Harry Ramsden's - Eastbourne in Eastbourne

Had an afternoon tea here very unusual as it was fish and chips chicken burgers chips curry sauce mushy peas etc. Very different was very nice and hot and had a lovely seaview table would go again got voucher from groupon.

After finishing work and looking for a light lunch whilst walking my dog, i decided to got to Harry Ramsden's, being polite i did not want to enter with my dog, so i opened the door of the empty take away are, and called excuse me , in a polite manor. A male employee was standing at the back, after initially being ignored, i called again, only to hear "WAIT" being very surprised at the responce , i did in fact wait for a while longer ! but was astounded at the absolute rudeness and ignorance of the staff member who clearly needs training in customer services , and lessons in common curtesy and manners. Walked off and purchased something from a near by food outlet. And will never set foot in that place again, after reading some of the other reviews, he probable did me favour !

Eastbourne, East Sussex. Takeaway order area needs redecoration. Peeling wallpaper, grubby doormats & floor litter, not a good look. Food good, but pricey. Service & staff good. Decor let's it down!

Never find this outlet to be anything special. Staff pretty average, restaurant average and takeaway area is a bog standard fish and chip shop. To me Harry Ramsden is a name which is suppose to mean a high standard Fish and Chip restaurant which I think it fails to be. If you are a vegetarian stay away, they cook using a beef fat. A sign states trialing beef fat until 31st August but we are two months further on and one would presume the trial is over - unfortunately, they are continuing with this method; a sign outside does state this but you can't read the sign when approaching the shop from both directions. The menu is confusing as it mentions V suitable for vegetarians but no items are ticked. Even pescatarians can't enjoy chips with their fish at Harry Ramsden's. We went to Qualisea in the same road and could get our vegetarian requirements sorted there. Harry Ramsden's you could do so much better.

No criticism of staff, but food very poor. Chips soggy. Peas in a pot with excess water. Overly expensive for what was provided.

2024 October, Lady, nice welcome. I was told a 20-minute wait for food , but about 35 to 40 minutes. Wait. Look like they needed more staff , as no one came to the table to take our order, so we went and ordered from the counter. Sold out of chicken burger, Fish nice but lacks flavour, 3 star. Fish cakes lovely. 4 star. Chips ok 3 star. If the main came quicker, would have had a desert and more drinks. So, they lost out on us spending more. Don't understand why they don't sell bottle ales , like London pride , old crafty hen , local Harvey's bootle ales. So only get a 3 🌟 3 years ago, review, Fish nice but lack real flavour and batter was good , Chips not best I have eaten. World famous but not world class. But get a 3 stars from me. Focus on staffing , not saying not friendly but only a 3 star at best. Fish 4 out 5, Chips 3 out 5, Staff 3 out 5.

Tried the takeaway and the fish and chips were excellent. Fresh, crispy and delicious.

Visited today with family and have to admit I was quite surprised how nice the food was. Has been quite some time since I last ate at a Harry Ramsden. Maybe 30 odd years. Overall was enjoyable. Price vs portion size is a little steep, but I guess times have changed?

Poor service and poor fish and chips - not what is expected from a strong name in the field. Very disappointed, will never eat at one of their outlets again.

Visited for a evening meal didn’t have to wait as table was free straight away. However, after ordering waited 45 mins for food to arrive, this is generally okay if told of wait but we were just left sitting there. We were not the only ones, one couple complained as they only had ten mins left on parking meter before finally getting meal and having to shovel it down!. Having said that when the food arrived was hot and very tasty. On asking for the bill at the bar the waiter said he would bring but continued to dry glasses! So went up to pay myself. I think the waiting staff were all youngsters so we’re extremely laid back, I would have understood if the restaurant was busy but it was not. Maybe a more mature maitre D is needed.

Great fish and chips cooked in beef dripping and the over 60 menu is great value

No vegetarian options at all, even the chips are cooked in beef drippings...

