George Inn in Southwark

My family have already been here yesterday and I joined for today’s dinner. It was fantastic, especially the service was so great. Dean was very obliging and helpful to find the right beer. We had a great time, you need to come here!!!

We were there for the second day in a row today because it was again a first-class service from Dean, the food and drinks were great again 👍 highly recommended 👍

Dean was very accommodating and very friendly. The atmosphere is very cozy. We'd love to come back on our next visit to London. We ate here yesterday. It was absolutely delicious again. Dean was very attentive and took good care of us. Drinks and food came quickly and were all very good. We'll be back.

It was the worst Sunday growth ever! Dry pieces of boiled beef, overcooked cauliflower.

Fantastic pub with tons of history in a very central location. Visited recently and had dinner and drinks. Food was great and arrived pretty promptly. Service very friendly and hospitable and good value for central London too.

Really good place for drinks! huge courtyard and inside area. Food was mediocre - we had burgers and chips and both dishes were overcooked.

Rudest service i have ever encountered, it was VE day celebrations so you think that the general vibe would be uplifting, but the two brunette bigger girls at the downstairs bar were taking every opportunity to chat privately, instead of serving people, and when I finally did get served she asked “what!?”, as if she was offended that I was there as a customer. Very slow service to and they charge service charge without even asking whether that was okay. I would have obviously declined the supposed, optional payment. Would never return just because the staff were so rude. It’s a shame because the location is very cool.

Lovely old pub with huge outdoor seating and a gallery. It has 3 different bars as well as function rooms. I suggest you use the coach bar as the other bars were very busy

Watched a man physically and verbally assault 2 women. 5 women told the head of security what happened. He was allowed to stay and was not removed. Myself and friends will never be back.

Dinner for 3! We found this pub by chance around 9.30pm. Very quiet environment with spaces inside and a beautiful garden outside. We ordered 2 fish and a burger, 2 beers and a coke for a total of £76. There was a small mistake in the hamburger but it was immediately resolved. Very generous portions!

We were going to a show at the Chocolate Factory Theatre. Borough Market was too busy so we went for a walk to find a place for lunch. We found The George tucked away. What a fabulous find. Great choice of beers and drinks. My hubby ordered the steak and ale pie which was to die for. I wasn’t that hungry so I ordered a steak ciabatta. The bread was tough and also the steak. I did not make a fuss at all. The lady behind the bar came over and noticed I left my food. Straight away she offered me a more expensive meal. I wasn’t that hungry so she recommended the cheese toasty. Well I will be returning for that alone as well as the first class customer service. It was St George’s Day and lots of locals were wearing red roses. So a wonderful atmosphere and great place to visit. We will be returning

I used to love this place. It was thriving before now completely deserted. I cannot explain just how rude and awful the staff on the bar have been. Honestly if hospitality isn't for you then don't work in hospitality.

I have been to The George a few times now. I love it. Very Olde Worlde. The staff are always friendly. On this visit we were served by Dean who was amazing. Very attentive without being too much so. Had a lovely chat with him and he was very knowledgeable about The George

A packed pub with lots of history, just a shame not enough staff on behind the bar, and a smile never hurts.

It's always crowded with local office workers after work. This is a historic pub that even appears in Dickens' novels. In Japan, it would be like an izakaya in Shinbashi. The Guinness is carefully poured, and the service is average, but it's a pub with a pleasant and pleasant atmosphere. Unlike the pubs around SOHO, it has a local feel.

Just finished a lovely meal with my wife on her birthday, on a wet Tuesday afternoon. The food was lovely and the service outstanding, Thank you Dean. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved this place! The vibe is just right — cozy, welcoming, and not pretentious at all. They have a fantastic selection of craft beers, all super fresh, and the staff really know their stuff and give great recommendations. I had a burger and some sides — everything was delicious and nicely presented. Music was at the perfect volume, so we could still chat comfortably. It was my first time here, but definitely not the last. Prices are fair for the quality you get. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a chill night out with good drinks and great food. 5/5!

Traditional pub with a nice setting if you eat outside, we had fish and chips and the portion of fish was very generous but a shame about the fries which are not homemade

Attracted by many good reviews and recommendations in a travel guide, we booked a table for dinner for 2 adults and 2 children on Monday, April 7th. The first impression was great. A cozy courtyard, a rustic pub downstairs and the restaurant area upstairs, where we were kindly given our table The dishes were quickly selected: drinks, halloumi sticks as a starter, chicken nuggets for our daughter, chicken kiev for our son, burgers for my wife and myself steak and ale pie. Even the drinks took forever, then finally the appetizer came, which was very tasty After about an hour the main courses arrived. The fries were totally greasy. The cabbage for my steak and ale pie was rock-hard, the pie itself was quite good The chicken kiev was a disaster, rarely eaten such tough meat. What really annoyed me: I told our waitress directly, but nothing came except "sorry" :( The pinnacle of bad taste was the "fresh strawberries" on the children's menu: about 2 strawberries cut open on a huge mountain of bad-tasting mushy cream. Sorry, but one visit was really enough for us here.

