Drinks were fine. We ordered 2 burgers at £16.50 each… when they arrived it was like something from school dinners… no cutlery or condiments were bought over with the meal, it was really disappointing. Wouldn’t have minded if it were more like £7.50 but £16.50!! Expected a lot more.

Proper pub. The staff make everyone feel welcome. The inside, outside and inside outside areas are all pleasant. A decent range of drinks. Not the cheapest pub in town, but certainly not the most expensive.

Nice enough pub and staff and a good beer selection. However, the lagers such as Asahi and Peroni are WAY overpriced at £6.40 a pint 🥺. I'm guessing, they are at that price to make their figures stack up. Which is NOT good for customers.

We have only moved into the area recently, but I can honestly say the Staff at The Ship have made us all feel so welcome (now referred to as a regular). The beer selection is second to none. It has the old school feel of a local pub, with live events from football and rugby to comedy and learn to paint nights. New Year’s Day, I did have the unpleasant experience of being threatened by a group of middle age men and women after commenting on there (12 children) taking my seat when I went to the bar. The group and mainly 1 individual were relentless in the need to keep referencing the incident and threatening me. I was on my own and they were a group of 6 adults and children. When I tried to walk away for a 3rd time the main instigator was refused any more alcohol, which led to them starting to shout about favouritism and refusing to leave whilst aiming all his comments at myself. A member of public stepped in and pointed out he had been rude and obnoxious for over an hour and he should leave. The bar staff advised the gentleman to leave and informed him he would no longer be welcome. I was very thankful for the support received by the staff at the ship, and I’m happy to refer to myself (as another reviewer said it) as as REGULAR.

Served me a pint that was off, flat and vinegary. Barman refused to change it for something else, made me pay for a different pint. I have only ever had to send a handful of pints back in my life but have always had it replaced with something else with no fuss. Very disappointing.

I visited with 2 friends. The pub was pleasant, the beer good and the staff friendly. The problem was the food. I ordered Chicken Kiev, which according to the menu comes with mushrooms, spinach and mash. When mine arrived I simply had chicken and mushrooms. I asked the waitress about the mash and spinach and she had to get the kitchen to prepare some. By the time it arrived the chicken was getting cold. Secondly the phrase Chicken Kiev describes a particular dish. I was simply served chicken. There was no garlic butter or anything else. Clearly some work is needed in training the chef to produce the dishes described on the menu!

We partner and I were looking forward to a Bank Holiday pint having booked a table for this weekend beginning of March. When we arrived, the manager on the door offered us the side tables with our backs to everyone in the main marquee - despite some empty tables in the marquee area. The rationale "there's only 2 of you". Fair point, however there were groups of 2s sat at the 6-er tables. So we were reluctantly offered another 2 seater table in the far side patio just under the big umbrella. It was a Bank Holiday, okay at least we can see other people as opposed to our backs to everyone.Interestingly at least 3 other couples turned up and were allocated larger tables. We asked if we could move to another table as the heater wasn't working and were cold. The manager came over and said "aren't we all"! ... Not sure how that comment was relevant? He said that we should be lucky we had a table. To note there were LOADS of empty tables. Then he mentioned that he'd had lots of cancellations when I queried why we couldn't move tables. He said to my partner "you always come in here and complain and are rude to me and my staff". We only moved to Wokingham in June last year and have spent most of the time in lockdown! I think we have been 4 times in total together and my partner came once on his own with no altercations or complaints. The rest of the staff are very hard working and friendly and it is such a shame that the manager seemingly had such a personal gripe with my partner and ruined our afternoon. After acusing my partner of causing problems, he asked us to drink up and leave. The manager I have to say was rude, obnoxious and certainly not customer friendly.

My partner, myself and our big dog decided to make our 1st pub visit since lock down, the Ship Inn was our choice and we are SO pleased it was. As it was such a lovely evening we wanted to sit outside, on entering via the car-park we had to wait to be seated, the staff at the entrance we're very friendly (& funny) and talked us through their procedures, including table service only, the staff will leave drinks on the edge of the table so as not to invade our space, which way to go if the loo is need, disinfecting of tables and chairs after each use, then taking one of our contact details and explaining why, asking if we'd had any symptoms or anyone we've been with in the last 7 days, it sounds a lot but was very quick. We were then shown to our table, there was music playing just loud enough to give a great atmosphere but not too loud that anyone needed to raise their voices, service was efficient and friendly, there was absolutely nothing to fault. We will definitely go back and thoroughly recommend it, particularly to anyone feeling a bit anxious about going out for a drink due to Covid19..

We were refused food because I mentioned my wife had a mild intolerance to wheat / gluten. I explained this was mild and she is able to eat wheat but is just careful about not having too much and symptoms are mild (bit of bloating / feeling uncomfortable). However, staff refused to take our order for anything that had wheat in it according to the allergy book they had. They then started questioning whether things we were ordering were for her and not us i.e. accused us of lying about who would be eating the food. At this point we left without ordering anything. It completely ruined her birthday meal and put a downer on the entire evening. If you are going to have such a ridiculous policy, you should at least have a menu that caters better for intolerances e.g. gluten free burger bun, gluten free batter on fish, gluten free breadcrumbs, it's not difficult if you have a half decent chef. The only thing they offered for her was a curry off the special vegan menu.I understand being careful around allergies where there is a risk of anaphylactic shock, but if it is a mild intolerance, surely the customer can accept responsibility?Needles to say, we will not be back anytime soon.