We walk into this place and get seated almost immediately, that's good. We have to wait 10 minutes to get served. This could have been less but we checked the online ordering, and a bbq chicken burger wasn't there so we had to wait. As we finally get waited we get informed the bbq chicken burger isn't available which is fair enough. So I order the chicken mushroom pie. Like 10 minutes later we get informed that Isn't available so I order a battered sausage. About 30 minutes later, we get our food which is very average, the gravy was extremely powdery but everything else was OK. Then it took about 15 minutes to get the bill. Although the toilets were small they were pretty cool and clean.

Very bad experience, service really bad waited over an hour for our dinner when it came they was likr ooo it here now , did not ask how meal was, staff would rather Stsnd chatting on there phone I want take this matter hire please can sone one email Me

we had the 60 + menu was more than enough for us good value we both had the Cod very tasty, would recommend yes it was busy as the Eastbourne Airshow was on got a seat straight away and was served by the lovely Taylor

Could not eat here. Everything is now cooked in beef dripping, even the vegetarian burger.

It's really the best Fish and Chips

Sadly very disappointing, firstly given a huge menu but loads of the things printed were unavailable, ordered via QR code, because waiting staff seemed very slow. Ended up with fish bites, chips and peas. Fish was actually pretty nice but the chips were awful. Seems they have changed to frying in beef dripping which has ruined the chips which were too solid. The use of beef dripping was not clear, posters on the table had a mock newspaper article with headline "why are we considering a return to beef dripping" .. which suggests they are thinking not actually doing. Left most of my chips. Won't be going again. Real shame as it used to be very tasty and I would get several portions over the course of the summer.

Vegetarians and vegans or anyone who hates the smell and taste of beef dripping fried foods do not eat here. There is no clear signage to warn customers they have changed from vegetable or rapeseed oil. Why the change?! I wonder if it’s to do with an increase in oil prices but there’s no disputing that chips taste cleaner and better not cooked in beef dripping. Save it for roast potatoes Eastbourne!!

A friend and myself went to this Fish and Chip shop for lunch. From walking in the door to leaving the experience was a disaster…. Stood at the desk waiting for about 5 minutes for a member of staff to come and show us to a table, he went away and we read the menu and tried to catch the attention of a staff member to place our order, this took about 10 minutes. We placed our order of 1x small haddock, chips and mushy peas and 1x medium haddock with mushy peas, plus a half pint of lager and a medium black coffee. The guy took the order and after about 5 minutes a young girl came with the lager, after a further 10 minute wait and no coffee, I had to tell the guy that I hadn’t got my coffee, he went away and came back and said that it was on its way!! After another 1 minute wait I told this guy that I still hadn’t got my coffee, this time no apologies he went and reordered it, it finally came at the same time as the fish and chips, which turned out to be small portions of COD, not HADDOCK, I know this as I was a Deepsea Fisherman for 5 years…. The staff were all young people most just wondering about aimlessly, not seeming to be doing a great deal!! SERVICE - 0 out of 10 MEAL - 1 out of 10 Overall a total disappointment, won’t be using this outlet again….. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Considerably udercooked chips, bland fish, overpriced, all the servers where inexperienced 16 year old girls. Will not go again. Complete waste of money.

Visited today to get some chips but walked back out again when we saw that you are considering using beef dripping. This will not only alienate a load of your customers, but it also is not a sustainable choice and adds more suffering to sentiment beings. We won’t be returning.