Nice 16th century bar to visit, I don't know the food prices because we didn't stay; but we went in to look inside and take some photos. It is very close to the Borough Market. Entering there is like entering another era.

Had a meal at The George Inn with a friend. It’s a Green King so the food is pub standard. The building though is just fabulous. Like stepping back in time. Absolutely lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

One of the oldest pubs in london, very nice to sit outside. Very expensive, but that's normal for London, and the fish & chips are good and a big portion (it's possible to share them with a friend).

We stepped out briefly for a smoke, informing our waitress beforehand and requesting that our meals remain untouched. Upon our return, we found that our dishes had been cleared away. Addressing this with the manager, we were told that the staff were simply performing their duties and that nothing could be done. This experience left us deeply disappointed with the service and management’s response!

Five of us met for a quite bite before going to the menier. Bit disappointed fish wasn't mavailable but we all enjoyed our meals. Dean who was on his own in the gallery, serving drinks from the bar as well as taking and serving food orders, was amazing 👏

Such a great building, but being part of a chain lessens its character. Still worth a visit though.

We got a warm welcome from Dean and Ellen in the Gallery at the George where we went for lunch with some old friends yesterday. The food was great, and the service and banter from Dean and Ellen added to the fun, in the charming setting of London's last galleried coaching inn. I recommend the clementine tart!

Popped in on the way to a gig round the corner. Nicely served pint of Level Head. Amazing building that needs to be explored before heading to the bar. 😀

Always worth a visit. Dickens came here, lovely beergarden, well kept ales. National Trust owns the building which shows.

Old fashioned pub in the heart of London Bridge good for outside in the summer

Galleries of History and a Splash of Shakespeare This historic pub has become a favourite of ours when we visit London. While its proximity to Borough Market is a definite advantage I can't help but have fun imagining the Shakesperean plays in the courtyard and the jeers from the covered balconies as they watch Bottom make an ass of himself. The pub offers gallons of historical atmosphere to take you away to the 1600's. As the UK's last surviving galleried inn, rumoured to have influences the likes of Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare, it certainly gives you the "Olde London" Vibe you could be looking for. We ensured this was a stop on our "historic London pub crawl" when we showed fellow Canadians around the city for the first time. It was a fun spot for a drink before we set off to find the Golden Hinde and took a walk down Clink Street- where you might have ended up if you misbehaved in The George back in the day!

Great experience at dining rooms, very atmospheric and the food is lovely. They even have kids menu which was great for us visiting with a 4yo.

An unbeatable environment with many groups of people sharing a good space where you can practically breathe life, many young people. We went on a Thursday around 8:00 p.m. The service is average because you can tell that there are some waiters who were not in a very good mood, that's why I give it a 3, since anyone has a bad day.

The history here is amazing, very rich in London life and the tales it could tell. It’s packed most weekdays and service is ridiculous. Londoners have that odd single file queuing thing going on so everything grinds to a halt. Worth the visit not the stay.

Great fish and chips and the rest of the food was also good. Also the atmosphere was amazing. However the stack is a bit lacking. The one manning the bar told us wrong information and when we arrived early they said our table wasn't ready yet, but when we walked around finding a place to sit and maybe take a drink, but then we found our table completely ready

WHAT A PUB! Hidden away in London just off from London Bridge, The George is an amazing pub to visit! Food and drinks prices are fair for this part of London and it’s a brilliant pub to stop by if you’re in London. The Bar staff are all very friendly and make you feel welcome.

Very crowded on most spring and summer evenings. Definitely has a buzz, but staff are far from friendly!

