Met some friends here today for a Sunday roast and it was absolutely delicious. Great desserts too. Four very happy, full people. Really cosy, lovely atmosphere.

Please read my review before visiting as I hope this will help you enjoy your experience. This was our first visit to the ship after reading good reviews online. The main pub bar area and main dining area are very nice and cosy, with a lovely atmosphere. We booked a table for eight people. Unfortunately, we were not seated in the main dining area. There is a smaller dining area behind the bar which is where our table was. This area has no atmosphere and is right next to the door to the garden and smoking area and the kitchen. The day we visited was freezing cold outside and a gale was blowing through the old wooden door especially with people coming in and out, so it was a bit nippy. I mentioned this to the waitress and she was very, very helpful and arranged for an extra heater to be brought in. So a five star for atmosphere in the main pub, and for their service. However, I personally found the food very average and nothing special. I was hoping for more going by the reviews but I found the menu fairly basic and the quality and taste of the food very standard, not bad just very average. If you're going to visit the ship, I would definitely recommend booking a table in the main restaurant only and confirm that with your reservation.

Found it very strange and inhospitable to be told there was "something wrong with the kitchen" and they couldn't do "walk-ins" while seeing lots of people eating fresh roasts. On further enquiry told they could only cater for as many people as had booked. If you were able to get a roast today without having to book pray tell.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Ship in Gidea Park, and I can't recommend it highly enough! We visited on a Sunday and were thoroughly impressed with every aspect of our experience. The food was absolutely fantastic. We only had mains, but they were delicious and perfectly prepared. It's clear that the chefs take great pride in their work, as every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The service was equally outstanding. A special shoutout to Sarah, who went above and beyond to ensure our visit was enjoyable. She was attentive, friendly, and incredibly patient with our children, who can be quite a handful at times. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere of The Ship made us feel right at home. We can't wait to return on a weekday to explore the other menu options. If you're looking for a great pub in Gidea Park with excellent food and service (and a nice beer garden), The Ship is definitely the place to go!

Leaving a 1 star review purely because a member of the team was overheard on more than one occasion insinuating that the atmosphere changed when myself and some friends walked in. It's a shame because I actually had a good time in the pub, the DJ and the karaoke singer outside were really good (apologies as I don't know their names) but the atmosphere was really good. But unfortunately because of this comment from a member of the team, which is clearly racist I'm leaving a one star review in the hopes that this woman is spoken to.

I love this place! My Bestest M8 suggested this pub as a venue for a lunch to celebrate my 60th birthday with a few friends and their dogs. My Son is a wheelchair user and was able to navigate quite easily too. The low ceiling beams and open fire were very welcoming. From the off, the staff were extremely helpful efficient & friendly. The other patrons were lovely. The food was lovely. Generous portions. Well cooked and very tasty. My friends were naughty. They'd got me a cake! The whole pub sang Happy Birthday to me. Erkkkk. I had trouble getting a cab home for my son & I. The staff made sure we weren't hassled out to make way for others. Very caring! We are going to visit again. We love it at The Ship. I went for a two course meal of breaded mushrooms which consisted of pretty much breadcrumbs and a Turkish chicken skewer which was excellent. The beer wasn’t the best as flat. What really disappointed me was that the bill automatically included 10% service charge. I didn’t revive great service which is what I usually tip for but had no choice here.

An excellent traditional pub with a great atmosphere, great beer and an imaginative menu, pretty much the complete package. The Ship is in many respects the archetype old English country pub, low (genuine) wooden beamed ceilings with blazing log fires in huge inglenook fireplaces, but conveniently situated only three bus stops from the centre of Romford. Cask ales include Timothy Taylors and a wide range of bottled beers. The food on offer includes some usual pub staples, but is sprinked with more original dishes such as a scallops, bacon and black pudding salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Service was attentive and rapid, so highly recommended.

Not somewhere I would visit again. We went in for a snack and a hot drink as we were early for a funeral. The coffee and the hot chocolate was okay. Two of us had a bacon sandwich, the bacon was so overcooked it was inedible. The tuna sandwich wasnt much better, it looked and tasted very bland. It's a shame as this cafe is situated in a perfect location, but it was just the food that let it down for us.

Myself and a friend went in there yesterday for a cup of tea, my friend noticed the tea was very weak , very cheap T bag , so we asked for another teabag each , they then said we had to pay 70p per tea bag , so won't be going back there again . We worked out that a box of their 40 Teabags is £28.00 As Pensioners we were disappointed No wonder places like that are closing down .
