The Ship in Southwark

This is a long review, so apologies. This could be a good Pub. Just poorly run. Selection on cold bottled beer extremely poor. The Duke of York 4 minutes south and The Trinity 3 minutes north have a better selection, dark and wheat beer in the fridge etc and outdoor seating. If you like beer and want a more enjoyable experience go there. A selection of two cold bottled lagers is poor for a modern pub. Also if you don’t like the live music you are subjected to it is a pretty depressing experience. Also the yellow orange light bulbs make it very dark and depressing inside. Just feel from local knowledge there are better pubs a short distance away. The Trinity has bifold windows, so quite pleasant on a summers day if you looking for a summer’s drink. The Duke of York have four/five tables outside. Trust me there are superior pubs with friendlier staff nearby. The pub did get Wheat beer in for about a week. I tried again one Sunday as they said on the website it was open to 11.00. At 22.15 I was told they were no longer serving drinks. The closing time advertised is not the time they close. No last orders and no warning. Definitely, look at the Duke of York and / or the Trinity or pubs closer to London Bridge. There are better pubs. Trust me I am a Borough / Southwark local. If you are not fussy and don’t care about service use the Ship. Otherwise use another pub!!!! I hope the pub improves; the area could do with another decent pub.

One of the best chicken I've ever eaten in my life. Who think that food in London is not good should eat here. When I will go back in London I'll have dinner here for sure A greeting from Italy. See ya!

Tasty Lebanese food, lovely interior, friendly service.

Thoroughly enjoyable meal, Saturday lunch time, with a selection of hot meze. Really tasty, well cooked food. Had been led to expect a wide choice of cask ales and was initially disappointed to find only two, one of which is not my favourite (London Pride). The alternative, XPA, turned out to be a good beer. So, all good, tasty food and beer, at reasonable prices.

Tried the food once and wasn't really convinced. The rest though is awesome! Really good atmosphere, good beer and sometimes live music in a great "garden". Would definitely recommend! It was our "go to" pub :)

Nice pub, good outdoor area. Good for summer but also covered and heated for winter, big tables.

Popped in fir a quick pint after the theatre across the road. Good selection of beers. Not too expensive and friendly team behind the bar.

A great modern pub which serves fresh Lebanese food either as small plates or main meals. It’s welcoming and they have really raised the space since it was a Fullers Pub. A great job.

Today was my first visit to this pub. The staff were friendly and helpful,and I was pleasantly surprised with the interior and outer design. The Ship has a large selection of beers and also...a large menu of various dishes. I will certainly visit again 👍

Very beautiful pub near London Bridge. The staff was welcoming, friendly and attentive. I love the back garden with the decorative lights and the sheep skin covered benches. Prices were very reasonable too.

*Nope - just not the same* I haven't been here since it closed as a Fullers pub and later reopened as a free house. The refurbishment looks sympathetic from the photographs uploaded to social media, but the mushroom stools that proliferate are probably rather uncomfortable for this middle-aged personage. The outside space, however, looks amazing. I'll pop in next time I'm in the area.

Really nice pub, they should look at getting some non-alcoholic drinks like zero % cider for us tee totallers Lol. Unfortunately didn't get the chance to try the food but the menue looked really nice.

Was one of the few things that was open when we visited over the holidays. Was a much needed break from the day after all of the walking we had been doing. . The beer was cold and the staff was great. Not much more to look for in a pub. We only drank and did not eat.

This place is absolutely gorgeous. Such lovely food, drinks and service. We had such a lovely Sunday here listening to their amazing Irish trad band! We'll definitely be back.

Pub looks great after the refurb but the music is pretty terrible… it’s loud, unavoidable and a bit dated. Shame as the beer garden is lovely!

The Pub recently reopened; which was good news. However, the selection of beer is poor. If you like beer, No cold dark beer, no wheat beer. Just a choice of two bottled lagers. The Trinity, 5 minutes to the North and the Duke of York 3 minutes to the South both have cold bottled dark ale and wheat beer etc. when asked about in the Ship the staff did not even know what it was. Avoid. Not a good pub

I can’t say enough good things about this place. The food was extremely well prepared, flavorful, and well presented. They have a good soundtrack. The beer selection is varied and good quality.

Absolute Empfehlung. Hier werden sowohl Veganer:innen als auch Fleischessende glücklich. Gepaart wird hier tolles Libanesisches Essen mit Britischer Pub Atmosphäre und das macht einfach Freude auf den nächsten Besuch!

The staff were the reason I gave five stars, specifically Rhianna (Rhiannon?) who was the sweetest and most helpful when I spilt a drink all over myself! I seriously have not met someone who would help a stranger like that! The other staff are great too, except Basil. Kidding, Basil was great too. They also had good beer and great outdoor space - I recommend this pub!