What an undiscovered (for us) gem. We dined upstairs in the restaurant as we wanted table service. What a tranquil haven from all the heaving mob outside. Fantastic food, peaceful atmosphere & lovely & warm (it was freezing out) . But what made it for us were the staff, Dean & Ellen. Lovely lovely people, helpful, humorous, a delight. We would definitely 100% recommend & go back. Thank you soooooo much guys for all you did. . It was superb 👌

We have been coming to the George for some time now and have done reviews before for Dean. Who only done a few days a week and have never been disappointed Usually on a Thursday. I’magind our surprise when for the first time we came on a Tuesday and who was there to serve Dean. He said we were in luck as it’s a extra shift What can we say yet again he was outstanding We are quite careful about wasting money but he can definitely sell ice to an Eskimo. 😂 No matter how many times we say we ok he still managed to sell us bottles instead of glasses and sides. He even tried offered us as car. Lol. Which made us laugh. We love the George and we love Dean And yet again thank you. We will still be back but next will be a surprise. Exceptional

Great venue, and although we couldn't get a seat outside, the atmosphere was good indoors. Bar staff need to smile and be less frosty. Unfortunately the roast dinner was terrible!! Frozen roast potatoes, burnt dry Yorkshire pudding and carrots were overcooked and grey...cauliflower cheese and cabbage nice! Would return for drinks only and will avoid food next time.

Simple cuisine but very good atmosphere. The boss smiles and calls us "darling", it's very charming. 😊

Main course brought out first and took it back so after our starters our mains had obviously been stuck under a grill to keep warm. The steak and ale pie was tasteless and the batter pudding and roast potatoes would have been better if they had been aunt Bessie’s from a freezer. If I pay £68 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks it should be better than this. Should’ve gone somewhere else!

The George's Inn is a great tabern/reataurant where to smell History and feel that Charles Dicken can suddenly come and ask for a beer. Nearby the Borough Market, for me is a Must if visit London. I did it on Sunday and ordered its Sunday Roast. Try by yourself!

We had a great Sunday roast dinner at the George Inn very pub. The atmosphere was just like in back in the old days a bit cold in the restaurant due to the cold outside, so please bring a jacket or overcoat. Our will hosted a great job and giving us a great service.

Lovely old pub, well kept beers and a ton of space (inside and out).

It was really good ubtil we got to closing. One of the staff walked in saying "you guys should have left 20 minutes ago, we're closed" bearing in mind we were in one of the private booked rooms and that was the first person to tell us to disappear. Arguably, perfectly ok to do. Issue was, one of our group said "oh sorry, you're the first one to tell us". No response from there, went about clearing up glasses but then said "we won't tolerate abuse". As far as I'm aware, no one even swore. We left, and were told by a bouncer to head to the pub on the other side, as they were open an hour longer. Issue was, the woman who said "we don't tolerate abuse" told the bouncer of the pub on the other side to not let us because we were being abusive BUT as far as I know, we really weren't. I know the job is hard enough but I don't believe a single swear word or anything like that was exchanged, just maybe a bit of snark by the one person. We're all good, and we still like The George, but one of your staff members really has an issue, it wasn't even a bouncer. The people who were there, I'd really be surprised if someone caused a genuine issue.

Lively vibrant place. We were able to enjoy our meal in peace on the upper floor. Dean is a wonderful service employee, well-positioned and very friendly. It took a bit long for the burger to be served. However, on this Saturday evening the house was very full and lively.

The food is very nice and service is lovely! A quiet place to dine at the city centre. The duck was very tasty, the pear frangipani, too.

Pretty nice atmosphere! Waited about 30 minutes to he served at one of the bars. Staff were rushed off their feet to keep up with demand, and this was on a winter’s night. Must be carnage in the summer! Would go back though!

Great atmosphere and very busy. We were there midweek. Easy to see why it’s so popular. The history speaks for itself. None of the toilets, anywhere had any soap. Luckily we were not eating. Staff were told but nothing done.

Heard about this historic inn from the book, Liberty over London Bridge and decided to visit with some of the other places mentioned in the book. Went to the old building on the rhs of the site at about 11.00 - no coffee available ‘the machine is broken’. Went were directed to the newer building the other side of the courtyard. The waitress said that she could make coffee or tea, but had no milk. A Thursday morning in a capital city and no one had the initiative to walk out into Borough High Street and buy some. Astonishing.

A retirement and long service celebration for two colleagues, both very keen on historic buildings. The George provided the perfect setting and ambience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar snacks were delicious and the drinks flowed!

Unfriendly staff at reception. You need to think about changing jobs! The principle of a welcome is to be welcoming… The beef on the burger was really not good. The chicken buger was better. The fish and chips were very good.

We wasn't sure which side to eat, the George, steeped in History or, the newer coach house. same menu, same establishment however, we didn't know at the time. In hindsight, we would of picked the old building. as it was, we went in to the coach house. i had their pie and the Mrs had a burger. the pie was lovely, mash was slightly cold but, the gravy...
