The Ship should be a great local pub, but sadly nobody can go with dogs. Huge mistake. It shows how lacking they are in being all inclusive. I go to the Pilot who love dogs and even supply dog treats and plenty of water bowls.

Lovely pub, 8:30 Sunday quiz is a pretty late time for a quiz, why so late? NO BABY CHANGE. What is this, the 1930’s? And beer which tasted of the chemical they use to clean the pipes. Distinctly average

Visited with family for lunch, was very busy but service was prompt. Usual pub grub but very expensive compared to other pubs in area. Very poor ploughman's lunch , home cooked bread needed longer in oven and would of been nicer warm , roast potatoes were scarce only 2 each, and along with parsnips needed cooking longer. Neither had much colour. The produce seemed of good quality and food was hot . Deserts were small and expensive at £6.25/£6.50 each . Lovely staff and spotlessly clean venue. Sadly we will not visit again due to the overpriced food.

I'm not sure if the chef has changed, but sadly we won't be visiting again for food. We ordered two x roast dinners. The meagre portion of potatoes were barely brown and definitely not crispy, the parsnips had no colour at all - both needed an extra 20 minutes in the oven. The broccoli was also uncooked. The only thing that was delicious was the cauliflower cheese, which was an added extra. Such a shame, as we have eaten there on numerous occasions and always been satisfied. The staff were lovely though, very friendly and accommodating.

If I could give this lovely place 10 stars I would. My friend had her 70th birthday lunch here today. There was fourteen of us seated in the bright and airy conservatory. As soon as I came in I was welcomed by a very smiley member of staff. Things only got better. The service was very quick, friendly and efficient. All our meals were served at the same time, a feat in itself. The meals were all piping hot and everyone enjoyed the food immensely, clean plates all round and anything anyone couldn't manage was put in a takeaway container, so nothing was wasted. The portions were very generous and very reasonably priced. Top class. I managed to have a quick chat with the Manageress on my way out to say how much we had all enjoyed the food and service. I'm glad I also got to tell the chef too. I would highly recommend The Ship Inn, unlike other pub/restaurants they accommodated a large party of people. My friend said she had called a few places who wouldn't take a party of more than ten. So, if you are looking to book a larger party, don't waste time.. Go here, I'm confident you won't be disappointed. One and only one, drawback is there is no parking, it's permit holders only between 8am and 6pm, every day of the week. I know, because I received a parking ticket on a Sunday in a permit holders only space. My fault, but a bit of a pain as my reasonably priced meal cost me double 😞.

Decided to go here for lunch with my wife and sister today. I suggested to them that “ booking wouldn’t be necessary “. How wrong I was. It was very busy and later I would learn why. Despite it being busy they managed to accommodate us. We all had different starters and main courses and they were all to a very high standard indeed far exceeding what I would expect from a pub ! The building from the front doesn’t welcome you in But the staff certainly do. The service was outstanding even though they were busy. We had to wait about the correct amount of time for our courses and the result was fresh home cooked food of a high restaurant standard. So to conclude 3 x starters. 3 main courses. 2 deserts. Numerous alcoholic and soft drinks. All of very high standard for just £90. To be balanced I need to make one comment that stopped me giving a rating of 5 stars. The gentleman’s toilet were fairly gross. I realise that it was busy, but it’s a must to have good hygiene standards within the hospitality trade. Checks should be thorough and often this should be a given .

I had a notably good dining experience at The Ship Inn this bank holiday Monday. Fantastic latte, two fabulous courses of food, artisan peppermint tea; also what stood out alongside was the quality of the service from the member of staff serving me outside on the patio. Really friendly without being over-bearing, highly attentive without being intrusive - I felt totally looked after and set up for the rest of the day. Lovely atmosphere and dynamics between staff, and between staff and customers, all led by whoever was running the service. Memorable baklava meant things ended on a high note! I'm so glad The Ship was recommended to me. A real unexpected gem. I will be definitely be back there and will recommend to people I know.

The Ship Inn is on Meads Street a relatively short walk from the sea front and the equally good Pilot Inn. However, unlike The Pilot, which is clearly a traditional pub set up albeit more run as a restaurant, the ambience here is totally different. If it’s not busy, your first reaction could be the same as ours that you had walked into a hotel lounge bar, as we initially came here on a quiet Tuesday evening when there was only one other couple in the central bar section and only a couple of tables utilised in the restaurant sections, and it certainly did feel like that. But then we came back to eat here on a Friday evening, and it was a totally different experience. You enter into the main bar section with its collection of bright blue padded seating on a green carpet that leads to the serving bar. Then behind partition walls on either side are the two dining room areas. Then beyond the right-hand section is a sizeable conservatory extension which leads to a decent patio beer garden beyond that. Three of the four pumps were in operation for our visits with Harvey’s Sussex Best and IPA plus Longman Long Blonde. I’d already had a pint of Sussex Best earlier in the day and had tried the Long Blonde in the previous pub, the Pilot Inn, so I went for the Harvey’s IPA. It was ok but not really to my taste. We had noticed the specials board by the bar and decided to go for a couple of deserts in the bar and they were good enough to influence us to return later in the week to eat here. On the return visit to eat I stuck to the Longman Long Blonde and it was as good as it was down the road in the Pilot. By this stage of our stay in Eastbourne we were a bit “chipped Out” so we went for the home made Lasagne which came with garlic bread. And both our dishes were very good. Add into that very good service levels from the lady working our table so I couldn’t find fault with this one. On the Friday evening, with every inside section full to capacity this pub had a nice vibe about it

Ordered the macaroni cheese today. Is was awful. Plain and sticky & grey looking. It did not look as though it had a sauce & definitely did not taste of cheese. Gave it back & ordered a sandwich . The server reported it to the manager, no apology given & the manager made no approach, no refund was offered. 😟 Not impressed with a cafe that I have never had an issue with before & always rated highly.