Really rude staff! Wouldn’t return, super unhelpful and just not nice people unfortunately. Not even busy and when we tried to order a desert were rudely told by staff ‘where’ and as i tried to explain was told ‘well you can’t expect me to know every table outside we have at least 10’ at which point we ceased to order food. Really no need to be so rude and won’t be returning. Had a roast there too before this interaction and it was pretty average - could have made better ourselves. Roast also took 1 hour to arrive at 5pm with 5 in the restaurant!

It's a basic London boozer. I had an average pint of Fullers, London Pride and we ordered food. It's a West Indian menu and we ate here especially. I wouldn't bother. We both had a less than average meal. I ordered Salt Fish. I'd never eaten West Indian food save for some fantastic Jerk chicken at a Birmingham Christmas Market but the food in the Ship was poor. It was a tasteless sandwich and my wife's was similar. One small piece of bread. £9.50 each. Felt royally ripped off. You have been warned.

Dropped in here after being to Mercato Metropolitana, Really decent pub, great service, good beer and a decent outdoor area. One of the smallest toilets I’ve ever seen.

A proper no frills pub ,why are there so few of them left in London? We were on our way to the Southwark Playhouse just down the road yesterday and stopped in for lunch at about 12:30. It was almost empty when we arrived but packed when we left. They serve good beer, my Knight of the Garter was perfect. The Caribbean food is also good, my wife loved her guava chicken wings (10 of them!) and my lamb roti was full of tender tasty meat, not too spicy. There were plenty of sweet potato chips and fried plantain (this was a little bit chewy). Excellent value and quick service in a busy pub. I will be back to watch some rugby!

Visited for the rugby lions tour, had never been before but will go again definitely. The food was absolutely incredible, so much better than usual pub food. The staff were so friendly and everything arrived so quickly. I even forgot my jacket and they chased me quite far down the street to return it to me which most places wouldn’t have done.

They do not serve food after 20. It’s not written on the app while ordering neither they told you when they seat you. If you ask how is possible they say “oh is on the website”. Very poor customer service.

We have one fussy eater kid and the advertised menu offered variety for all, along with a working online booking system unlike some other places around. After a busy day in London we arrived with tired hungry kids, staff were friendly and COVID restrictions and preparation appeared to be in place. The menu however was restricted to two items - fish and chips or burger and chips, with no kids menu at all. Fortunately our fussy little un was ok for what was on offer. If we were pre-warned on our confirmation or on the pubs website prior to the limited menu we would have changed our plans accordingly. Our order took approximately 45 minutes from order to arrive which seems excessive in light of the limited menu and it wasn’t overly busy either. Although all the staff were friendly there was a lack of PPE being worn by them when serving food which further let down our experience further. If there was a proper menu and the staff had appropriate PPE we would have had such a more positive experience.

Good pub beer was good local traditional fayre well kept beer I liked the barman his name was Jazz I think he said my name when he served me which I thought was a nice touch would go to the old boat again

Really nice pub with good quiet area upstairs only issue I have is the toilet layout is bad.

Five of us met up here, where one of us had been previously. It was clean, very reasonably priced drinks for London and the service was excellent. Not a touristy pub by any means, which isn't a bad thing. Three of us had the haddock and chips and all thought it was very good; likewise the other two thought their meals were also very good, one of whom had the ham, eggs and chips and I can't remember what the fifth had. Great range of Fullers beers. Definitely recommended for a quaint and quiet old pub for a drink with friends.

What a find perfect on a sunny day stopped for a drink stayed hours after a meal brilliant food and a great selection of beers

Arranged to meet friends for drinks at the Ship, but arrived early so we could get a bite to eat as we had missed lunch. Got there just after three with our mouths watering, having checked out the menu on line. The lovely Jaz behind the bar had the unenviable task of telling us the kitchen shuts between three and five. We must have looked so gutted he asked us what we had been hoping for and said he would check with them. And yippee they said yes so huge thanks to him for going that extra mile, and this pub now will have us as repeat customers! I had the spinach and mushroom lasagne, with garlic bread to die for and salad, and my husband had the vegan chilli. We also shared some beer battered pickles.... Have to say this was honestly one of the nicest, tastiest vegetarian meals we have had in London. The service here is excellent and even when they haven’t got something like the bottle of wine we wanted, they are so nice about it it is ok..... There is a nice outside area too and a function room upstairs. A friendly, non cliquey london pub with lovely staff, a welcoming environment and fab food, what more could you want! We look forward to our next visit...

