Great fish and chips and the rest of the food was also good. Also the atmosphere was amazing. However the stack is a bit lacking. The one manning the bar told us wrong information and when we arrived early they said our table wasn't ready yet, but when we walked around finding a place to sit and maybe take a drink, but then we found our table completely ready

WHAT A PUB! Hidden away in London just off from London Bridge, The George is an amazing pub to visit! Food and drinks prices are fair for this part of London and it’s a brilliant pub to stop by if you’re in London. The Bar staff are all very friendly and make you feel welcome.

Great venue, and although we couldn't get a seat outside, the atmosphere was good indoors. Bar staff need to smile and be less frosty. Unfortunately the roast dinner was terrible!! Frozen roast potatoes, burnt dry Yorkshire pudding and carrots were overcooked and grey...cauliflower cheese and cabbage nice! Would return for drinks only and will avoid food next time.

We have been coming to the George for some time now and have done reviews before for Dean. Who only done a few days a week and have never been disappointed Usually on a Thursday. I’magind our surprise when for the first time we came on a Tuesday and who was there to serve Dean. He said we were in luck as it’s a extra shift What can we say yet again he was outstanding We are quite careful about wasting money but he can definitely sell ice to an Eskimo. 😂 No matter how many times we say we ok he still managed to sell us bottles instead of glasses and sides. He even tried offered us as car. Lol. Which made us laugh. We love the George and we love Dean And yet again thank you. We will still be back but next will be a surprise. Exceptional

What an undiscovered (for us) gem. We dined upstairs in the restaurant as we wanted table service. What a tranquil haven from all the heaving mob outside. Fantastic food, peaceful atmosphere & lovely & warm (it was freezing out) . But what made it for us were the staff, Dean & Ellen. Lovely lovely people, helpful, humorous, a delight. We would definitely 100% recommend & go back. Thank you soooooo much guys for all you did. . It was superb 👌

Main course brought out first and took it back so after our starters our mains had obviously been stuck under a grill to keep warm. The steak and ale pie was tasteless and the batter pudding and roast potatoes would have been better if they had been aunt Bessie’s from a freezer. If I pay £68 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks it should be better than this. Should’ve gone somewhere else!

It was really good ubtil we got to closing. One of the staff walked in saying "you guys should have left 20 minutes ago, we're closed" bearing in mind we were in one of the private booked rooms and that was the first person to tell us to disappear. Arguably, perfectly ok to do. Issue was, one of our group said "oh sorry, you're the first one to tell us". No response from there, went about clearing up glasses but then said "we won't tolerate abuse". As far as I'm aware, no one even swore. We left, and were told by a bouncer to head to the pub on the other side, as they were open an hour longer. Issue was, the woman who said "we don't tolerate abuse" told the bouncer of the pub on the other side to not let us because we were being abusive BUT as far as I know, we really weren't. I know the job is hard enough but I don't believe a single swear word or anything like that was exchanged, just maybe a bit of snark by the one person. We're all good, and we still like The George, but one of your staff members really has an issue, it wasn't even a bouncer. The people who were there, I'd really be surprised if someone caused a genuine issue.

Heard about this historic inn from the book, Liberty over London Bridge and decided to visit with some of the other places mentioned in the book. Went to the old building on the rhs of the site at about 11.00 - no coffee available ‘the machine is broken’. Went were directed to the newer building the other side of the courtyard. The waitress said that she could make coffee or tea, but had no milk. A Thursday morning in a capital city and no one had the initiative to walk out into Borough High Street and buy some. Astonishing.

A lunchtime catch up with friends in the upstairs restaurant. The setting is suitably "Olde Worlde" and the welcome was friendly and informal. Menu choices are pretty standard for a pub which, given its history, is a tourist hotspot. Nothing wrong with that. I had the fish and chips and, for the most part, it was good. A decent portion of nicely cooked fish in crisp batter served with very acceptable chips, but (sadly) terrible peas. They were originally frozen, which is fine, but had, I suspect, been sitting waiting to be served for so long that they were unappetising, dry, and tasteless. The tartare sauce was nice, though. I really liked the service - friendly, a bit cheeky but very welcoming. Seeing a mouse scurry across the dining room was slightly off-putting but it's an old building and is doubtless rich in uninvited guests. Would I go again? Yes - the welcome was good, the food was not bad, and the location is genuinely historic. It could be sooo much better though!

