Dining room is upstairs and we had a splendid table with a view of Borough Market. Sunday Roast Beef & Lamb - wonderful with extra gravy on the side. Beetroot & Butternut Squash Wellington, although pretty layered, could have been better/tastier by mixing the fillings together with flavourings. Puddings great and the best Sticky Toffee ever; light, tasty and lots of sauce. Efficient, friendly service…

The atmospheric exterior here offering one of the defining instagrammable locations in the market. This pub owned by the Borough Market Estate and its remained a popular destination for centuries. Traditional interior features dark panelling, low beam ceiling: an environment purposed for sustained serious imbibing with a large variety of ales on tap. Lively, noisy and well patronised with a more sedate upstairs dining room with bar offering a more personalised service. All here under the no-nonsense intimidating scrutiny of an unfinished “Market Porter” painting, all bulging Herculean forearms fit to crush a Bulldozer.

My favourite little pub on the South side. Always guaranteed a decent pint, these guys know how to look after their beer and lines. Always love the atmosphere in here, can get very busy at times but the staff always great. (Never had food here).

Typical London pun in front of Borough Market. Although they have a specific dining room if you want to eat, they were kind enough to serve us food at the tables in the bar area, although it took a while. Good food and reasonable price

Located next to the Borough Market, less than 5 minute walk to London Bridge Underground station. Very tasty pub food. My go-to is mashed potato and sausages.

It's our 'go to' place whenever meeting friends and family. This time we were around 6 people and we asked for separate bills. Service was quick and efficient. Food was delicious, two of us had the seabass, one had the caesar salad with chicken, two had the steak and ale pie and another had the fish and chips. We sat upstairs in the dining area overlooking Borough Market. All in all a very pleasant experience. It's very popular and booking is essential if you want to eat a meal along with your drinks.

Excellent pub and excellent fish & chips, one for two is more than fine, prices in line with the London average! We arrived without a reservation around 1.30pm/2pm and were seated quietly. I spent €57 on two fish & chips and a large beer.

A great traditional pub and ideal for meeting friends. However, it is very popular and does get busy.

On the left hand side of Borough Market stands The Market Porter, an old style London Pub, selling good ale. On the first floor you will find the Dining Room. Whilst in itself the DR is, nothing special, the Food and Service we received was excellent and for, Central London, reasonably priced.

We made a reservation for a table of 8 taken with cheer. We arrived and the table was ready in the traditional upper room. The food was tasty and came out as ordered. Beer is good and it was an enjoyable experience. We were there a few other times for drinks as well and it was all good.

The Market Porter used to be an outstanding real ale pub with friendly, knowledgeable bar staff. I visited recently to find it is now serving almost entirely keg beer, with rude and surly staff. One bloke spent several minutes lecturing me aggressively because I'd accidentally leaned against the wrong section of bar, waving a silly little chalk board in my face. Two stars instead of one because I did manage to get a well-kept pint of Harveys. Never visiting there again.

Lovely pub for lunchtime drinks before a nice meal at Borough Market - busy but managed to get seats. Lovely wine! I do t know what else to say except highly recommend

The Fish is huge and delicious. The steak and ale pie is astounding. Great ambient and great service.

A London favourite, in the heart of Borough market, serving a wide selection of beers, that are good value in an expensive area. Sadly missed out on 5 stars as now card only. ( The original market traders will be turning in their graves)

We hired the upstairs of The Market Porter for my mum and dad's surprise 60th birthday and had the best experience. From initial booking to the actual evening all staff were so communicative and helpful. The space holds around 60 people (standing) and is the perfect size. We ordered buffet food from the pub all of which was delicious and the perfect amount. We brought our own cake with us which the pub allowed us to light and sing happy birthday, as well as decorations and balloons which we were able to decorate the space with. We were also able to connect our phone and play our own playlist through the room's speakers. The pub allowed us early access from 5pm to decorate and get everything ready and then everyone was out by 11/11.30ish. All staff were great on the night too! I would highly recommend this space for a private party and will hopefully be returning myself.

Super klimatyczny, typowo londyński pub.

Visited in the summer and the toilets were of a poor standard, visited again a few days ago and toilets still leave a lot to be desired. Popular pub , friendly staff and good atmosphere but looks like it it could do with a deep clean.Appreciate it is an old pub but can still be maintained

Popped in for one last drink after an evening out with friends. Nice enough pub, but not a lot of seating, fair enough as it was quite busy. My main issue is the toilets. They were squalid; broken door latches, broken toilet roll dispensers, toilets didn't look as though they were cleaned very often and the soap dispensers were dirty.

I like this pub when you can drink outside, but when it’s raining the inside is nothing special. Tonight they not particularly politely closed parts of the seating at 9.30pm to make it easier to clean, so we had to move 🙄

We were not an easy group. Nearly 20 of us gathering for lunch with quite a bit of chopping and chaning before the day, which was all accommodated. The upstairs dining room was a lovely place to spend the day. The staff were very welcoming and tolerant of our faffing about. We had to pre order due to the size of the group. All the food arrvied at the same time and all the plates were cleared. I had the gnoccci which was a lovely meat free option. Several people declared the sticky toffee pudding to be the best they have ever had. Good choice of wine and beers.