⚠️ VEGGIES AND VEGANS AVOID ⚠️ Unfortunately, having bought great chips here in the past, Harry Ramsden’s are leaning on ‘tradition’ to potentially bring in beef dripping to their recipe’s again according to their in-store posters. However, according to their website “Whilst the original Harry Ramsden's did indeed fry in beef dripping, we have long since moved over to vegetable oil in order to make our food more accessible to a wider range of dietary needs.” Feeling somewhat alienated… Move forwards, not backwards 😅

Got takeaway fish n chips and had to wait 20 minutes to come, when there was only 3 orders in front of me. They were taking the chips out into the cardboard trays then to the heated zone, when the fish took another 10 minutes. They also poured the curry sauce into the tub 15 minutes before the order was ready? Chips not crispy just top off the whole experience

What started out as nice lunch with my daughter we was seated quickly and server came over within 5 min to tale order food was good the worst experience was after asking for the bill waiting 20 minutes after asking numerous times to actually pay and that was only brlecause I went to them and said I would like to pay all you get is oh sorry

We arrived in Eastbourne with nothing booked for lunch, having brought a party of our elderly clients for the day from Old Coulsdon, Surrey for the day. Bit silly I know! We were a party of 17 and after speaking with Liam at Harry Ramsdens he immediately set about getting tables together and accommodating us. We had clients in wheelchairs, some using walkers and he completely took care of putting the said wheelchairs and wheelies somewhere where they would be safely out of the way. He especially, couldn’t have been more helpful, as were all the staff. Whatever we needed was not a problem. Food was excellent , service was excellent, 5stars is not enough, should be double or more. Liam you were above and beyond. Thank-you so much. You made a lot of elderly people very happy. Many thanks.

Today I decided to try the resturant..was told by server that you couldn't eat inside as the toilet was blocked. But you could eat outside. As I'm.a diabetic and needed to eat I took the chance. 2 minutes after receiving my meal a seagull.came down took my fish. Male server came running out telling me not to feed the seagulls..explained I hadn't. Wasn't even compensated. Under the rules of health and safety they shouldn't of been open anyway. The bit of food I did get was nice.

Clean, welcoming restaurant. All staff we encountered were friendly and attentive. Service was good considering it was a very busy dinner service. Curry sauce was the best I have ever had,onion rings were spot on. Fish was tasty, white and flaky, all food was hot. Batter had no crispyness, chips were soft but OK. Will visit again to try something else on the menu.

Disappointed as was looking forward to a decent fish supper. Sadly food arrived 40 mins after ordering and was warm rather than hot. The fish batter and chips were greasy and not crisp at all. Staff clearly working hard but seemed disorganised. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

I go here once or twice a week .my friend I go with is vegetarian. Always good food lovely place and staff.after we had eaten yesterday we noticed.a sign on the table after reading it .we thought they are thinking of changing to cooking with beef dripping. But it seems its already started.my concern is .this is not marked on menu so infact un less you have vegetarian pie and mash..you are infact eating food including vegetarian option.veggy sausage ect.and of course the chips.which if infact you had a allergy to the beef product.could make you ill.we will not be eating here at the moment

The decision to exclusively use beef dripping meant that my vegetarian family had few options. We left to eat elsewhere.

Take away fish and chips to eat on the sea front. Really nice scampi and chicken nuggets, chips were nice but went cold quickly - can't be helped and the seagulls stayed at bay 😆

Harry’s was a refreshing place to grab fish and chips on the sea front with a lovely view of the ocean across the street if you sit outside. My friends and I all ordered regular size, two haddock and one cod, and each were well fried with crispy batter and a good size to leave you stuffed. Great stop on the beachfront!

My wife and I had the special deal for the over 60’s. For £10-69 you get a small portion of fish and chips together with a slice of lemon and a container of tartare sauce. There is a choice of tea or coffee, followed by an ice cream dessert. The fish and chips were hot and well cooked. The coffee and tea were also hot, unlike some cafes/restaurants where the drinks are lukewarm. The service was excellent. Jude who took our order was professional, friendly and polite. He is a credit to the company. If he maintains this high standard of customer service he has a bright future.

I have been to the Harry Ramsden’s in Eastbourne twice now. Their locations are always close to the water so you get good views and it’s very convenient. Their food is very tasty. Definitely one of my top places for some fish and chips.