Went there for a pint with my boyfriend. As we were about to leave he just wanted to use the toilet. He didn’t realise he went inside of the ladies until the staff member reminded him he’s in the wrong place for which he felt sorry and apologised. As he reached me back at our table, two security guys accompanied by the manager approached us „reminding” my boyfriend that he used the wrong the toilet AGAIN. AGAIN, he apologised quite embarrassed at this point having to do this once again as he honestly didn’t have any bad intention. From there they followed us all the way to the exit saying nothing, which caught the attention of everyone inside. This was very unnecessary and made us feel like we both did something really bad and that was extremely uncomfortable. I will never go there again. Mistakes like this happen in every pub - there’s no need make your customer feel like criminals.

Place to escape!!! We stayed 5 days in London and many other places are worth the detour! The toilets are very dirty, the tables stick, are not cleared, the service is neglected. We were happy to come here but what a disappointment. We had reservations for dinner but having arrived early, we ordered several things at the bar, the waitress was very unfriendly, did not look at the customers and responded very curtly. Once arrived at the table what a disappointment we had ordered from the bar starters and dishes we had everything at the same time thrown on the table was cold and really not good. Came down here last night for a last drink, straight away once we stepped in the word was "these are the last orders, if you want something gotta be now or never". Fine, we ignored the server attitude and took on the desportive way, we also work in hospitality and know how much it can suck. The issue came after 10min of getting our drinks, another member (beard guy, to "punk" to be hospitable) came with plastic cups shouting at every one to leave the premises as they had to work the next day. I wonder why we were served in the first place, anyway get your timings right so your own staff is not frustrated and customer don't get the hit for it or hire people that actually needs to work and actually mind their attitudes at work. The pub has a charming atmosphere with rustic decor, making it a great spot for drinks and socializing. The drink selection is good, offering local ales and craft cocktails. However, the food didn't meet my expectations. While they serve classic pub fare like fish and chips, the preparation was lacking—my fish was overcooked and the chips could have been crispier. I have been to this pub many times to drink and have also eaten in the bar area a few times; its always been great. So I booked this venue as a special treat for my partner on Christmas Day. The pre-booked Xmas lunch cost £69 per person. On arrival, I was told we were to eat in the Gallery Restaurant (nice, I thought). When we walked in there were several tables free but we were told we had been allocated the small (usually spare) table for two, opposite the door. When I asked if we could have one of the other two free tables we were told by a very unfriendly manageress that they were booked and we could not be moved. We had an ok meal, but got cold every time the door opened, as did our food. And on one occasion, when the door was left open by a customer, i was going to close it my self but the manageress passed by so i politely asked her to close it. The response i received was something like "but a customer left it open!". Worth also noting that one of the tables we initially requested was never used... All in all, considering the cost and the occasion, a very disappointing experience.

This is a long review, so apologies. This could be a good Pub. Just poorly run and run for a narrow demographic. Selection of cold bottled beer extremely poor. The Duke of York 4 minutes south (Although it now closes on a Sunday) and The Trinity 3 minutes north have a better selection, dark and wheat beer in the fridge etc and outdoor seating. If you like beer and want a more enjoyable experience go there. A selection of two cold bottled lagers is poor for a modern pub. The pubs supplier could not supply any further choice apparently. I am not convinced. Also if you don’t like the live music you are subjected to it is a pretty depressing experience. Also the yellow orange light bulbs make it very dark and depressing inside. Just feel from local knowledge there are better pubs a short distance away. The Trinity has bifold windows, so quite pleasant on a summers day if you looking for a summer’s drink. The Duke of York have four/five tables outside. Trust me there are superior pubs with friendlier staff nearby. The pub did get Wheat beer in for about a week. I tried again one Sunday as they said on the website it was open to 11.00. At 22.15 I was told they were no longer serving drinks. The closing time advertised is not the time they close. No last orders and no warning. Definitely, look at the Duke of York and / or the Trinity or pubs closer to London Bridge. There are better pubs. Trust me I am a Borough / Southwark local. If you are not fussy and don’t care about service use the Ship. Otherwise use another pub!!!! This pub is for the younger drinker. Not really for the local to the area or someone slightly older. I genuinely hope the pub improves; the area could do with another decent pub. However, not to worry, there are other pubs nearby.

I really love this pub! Was very lucky to get a table as we hadn't booked. And people were queuing to get in as soon as it opened! The staff were very accommodating and found us a table. I had the pie of the day, which was steak & ale served with mashed potato, cabbage and gravy (in a separate jug - which I loved as I like to pour my own gravy and not have my food drowned!) As this is Borough Market, it isn't a bargain price but not too bad for London. The other food looked good too! They were doing a roaring trade with fish and chips! Great dining room upstairs with it's own bar. can't comment on the beers as I only had a pint of Estrella. Great place.
