friendly pub, staff, customers. average beer price at the moment is astronomical all up.and down the country, but I'm happy to support the local. pool tables are banging, dartboard looks fun, TVs showing sport and news and a lovely benched courtyard.

This is our local pub. It's a good size, plenty of seating, darts, pool tables, jukebox and regularly has bands on Friday or Saturday nights, plus quiz night on Tuesdays. Beer is great, always a nice pint. Great to have the jukebox, makes a great atmosphere. Best thing is the warm welcome from manager Dave. Really friendly, welcoming and attentive. He makes sure everyone that enters is relaxed and has a good time. Great boozer, wish there were more like this.

Fantastic pub for bands and having a good dance. Lovely fires 🔥 Recently took a work based online meeting before picking kids up from school. Worked really well for that. For note though cold drinks only, no teas or coffees during day. Unfortunately could not bring children in for a J20 after I'd picked them up so note no kids allowed in this pub.

We stayed in st austell for 3 days for a mini trip away, we fancied a pint a night before we went home. First off tried the one most local (carclaze next to premier inn) closed to referb. We then walked 2.5k down the hill to this one. At this point it started to rain and we needed to feed our 2 year old. On entering it went total silent( must be a locals only pub ) and were told we couldnt be served as we had a littleone in the pram. We would have been happy just to feed her and not have a pint ourselves but no, we had to leave. The bar man was polite and said another one nearby but with the rain, time of day and direction to other pub further way. We left very dissapointed. Kinda dampended our stay down this way as if we could have just feed our littleone or stay in from the rain atleast.

A great place to meet up with friends for a catch up. They don't do food which is a plus for this nice little pub. You don't have all that clutter on the tables and you are not dodging waiting staff carrying posts of food. Quite a quiet place where you are not competing with people eating while holding a conversation.

I'm from Bristol and we were on holiday in the St Austell area and went in The Carlyon Arms with family a few years back and we ordered drinks and just minding our own business and some of the locals were staring at us like we had no right being there. Not likely to go in there again after that

We were hosting a painting party and decided we needed a break. This pub is a five minutes walk from our home. Servers were very friendly, helpful and polite, and once we'd got sat on our stools at the bar, they were recommending drinks for us to try (short shots, and our choice!) Really glad we've finally been in to this pub, it's so friendly and you do feel very welcome. I can't comment on food, as I didn't see any menus... hoping they do food when I next go in.

The menu was fairly small but something for everyone and proper pub grub. Big portions and great food. The drinks were also reasonably priced for a st austell brewery pub and staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend and will definately be returning.

The pub seemed to be one of St Austell Beer Companies so we thought it would be of the same quality we have experienced before. Wrong! The general ambience of the pub was not right. When we arrived, we noticed one man puffing away at an e-cigarette – obviously not banned here. Shortly after, another man also was puffing too. Not really our cup of tea. Maybe we should have vacated the pub and walked down to the Duke of Cornwall. Nevertheless, the quality of the Ale dispensed was excellent, although when the food arrived it was a big disappointment. The food was totally bland. Both the Scampi and the Chicken Skewers were totally devoid of any taste or character, and the jacket potatoes were tepid on the outside and red hot on the inside. A giveaway that they had been prepared earlier and not warmed up very expertly in the microwave. Not so bad that you would refuse them but certainly not halfway to saying they were nice. If you want a drink of good real ale stop right here, but Food – go elsewhere.

Myself and a friend stayed for 1 night and we loved it. Our room was just incredible being right on the front and being able to hear the sea and crashing waves was fabulous. We had cocktails with dinner which were made by Cain. We ate at the pub which was delicious. We both had steak and were cooked perfectly. Breakfast was great with lots of selection. The staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Thank you and we will recommend your pub and will definitely be back but for longer.

Based on my experience today I would say AVOID this pub. We ordered lunch and then waited about 50 mins for 2 sandwiches. They clearly forgot what we ordered. I politely questioned when the food would be coming which was met with significant disdain and rudeness. What a shame as the village is seriously beautiful. I’ll avoid and try the restaurant close by next time.

After visiting my home county of Cornwall in Penzance, I wanted what all Cornish men yearn for a real Cornish pasty so I bought one from a shop that has been trading for 20/30 years and what I tasted was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had (total rubbish) disgrace to all Cornish pasties, so the next day I went into the deli called the Cornish Hen and bought another pasty and wow it was the best I’ve ever had in Cornwall so I say to all you people who visit Penzance and want the best pasty going visit the Cornish Hen in Penzance you won’t be disappointed

£7 for a luke warm ciabatta with ice cold mozzerella in lumps with freezing cold tomato. Never again, I have been here 3 or 4 times and it is sadly always the same. Nice brownies, but sadly that is it.
