The Ship Inn in Plymouth

First time visiting with my wife for our monthly meal. Food was really well cooked and the service was excellent. Will definitely be going back with friends.

The best "pub" food we have experienced in the area! Whoever modernised this old inn should be congratulated on achieving a light, cosy and very attractive environment, still retaining a sense of an old hostelry but a smart dining experience - without being stuffy. The colours are soft, a wood burner flickers, the furniture is comfortable (-something that is surprisingly not always the case), the menu has plenty of variety and a sense of a treat without being too fancy and the welcome is warm. We all agreed that this place has "got it right!" A very enjoyable lunch to celebrate my mother's 80th and we would definitely recommend it.

Another good meal at the Ship in Ugborough, had the roast beef which was lovely.

What a fabulous evening we had at The Ship! We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday and had the most delicious meal. The steaks were perfectly cooked; my husband had a dover sole which was incredible value and my daughter had a rich and creamy prawn and scallops gratin. The kids had puddings and the sticky toffee pudding was sublime - the best STP she has ever tasted! Service was very friendly and efficient! Highly recommended!

We use this pub now and again, as it’s relatively near to home and over the years has been a reliably good venue for a good meal. Last night’s meal with family was exceptional. All of us were most impressed. Thank you.

We went for lunch last week, it was so disappointing. Food very average and also the waiting staff had no finesse. We had an average meal at The Ship about 5 weeks ago but thought we would give it another try to see if we were unlucky, sadly no improvement at all. Such a shame.

Fully recommend the ship Inn first time dining with friends. Every mouthful down to the last was amazing we had a lovely evening. Thank you.

First visit to The Ship. Fantastic evening meal and great calm atmosphere. The location is also beautiful. Sincere thanks to Pete who recommended the Sea Bass with his own creative twist including a sauce. It was the very best Sea Bass I’ve ever had ( I like Sea Bass ). Talented chef for sure. Amazing lunch at the Ship today, the new chef is stepping up to the mark with some FAB dishes. My Sea Bass was fresh and very tasty, my other half had Monk fish linguini in a lovely sauce. Previous visits over the last month or so included homemade beef and ale suit pudding and a very good belly pork. Will definitely be back in a few weeks.

Friendly staff. Dog Friendly Bar. Food is Amazing. Great Atmosphere. Plenty of space to spread out. Very accommodating. Pretty young waitresses. Prices good for the standard and quality.

Spacious, traditional 3-bed room, bathroom with shower! Clean and comfortably furnished. Service was nice and friendly. Full English breakfast and vegetarian breakfast was delicious. Cornflakes, yoghurt, juices, coffee or tea could be added. Highly recommended for one night.

Visited the ship twice whilst staying at the anchor inn in the same village . Fantastic service , food and atmosphere. Could not fault anything and the staff on both nights were exceptional.

Wow!!! Haven't visited here for a while but sooo glad we did! The food was stunning, service impeccable and other businesses in the South hams could learn a thing or two about offering decent homemade, imaginative, quality food at a fair price. The chef obviously knows their stuff. Meal was beautifully balanced. The menu choices were imaginative and enticing. The service was attentive and prompt in a full pub. You've restored our faith in finding somewhere that offers such great quality.

We had a great dinner in this comfortable pub. The menu is varied but not too large (great fish and desserts); the tables aren’t too tightly squashed together; the service is friendly and attentive. A lovely meal.

Booked a birthday dinner with a group of eight following a recommendation and The Ship gave us a wonderful evening. The food, range of wines and service were all excellent. We all chose different items from the menu and everyone was very happy with their choice. The meal was delicious and memorable. We'd definitely go back and would look forward to it too. Easy parking, lovely atmosphere on a Friday night and helpful staff. A great venue all round.

Lovely Sunday lunch, great staff, food and ambience. Always enjoy our outings to the Ship.

Since moving to the area last year, this was our 6th visit to The Ship Inn. Parking was easier than we expected, and the greeting was excellent. The restaurant area seems very large, going off into a far room. Tables aren't crammed in and vary in size. The menu was good and varied. The Sunday Roast fayre us exceptional in quality and £18.95 each. We have been there for supper too. I had a pint of Dartmoor IPA and my wife had a Diet Coke. I recall the bill came to around £90 for 3 of us but given the difficulties for pubs, the taste and quality of the food was well worth it.

Interesting menu. All three of us had different things,everything was good. Enjoyed the junket.

Excellent Sunday roasts. Always top class food and service. One of our favourite places.