Visited twice, once for drink and once for food and drink. Very good staff. On the food visit, my companion had a touchy stomach and the kitchen produced plain toast on request. My chicken sandwich was undercooked and the staff immediately replaced it (and said the kitchen used a thermometer to be sure it was cooked) and wanted to comp the whole thing, food and beer. (I paid for the beer.) Pleasant beer garden. Next time I'm in London I'll make a special trip to go there. (It's near the Southwark Playhouse, so good for a pre- or post-theatre nosh.)

I was visiting London to see a show at the Southwark Playhouse for a matinee performance and was glad that I visited this place. Limited menu but that is OK as all tastes are catered for i.e. vegetarians etc., snacks available too sandwiches Lunch at midday - order at the bar and food is bought to the table Tabs can be set up Food was hot when it arrived Staff polite and friendly Under 5 minutes from Elephant and Castle tube station

We visited The Ship for the first time last night and had a great evening. The bar staff are superb - really friendly and super efficient. Thanks go to Harry too for booking our little group on a table so we could watch the sport. The food was great, tables kept scrupulously clean, and you can expect the usual quality from the Fullers beers. A nice, mixed crowd of customers plus darts in the back. It’s basically the local pub that you wished you had round the corner - we shall definitely return!

Great spot with amazing beer garden!

Have been here a couple times for their Sunday Roast and it's always super. Have tried both the beef and veggie option and both were brilliant. Plus great pub ambiance and lovely location. 10/10

Unfortunately I must write a brutally honest review of my experience. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I was really hungry and opted for the main and dessert. I was left hungry and slightly disappointed. The main was a Squash, pinenut & spinach Wellington, tenderstem broccoli, blue cheese sauce (v). It was a very very small portion but very tasty. It was more of an Amuse Bouche. I was waiting for the vegetable and potato but they never arrived and I ended up sharing a colleges.Overall, I definitely think they could learn something from my feedback and re-evaluate portion vs price.

I was extremely disappointed with the quality of food at The Ship. I understand that Christmas menus can be more expensive than the standard, however, you would also expect the quality to reflect this inflation.

We had our team's Christmas meal at the Ship. We had a fantastic time, the food was great, the staff was very attentive and friendly and the prices were very reasonable.

Good London boozer. Not prerentious, Dart board. Food is OK, but not high end, more like Chill and Heat.

Hace poco contraté la sala de eventos de arriba para una fiesta privada. Aunque está a solo unos minutos a pie del ajetreo y el bullicio de Borough Market, The Ship es un pub local agradable con una buena selección de cervezas de verdad. Está cerca de las estaciones de metro Borough & Elephant & Castle y a una corta distancia a pie del London Bridge, por lo que fue ideal para personas que vinieron de todo Londres y otros puntos. Sin embargo, lo que hizo que la noche fuera especial para nosotros fue la bienvenida y el apoyo del personal allí; no podrían haber sido más útiles y de apoyo. Este pub solía ser muy querido por los lugareños. Es una absoluta pena lo que la nueva administración le haya hecho al Barco. Tenían el equipo de trabajo duro más fantástico y amable detrás del bar (Warren, Carol, Lauren, etc.) que habían trabajado allí durante años y fueron increíbles con todos los fieles habituales y visitantes que pasaban. Las mismas caras y familias habían estado bebiendo felizmente allí durante muchos años.

The Ship es una bebida tradicional ubicada a unos diez minutos de la estación London Bridge. Está muy oscuro por dentro, con paredes con paneles de madera, estampados náuticos y la tendencia actual de las mesas de cobre. Hay una selección de bombas de leche, sidras y amargos disponibles, pero lamentablemente no hay refrescos de azúcar regulares debido al impuesto sobre el azúcar. ?

Always friendly staff, food not amazing, but does the job after a few. Would go back again and again. Good old local.

The best best pub in London as far as I could tell

We found this bar on Trip Advisor having arrived at our hotel in the early evening and wanting to find somewhere to eat before they all closed. We are so glad we did, just a short walk from the Bridge Hotel we arrived to a warm and pleasant welcome by the highly efficient staff (poss owner),

Visita aquí regularmente para una comida y una bebida. Me gusta la variedad en el menú, que yo me doy cuenta ha mejorado mucho y está actualizada con nuevas ofertas sobre una base regular. Sin embargo, he notado recientemente cuando hay un partido de noche, es difícil conseguir mesa porque la mayoría son reservados aquellos fútbol viendo. Muy pocos comer y salir rápidamente después del partido.

Wee mientras ya que estaba aquí. Escuchamos un nuevo gerente estaba y decidimos visitar.
