The Ship Inn in New Forest

Enjoyed a perfect lunch for a group of 9 friends & were very well looked after by Martha & Freddie. We all enjoyed very good food & service. Thankyou

This was a special anniversary dinner and it was absolutely fabulous! The food was unbelievably good, each course (and we had 3) was cooked to perfection. The staff were amazing. The young man who served us was endlessly polite and engaging, and the lady who recommended the after dinner cocktails was so friendly and looked after us perfectly. I am running out of superlatives here but cannot recommend enough. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Food and atmosphere was ok but the service was very poor. The barman in particular must have failed the final exam on the personality course. Said hallo to him when we arrived and he totally ignored it. We will not go back.

The food was nice but the starters were a bit disappointing the sqid needed cooking so it was a bit more crispy .and rhe soup portion was on small spoon .when the next table had a full bowl .

Warm welcome. Dogs allowed in bar area. Spacious. Lovely looking restaurant area (we ate in bar as have dog). Also have outside space with nice view. Pub nicely furnished. Varied menu. Reasonable priced. Enjoyed our meal. No complaints. We shall return.

Told to download the app so we could order. No Internet available so we couldn't. No other option so we left and went elsewhere for dinner. Seems a very odd business model...

Stuck for dog-friendly options to eat at 8pm on a Sunday evening, so headed to the Ship. Very mediocre food, quite over priced for the quality and got the order wrong - ‘but that was what came through to the kitchen’. A bit grotty but will always be busy due to location

We arrived for Sunday lunch, the waitress quickly said she’d clear the table, she cleared half and said she’d come back, she didn’t. I ordered 2 Line caught Cod and chips, one with normal peas and asked if the table could be cleared. Eventually I asked a passing waitress to do it, she did most and went. We then had to stop another to wipe all the food off the table and she literally just did our side and left the remaining glasses and other side. When the food finally arrived, my wife pealed off the batter from the fish (she’s trying to diet) and without a word of a lie, the amount of Cod hiding in the middle was smaller than my IPhone and about as thick!! The did change it but I couldn’t be bothered with mine as I knew the replacement wouldn’t be much different, it wasn’t. Very disappointed and possibly the worst Fish and chips I’ve ever had! Total waste of money and would not return on another visit

Excellent Sunday lunchtime experience. Food really well presented and cooked perfectly. Vegetable sides were original and just the perfect mix. Desserts were adventurous and delivered 100%. Staff helpful and attentive. Really can hardly fault.

The food was delicious, especially the pan fried rump of lamb, which I highly recommend. The starters arrived fairly quickly, as did desserts and drinks, but the mains took quite awhile! We were not in a rush, nor were we rushed and we’ve both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would highly recommend, as long as you have a bit of time on your hands 😅. Compared to other pubs I thought the prices were a little high however the food was worth it.

We went 2 weeks ago and today also. Today I booked a table of 12 for my daughters 29th birthday... The food- excellent The service - excellent The venue has always been amazing but recently there has been a complete turnaround- under Trevor's leadership the staff are well trained and very capable In particular Emma, who is originally from Brisbane (another favourite place of mine), was our waitresses. She is just amazing and so attentive to the needs of older and younger customers. The best waitresses/ barmaid in Lymington....hard working and easy going. Hopefully The Ship Inn will become a locals place again soon.

Not the best food I’ve had and would have rated it lower but for the excellent service from our waitress. Had belly pork and scallops and whilst the scallops were very well cooked the pork was dry. Steak which was requested medium came out medium rare and not rested for long enough and beef and Malbec pie which was only ok.

Potentially this is a very busy pub being right on the Quay in Lymington. Although there is a public car park right outside the pub, it is quite small and fills up quickly. Parking elsewhere is a bit of a lottery as its in the older part of town. Its a lovely pub and very large inside. With its low ceilings, exposed brickwork and creative lighting, it retains a comfortable ambience despite its modernistic approach to seating. The food is a cut above many of its local competitors and its portion sizes more than adequate. In fact, I would go as far as to say that this is the only time in my life where I have been defeated by a salad (Crispy duck with noodles) and I am a salad gannet. My wife had the sea bass and she was also defeated by the side of the plate, so go in hungry. The quality of the staff also deserve a special mention. Very young, very friendly, well trained, very efficient and attentive. We could not fault them. Mind you, at 6:30pm on a Wednesday, it was pretty quiet, so that would help. They are obviously geared up for the masses. So why not five pips. The place was quite cold and being sat by a window (which turned out to be single glazed) which incidentally, I had requested ,did not help. The skirting radiator by my feet was off as well.

Food was nice but I was telling a story to my dad and his partner and I may have swore once. The woman behind the bar reacted by signalling to my dad's partner by putting her finger over her mouth suggesting that she should tell me to be quiet. I found this very offensive and unprofessional. She should have come to me and asked me to lower my voice if she was so bothered. She treated me like a 5 year old even though I'm 37 and probably older than her. We were all unhappy with what happened and felt it was inappropriate especially as we had all bought lunch. Definitely won't be returning unless this person leaves. We did inform the waitress and she apologetic, but it just goes to show how rude some people. She was obviously some kind of hater.

Lovely delicious plentiful food and good service. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Nicely situated on the quay front. However we wish we’d asked staff to have a word with people sitting near us who were loud, obnoxious and quite honestly lewd in their remarks. Spoilt what otherwise should have been a super evening. We understand this is not the manager’s fault however.

Very friendly service and great for dining as a family. We went there as a family party of 10 and Karen managed to fit us in on one table, despite us booking for another night by mistake! A good variety and quality of food that suited everyone’s preferences.

We were away for the weekend to celebrate my partner’s birthday. I had been in here before, so when we were out looking for somewhere to eat and came across The Ship Inn, we didn’t hesitate to go in and see if they had a table for two, and thankfully they did. We were greeted by the most lovely Australian waitress called Emma. We both decided to have the calves liver and we weren’t disappointed, it was delicious. For dessert my partner had his favourite sticky toffee pudding and I had a trio of mini cheesecakes, both truly scrumptious. Emma just couldn’t do enough for us, I hope her boss reads this because what a fabulous girl, made our evening very enjoyable, I would highly recommend to anyone, both for the food and the service, thank you so much.

Outstanding in every way - the food, service and the ambience. The fish we had was so fresh, I expected it to jump off the plate. Kids loved it too, and they were really looked after. Wonderful!