We met up with friends from Hampshire and their Canadian visitors and enjoyed a delicious, relaxed meal in comfortable surroundings. The Scotch egg was pronounced a success, and we chose a variety of main courses. The fishcakes were delicious but maybe a bit more crab would have made them even better. Then the Peanut curry was a pleasant twist on the norm, and hugely enjoyed. Other mains were the chicken supreme, gammon and haddock and the empty plates a testament to their quality. Two puddings and coffee finished off what was a lovely evening. Many thanks to the staff and chef. Only issue was that we couldn’t tip on our cards and only a couple of us had cash for a tip. We would have been very happy to add to our bill to say thanks for a good evening.

Food was good but the service was slow and confused. As we were waiting for our main course they brought our starters for a second time!

Beautiful food and excellent service, the venison dish was divine. I last minute booked this table in a bit of a panic (because I was in charge of booking an early meal en route to a theatre date in Plymouth and everywhere I tried was full...) But I could take full glory for finding an absolute gem of a meal in a lovely pub. Thank you for rescuing dinner and impressing my date with an excellent choice of venue by me! Would definitely recommend.

Excellent, great food great service.

Absolutely stunning spot in the village. We were a walk in on a Sunday. We had a delicious Sunday Roast, Beef cooked medium-rare (perfectly!!) & Pork with crackling. Followed by a generous sticky toffee pudding. Such a friendly and relaxed environment (I believe we sat in the snug) lovely characterful building but with beautiful lighting too. Dog friendly which is a bonus. Will definitely recommend and be back again in the future! ☺️

I called in with a group of 15 cyclists, with a booking, on a cold and rainy February lunchtime. There was a roaring fire, a good menu, great choice of beer and cider on tap, and excellent food and service. Would happily come back, and will.

Really lovely food served by friendly and helpful staff. A great place to get a quality meal although quite a formal place for dining. Brilliant choices on the menu, dishes which would appeal to everybody. I had the soup which was rich and tasty and served with top quality sourdough bread. My friend had the suet pudding whoch looked amazing and was a great sized portion.

Every time I come down to Devon to see my Mum we always come to the Ship. Great food great service just wonderful all round. 10/10

Not many prawns in prawn cocktail but lots of lettuce. Beef tough & gravy not very tasty. Certainly not worth the £30 paid. Asked for coffee after meal & told they were closing in twenty minutes because they 'all had to be somewhere'! They were not particularly apologetic about any of it!

Been to the Ship Inn Ugborough many times, good welcome and attention by Paul and staff. Had mussels to start, excellent, then the lamb shank, lamb shank was ok but the vegetables & fondant potatoes seemed like they had been re-warmed, not so good.

Simply amazing. The staff are wonderful and friendly, not to mention the food which was some of the most amazing food we've ever had. No complaints about the food, truly compliments to the chefs. If you're looking for food in the area, this is the place to go.

Lovely rural pub serving fantastic food

Lovely lunch, but choice for a lighter meal was limited

Despite living about 2 miles away, we'd never actually been to the Ship Inn even though we'd been recommended it several times. So when family came to visit us, we took the opportunity and went. It's a lovely setting, in the village square, with a nice church opposite. We were spoilt for choice with the menu. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law both saying they could eat everything on the menu and were having a hard time picking. To cut a long story short, they both commented that the food was the "best they had EVER eaten anywhere" and that's quite high praise from a 60yo and a 85yo who have eaten at their fair share of places in their lifetime. Suffice to say, we'll be back.

Booked on off chance after helping at Ugborough fair the food was fantastic and the service from all staff was absolutely brilliant especially Paul will definitely be back.

Great looking pub. All the staff were helpful, professional and friendly. The food WAS REALLY good. My confit of duck with kale and fondant potatoes was lush as was my starter of melted brie in rosemary infused breadcrumbs served with a chorizo and tomato chutney was very moreish. Unfortunately I was too full for a pudding but the ones coming out of the kitchen looked very tasty. Reasonably priced especially considering the quality. A lovely evening all round. I will definitely be going back there.

Lovely pub we stumbled across while we were down in the area for a wedding at Dunwell Farm. The owner was lovely and the food was really really good. Dog friendly too!

Loved our visit to The Ship Inn. Called in on our return from Milton Sands for a meal. The staff were very friendly and accommodated the three of us + our dog. A high quality, reasonably priced pub and probably the best meal I've had in ages. Dog friendly & well worth a visit. Lovely rural village setting.

Excellent menu, wine list, beer selection and service, and they allow dogs in the bar which could pass as most pubs restaurant. Tucked away in the picturesque village of Ugborough, this was a gem of a find, unfortunately we found it on the last night of our holiday. We would definitely recommend to friends visiting the area.
