note: As someone with a relatively strong dust allergy the Down duvet and pillows did cause a flare up, but we brought in our own pillows/duvet as we were camping anyway. Food: for the roast dinner, absolutely cracking portion size and really good quality meat. One of the best you’ll get from any pub. Only complaint was service was a little slow, this applies to breakfast too. Breakfast options were generally great, however “off menu requests” seemed to be somewhat ignored by the kitchen, two different mornings one of us requested a substitute on the full English, which was adhered too (minor thing!) Accommodation: really beautiful rooms, we stayed for our 1-year wedding anniversary and were treated to a card and signs in the room when we checked in, in addition the man I checked in with brought us up two small bottles of Prosecco after we checked in. Really solid service! The view was obviously cracking too. Summary: highly recommended, would 100% both stay and visit again!

Beautiful view from pub. However, ignored at bar when first arrived by manager even though he was free. Food took over an hour to come. One of the bar men was very helpful and helped us move table to one with a view. The manager scolded a colleague in view of the guests which was really awkward. Basically, probably an alright pub but whoever was managing at that point was entirely unpleasant.

Eaten here loads of times before but so disappointing this time I ordered vegan nut roast ( I'm not vegan I ordered as it sounded nice) it was like sand, I had to ask for gravy to soften it, it didn't come with a yourshire pudding or cauliflower cheese which i had asked about when ordereing however they did add that once I had asked about it. Due to the meal not being great they offered a free pudding I orded Eaton mess and it arrived like this!! I've never seen it served in this manner and it looked so un appetising I returned it. The other three people with me all had roast beef but all had items missing from their plate.

When we first got in there nobody came to the bar so we disappeared for half an hour then came back when we did come back and ordered. We found the tables were dirty and sticky. The food was very very average and halfway through a meal we were told that we had half an hour to fish in our food as they had forgotten to reserve the table for someone else , we had to rush and leave without dessert Not much success here I’m sorry to say

I've usually had decent experiences here but last night not so much. Hoped to have a few drinks but didn't stay that long due to such poor service. Mega queue for the bar. Only one person on the bar most of the time and he was unable to clock who was next in the queue. Most of us were politely saying who was next but a couple of girls rudely jumped the queue. Other staff just wandering around not doing much. The poor people who had booked to eat didn't get a look in. Such a shame as is a beautiful pub in a beautiful location. I can only assume they had inexperienced staff on but an apology for the wait would have been nice...

We've spent many years holidaying in St Ives , and eaten in most of the restaurants, this place is now one of our favourites. It can be a bit tricky being gluten free and vegan ...and husband not , to find somewhere that both of us are happy to eat at ! Here fits the bill perfectly. Lots of tasty , fresh dishes to choose from , and incredibly friendly staff. Highly recommend. X

Very nice up market hotel a converted grandhouse. Beautiful. architecture interiors designed to match. It was a very comfortable stay, well appointed room. Lots of parking, does have that "no lift" issue, be aware the upper floors could be a problem. The restaurant was solid, but pretty limited menu. Standard breakfast included, cooked to order. Solid local option.Wi fi secure.

First time we have been here for Sunday Roast. Was a bit dubious. But, I was proved completely wrong. Had the poussin, gorgeous, so were triple cooked toasties, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, glazed carrots, I could go on. Now waiting for creme Brule. Oh, the Juggling Jem cocktail was scrumptious as well. Brilliant atmosphere as well. Well done guys!