Lovely food, good customer service and cosy atmosphere with the log fire. We weren’t rushed and the staff were friendly.

Lovely pub in the middle of Borough Market

I’ve been here twice in the past month, once for our company Christmas lunch and once with a colleague. The upstairs dining room is beautifully festive, with a lovely Christmas tree and welcoming fireplace. Food and wines are excellent - most recently I had the steak and ale pie, which was packed full of deliciousness: so much so that I couldn’t eat any dinner in the evening. Attentive and friendly service too and good value. The Market Porter is always busy as it’s right but the amazing Borough Market, so booking in advance is highly recommended.

Nice spot next to Borough Market for a cold, fresh pint. Loved the fish and chips, big portions for reasonable prices.

Great value 3 course Christmas lunch, in the upstairs dining room - all courses were of a high standard and served promptly. Good accompanying wine and lovely service, made for an excellent festive group lunch.

It's a great pub.nplenty of bar staff. Always busy and a fun atmosphere. The ladies toilets are atrocious though. One with a seat. One without a door lock. Defo needs work.

Really unfriendly, rules about where you can sit at what time, plastic glasses were issued and one member of staff told a colleague to f off when they questioned the plastic glass

Prob the best pub in the borough precinct. Good prices. Less than £6 for a vodka lime soda. Lots of outdoor heaters attached to the outside to stay warm whilst watching the people pass. Service is very fast at the bar.

Downstairs is lovely but upstairs let it down. Got drinks at the bar and headed upstairs to make use of one of the tables which had not been set, at ~5pm. Was rudely greeted by a waitress who said we could only sit there if eating. The restaurant was empty. We said we were waiting for friends and considering it, yet she was still reluctant. Definitely would not go back.

Like being London in a great boozer. The staff could not have been more helpful. Even with our varied diets an cuisines. It all arrived perfectly. The Mkt Porter beer needs to be sold everywhere.

Made a reservation based on designmynight review. Managed to book online only on google because their website did not work to make reservation. I drove all the way from southlondon to visit this place for the first time and because the traffic I got a bit late, while on the way I tried to call million times and had no answer. When I got there one lady ( black hair and an English with Spanish or Italian ascent ) just told me my table has been given away and there were no further tables. I could see at least 5 empty tables. When I said I tried to call she said to me that phone did not ring any time. I felt bad because she said I was lying in other words. So a quite bad experience. I could not stay at this time and will definitely not come back. Actually I got glad it happened because one of the staffs was stink and for a small dining room it would be a bad experience. I truly recommend the Nicholsons pub not far way from there. I had an outstanding experience there.

It's been a while since I was last here. The outside of the Pub was a bit obscured by street food vendors but all in all, it was a great night out. The Rugby World Cup was showing on the TV, The beer was great as usual and of course, it was a great atmosphere. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes real ale and a pleasant atmosphere. I couldn't comment on the food because we were out for drinks but I'm sure, with the vendors outside and the Pub food available, it'd make a great day out. Cheers!

Nicely located pub. My friend recommends the food. Would give it five but shutting the side door forcing people to walk all the way around the front to then go all the way to the back to the toilets was inconvenient and pointless.

We celebrated my daughters 30th Birthday last Saturday night. We booked the private room above the pub. We had a fabulous night. The staff and venue was great and the food really good. Overall I would recommend this place for any celebration you are having....

Right outside the borough market, standard pub food. We didn’t want to eat at borough, by the time we got there it was so crowded so found this place to sit and have a good Sunday roast. Hubby ordered the beef and I had the chicken, both were slightly dry but when smothered in the gravy, that helped it. Huge portions.

I had the pleasure of performing twice at/in front of The Market Porter in Borough market this September, and had the best experience. Lovely staff, very helpful and attentive and kind. The fish and chips are divine. Great audience too! Thank you for having myself and Timeless Tim.

Ordered the lamb and beef rump from the Sunday Roast menu. Both meats were tough - we were struggling to cut or slice through with the knives. Both dishes were heavily salted. On a positive note, the Yorkshire pudding was nice!

All have a warm welcome when I visit, sometimes they even reserve a table for me, but don't tell or they will all want it done. Anyway, great staff always get a smile. Good range of ales, but I'm biased towards the Harveys Sussex Ale. I may try a different ale if it is not too strong. I haven't left stars on the food bit, as I don't eat when I'm there, but other customers seem to enjoy it.

Great pub & location but there's a need for basic bar training. Grumpy barman poured my pint of Guinness like an ale! 3 seconds to settle and proceeded to allow it to pour over the side for a few seconds. Isn't pouring Guinness

The smoked salmon scotch eggs was marvelous! Nice place for a happy hour! Love it! Hope I can come back to london soon.

I used to visit the Market Porter Pub during my city days which was renowned for its selection of cask Ales. It's still a good pub although the cask ales have gone but it still has a good selection of beers and Ales on tap, including Timothy Taylor's Landlord. The staff were friendly. Located near to London bridge station and borough market.

Used to have excellent cask beer. Seem no longer bothered, with staff claiming nothing wrong with beer, when can't see hand through it. They'll continue being busy and making a fortune regardless, which is perhaps why they no longer try