Food was excellent, service was first rate with cheery up beet waiter. Was early when we last visited so can't really comment on atmosphere but it was a pleasant experience. Always make this my first choice when eating out when visiting Eastbourne.

You'll have to order online, they do take orders as well. It's much quicker to order online. Good prices and the food was okay, chips could have been crispier the haddock was flavourful, but the mushy peas were so hot I burned the roof of my mouth. Tartar sauce okay not the best. Service is good and quick. Pie was also nice. Costed £30 for 2 people, for dine in its pretty good.

It's not bad for fish n chips . Service is a little bit slow, and the boys' waiting tables seem to be friendlier . They don't do a children drink separately from the child's meal deal, which is totally unacceptable to have to order it to come in a glass and not a plastic cup. And pay for an adult drink ..

Fantastic place yo eat, i dined outside, and had plaice chips n mushy peas last week, and a 3 large cup pot of tea. £17.50 , worth every penny, and Annie my server was super friendly and professional.

I ordered a battered jumbo sausage and chips. I was given 2 x jumbo sausages to my surprise! Definitely good value 👌🏽

Amazing service from Liam, Annie & Victoria. This is without a doubt the best fish & chips restaurant on the whole of the south coast of England. The fish tastes incredibly fresh, like it was straight out of the ocean. Portions are a good size and the staff are incredible, the service was 10/10 and they catered for all of our needs. There is no way I’d ever eat anywhere else, highly recommend!

Great choice of venue for a traditional fish & chips meal, with mushy peas, bread & butter and a hot drink included in the 'Sailor's Surprise' offer - which provides excellent value for money, all in all. This restaurant is situated on Eastbourne's promenade, about a 5 mins walk away from the town's Pier. Ample indoor seating, with table service offered by friendly & accommodating staff. What's there not to like! Well worth the visit.

We're from Hertford and came down to Eastbourne Harry Ramsden's as we had an afternoon tea voucher. The food was really nice with a fish cake, fish burger, battered sausage, battered pickles, chips (they were okay) and onion rings. So a good selection, albeit we would have liked a little more fish. Our desserts were battered banana, bread pudding and a biscuit biscuit, with custard and biscuits sauce - extremely delicious, albeit a lot of batter by this point! 😂 Atmosphere was good, vibrant and busy. The service was great, Annie, our server, was very polite and attentive, she was great. Only thing would've been being told what was what as we overheard another table get that (thankfully I eat everything anyway 😂). Great experience, we'd highly recommend the afternoon tea. 4.5/5

Cod was decent, chips are below average. No mayonnaise on table.. bit cheap of them. They are a bit on the pricier side yet offering is below average! Not sure how they call themselves "famous".

Visited today for the first time for some takeaway chips. So many chip shops do not serve decent chips. Farid served us and was professional, friendly and very helpful. The chips were cooked fresh while we waited and were perfect. If the chips are anything to go by I imagine the fish would not be disappointing. Would definitely recommend.

Our second time eating here in the last couple of years on our first visit was ate in but this time we had takeaway, and I must say we both enjoyed our freshly cooked fish and chips. The Man who cooked the meal was friendly and helpful and service was quick.

I went there after work to have something to eat. The waitress took my order. I waited and after 45 minutes I asked why my food had not come, the waitress forgot to put the order through to the kitchen. I would not mind, but there were only 7 customers in the restaurant

Haddock delicious. Two staff only meant long delays to be seated long delay for order to be taken, long delay for meal to arrive. Staff were run off their feet , however, they were both helpful kind and apologetic.

Fish and chips were really good. I didn't like the mushy peas, they tasted.. Not like peas.. The gravy was really good but the mashed potatoes had crispy pieces inside.

I've been here twice recently - once for takeaway and once for a sit down meal. Food was excellent both times, with a light crispy batter on my fish. Service was also good and polite, even though they were very busy. If buying takeay, watch out for seagulls nearby. They stole half my fish in a flash.