A very disappointing Sunday roast. Beef of very poor quality, only half per portion was edible, the rest a fatty mess which had to be left. Appreciate this could have been a unlucky bad cut but when I fed back to the staff they said it was an ongoing problem with Fullers and their ordering requirements and affecting Fullers pubs in the area. For £15 a person I would expect a decent cut of meat. No provision whatsoever for children. “We are not a pub for children” so they provide no kids food or reduced size and cost portions. Apparently we could have got a small portion, but for £15 still?! If you say you are not a child friendly pub, then when customers ring in advance to book a table for Sunday lunch and mention “x adults and x children” as we did, it might be worth mentioning that at the time you are not a family friendly pub , since, I quote “you are not a children’s pub so we don’t do children’s food”. Really disappointing for the “community pub of the year” in the area

The service in the Ship Inn also really stands out as being exceptionally good in the bar and for food. I spend 2-3 nights a week in hotels and therefore eat out a lot. If unfortunate to go in when there is a football match on, you will be subjected to it in every facet of the "pub" (including the garden) at a volume that makes normal conversation nigh on impossible, whilst plastic supporters do their pathetic best to out whoop each other whenever they look up from their mobile phones during the game. Not there on my most recent visit, so hopefully changed, but landlord rude and ignorant as well on previous ones. Don't give two hoots about the food. If I wanted to eat, I'd go to a restaurant or if they were available, which they're not, I'd buy a bag of nuts. Nice historic building so shame this is now such an abhorrence and antipathy of the traditional inn. Money is king and it's always busy but not for me thanks. Plenty of other far nicer establishments in the vicinity

I cant say enough good things about this place. We had a party of 8 and everyone ordered the fish and chips with the exception of one of us. They ordered the chicken snitzel. Everyone was very pleased with the food. The service was even better. This is the first place we have eaten where the staff were actually fun to be around

I gooccasionally with local friends on a Friday night. There is pub food and beer with good bar service. A little crowded but that is because it is a good pub!

The parking behind the pub can be tricky if it's full during the rush hour. However, there are plenty of rooms to sit and walk around. I went there when I had my interview for the care homes around the corner from the pub and lovely staff to look after me. Will go there one day for lunch or supper.

My wife and our two young sons went to the Ship for a Father’s Day lunch. We were very well looked after during our meal. We order Pizzas which were very good quality not at all oily or fatty. Perfect pub lunch.

My husband and I stopped here lunch after a long walk and order the special - chicken breast, chips and coleslaw. Well - it wasn't just any old chicken and chips. We asked the waiter what was in the coleslaw that made it taste sooo good. He introduced us to Sriracha sauce. The chicken was lovely as were the chips.

A very pleasant well run cosy pub were the staff always appear welcoming and happy. It does seem pricey even by Fullers standards, which is a shame. The food is excellent. On a recent Friday afternoon visit I had the fish and chip shop platter, fish, scampi, battered sausages and chips. Everything was cooked perfectly and if the accompanying curry sauce was homemade they seriously need to put a curry on the menu.

Fabulous food. Fish and chips lovely. Burger really tasty. Darts. Beer. Football on the telly on a usually boring Monday night. Lovely friendly staff with a larger than life landlord. Best pub in Wokingham

In my view, best boozer in Wokingham as they are a Fullers Ale pub. Friendly, great food, we did eat there during our recent visit. We went to a couple of local pubs in Wokingham which is a great place to do a pub tour with friends and family. Not far from the rail station.

Went here for Christmas Lunch. What a big let down. Sat on plastic chairs uneven tables put together, squashed seating. Food was a, average, not worth £50. per person. Waited 1 hour for our main meal, it wasn't until we asked if there was a problem in the kitchen, did anyone one apologize for the wait. Wasn't the experience we was expecting after reading other reviews. would not recommend this pub for Christmas lunch.

Great pub. Very unusual to get an upmarket pub, that serves good food and beer, that also has lots of screens for watching sport. Was packed with a very friendly crowd, watching England vs Argentina play rugby. Definitely recommend.

This is a well maintained, clean and comfortable accommodation with nicely decorated rooms, great staff, and beautiful flowers outside. I would note that the lighting in the room and bathroom is fairly low and the only outlet in the bathroom is for an electric razor. Also, the bathtub is on the higher side with no grab bars which can be a challenge for those of us who are getting older. There could be more area for storage in the bathroom for personal products. We would definitely recommend this motel and stay there again. There were several options for breakfast and it was delicious and the service was fantastic!

good food nicely prepared and well presented. I've enjoyed their chilli-con-carne twice before, both times spiced up to hot. this evening I had sirloin with a jacket potato. the steak arrived on a sizzler atop a bed of fried peppers, onions & mushrooms and the potatoe arrived with plenty of butter, a comprehensive salad topped with balsamic vinegar and half a grilled tomato. my daughter enjoyed their regular chilli. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu.
